A New Dawn #1

Dawn of Destiny

Rate this book
When the greatest horrors exist in the mind, how do you deal with a man who puts them there?

Julianne is the strongest mystic of her generation. Her mental magic might even be getting stronger... it's hard to tell when her practice time is eaten up by paperwork and leading her people.

That is, until a rogue mystic cult shows up, trying to drag Julianne into their plot for world domination.

Crossing the dangerous Madlands and issuing a slap down to the bad guys is just the kind of trip she needs - some quiet solitude and the chance to kick some ass. If only her smartass companions had stayed at home...

Set on the foundation laid by the Kurtherian Gambit Series, Dawn of Destiny tells an entirely new story in the Age of Magic.

I'm always ready to welcome a new author! I did a skip read of the book first, then went back and just read it. Very well done A. Hopkins! The characters seemed familiar in their struggles to get justice, hunting down the bad guys. I especially liked that the characters were very human as well as gifted. Welcome to the Kurtherian Gamit world!

Yet another new series, to me, that fits in seamlessly with the rest of the Age of Magic Arc!

This was a book that I slipped into so quickly, and was immersed in so seamlessly, that it was as if it were a part of the whole from the very beginning.

I'm constantly amazed at just how many awesome authors there are out there, who are writing these books, to fit in so well to the complex convoluted, funny, terrible, horrendous, amazing, crazy world of the Kurtherian Universe!

The answer, of course, is that the creator of this whole, wonderful, idea: Michael Anderle, has been very discerning in his choices of coauthors, and has been very careful that each writer knows to fit their own story ideas within the details already there from the start.

And it works!

It works so well, that, after almost eight months of reading nothing else but the Kurtherian Universe, I haven't found even one book that I've read, disappointing!

This book, Dawn of Destiny, is just such an example of this.

The world building is excellent, and is rock solid in detailing that fits within the whole thing. The characters, both old, and new, are exactly as I've got used to within the various story lines, and their magic fits well within the whole idea that started with Bethany Anne, and expanded into, what feels like, a journey into the most amazing place since I first discovered Terry Pratchett's Discworld!

Of course, the Discworld is a very British series of books which, as I'm British myself, appealed immensely, back then, in the early 1980's - and still does today - but, despite the authors of the Kurtherian Universe being a whole mix of nationalities, the one thing that I find draws them all together, is the humour, which transcends nationality!

But, of course, within each story involved within the Kurtherian Gambit Universe, there's always that sense of needing Justice to be served, whether hot, or cold, plus that deep well of Honour that backs up the character's decisions, and behaviours, within each story!

I'm really looking forwards to reading book two of this series: Dawn of Darkness, next, as Julianna confronts the New Dawn Mystics, aided by just a few of her travelling companions.

Dawn of Destiny: Age Of Magic - a review by Rosemary Kenny

A fantastic new series that encompasses two major genres - sci-fi and the paranormal - created by the collaborational genius pairing of Michael Anderle and Amy Hopkins seems so right, that it's a pity it didn't happen earlier!

Book 1 in the Age of Magic series is Dawn of Destiny, which introduces a brand new heroine directly from a previous book in the Kurtherian Universe, (see KU timeline on Google). MC is feisty kickass Mystic, Julianne, who's in charge of peace-keeping and law enforcing on the edge of the Madlands, where enemies are gathering - some of them are aliens, but some are 'native' raiders the remnant, Trying to calm local reaction to the unwelcome immigrants who intend to rule the planet, Julianne must gather a team of deputies/sidekicks to back her up in her hunt for the Dark Mystic, a rogue mage who is in hiding in the Madlands.
Can Julianne calm all the hostility and aggression that erupts between townships and predators?
Who or what are the Skrima? Whose side are they on?
The answers to these and more questions, can be found in Dawn of Destiny: Age Of Magic Book 1, by Amy Hopkins and Michael Anderle - get your copy today!

Dawn of Destiny:Age of Magic by Amy Hopkins, Michael Anderle is Superb!!!

I can hardly wait to start reading the next book in the series. I haven't found to many fantasy stories that I like. I have now. The characters are interesting, the tale is exciting, and there's just a little bit of romance. The story flows well and the only problem is that it's too short. If you like interesting and exciting with just a little bit of romance then you will enjoy this book

International as well as interstellar!

What an exciting introduction to this series. Fast-paced, funny, sensitive, and exciting with "Magic" weaving throughout it all. Having an Aussie author join the Kurtherian crew is a huge bonus! I, too, was the nerd who navigated with her head in a book, referred to as the Walking Dictionary 😂

Good Read

Julianne, the strongest and leader of her temple of mystics, is visited by former temple members to enlist her in a cult of world domination. Their magic is unfamiliar, powerful, and perverted. She and friends set out to find out more about the cult and seek the aid of an elder mystic. I like the action, humor, and light romance. I look forward to the next book.

Enter the mystics, woohoo!!

WOW, laugh out loud moments, adventure and action made this for a well worth read. Great to see some characters from the ‘Feisty Druid’ along with some new ones that helped round out the group. And Bette, OMG, bringing the pain of being a female in a male oriented culture, but she doesn’t let that stop her. Now for book 2.

Intriguing

This was an interesting story although I am not a big fan of this new dawn group. However I found the story to be pretty good and found that Julianne's journey was interesting.

Another outstanding series

I enjoyed reading more about the mystics from the heights. Loved the New characters that were introduced by Ms Hopkins along with some of the returning characters. Some places it was a little rough but things started to smooth out towards the end.

Phenomenal story with a well thought plotline.

Talk about a great entrance to the KGU (Kurtherian Gambit Universe). Amy has taken her place in the universe with a well written, exciting story of a strong female character. I can't wait to read more!

Another good branch of the KU

I have been reading all the branches of the Kurtherian Gambit universe and they have all been great. I have yet to read one I didn't like. If you like science fiction mixed with paranormal I know you will love these books.

A very good and exciting book

I loved the characters and the story. The writing is good, as is the pacing.

The only problem with the book is it should be a thousand pages longer!

The author did a good job weaving a story that was intriguing without being too far fetched. The development of the lead characters was well done. There were some characters which seemed to play a larger part than the amount of development would suggest. I hope to get more of their background and motivation in the upcoming books. There is one more book, so I guess I'm off to book two.
