"I am half agony, half hope. Tell me that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more than you own..."
I really enjoyed 'The Constancy of Lovers,' from Persuasion, where the character Anne, after a period of 6 years of separation, meets her past lover. She has grieved and suffered much during those years, while remorse and regret had been her lover, Fanny's teacher. A sentimental and uplifting read!
In this mini series, there are 4 chapters, which are selected from the following novels.
— Sense and Sensibility
— Pride and Prejudice
— Northanger Abbey
— Persuasion
The collection explores the subject of marriage both romantically, and as a satire of the social customs surrounding married life, any more than those marriages motivated by money and status or frivolity.
For those who don't plan on reading Austen's work extensively, this might be a good book to check out.
