If you think you need this book, you need this book! I started using it right away, and haven't stopped. It is really well-organized; you just pick it up, and away you go. I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways.

It's in the title folks, this book is essentially a recipe book for charm bags and not much more. If you are interested in crafting your very own charm bags, this title belongs in your library, and will make a good reference book.

Well, I skimmed the charm bag book. I don't recommend it. The author is heavily into rituals, for starters. She tells you to always cast a circle and to end with consecrating every charm bag. Her instructions for making your own talisman, in part, calls for pricking your finger and adding blood and if you can, add your sweat. No thanks.

I'd like to think the 100 charm bag recipes would be useful, but I don't actually think most of them will be. Either their a little obscure, or call for whole herbs I've never heard of. And although she said you can make the charm bags out of felt and add essential oils to the bags themselves or to herbs that go in them, this doesn't seem like a good idea when she said add 7 drops of each and then names off like 5 different essential oils. You shouldn't saturate a bag like that.

I though perhaps I could use some of the charm bag spells to make spell jars, and I probably can. I skimmed the book and it took me an hour. I read every spell name. She gives the common uses for all herbs and gems she suggests, but I already had that info. Just not comfortable with the author's style. The way she works her magic. If I use any of the spells she lists, I would definetely make changes to all of them, to make them more me. What is powdered benzoin? cascara sagrada root?

The bag of wishes spell calls for you to write your wish seven times with magic ink made by mixing ink, ashes, powdered holy cascara and two drops of your own blood. Then suggests to make it more powerful to add your own nail clippings. I'm just not comfortable writing in my own blood mixture and adding nail clippings. A "charm bag spell to Combat Hypocrisy and Lies: Craft a purple bag and fill it with powdered agrimonia, centaury, larch, and walnut and a small mirror. Add a few drops of cinnamon oil. " Whole spell, no other instructions. I have no idea what the first 3 ingredients even are. Using her own book resources pages... benzoin is an incense, but she called for it in a powder. She also lists benzoin as a plant or herb. Agrimonia is an essential oil from a flower. And I can't find larch or centaury except in spells, so no idea what they are since it's not in her lists of herbs and plants, incenses, oils or gemstones.

Her spell bags for holidays includes 1 for Samhaim, 2 for Yule, and 1 for Walpurgis night. Evidently that's the night before Beltane. So for 8 sabbats, she didn't do anything for 5.5 of them. It has a lot of info sprinkled in it for moon phases and whats best time or plants for that, zodiac symbols, etc. Someone else might find this all useful. To me, she seemed to ramble on and cover so much, and skip around enough, including all this, that not enough time was spent on the charm bags. Of her 234 page book, only 65 pages cover her 100 charm bag spells. The spells need more instructions and the meanings behind what was added and why would have been nice. Unless you can borrow this from another witch or your local library, I wouldn't recommend anyone else waste money purchasing it as I did.

Elhoim Leafar's 'The Magical Art of Crafting Charm Bags' (MACCB) challenges my skepticism toward most occult literature. Leafar's refreshing perspective offers a deeper exploration of charm bags, surpassing the surface-level content typical of introductory texts. While some aspects, such as his recommendations regarding closed religious deities and his use of potentially outdated terminology, warrant consideration, the depth of insight and practical guidance provided in MACCB outweigh these concerns. Leafar's meticulous attention to detail transforms charm bag crafting into a precise art, from astrological alignments to magical correspondences. Moreover, his inclusion of both DIY instructions and preplanned recipes caters to a diverse range of practitioners, making this book a valuable resource for intermediate witches seeking to expand their craft. MACCB is a definitive guide authored by an expert, earning its place as an indispensable reference on my bookshelf.

This book is a wonderful reference and teaching guide for many things besides the art of crafting charm bags; the author dives into aspects of color, insence, candle magic, zodiac, herbs, essential oils and more. No matter what path you are one you can find great information on this book!
