“Everyday is Ashura, Every land is Karbala” The LAYLA JOURNAL is a literary journal put together by The Kawthar Project. Our first issue, the Muharram Edition, explores Imam Hussain’s and his caravan’s sacrifice during the tragedy of Karbala. Presented with the choice to pledge allegiance to an oppressive regime or face death and torture of his family, Imam Hussain chose justice. Imam Hussain’s legacy lives on to this day thanks to his sister Lady Zainab’s example. He reminds us how to live with honor and stand up for “Death with dignity is better than a life of humiliation.” Through heart wrenching poetry and gorgeous art, each artist in the LAYLA JOURNAL VOL. 1 continues the legacy of Lady Zainab by commemorating Imam Hussain’s stance against oppression. Our contributors are immensely talented and we are humbled to have their work in this Ali Al Hussaini, Bathool Amin, Fatima Ali, Ghulam Hur Hasnain, Haider Ali, Hassan Salamey, Mahnoor Ahsan, Maryam Hussain, Naimal Rizwan, Professor A.L.I, Rabab Jafri, Sakina Ali, and Soghra Fatima. Beautiful Journal

This journal is absolutely beautiful and showcases impeccable talent of the youth from the west. The detailing throughout the pages do not go unnoticed. Definitely worth a read! Excited to purchase future volumes as well.
