Chase’s grandfather is missing, and he asks Odelia to help find him. And since Odelia’s editor has told her to find out who the new Hampton Cove Santa is, she gladly agrees. After traipsing all over New York City in search of Grandpa Kingsley, and the new Santa, they have to declare defeat. Lucky for them, there’s still Max and Dooley, Odelia’s feline sleuths. Will they find out what happened to Grandpa Kingsley? And will they figure out who the new Santa is? Get into the holiday spirit with Max and Odelia and find out in this first series of short stories from the Mysteries of Max series.
This bundle contains three short stories. The first one is Purrfect Santa, which features Odelia and Chase, offering a rare glimpse into Chase’s past. It is accompanied by two more short stories, Purrfect Christmas Mystery and Purrfect Christmas Miracle, written from the viewpoint of Max and featuring the blorange sleuth and his best friend Dooley.
Nic has a background in political science and before being struck by the writing bug worked odd jobs around the world (including but not limited to massage therapist in Mexico, gardener in Italy, restaurant manager in India, and Berlitz teacher in Belgium).
When he’s not writing he enjoys curling up with a good (comic) book, watching British crime dramas, French comedies or Nancy Meyers movies, sampling pastry (apple cake!), pasta and chocolate (preferably the dark variety), twisting himself into a pretzel doing morning yoga, going for a run, and spoiling his big red tomcat Tommy.
He lives with his wife (and aforementioned cat) in a small village smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is probably writing his next ‘Mysteries of Max’ book right now.
I read this one last after all 24 in the series but it is 4.5 and has the old council and mayor who are spoiling Christmas.
Chase's grandfather is missing, and he asks Odelia to help find him. And since Odelia's editor has told her to find out who the new Hampton Cove Santa is, she gladly agrees. After traipsing all over New York City in search of Grandpa Kingsley, and the new Santa, they have to declare defeat.
When Odelia’s mailwoman doesn’t show up one morning, Max and Dooley are worried something might have happened to her. Bambi Wiggins is their favorite letter carrier, after all, as she always comes bearing treats and cuddles. So the fearsome feline duo set out through the snow and sleet of pre-Christmas Hampton Cove, in search of Bambi. When they finally find her, they’re in for a big surprise, and a genuine Christmas miracle.
It is the night before Christmas, and not a creature in the house is stirring… except for Max and Dooley, wondering if Santa Claus is human or feline! To decide the point, Max convinces Dooley to go up on the roof and prove once and for all that Santa is a cat. Heavy snowfall soon thwarts the brave feline sleuths’ plans, and they’re forced to return indoors, where it’s warm and dry. Their efforts are soon rewarded, however, as they unexpectedly discover Santa’s true identity, and it’s definitely not what they thought!
Please bear in mind that this is a very short story and the mystery is only a mystery in the broadest terms. In fact like me you will have soon twigged to what was going on but nevertheless it is a sweet read. But the most important thing is that Chase might be starting to hear the cats. The mayor has gone with the modern approach to a christmas tree that most residents hate. After a scathing editorial they have hired a new Santa and Dan has lost his job. Also no one will tell her the name of the new man. Chase is also worried about his grandfather as he's had no contact with him for weeks. A tip off tells her that the new Santa works for a famous department store and a trip into the city looks on the cards. That works in their favour as his grandfather also lives in the city. Will they find what they are looking for or will they come home empty-handed? Or will the cats provide the final clue? Plus why is their post being delivered by Bambi's husband?
This is a sweet second installment in the Max Short mysteries series. Chase and Odelia search for Chase's grandfather who has mysteriously gone missing. Odelia is also searching for Hampton Cove's new Santa so that she can write a pre-Christmas article about him. The kitties, Max and Dooley, are great assistant sleuths and prowl the streets searching for clues. A lighthearted, lovely book that is a fun read during the holiday season.
The Mysteries of Max encounters the Christmas season. In these 3 delightful stories Max & Dooley wrestle with what happened to their favourite letter carrier, Bambi. Also, Chase’s grandfather has disappeared & where is Hampton Cove’s new Santa? In the 3rd story, Max & Dooley try to prove Santa is really a cat. Dive into these stories with Odelia’s babies as they learn what Santa is really about.
Oh my gosh. Those were just so stinking cute. Santa Claus is coming to town, and if Max and Dooley can stay out of trouble (hah!), everybody might have a merry little Christmas after all. And we might just learn a few secrets about Chase and his family while we’re at it. And they might bring into question everything we thought we already knew. At the end of this book, I had the biggest, silliest grin on my face and a happy little glow in my heart.
Thoroughly enjoyed this little mystery! Would have liked a bit more Max and Dooley, but it was great within itself. Had some nice humorous parts. Plus there was a twist within the story that I hope is explored in future mysteries. I most assuredly recommend this fascinating series!!
O loved this series. I like books that follow on, one to the next and getting to know the family and a how they connect. I love the thought process of the cats, they come up with some fantastic reasoning for things is crazy humans get up to. Can't wait to read more.
of this series and if you like cats like I do, I am sure you will enjoy this series. Thanks.
This was a short, cute little cozy mystery. This is the first book I've read by Nic Saint, although this little book was really packed. The story was well-written, well-paced, and entertaining. Worth the time to read. I'm hoping my library obtains other books written by this author. Well worth the time to read.
Three wonderful tales of Max and Dooley and their human, Odelia Poole. Very entertaining and in some places hilarious. Looking forward to another book in the series.
I have read all the Max books and this on is not like the others. Did someone else write this? It does not have the fun tone or cute characters. Very disappointing.
Purrfect Christmas stories for the cats. A missing grandfather, a steel Christmas tree, and a disgruntled editor and a missing mail person combine to create three Christmas short stories of the cat sleutgs. Very good
This is a fun quick mini read in the series focused on Christmas and Santa. There are two mini stories at the end that show the cats view of the story.
