An ill wind

Rate this book
When Superintendent Mallett and Dr. Fitzbrown interrupted their fishing holiday to inspect the contents of Gate Cottage, they were suitably regretful to hear that its late owner, Lady Wynford, had met her death by falling downstairs. It is unlikely, however, that they suspected that the eager acquisition of the property by Miss Jolly could conceivably cast any shadow of danger over that pleasant retired schoolmistress, so childishly delighted with her new home. She would, of course, have some mixed neighbors - the Honourable Godfrey and Mrs Wynford, young Lord Wynford who had been so markedly disinherited, the eccentric Professor obsessed by the ruins of Penleath Priory. Nothing and nobody, however, to warning of a dark rain-drenched night when the slamming of a garage door and the discovery of a pool of blood would announce the advent of murder.
