This happens once in a blue moon. But I can’t continue this romance all because of heroine. She threw away hero’s love and married another man. I’m a reader enough to admit if it was a man/hero in this instance I would’ve castrated his character 7 ways to sunday. So it’s only fair!

This was not what I was expecting. In fact it was a real let down. The h ended up being a high end thief with skills in breaking and entering, gymnastics, and parkor. This made no sense after the way she was described in Driven by Desire or what you find out about how she grew up. This story was way too similar to Driven by Desire and Bound by Blood. It was pretty easy to figure out that the next book, Capturing Victory, will follow the same themes. Anyway, I had a problem with the H letting the h get married and not watching over her after claiming to be obsessed with her. Of course, she ends up marrying the one guy that was a total jerk and treated her like garbage. Let me take this opportunity to roll my eyes since every ex is described as the worst person ever. What does it say about the h that she picked such a loser and allowed herself, even with all her skills, to be taken advantage of for so long? Considering what she is able to do for the H at the end, it should have been a cake-walk to find the evidence the ex was blackmailing her with. I was also disappointed in the way her depression and self-injurious behaviors were handled. As a psychologist, I can say that it is ABSOLUTELY not the way to deal with those issues and actually in this book, those issues are never resolved. Basically the h enjoyed pain which was a real turn off for me. There was a long separation when the h gets married and another year separation that came out of no where. Then the H and h are back together so quickly it was really anti-climactic. I hope the next story is better and the h is not some CIA/FBI/Cyborg/Magician. I want my regular female characters back.

Nikita Slater is becoming one of my favorite authors. I loveeeee her J/P males so much and can not stop reading her stories once I get started. Her novels are compelling and addicting and are just so delicious. The chemistry between Roman and Katie was fiery and exciting. I never wanted this story to end!

This story had so much to love. An assassin, cartel lord and all around bad guy and an equally impressive art thief and a mysterious woman of secrets he has loved for years. Roman and Katie were absolute fire and I for one was OBSESSED. I can't wait to read more! 5 stars! ~Ratula

It started out so good. I really liked Driven by Desire and this started out strong, but then Roman turned psychotic and Katie got weak. I hate when that happens.

Roman was taken with Katie since he met her when she was 13 and he 20. (He didn't act on it but ok, a little creepy.) The timeline's an absolute mess, though. Seventeen years later and she's only 28 and he 36? Shit like that bothers me.

Anyway. Roman tells Katie on her 18th birthday that she's his, yadda yadda. She rejects him knowing he'll just lock her away and keep her for himself. He acquiesces but leaves with a "I will come for you Katerina" or something like that. Then some years later... 8? She marries some other guy but they get divorced like two years later, I don't know, this book's timeline was like one long algebra equation and no, I'm still not over it.

My favorite part is that Roman remained celibate since he met Katie... or she was 16. It depends on which chapter you're reading. Anyway, the hero remains celibate for the heroine for a change and I loved that.

But now Roman's tired of waiting for Katie so he does the reasonable thing and kidnaps her and keeps her on a boat. While on the boat he discovers Katie used to cut herself a million years ago, so Roman consults a professional via telephone for about 4 minutes and determines that he will give Katie the pain she seeks - pain she apparently hasn't sought out for years - and cure her demons.

I'm not a psychologist, but I'm pretty sure that's not how people get cured.

Roman beats and screws her a bit, but Katie's convinced her job is too dangerous.... even though Roman works for the scariest mob boss on the west coast, and since she's a stealthy little cat-burglar, of course she gets away.

A year passes and Roman is beyond pissed that Katie dared betray him and leave. So after getting his shit together, maybe by investing in some nice 401ks and mutual funds to convince her they're good for each other- wait, nope. Sorry, nevermind. He resurrected his family's old cartel and is now the baddest Mexican cartel boss on these here streets.

Why'd he do this you ask? I really have no fucking clue. He claims he had to be bigger and badder in order to keep her because she was stealing art for some other big bad boss, but that reasoning just convinced me Roman had a brain tumor and needed critical care, STAT.

Now he's the cartel boss and ready to reclaim Katie so he does the gentlemanly thing and convinces her boss to throw her under the bus in exchange for some info on a hacker no one knows the identity of. Now Katie's back in his clutches. And he's just so fricking excited and enraged to have her back that he hangs her from a hook in his kill room and beats her with a whip, drawing blood. It's just a little though, no biggie. And then he uses the handle of the whip and forces it inside of her despite her protests. But she gets wet! It's ok people, it's ok. She was wet while crying, it's cool. No harm, no foul.

Considering she's sufficiently scared to shit that Roman no longer even seems to like her much less love her, she's constantly planning her escape from the specially built tower room that he has constantly guarded, locked, and with barred windows. But not before a forced wedding.

Come onnn. You knew it was coming, right? I did.
Well, she's not thrilled at the prospect and throws a little tantrum. So Roman screws her into lobotomy territory so she walks down the aisle without a fuss. Now married, Roman still doesn't trust her and continues to lock Katie in the tower, and Katie's a world-class art thief with the willpower of a horny teenager so of course she makes another run for it. And now I have a headache and am running out of steam, so I'll just say Roman hunts her down again, realizes she's on his level and would make an excellent co-criminal war-lord. HEA. The end.

OH. EM. GEE. This. Story. Right. Here. I have not experienced so many emotions in one book in a month of Sunday! The most prominent emotion...anger! I swear I stayed mad while reading this juicy story!

I wish I can tell you how many times I wanted to slap the taste out Roman, or how I wanted to knock Katie on her hind parts! If only these two would listen to me! But then we wouldn’t have the dramatic scenes and woooossaa moments! This story is INTENSE! It’s DARK! It’s DELISH! Readers I’m literary trembling holding back from one delicious part in this story. One of many! Wooooooosssaaaa!

I must convey Slater nailed awareness and respect to mental illness in this story. I can’t say anymore or I’ll ruin it for you! Congratulations and thank you Slater for a job of excellence throughout this story!

Five amazing stars!

4.5 STARS!!!

Thieving Hearts by Nikita Slater was an intensely emotional story full of suspense and intrigue. This story captivated me from beginning to end. Katie and Roman's story was an amazing journey of journey of two people with an undeniable connection clashing together in love and lust.

"His beautiful, innocent Katerina. He would do anything for her. Except let her go."

There was so much history and so many emotions between Roman and Katie, and that played a part in how things developed after they reconnect. There was nothing simple or easy about these two, both individually and as a couple. There were times where I wasn't sure if their love could withstand all of the strain that came with their relationship. The journey they took was necessary for them to come full circle with each other. Neither time, nor distance, nor other elements could sever the bond that tied these two people together irrevocably.

"The only man she'd ever truly loved. The man she feared above all others. He'd finally come for her."

What really made the story for me was the level of obsession that Roman had for Katie. He took stalking to a new level, and she affected him to the point where he changed the entire course of his life and his family's history just to have her in his life. I loved how completely infatuated he was with her and how devoted he was. Yes, he was vicious at times, and there were times when I wanted to smack him, but he had a singular obsession with Katie that drove his every action. I have to give massive props to the author for writing a strong, loyal hero who knew what he wanted and didn't try to settle for anything less. The only reason for the half star is the fact that I couldn't really connect with some parts of the couple's sexual relationship. I loved their connection as a couple, but there were some parts in the intimate scenes that I couldn't really enjoy. That didn't take away from the overall story for me though, and I still loved the other aspects of their relationship. Slater does the push-pull element between the hero and heroine so well, creating a feeling of uncertainty and unpredictability that makes the reading experience so great for me. She did it flawlessly in the other stories I've read by her, and absolutely mastered it in this story.

"As always, he stared back at her with a dark intensity that made her feel like both the only woman in the world and his hunted prey."

The suspense, combined with the epic love story spanning the course of 18 years, made this an incredibly entertaining story. The author also touched on some important mental health issues in the story, and handled the topics well. Slater has quickly risen to the top of my favorite author list, and I look forward to reading her future books. She set the stage for what looks to be another intense pairing with two characters we met in this story, and I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Good lord what a read! I loved Roman Valdez. I loved Katie. I loved her their struggles and I love their smutty delicious romance!

description

Roman is as obsessive and stalkerific as the rest of Nikita Slater’s hero. Roman is relentless and at times I just swoooooned. His dirty talk, his high handedness and his obsession with Katie..Lord

description

Katie as a heroine doesn't disappoint. She is struggling and has faced a lifetime of pain. She is beautiful in her strength and her resilience and you can't help her fight!

description

The author does give you a warning so please be cautious. Overall I loved this and I am looking forward to the nextrelease from Nikita Slater !

This one was a little uncomfortable to read😟. In fact it touched a few nerves. Whew!!!😅 Nikita surprised me with THIS One, in so many ways. I felt like I was reading a whole new Author 😂. I'm not saying anything about what I read, I'm just saying, even though you have read her work before, this one may surprise you 🤔. It did me.
I even found in some areas I read I slightly '😒disliked' Roman🔥. Lol, and That surprised me as well. Because I love reading Alpha Males who are slightly stalkish and unhinged😵 where their women are concerned. Which he was, in spades! But there was some scenes that was too😭 much for me. But I soldierd on and kept reading. And I'm so glad 😁! He was the perfect tempest to her 🤪 madness. He had to be. That's what she needed. And he was all about giving her what she needed. So ❤️Roman!💪You. ARE.💯tha Man!!

Wow, as always, I adored this new Nikita book! I had to wait until I had time to read it because I knew I wouldn't put it down and boy was I right. Roman was intense, insane and overall just too much of everything. The way he stalked and loved Katie had me holding my breath to see what he would do next. My heart went out to Katie, she didn't think she was good enough for his love and made so many mistakes along the way. It was heartbreaking, beautiful and explosive to see them finally come together. I will definitely be rereading this one.

Bit too dark for me

Read the first book in this series, enjoyed it. This one was a bit too much for me in places. There's a lot of non consensual violence and sex, and it really annoys me that the main female character just kinda gives in and accepts it. I get that some people like S&M, but lot of those scenes were driven by rage, something I wouldn't have thought plays any part in the S&M scene.
For me there's no real love shown but obsession and control. Although this book has a warning about self harm it doesn't really feature that much, the warning should be about the violence and dubious consent.
A shame, as the storyline is good, and would have been just as good without all the violence.

I love this book very much. This book had a lot of surprises, I am one of those readers who like to predict what is going to happen next, well I learnt you can't figure out where Ms Slater is going until I get there...lol.

In the Driven Hearts Series every story is a stand alone but some of the character lives are intertwined. Ms Slater also does a wonderful job of surprising you with characters from her other books/series. Lookout for an appearance from a character in Because You Are Mine.

I read this when it was first released and didn't realize I hadn't left a feedback. If you are a fan of Ms. Slater you already know how awesome her books are. If you haven't read her books, give them a try, just pick one, you wouldn't be disappointed. I have read thousands of romance novels from all Genres and Ms. Slater is one of my top 5 Authors. Her novels are a little bit more than your typical romance, but after reading the same kind of novels over and over you want something different and she certainly doesn't fail to disappoint. They are all unique in their own way with Alpha Heroes and Bad Ass Women who keep them on their toes....Enjoy! I know I did...lol.

Nikita Slater gets darker here. Her hero more psychotic-ish and uber possessive. And. I. Loved. It!

Second book's about the heroine's bff from the first book. Hero's the bodyguard/driver of the hero. It was hinted that they will highly unlikely going to have their own story and I'm so happy that Nikita did one for them and that it was a good one.

Though like I said, this book gets darker in its theme. Same old underground theme but way harsher in terms of the characters approach. Which only means this author can jack more darker stories.

It worked well anyways seeing as I did enjoy this book although that's because I freaking love my heroes borderline psycho and crazy possessive.

Great plotting and the flow of the story didn't went stagnant. There were just scenes and words and approach to this story that others may not find likeable. But I did. But I love my dark reads..so.. *shrugs*

Just ready yourself for a much darker romance from this uthor. Although guaranteed HEA and OTT alpha here.

Bold

Thieving hearts is a very bold and fast paced novel. It started off with a bang from the very first chapter. The timeline jumps a bit; this couple spent many years a part. The heroine, Katie, seemed to always be running from the Hero, Roman. I didn’t completely believe or perhaps even understand why she was always running from Roman. It seemed like there were complications that needed to be better explained.

I read book 3 of the Driven Hearts series and it was amazing! I wasn’t impressed with the heroine in this novel as much as I was in book 3. Roman on the other hand was phenomenal! You could feel his passion leap off the pages.

Overall I gave this novel 3 stars.
Multiple POV
The bedroom scenes were absolute FIRE! If you are into pain / pleasure then this book is a must read!

I have a love hate thing going on with dark romance, but NS has a way of drawing me in anyway and I am addicted to her books no matter how she writes them. On this book, Roman is just so bad but his Achilles heal is Katrina. He knows what he is, but he doesn’t fully realize what SHE is. Her mental health, her drive, her self healing, it’s all new to him. The story in this book is just so good for those of us who love an H who pursues, over years, his destiny, which has been Katie forever, and no one else. I loved reading about his coming to terms with what Katie needs in her life and especially how Katie found her way towards demanding that he see her as a capable trustworthy partner. Such a good book.

A Thrilling Ride with a Dose of Reality

I loved Katie and Roman’s story. The span of time it took the two to come together and their explosive reunions were perfectly illustrated. Also, Katie’s both strong and delicate nature was nicely juxtaposed against Roman’s dominating and obsessive personality. The two were meant for each other but came together as fully developed individuals that could complement one another best. Katie’s psychological issues were also handled respectfully and honestly, which was a great way to shed light to real life circumstances many people face.

Loved it!!!

Loved it!!! Must read!!!! I love this author and her dark erotic reads. I like this book the best out of this series so far. I 've been trying to read everything I can of her s since read last series. I like reading about the Mafia and Cartels. I thought the touch about cutting was integrated perfect into the story. So many people suffer with this and you don't see this unless seeing them unclothed. Roman was a scary 2 nd on command and even scarier as the Cartel boss. He was good at hiding his emotions but his love for Katie never was far away.

So deliciously dark

This read is a bit darker than the others I have read from this author, but put with just the right amount of alpha sweetness makes it all the more intriguing. I do like how the author touches on some difficult subjects, but doesn’t linger/lecture on them, just enough to bring attention to those sorts of situations. Great job. So can’t wait for Sources story!!!!!

Ok, so I received this as an ARC copy and I must say, very impressed and not let down at all. I loved the storyline, enjoyed the chemistry between the heroine and the anti-hero. I also liked the side characters, Keane & Nhardi. Nikita, I hope you plan on writing a book about Keane and Nhardi? I truly enjoyed their banter. The build up to finding out who the villas is and his reason for his hatred if Ivan Vogel was great! I ❤️❤️❤️this book. It’s a must read.

“Everything about this brutal human screamed violence. The very air surrounding him was a chaotic mist of death and she’d willingly flung herself into it for family loyalty.”

I could not put this series down. It is filled with mafia alpha men, passion, revenge, thievery, secrets, loyalty, self harm, depression, friendship, healing, lust and steamy goodness.

“He’d taken her penance. He’d blackened his soul just a little bit more for a woman that didn’t deserve his adoration.”

why i, personally, didn't rate it higher: sadism with the intent of seriously punishing a woman is a trigger for me, especially when the woman is in emotional/physical distress and is questioning whether the man loves her at all anymore.
ive learned that nikita slater's darker and more sadistic heroes don't appeal to me. and that's okay! she's still one of my favorite authors, and i love her other manhandling, possessive, less actively sadistic heroes.

Oh, the things we didn’t know about these two! Katie has been keeping big secrets, and just when we think we know them, more appear. No wonder Roman was getting frustrated, he was thwarted at every turn. It takes quite a bit on both their parts to move past the pain and hurts, and their relationship will always be explosive, because these two positively spark and flame whenever they are in each others atmosphere <3

Mafia romance, older H, wants the h, but she is very young, He waits for her, he is celibate but she marries someone else. Lots of triggers, self harm, spanking but the ugliest part of the story is the h. She has a story but I found her very unlikable and they were both cruel people. Good writing, just not the right genre for me.
