The Tales of Aelzandar #2

The Errant Princess

Rate this book
A decade has passed since Aelzandar joined the Grey Mages. A new faith sweeps the lands of Goriinchia, and an ambitious warlord unites the disparate tribes, but in the north Alusine Ran-Tyron ascends to the Emparian throne, hoping for a glorious and peaceful reign.

Aelzandar's time with the Grey Mages comes to a tragic end, and though Alusine's favour rescues Aelzandar from a horrific fate, Aelzandar cannot help but think of those he has lost, even as he tutors Alusine's daughter, the Princess Ellinda, in the ways of the Art.

When Ellinda flees her loveless marriage, Aelzandar is honour bound to find her, even if doing so disturbs the ghosts of his past and uncovers a far more dangerous and insidious threat to the future.

All-in-all this was a satisfying read and I give it 3.8 rounded up to 4-stars.

This is a short story that requires to be read in sequence after The Grey Mage and is part of an ongoing series of short stories about the Magi Aelzander and his adventures.

If you like short stories that are not too complexed then this and The Grey Mage will probably suit you. The author does fit quite well into the more traditional (old-fashioned) way of writing fantasy. If you like an Elf in your fantasy then look no further.

There were a few errors that I picked up on, though that has become commonplace in this day and age, so no biggy. You don't find many perfect books nowadays.

It also had a "Lord Sterry" in this particular tale! A little showing of appreciation from the author for my feedback on his other work. Thank you, Aidan Hennessy.

Thanks for reading.

UPDATE: Cover reveal!

The Errant Princess, the second novella in the "Tales of Aelzandar" series, will be released in 2018. It is a standalone read, but reading it after the Grey Mage will maximise enjoyment and there are also many connections between it and "The Ap'Lydin Chronicles".

Stay tuned!
