Dairy-Free Death is book 2 of P. D. Workman’s Auntie Clem’s Bakery mystery series. The most interesting part of this story (which I liked quite a bit) is the fact that Erin is the owner of a bakery that caters to people with all sorts of food allergies. Every one of her baked goods comes with a list of the ingredients, so that anyone with a particular food allergy might avoid purchasing a potentially harmful food item. Seeing as how she is so careful with her bakery items; she is particularly stricken when one of her cupcakes is used as a murder weapon. Consequently, she resolves to investigate. The investigation leads her on a path of discovery that can unearth her past as well as put her fledgling business in jeopardy. High recommend on this short, but gripping book.

The second book in the Auntie Clem’s Bakery Book Series, Dairy Free Death opens with Erin and Vic happily dishing out delicious dairy free and gluten free goodies in Clementine’s Tea Shoppe in the lovely little burg of Bald Eagle Falls. A new customer breezes in, looking for some vegan choices for herself and some to share with her boyfriend, who just happens to be the son of recently deceased Angel Plaint. His plan is to reopen Angela’s bake shop, which everyone is sure will worry Erin. But soon enough, Erin has more than cupcake competition to worry about. Another death in this sleepy little town? In such a short time? And Erin is right in the middle again! More mystery ensues as questions arise about Erins past, Vic’s family connections, and the strange goings on in the Plaint family. How can one tiny Hamlet hold so many mysteries? I can’t wait to read Book Three!

My second read from author P.D. Workman (the first was so good I had to read another immediately), although I own several of her books I’d never gotten around to reading one and after I’d acquired Auntie Clem’s Bakery #3 I wanted to read the first two books in the series before reading it, I really don’t like to read books out of sequence. Dairy Free Death is extremely well written, the characters well developed. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make a reader get invested into the characters and thereby the book and now in the second book of the series you already know the characters and can appreciate the continued growth of the characters and the community.

If you need some light reading, try this series. There is always a murder — due to allergies in this series— but the plot is easy to read and understand. I never figure out who the murderer was so the author must be doing her job. This book has an interesting sub-plot of a transgender youth and small-town gossip. This is the second book in the series and the reader is left hanging with the last sentence. Now, I have to read book #3.

There are times when I like a quick read that is not too serious and this book fills that bill.

Dairy-Free Murder part 2 was a real good read. I like the way you are guessing trying to get one step ahead of the writer. Workman does a good job of weaving different mysteries int one story and only giving you the answer to one. Can hardly wait to read. #3 to see if my guesses are right. Keep up the good work.

I enjoyed this book, as I did the first one of the Auntie Clem's Bakery. Good characters, interesting story, but it ended kind of funny. Our heroine solved the mystery, but then it said something to the effect of, if you want to finish reading this book, buy it here. I just felt like I had finished it and was ready to read Auntie Clem's Bakery, #3, which I will probably do.

Erin felt like she finally belonged in Bald Eagle Falls . Vic was working out great at the bakery and there sharing her home. Then another mystery and murder happen. Secrets and black mail and murder keep Erin and officer Terry busy and the towns people talking

Loved it. A wowzer of not who did it but who did what to who? The book ends
full, but yet seems as if it might be a cliffhanger.. Sort of but not really.
Can't wait to read on in the next book..

This is the second book in this series. This reader is getting quite emotionally caught up in the main characters. Great whodunit. I must confess that my favorite part is the mystery of the identity of The Jam Lady, but I refuse to say whether or not that mystery is solved. BRAVO!

I liked it

I read the first book and liked it and decided I needed to read this next book in the series after reading the preview. It had twists and turns that I never imagined and a surprise ending. I have now just purchased the next book in this series. Good read!

Erin and Terry

Erin is exploring a relationship with Terry the policeman in town. His German shepherd K-9 is not getting along with Orange Blossom her kitten. Erin is getting better acquainted with Vic, her assistant and house mate.

Characterization and plotting are excellent.

I really enjoyed this newest book in the series. Many twists and sub plots that make me anxious for the next one. Would make a great Hallmark series. Recommended

This was terrific! At first I worried that it would be yet another cozy involving food and animals. But it is so much more than that! Now I can't wait to go back and read the first one!

3.75 Stars / Ended on a cliffhanger. I guess this is a true series as opposed the standalone cozy mysteries with the same set of characters. I think I prefer standalone. I did like the characters but the story dragged a bit in places.

Could have been better

This was kind of rushed toward the end I thought. I still enjoyed it, especially the descriptions of the inn and the food.
