Hazel and her husband stopped being separate people years ago. They live their happy life in the always crowded, mostly sunny, and sometimes sweltering city of LA. Though they haven’t managed it yet, plans are afoot to add a kitty to the household, thereby giving the allergist fits.

Hazel has been writing full-time for several years, with some traditionally published work in other genres. But it’s her indie-published romance that fuels the creative fire. It turns out writing isn’t a job, it’s an obsession.

When you can pry Hazel’s fingers from the laptop, you’ll find her: on the elliptical watching a documentary, indulging her audiobook habit, or spending quality time with Candy Crush. Although she’s vegan, she’s a disaster in the kitchen. Luckily, potato chips and pinot noir come ready-made.

I received this book as an ARC with no expectation of a review or what might be written. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Immortal Highlander Book 3, wow... I loved it. You can read any of the books in the series as stand-alone, but reading them in order will give you so much more detail. Hazel is a superb writer and craftswoman of the art of the romantic adventurous sexy story. She gives each story the proper amount of historical background and story arc so that anyone just picking up this one, will not be lost. Her writing is flawless, no typos, nor syntax errors. It has an anti-hero, villains galore, swash-buckling fights, and tender love scenes.

The book starts out in modern times with Rachel Ingram, now an adult orphan after her parents burned to death in an electrical fire in their master suite. She is still depressed, but is convinced by her finance, David Carver to go through with the marriage so that he can help her cope with her loss. He was supposed to take her away to a cottage for their honeymoon, but instead they arrive at a grassy knoll surrounded by tall stately oaks. He has a blanket spread out and a basket for a picnic for her. Soon, she learns that he has actually, physically stabbed her in the spinal cord and she is dying. He dumps her into a shallow grave and proceeds to shovel dirt on top of her while she is still alive. He wants her billions of dollars left to her from her parents. Rachel finds herself swirling through a tree and leaf filled tunnel. She wonders whether her parents will be there to greet her.

Meanwhile, our anti-hero, Evander Talorc is once again bringing flowers to the grave site where he buried his love, Fiona Marphee. She had turned traitor and spy for the undead (vampires). They wanted to control all of Scotland including the Isle of Skye where Clan McDonnel has a hidden stronghold. She died of the pox only 3 days after being infected. As Evander sets the flowers on the grave, the ground moves and a hand reaches up. He thinks it is his Fiona and quickly uncovers her. But, it is not Fiona, but someone knew has come through the time gate. Only those with druid ancestry can access the time portal in the center of the standing stones guarded by tall oak trees.
He finds her white clothes strange, the fabric very fine and shiny, her stockings like spider webs. It is her back that most trouble him as it is all bloody. But when he tries to find the wound, it is not there.

He carries her back to his cottage at the edge of the forest. He must be careful as her language is not like his fellow villagers. It is a time of superstition and many are suspected of being witches and tortured accordingly. He wants her to always stay close to him, not venture out on her own. He gives her some of Fiona's clothes and cloth to make more of what she needs. Rachel finds that Fiona weaved a very fine linen-like cloth on her loom. Both Fiona and Evander are wanted by clan McDonnel under sentence of death for being traitors. Now that Fiona is gone, Evander is still a wanted man, facing certain death if he is caught by a McDonnel. Rachel has an unusual gift. She can read the minds and intentions of those near her, including Evander.

Meanwhile, the last remnants of the Roman army, now vampires, want to own all of Scotland and the northern isles. Tribune Quintus Seneca has made a Scottish lord into an immortal vampire, not just a thrall who blindly does his bidding. The Lord Ermindale trades in outlawed slaves and even oversees the killing of his wife and daughters. In the past book many thralls and vampires were killed, they are now rapidly replenishing their fighting forces to take on the McDonnels.

Every chapter is exciting and flies by. I could hardly put the book down to go to bed at night. So much happens, both good and bad. You won't want to miss this wonderful adventure from 1316.
after a great many trials, we do get our HEA, but it is the getting to that point that is wondrous.
5 perfect stars from me! Thank you Hazel Hunter. I look forward to book 4.

Rachel Ingram had the powerful gift of intuition but after the sudden death of her parents her abilities were silenced. Rachel is engaged to David Carver. Because she is still grieving, he convinced her to move their wedding forward by going to the courthouse for a civil ceremony rather than undergoing the emotional task involved in a large wedding. She agreed. Immediately upon leaving the courthouse, she falls asleep and awakens when David stops the car only to discover they are in a grove, not the planned ocean side honeymoon retreat. She was confused but David was more than pleased to tell her his life plan and she suddenly understood everything.

Anger was a way of life for Evander Talorc, an immortal who has lived almost 1200 years. In all that time, he has never had a mate, that is until he met Fiona Marphee. Their relationship cost Evander his clan and "family" of immortal brothers. He and Fiona had not been together long before she died. He visits her unmarked grave frequently in the 6 months since her passing. Today as he is reaching across her unmarked grave, he feels the ground shift and a hand reaches up! Is it possible she has found a way back to him?

Welcome to the Scottish highlands, the year 1316!

Once again Hazel Hunter has created an immortal time-travel masterpiece and a third addition to the Highlanders Series. Each book is a stand alone story with no cliffhanger endings but with so many intriguing characters and such a complex story, there is always room for another tale and today, Evander is the perfect solution. The story picks up where Evander disappeared and gives the reader the back story of why he left and what became of him. We are reintroduced to the McDonnel clan members who are more than willing to remind Evander about his departure. A couple of new ladies have been added to the immortals and oddly enough, both of them transitioned time through the same portal as Rachel. It is an interesting time filled with twitching skinwork, walking dead, and countless individuals with very unusual capabilities...oh, and the Ninth Legion is back, lurking in the shadows of night awaiting the chance to destroy the McDonnel clan.

The story is fabulous. The characters are memorable. The detail and vast...and the interaction between Evander and Rachel is off-the-charts HOT!

Favorite message in the book: "He knew, just as she did now, that no great design or immense purpose had brought them together. They had been two lost souls, battered and broken, abandoned and forgotten, and somehow they still found each other, and love. Love was the reason."

I was fortunate to receive an advanced reader copy of the book and am pleased to say it was a truly wonderful story that kept me in my seat, spellbound and "enthralled" from beginning to end. I have absolutely no problem recommending this book to any reader interested in reading a very well written story about time-travel, brotherhood, loyalty, and love that endures time. Once again Hazel Hunter has earned her five gold stars for another job well done.

I think this was the best of the series so far. I wasn't sure I could like Evander after his betrayal of the clan in the last book but he was redeemed in my eyes.

Rachel was stabbed in the back, literally, and buried alive by her new husband. She was transported through time and was saved by Evander who took her to his remote cottage. He was kind to her even though he was mourning the woman he loved.

Rachel has a new ability. She can read minds but she doesn't tell Evander.

The plot is getting more complex. The undead are always a threat but the druids are up to something too. I am sure we will be learning more in the upcoming books.

The next book is about Tormod, the Viking. I love Vikings!

Whoa...

Evander really surprised me. He gets his comeuppance, in a way, and it truly humbles him. If an immortal can ever be considered humble... Good story.

This book surprised the hell out of me...I hated Evander in the first book and so no way he could be redeemed. But love came along...and when you saw Evander through the eyes of the woman falling in love with him....you couldn't help but fall in love. This was hands down the best book of the series.

Great story, but....

Brought me to tears several times. The intimate details were a bit over the top at times. Which is why I gave a four star rating, I am far from a prude but the graphic sexual passages didn’t seem to propel the story forward. I found myself skimming to get on to the next part of the story. Overall, the actual storyline was incredible. It kept me flipping page after page trying to guess what could be next for Rachel & Evander.

ANOTHER FABULOUS ADDITION TO THE SERIES & MY NEW FAVORITE !!!
Title: Evander
Series: Immortal Highlander
Author: Hazel Hunter
Designation: Book Three of Series, Full-Length Standalone, No Cliffhanger, Medieval Historical/Time Travel/Fantasy Romance
Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Five Sexy Riveting Stars*****
**Disclaimer: Although there is an underlying interconnected storyline running throughout the series, each release focuses primarily on one couple finding love and their happy ending. I believe each of the books can still be read as standalones. The author does a fabulous job of giving the reader sufficient backstory, but I recommend reading the books in order of their release. It's one decision I'm sure you'll rever regret.

Oh my! I loved, loved, loved this book! I'm fascinated by stories featuring mythology, folklore, and fantasy, adore Time Travel Romance, infatuated with Medieval Historical Fiction, addicted to steamy romance, obsessed with strong, sassy heroines, completely smitten with sexy Scottish Highlanders from any century, and when I can find it all in one great read, I'm in heaven! And that's exactly what Hazel Hunter delivered in Evander, the third riveting release in her new Immortal Highlander Series! There are so many things I truly enjoyed about this book so let's talk details!

Evander is a captivating, imaginative, fast-paced, exceptionally well-crafted and edited, full-length standalone historical medieval time travel romance with paranormal, supernatural, and fantasy elements, and filled to the brim with compelling drama, pulse-pounding danger, edge-of-your-seat action, daring adventure, nail-biting suspense, heart-wrenching angst, steamy passion, and heartwarming romance. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with multiple perspectives and this story had quite a few. I stopped counting at seven! lol... In some instances, multiple points of view can be somewhat confusing to a reader if they aren't skillfully written, but Hunter does an excellent job. All the perspectives are clearly discernible by chapters. I always enjoy stories written with clearly defined multiple perspectives. It allows me to know the thoughts of all the primary characters, not just the protagonists, and I especially love it when we know what's going on in the convoluted minds of the bad guys. I think it adds so much more depth and understanding of the story. The dialogue is smart, snappy, and flows effortlessly. Obviously, Hunter did her research. I found the language and terminology of the era to be articulate, exceptionally well executed and authentic to the era. In other words, Hunter's fourteenth-century characters spoke like fourteenth-century Scottish Highlanders. In reality, none of us would be able to understand an actual fourteenth-century Highlander, but Hunter did make them sound as realistic as possible, which definitely added to my enjoyment of this story. But without a doubt, my favorite element of all of Hunter's books is the characters, and this story is no exception. Hunter gives us a large cast of intriguing, engaging, and well-developed characters who literally explode from the pages, grab your imagination, demand your undivided attention, and completely capture your heart. I fell head over heels for the two protagonists, present-day heiress Rachael Ingram and fourteenth-century immortally cursed Scottish Highlander Evander Talorc. OMG! I loved these two characters! Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed all the characters but the lovely, heroic Rachel Ingram grabbed me in the first few pages of the book, and I became completely obsessed with surly, ill-mannered, totally despicable, and completely unlikable Pritani warrior Evander Talorc when he was introduced in the first book of the series as the woman-hating and always disgruntled Sensechal for Clan McDonnel of the Island of Skye. In Book 2, Evander became even more detestable when he betrayed his clan for Fiona Marphee, a woman from a nearby village who'd served as a spy for the undead Roman Legion. The two fled together, never to be heard from again - or so everyone thought. Personally, I suspected we'd not heard the last of Evander and was ecstatic when I learned the third book would be devoted to his story. I've always been intrigued by an unrepentant, but hopefully redeemable antihero and Evander Talorc fit the bill perfectly. He's the kind of character everyone loves to hate, which made him all the more interesting! And Rachel Ingram's story just broke my heart! OMG, I was blubbering like a baby before the end of the first chapter. But the interaction between this unlikely couple is truly remarkable and completely mesmerizing. Their attraction is undeniable and their fate inescapable. Unlike the other couples of the series, when Evander and Rachel meet, you know it can only be fate. Both Evander and Rachel are grieving over past mistakes and desperately try to deny what's between them, resulting in a slow, sensual and very steamy burn, the likes of which can neither be ignored nor denied. But once they finally surrender to their feelings, it's katie-bar-the-door! Oh my! Sparks fly and passion ignites! Evander and his war spirit are totally bada$$! lol...There wasn't as much humor, but there was just as much emotion, if not more, in this story. Heck, I think I sobbed through the entire book! I still have whiplash from all the plot twists, and there were quite a few scenes that just ripped my heart right out of my chest but by the end, I was happy, satisfied, well entertained, and completely smitten with Evander Talorc! Well done, Hazel Hunter! Well done, indeed! Evander is my new favorite! I have no idea how Hunter will top this book, but I have every confidence she will!!!

Did I like this book? No, I loved it! I was glued to my seat, white knuckling my ereader, completely captivated with my heart fluttering wildly in my chest as the time flew as quickly as the pages! I could not stop reading! I'm totally smitten with this entire series and can hardly wait to see what Hunter has in store for her readers in Book 4! I've already preordered my copy! Would I recommend it? You bet and I a but only for adult readers since it does contain several explicit love scenes! If you enjoy well-written medieval historical tales with supernatural elements, and liberally seasoned with time travel, action adventure, danger, drama, passion, and romance, then this book is screaming your name! And if you loved the movie and series Highlander, this story will, most likely, tickle your fancy! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

Shortly after losing her only family in a fire, wealthy heiress Rachel Ingram marries David Carver, the son of her influential parents' trusted attorney. But instead of the happy honeymoon picnic her new husband promised, Rachael receives a dreadful surprise. Only hours after their wedding, Rachel's new husband stabs her in the back - literally - and buries her alive. Too bad her lifelong intuition about people failed her when she needed it most. She'd never been able to get a read on David and should have suspected it was because he was an unfeeling monster, incapable of love. Unfortunately, Rachel discovers too late he only wanted her for her newly inherited billions. But instead of dying, the blood from her mortal wound activates her Druid ancestry and transports Rachel through a magical portal to the Highlands of Scotland, 800 years in the past. And straight into the arms of the traitorous, cursed, immortal Highlander, Evander Talorc, who had been about to take his own life at the grave of Fiona Marphee. Oh my! Rachael awakens with no idea where she is or how she survived, but the one thing she does know is the fierce, frightening warrior Evander Talorc may be her only hope of remaining alive. Will the unlikely pair find a way to avoid their enemies, save each other, and possibly find true love in the process? We'll see! Buckle up, my lovelies. Evander and Rachael's story is one heck of a wild ride!

What it’s about…

Rachel Ingram’s parents have recently died in an electrical fire in their home. David, Rachel’s fiance, has encouraged her to move up their wedding. After putting her legal affairs in David’s father’s hands, Rachel and David drive off to a justice of the peace and then to a seaside cottage honeymoon. Rachel hasn’t been feeling well and falls asleep on the drive to the cottage.

David is full of surprises for his new wife. Not only wasn’t the power-of-attorney she signed for him, but for her billions of dollars. Now the seaside cottage has turned into an oak grove picnic. And the sweet HEA she envisioned has turned into a stab in the back, literally. As Rachel bleeds her life away, David digs her grave. Once he has a shallow trench, he lowers her into it and begins covering her the dirt. The couple talks the whole time about why he’s doing this. It appears David has huge gambling debts with threats attached to them. Rachel is his easiest way of taking care of them.

Evander has brought flowers to Fiona’s grave for six months since she died of the plaque. Today, as he lays the flowers on the grave, a hand grasps his forearm. Could this be his Fiona come back to him? And he digs out the woman in the shallow grave. She has a lot of blood on her back but she seems to have no injury. She speaks strangely and wears strange clothing. This is a time of superstition. Evander takes her to his home and takes care of her. He gives her some of Fiona’s clothing and teaches her how to do things the way they do things here. He keeps her safe.

Can these two broken people heal each others’ hearts? Can Rachel help Evander reconnect with his clan? Can they help the clan resolve the problem of the undead?

Technical Tidbits…

The cover is the same style as the other two books in the series. This time the plaid is purple, which appeals to me greatly, being my favorite color.

The storyline is very good. I’m not sure where Ms. Hunter gets these ideas, but she’s really good at it!

The characters are excellent. Of course, we have the characters we know from the previous books, Lachlan and Kinley from Book One and Tharaen and Diana from Book Two. Plus we are familiar with the people who work around the castle and the other chieftains who are normally in attendance around Lachlan. There are usually one or two of the druids around as well, so we’ve gotten to know them. We even know a lot of the undead Roman legion. Hazel has done a wonderful job of introducing us to both Rachel Ingram and Evander. We met Evander before when he actually stabbed Tharaen in the neck, which is the only way to kill one of these immortals.

The pace was good. It moved along rapidly, but not so fast that you couldn’t keep up with what was going on.

The tension was good. It didn’t have me on needles and pins because having read the two previous books, I was comfortable with both the style and the concept of the books. So I had certain expectations.

Hazel Hunter has a wonderful style and quality to her writing that makes any book she writes a pleasure to read. This is not her only series. Nor is it the only one I read of hers. I have never been disappointed when I have picked up one of her books. It surprises me that her name is not better known. I am certainly doing my best to get her name out there. You can look forward to seeing more of her books reviewed here on my blog and all the sites I post.

And this is where you STOP if you don’t want to see any SPOILERS…

The good, the bad, and the ugly…and how much it lit up my life… ✰✰✰✰✰

I love the characters that Hazel has created this time! David and his father are the sleaziest ones. His father is Rachel’s lawyer. A rather intimate relationship, don’t you think? Well, he introduces David to Rachel for just the purpose David has in mind. David has huge gambling debts and he’s being threatened with danger if he doesn’t pay them off. So he needs someone with big money to be able to pay them off. He tampers with the wiring in the family house so that it burns. That separates Rachel from her parents and leaves her completely alone and vulnerable. What would be more natural than to turn to your trusted lawyer and your fiance, especially when they are father and son? Sleazebags, both of them! Too bad only one of them gets punished! Is that considered being quartered?

The table is what convinces Rachel that she has traveled back in time and this is real. And she accepts it so passively. That amazed me. She never really fought any of this. She wasn’t happy about the clothes, but she seemed to accept everything else. She actually seemed to prefer this time to her own time. Well, except when the “chicks from the future club” met. Then they all had things from the future they missed. They all agreed TP was the most missed item. I’m not so sure about the inside of birch bark. And Rachel had asked Evander to make her a simple rotisserie so she could cook her meat without the constant stewing and hauling all the water. She’s very clever about blending the times and finding ways to adapt.

The to-ing and fro-ing between life and death was rather interesting this time. It was done a bit more in this book than in others. It was even bargained for. Evander throws his deadly spear for which he is so well known and skewers Rachel and the Marquess Ermindale. That makes him dust and the undead run away. Evander grabs Rachel and offers his life as forfeit to Taraen, but Lachlan claims the right as chief of the clan. That’s Rachel and Evander dead. Then the spirits of Rachel and Fiona meet in the grove and Fiona is reuniting with her father there. She tells Rachel to tell Evander that she really didn’t mean to betray the clan and she wishes him the best. Then Evander and Rachel meet and Evander explains he has forfeited his life for her and Rachel is returned to life. She grabs the druid Cailean and forces him to bring Evander back using something she’s seen in his mind. Lachlan and the clan accept that Evander has forfeited his life once already and can be accepted back into the clan. So now they are both alive and immortal. And Fiona’s spirit is settled with her father’s. For some reason, my mind was taken with all this running around of live and dead people trying to settle Evander’s debt. It sort of became a cartoon in my head! I won’t draw it, but after you read it, I think you’ll be able to picture it, too!

I’m all set to get the ARC for Tormod, now, so that I can continue the story. I love this series! It just takes me awhile to get to each book because I have so many books scheduled to read! Starting Monday, December 4th, I will be reading Christmas themed books until Christmas, then I go back to regular books. And I’m already scheduled into February! I do some swapping out with requests and my own choices when I need to. My New Year’s Resolution is that every Monday I will have a review of the “In Death” series by J.D. Robb. I have been meaning to re-read this series for some time and now is the time. I now own all but 4 of them in e-book format, so I’m going to start reading them right after Christmas. I know they aren’t new, but I don’t always read new. And this is a series worth reading again! That’s why I bought it! Who knows, maybe y’all will read it along with me and we can discuss them along the way.

By Hazel Hunter
(Immortal Highlander Book 3): A Scottish Time Travel Romance

Can two lost souls forge something beautiful from something that is so very broken?

Rachel Ingram looks like she's living the dream life. Heiress to billions, she's engaged to the perfect man, but with the sudden death of her parents, her world is turned upside down. Then she discovers her new husbands true nature and her life implodes.

Evander Talorac is a man we met in the first book and his life is nothing less then a nightmare. Justly labeled traitor to his clan of immoral Highlanders, he lives alone in a remote cottage away from others, but his life wasn't always this way. Once he had a mortal lover who he gave everything up for, but she died of the plague. Then one night he visits her grave at the center of the grove and finds the unbelievable.

Abandoned and forgotten Evander and Rachel find each other, but will they be able to hide forever or will Evander's past catch up with them and bring their world crashing down?

Hazel Hunter brings her characters to life in your mind. While you read it's like watching a movie play out. I'll be honest I didn't like Evander until this book which now sheds a whole new light on the things he's done. This novel is written very well and flows beautifully with the two novels before this one.

I wasn’t sure what to think about Evander getting his own story—even though I knew it was going to happen. I was curious to see how Hunter handled it to be honest. It was sad to see what occurred with Fiona, but I seriously didn’t like her anyway. It was just sad for him seeing how he had been treated his whole life. Though if I think too hard it makes me wonder how the heck they didn’t pick up on this after 1,200 years, but they’re a bunch of guys so what would one expect when it concerns emotions?
The undead’s progression is interesting, but it makes me wonder if their plans are going to be foiled in every book and if they get beat so bad why don’t they just wander out into the sunlight and get it over with?
Rachel’s power is pretty freaking scary, but I think Evander needs that in his corner to be honest.
Despite my reservations about somethings I still enjoyed this book. I read the first four books in the series back to back.

3.5 stars. Evander is the third book in the series Immortal Highlander and is a full length novel. This is can be read as a standalone. But there are so many more clan members stories to be told so why stop with reading just one? Evander's story began in the first book, so it would be helpful if you have already read Lachlan. There is violence and hot steamy sex scenes so 18+.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. The author did a great job of describing the setting and the main characters Evander and Rachel. There are a lot of clues in the storyline that keep you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next. It definitely kept me reading. I look forward to reading more of this series.

Amazing

Amazing! Loved this book so much. Even though Evander was not a nice guy through most of the first two books, I knew he would be redeemable. In the second book, he left his clan and the only life he knew to save the woman he loved. He tried to slow Raen down by putting a spear in his shoulder but Raen moved at the last second and got hit in the neck. He felt guilty and pain about what he did but there was nothing he could do. So he wasn't a total loss with no feelings at all.
In this book, we see him six months after Fiona has died, visiting her grave in the Grove. He has decided to end his life by confronting the undead. But lo and behold a hand reaches up from Fiona's grave. At first he thinks it might be Fiona. But as he digs around her face area he sees that it isn't. When he pulls her from the grave she has fresh blood on her back. The undead have smelled her blood and are coming to the Grove so he takes off and goes into the river to the cottage him and Fiona shared.
Rachael's parents were killed in a fire. She gets married to her fiance early because she doesn't want a big wedding and David has been her rock since her parents died. David takes her to a Grove of oak trees under the pretense of a picnic, but stabs her in the back and buries her alive. She is then pulled from her grave by a stranger who tells her that she is now in fourteenth century Scotland instead of present day San Diego. Oh yeah, she can now read minds!
There is a lot of drama and twists to this story. We see some of the clan some droids and of course the undead. We receive quite a bit of different information that will explain some thing's and lead us further down the path as to who the people that are brought back are.
This book had me crying at one point because of the strong love that formed between Evander and Rachael caused some very emotional things to happen.
Read this book to find out all of the gritty details. You won't regret reading this series!

I will admit up front - tears. While I like a book that can make me feel, I certainly didn't expect it from this one. Which is not to say I haven't enjoyed the previous two stories - I did. But, Evander.

Having read the first two, I did wonder how Evander was going to find his redemption. He found it in spades. In this one, he truly learned to love and put others first.

Like the previous two tales, Rachel ends up involuntarily leaving 21st century America for 14th century Scotland. Evander finds her at the exact needed time, rescues her, and helps her recover and adjust to her new surroundings. Having seen Kinley arrive (Book 1) and adjust, he is at least familiar with what is happening and aware that it is most probably important. It is good to see two hurt souls take their time learning to be friends, heal their hurts, and then be open to more.

When the outside intrudes on their little bubble, Evander and Rachel are already it for each other. The lengths they are willing to go to for each other, as well as the clan, are the stuff of real heroes. Satisfying end - including a very medieval end to David's treachery.

Well written and well edited. Truly enjoying this series. Looking forward to Tormod's tale.

I didn't bother wasting my time to finish this book, within reading a few pages, Evander's character was written to not have much affection or care for women yet he loved a woman so deeply he turned his back on his clan (from what I gathered of the few pages I read) to run away with said woman and apparently killed(?) someone in the process, and just within hours of meeting Rachel, a stranger he poured out his troubled tale to her, I mean wth?? and Rachel, talking about David doing unspeakable things to her, she didn't go through years of abuse and torture, in fact she didn't even know he was poisoning her or that anything was wrong until he stuck a knife in her back, and I can't imagine someone waking up in an entirely different century and being so calm, being around a strange man and hearing his thoughts in her head and seeing through his eyes even before they had a proper conversation, again, wth? and all this happened within the first few pages. This was my first time reading this author and it's definitely my last, by the ratings I know I'm an anomaly.

Waouhhh already the third one of the series!
This one is different from the previous books, the two first took place in the island of Skye, here the setting is outside, with two loners. It has less humour and more introspective times due to the two main protagonists.
Evander is now all alone, fully lost since Fiona, his lover and ex-spy for the Undeads died from the plague.
Rachel lost everything and what was left was stolen from her by her cheater of husband.
They were meant to meet.
He who can’t trust a woman, she who trusts too easily.
Soon sparkles fly around them, she makes him forget his pain, she could a life with only him as her man.
Of course, the plot is much more complex with the Undeads still expanding around to destroy the McDonnel tribe.
The story is still narrated from plural points of view, which shows the many perspectives of the storyline. And it is nice to see again some characters from the other books.
If you liked the other volumes, you won’t be disappointed by this one.

>Book Review – Evander
>I am an independent reviewer. This is the 3rd book in the Immortal Highlander series and ends in an HEA. Evander betrayed the clan in the 1st book. He fell in love with a mortal who was a spy for the undead, but through coercion. She eventually died. When Evander goes to her grave to visit, another woman digs out of the grave. Rachel is from the future. Her husband buried her alive and she was sent back to Evander. Rachel can read minds, but hides this fact. Once Evander finds out about her power, he really isn’t too upset.
>Evander and Rachel tip toe around their feelings, as Evander is now afraid of love. The scenes in which Evander is judged by his clan are heartbreaking. The new battle with the undead is just as exciting as previous battles, with each new undead leader being worse than the last.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. Rachel and Evander are a good fit for the clan and an unlikely couple, but they work together.

4.5 Immortal Stars🌟

Evander is the third book in this Scottish Highlander time travel romance which fuses modern and old together seamlessly😍

Rachel has just lost both her parents when her fiancé insists that they get married in a civil ceremony as opposed to having a big celebration🍾 Unfortunately, Rachel’s new husband has ulterior motives for getting married so quickly and she sons finds herself in Scotland in the fourteenth century😳

Evander betrayed his clan by running off with his mistress and “killing” one of his clansmen. After his mistress succumbs to illness, Evander buries her in the grove and visits her occasionally. On one such occasion, he witness something/someone trying to crawl out from the ground where she was buried😢 He is bewitched by Rachel but tries to fight his attraction to her. Some very interesting twists have come about towards the end of this book and a few emotional moments which I didn’t expect, especially after not liking Evander in the earlier book.

Can’t wait to finish off this series…two books to go🤩

I voluntarily received a free ARC copy of this book for review, and here it is. Evander is the 3rd book of the series and I have to say it had a few twists in there and if you recall from reading book 2, Evander is a traitor to his clan for running away with Fiona. This book here really comes to light with why he did that and now he comes to meet Rachel who again is from the future and falls through the grove. I do not like to give spoilers to the books, so here is what I think of it from my own perspective. Evander has his faults, but he is a good man at heart, and when he finally finds Rachel we actually get to see his heart of hearts. Lots of love, passion and of course suspense and fighting. Recommend to anyone who enjoys a good Scottish Highlander hotty and a clan of brothers to boot.

Sometimes you just have to root for the bad boy in a series and Evander is him. I have to say that I was rather pleasantly surprised that the last book saw him running away. Of course he had to do something spectacular while making an exit stage right, but I never saw it coming when he gave a life threatening injury to one of the immortals while doing so. He is one of the characters wrote about that you "love to hate". However, we find that what he had done haunted him even as he ran. While in exile he life turns badly until Rachel comes into the story. She is the light that changes it all.

I was given this book from the series and can truly recommend it as a great read. So different from the first two books of the series, but no less special. Hazel Hunter is a writer extraordinaire.

It's time for Evander Talorc to pay for his sins as the McDonnel clan catch up to him.

More than a year ago, Evander sacrificed everything and ran off with his mortal lover Fiona leaving Tharaen Aber for dead. A deed which is punishable by death. Lachlan and the clan have been reluctant to pursue Evander, until now. A tragic turn of events finds Fiona dead, and Evander is truly alone.

Rachel Ingram is living the American dream. Rachel is young, wealthy, and beautiful but with an extremely poor judge of character. Rachel doesn't see her fiance for who he is after he stabs her in the back, literally and kicks her into a grove, which leads to her untimely fall down the rabbit hole. Rachel arrives in the fourteenth century with the gift of mind reading, which she cautiously keeps to herself. Rachel is found by none other than Evander when he arrives at the sacred grove to tend Fiona's grave.

Evander falls hard for Rachel, and Rachel knows because she has read him from the beginning, but after her last relationship, Rachel is a bit more cautious with her heart. Eventually, Evander wins Rachel over, and they are happy in their cottage until Rachel is kidnapped by the pesky Ninth Legion. Word of Rachel's kidnapping spreads to the Druids who, besides Evander, are searching for her. Little does Evander know that his search for Rachel will bring him face to face with the clan he abandoned and his punishment awaits him.

I considered skipping this because I was not a fan of Evander. In the end, I was curious to see if he could be redeemed. In modern times, Evander would absolutely be an incel. Rachel was ok, but she managed to entirely overlook Evander's many and major red flags. I guess if your husband tries to kill you, the bar lowers a bit. If I was reading a man's mind, and he continued in turns to think about how horrible women are and how much he wants to have sex with me, I doubt I'd be throwing myself at him.
On the other hand, he made good choices at every point in this book.
It's a bummer that the druid conspiracy is mentioned so briefly and vaguely because while I was fascinated by it in the last book, in this one I just felt frustrated by its *again* only being alluded to.
Tormud should be interesting.

This series continues to keep me wanting more. I believe it may be my favorite series by Ms. Hunter. After the first book, I didn't think it would be possible to make Evander a character you could like. I was wrong. The relationship between Rachel and Evander was one of "healing" for both. Rachel's "druid kind powers" may have helped with her being able to accept what was going on faster than Kinley and Diana did. I think this helped move the story along and allowed you to concentrate more on Rachel and Evander's love. Ready for book four.

Rachel came from a very rich family and loved both her parents. She lost them both in a fire. when their killer goes after her she ends up in the past.

Evander is now a wanted man by the people . He ran away with his mistress fiona but in his escape he killed one of his clansmen.
Now he has found Rachel. Can two damaged people heal from betrayal? What about his clan man. Oh and then there are the undead Romans!
I loved this. So many twist and turns it will make your head spin lol. Great characters that you can't help but fall for. I couldn't put it down. I am hooked and can't wait for the next book to come out!
Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.

Another amazing story !

I loved it! I have read the first two books in the series and highly recommend both. What amazes me is each book gets better and has a unique plot! Often I find the further in a series you see too much repetition and the books weaken, but these just get better.

I laughed and cried with the characters, while enjoying the plot twists. This book was deeper than the first two books.

If you enjoy strong, smart female characters, emotionally deep alphas, paranormal themes, great plot twists, and sweeping descriptions that make you feel you are actually in the fourteenth century Scotland then this series is a must read for you.

The author does a wonderful job with time travel romances. This series is very appealing to me as a fan of historical romances as well as paranormal romances.

Rachel and Evander are two people without much hope. They have both lost so much and feel very alone. When they meet, everything changes.

Their connection is so intense and they really have to battle for their love. I really enjoyed watching their love grow and their hope for a future together.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

After reading the first two books in the series, I was so mad at Evander. I picked up and put down the book at least three time because loyal as I am (even to my fictional characters) I just couldn't get past his betrayal. Yet, when I finally gave him a chance, gave this book a chance, it brought me to tears. Its is odd to say that I found forgiveness for a fictional character or that the way the end played out was extremely gratifying beyond measure. I just wish Seoc was around for it all. A great read, looking forward very much to Tormod! Oh, one last thing....NEVER fack over a Druid.

I adore this series, and this is my absolute favourite so far. I'm a sucker for the whole anti-hero deal, and Evander can't get further out of range of hero status. He is imperfect, has done terrible things but is extremely endearing. His mate is also far from perfect, but the whole things just fits together perfectly. Fast paced, hot, this book answers some questions I had from the first two volumes, although now I have new ones to ponder...

This is the third book of the Immortal Highlander Series, a time travel/paranormal romance collection. Rachel has been betrayed and is paying the ultimate price. Evander has lost his mortal mate and has been branded a traitor. These two meet up most unexpectedly, and a new adventure has begun for them. Can they survive together? This was a wonderful new book in the series, and I can't wait for the next installment! Each book is a standalone, but can be enjoyed as a series as well.

This is a tale of love changing the nature of a man and his ultimate sacrifice to save the clan. Both Evander and Rachel have suffered great loss. Rachel, her parents and then her own life and Evander, losing Fiona to the plague after only a couple years with him. Together they are stronger and Rachel's gift is much needed in the clan. New and disturbing information is revealed and not just about the undead, it will be interesting to see where the author takes us next.
