"Construct 11 - Part 2 Trust and Loyalty" by Anna Lynn Miller is the second in the Construct 11 series and is a beast of a book too.
Although it would help (and you'd enjoy it too) to read Part 1 it's not completely necessary as this book could be easily read as a standalone - since a lot of information is included in this one from the first. There is even a helpful list of characters at the beginning to help you understand how the 'beings' of the Construct are related to each other. Also included is a list of the rules, which are the Leadership's twist on the Ten Commandments that all 'beings' must adhere to.
I love these books, the author has created an excellent dystopian series that I can easily see being made into a movie or tv series. The characters are diverse and original and I particularly liked Daniel with his determination and interest in finding out about what the 'outside' was like before the 'Construct' was built. It made very enjoyable reading when Brise and he were finding out about the months of the year, and our agriculture etc from books hidden in the Hall of Records.
I can't talk too much about the plot in case it spoils it for any reader who hasn't read Part 1 yet but there's also a tantalising peak at Part 3 coming next year and this too looks highly entertaining and intriguing with a tempting insight into what might just begin to escalate within the walls of the 'Construct'.
All in all these books are a fantastic example of what excellent dystopian thrillers should be, that I highly recommend and I wish the author all the best with both books.

I really liked this series. This second book in the series is about twice as long and just as good. Now I have to wait for the 3rd on to come out!

Author Anna Lynn Miller provided a print copy of Construct 11 Part 2 for review.

Let's get right to the point, this book is great. Obviously part 2 means there was a part one (which I read and reviewed) and I think this continuation is even better than the beginning and the beginning was pretty darn good.

Although this book calls to mind the 70's movie Logan's Run, is in no way a rip-off of that story. It's more like a behind the scenes look at a Utopian society. Of course the decay of the society is being uncovered by the young people (who else). It is fun reading as the teenagers discover things from history that they just don't understand. Example that is not a spoiler; they find an old globe and they can't figure out what the blue parts are. Many of those kinds of discoveries.

I'm really impressed by the authors ability to stay in the new societies language and not use words familiar to us that are out of place int the world she has created. Excellent attention to detail. Good character development, eminently readable and interesting. It held my interest all the way through. I understand the third installation has been delayed, but I am eagerly waiting to see how the story unfolds. I'm hooked.

We have dystopia within utopia, romance (c'mon, teenagers), political intrigue, suspense, violence, basically all the things a utopian society should not have. Great fun to read. I recommend it. Enjoy!

The characters that were introduced in Construct 11 Part 1 really came to life here. I really like the vulnerability that I experienced in the characters as they begin to realize that not all is at it seems in their hyper-controlled world that seems to be coming unraveled.

Parts of this book really reminded me of how I felt as a teenager - especially the guy/girl dynamics. So sweet!

The book ends with plenty of mystery. Not only are there relational questions that need to be untangled, but what is the outside really like! How will this group of teenagers manage their emotions after their discoveries?

This carefully crafted tale is well worth the read!

"They all paused to watch as the full circle of the silver disk rose big and golden, actually, over the jagged edge of the sky..."

In the first book of this series we were introduced to Daniel, his caretakers, and the construct they live in. We quickly learn that there is something deeply wrong with the construct. Due to strict behavior rules, purposefully limited language (a bit like 1984’s Newspeak), and enforcers at every turn no one dares to question the status quo.

In this second book we follow Daniel as he and his friends begin unraveling some of the mysteries behind construct 11. We follow them and a number of other characters as they pretend to go along with the rules, while secretly sneaking around for their own purposes.

By the end of this book some major discrepancies between reality and the “official” version of events are uncovered, but much is left to be discovered. I am eagerly looking forward to book 3.

First Impression: I can't wait to read Part II in this dystopian series!

Characters: Daniel and the rest of the Seventeens grow and mature while acquiring knowledge the Leaders never wanted them to find. Caretakers (parents) show their human flaws, and a predator roams the Construct.

World Building: Life inside Construct 11 is appropriately depicted as confining. I can't imagine living in a world where the sky is only seen through the roof of a building. There's a not-so-surprising yet satisfying ending to this installment that makes me want to read the third!

Writing Style: I appreciate Miller's ability to write for all ages while keeping seasoned readers interested. Once in a while I wished for better conversations between the teenage characters however, as they felt very Leave It To Beaver.

What I Enjoyed: Many of the themes in this series and installment are new ideas. Secret lives and hidden treasures made me bring this book with me everywhere. The chracters are overall authentic and the plot deals with issues in everyday society.

Deal Benders: The women are all depicted as helpless and emotional children who need men to protect them - this really annoyed me even though it makes sense in such a closed society story. I would like to see stronger female characters in Part 3 please!

Overall Rating: 4 stars - I really like this story and want to find out if the characters leave the Construct. Hopefully creating space for capable females along the way.
