I am not a psychologist or a therapist, so I can't comment on the methods of therapy included in the book, even though they were a fascinating and thought-provoking read. I am, however, a professional storyteller, and I mostly read this book as a story collection with extensive comments.
It is well worth the read.
Peseschkian chooses his tales from his background in Persian and other Middle Eastern traditions. The stories are all clever, thought-provoking and challenging, and even though most of them are short and compact, they have multiple meanings and can lead to long conversations. Every storyteller needs these "Aha!" type short tales of wisdom and wit in their repertoire.
Even if you are not interested in psychology: Read it for the stories!

This book is an insight into how real world psychotherapy works. It was a great help in understanding how personalities and unusual behavior in humans through short and simple folklore.
A must rad for budding psychologists or those who think of themselves as Counselor (read pooja bedi).

A pretty interesting read, definitely makes you think about the purpose of traditional stories and tales. In a way they have already been used to guide people or point out certain behaviors indirectly for centuries so their use in psychotherapy might even be natural for more traditional practitioners.

My only complaint is that some of the stories just seem random and don't seem like they have any point to them, some of them are down right appalling given today's society. So maybe cultural differences should be taken into account when telling someone one such story.

The other thing that gets a little bit annoying is that they are all oriental stories and while I don't have anything against mullahs and middle-eastern rulers, it would have felt a lot more relatable if the stories were from multiple cultures.

A classic in using classical wisdom tales and metaphors with clients. This approach comes in the side-door rather than the front door engaging patients and allowing them to search for their own meaning.

Stare priče, koje pisac koristi u svom terapeutskom radu. Zanimljivo i čitko, možete nositi sa sobom i čitkati dok nešto čekate.
