It’s all fun and games until someone catches feelings.

If there’s something Pio Alvez is good at, it’s pretending to be someone he’s not. On stage and on-screen, the actor has mastered the art of becoming the characters he plays, and his new role should be no different. After all, how difficult would it be to pretend to be smitten with a beautiful, intelligent go-getter like Audrey Alonzo?

Perhaps it’s more difficult pretending not to be.

The follow up to Waiting in the Wings. That book had two lovely heroes vying for the girl; this is the one who lost, and I one clicked as soon as I saw his story was out. Pio is a poppet. This is a lovely light fake-relationship story, with a bit more heat than many #romanceclass titles and tons of heart. The pair of books make for a delightfully cleansing read if you're sick of toxic masculinity.

I MELTED. I AM TOO SOFT.

SCREAM. SCREAM. SCREAM.

I loved every minute of reading Like Nobody’s Watching. I am soft. I have melted.

Much more screaming and love

description

Okay, now that was established. Let’s pour out more feels. Like Nobody’s Watching is my first Tara Frejas book! It did not disappoint, again I loved every minute of it, every word in it. And now I am hearing about the other one, Waiting in the Wings. [I’ll definitely get on that!]

“Who knew proximity could impair someone’s hearing?”

I love Pio and Audrey, as characters. What makes me love them more; whether they are going in as a couple or as individuals, their characters are very distinct, very real, flawed and perfected to bits. I could cry. OKAY, I DID CRY. THANKS A LOT, MISS TARA. I was overwhelmed by the characters. All of them. I read this one out while on a queue for evaluation at work. I should read these more often while on breaks. It boosted creativity and my lagging mind to finish everything more efficiently and undeniably with super work mojo for a mood.

Going back, Audrey and Pio, they present a great facade. Underneath it all, my heart melts. It has dealt and shown:

a.) respect, for each other, for the people they work with, generally everyone around them

b.) the value of hard work. Everything is never taken for granted, they work hard, they aspire the best person they could be professionals in their respective fields, the responsibility on their shoulders. Knowing more of their industries.

c.) their family, asjdkhkdfhslkdfghsl!! In reading #romanceclass novels, most of the books I am looking forward to is how the author would present this dynamic. And most reads are ended up me loving it. Sibling relationships, there’s always that on point jesting with the siblings/cousins, with the parents, how they react, simply the overall bonding? I looove ’em!

d.) banter/script that is thrown around will hook readers from page cover to page end cover. If you’ve read it and didn’t like it. It’s okay too and I’m sorry. But I highly doubt one wouldn’t. It’s funny, it’s flirty. It’s sexy. It will take the freaking air out of your chests!

d.1.) reading through the narration gave me chills, my lips quiver from scenes that captivated me and invested me so well, I laughed at scenes as if I were their friends, I am angry at the things that made them angry too, and I had been screaming 99.9% of the time because if I didn’t what is even the point?

“And oh, I’m sorry…you thought this was about you?” She beamed at his bewildered face. “No, honey. I don’t have that much free time.”

e.) y’all the topic of cheating/moving on, I have limited reads on romance books on cheating and it is often portrayed as yikes; when I say this but this one played a healthy one. We love us a woman who sees her worth and no longer engaging such distasteful behavior.

f.) the entirety of the plot

READ IT. YOU’LL THANK ME LATER.

I mean, synopsis

“It’s all fun and games until someone catches feelings.”

Yes! I was hooked. It screams my name. Read me. Read me.

“You’re the heroine of this story, remember that.” “And you?” He stepped back and shrugged. “Who knows? That’s for you to decide.”

g.) the writing: it was wonderful, love makings included! It was eloquent, it easily boxed me in my sit and left wanting to until the last.

h.) it talked about passion for theatre, the love and passion pop out of the book!

“I was part of Dulaang Diwa’s production design team for three years.” “Wow.” “Uh-oh.” Audrey paused to look at him. “Are those hearts in your eyes?”

i.) flip through more pages for there’s a surprise at the end’s end! aka there is an epilogue!

I had been rambling, my breakdown is repetitive. Like Nobody’s Watching is a great read and it shows. Do not doubt me now. Hahaha

This book was one of my most anticipated novels for this year. If you’ll remember, I read Waiting in the Wings earlier this year and loved it so much. I think everyone who’s read the book would agree with me if I say that everyone of us fell in love with Pio Alvez, even just a bit. So I was really excited when I learned that Tara was writing a book, a spin-off, about Pio! I immediately signed up, when I heard that there was going to be a blog tour for this one!

I enjoyed Waiting in the Wings so much that I went into this one with big expectations especially with character backgrounds, since the romance aspect was pretty much established. We’ve seen a glimpse of Pio from WitW, despite that, his character still managed to surprise me in many ways. Pio Alvez is a softboy!!! Okay, so if you haven’t read WitW yet, Pio is an actor and basically a theatre legacy, this was also established in this book but I do recommend reading WitW first so you would have a deeper understanding of Pio’s character.

I really love Audrey’s character. She’s smart, level-headed, and sassy, yet vulnerable and a bit of a damsel in distress for a duration in the book. She’s also family oriented, actually they (Pio) both are, which made her character really relatable. The chemistry was established pretty early and smoothly, I must say haha! I really enjoy reading their banters, with them trying to one-up each other. This was also an upgrade in terms of the steam level so that’s one thing to look forward to *winks*

It’s a little hard to talk about the plot without me spilling the beans but it was well executed. I had a huge expectation for this one and I’m so glad it didn’t disappoint. Tara Frejas has a way with words that makes her books difficult to put down. This book just sucked me into the wormhole of fluff, a little angst, steam, and more fluff. Also, did I mention that this has a fake-dating trope??? It’s one of my favorite tropes so hell yes! So if you’re into that and other things, I totally recommend this book!

Last thing, did you see that cover????? I love the cover and the model so much. I love this initiative of the #romanceclass community to have Filipino models on covers because obviously we need this representation and visibility. I’m sure if you’re familiar with the community, you’ve already seen Fred Lo in other covers. In case you didn’t know, Fred is one of the live readers that #romanceclass invites during events and he’s an absolute sweetheart. So I’d like to take this opportunity to commend the #romanceclass team and the models who took part into this initiative!

I liked this, it was light and fun; fake relationship but he’s really into her all along, which is definitely my jam. I liked that he was willing to be what she needed, and really adores her for her competence and ideas. Their chemistry was lovely, and I enjoyed the way they worked out the fake relationship parts, and especially how they navigated that first big party situation. Also can we take a moment to appreciate a cover that really suits the book? The colors, the light, the watercolor quality, the expression on Pio’s face…it’s perfect.

This review appeared first on Book Freak Revelations.

Huge thanks to Tara Frejas for letting me be a part of the blog tour she’s hosting, and for providing an e-Galley of this book. This did not, in any way, affect my overall opinion of the book and/or the story.

Waiting in The Wings, up to this very day, is one of my most favorite #romanceclass books that I’ve ever had the chance to read. It’s light, heartwarmingly conservative, filled with bits and pieces of Filipino Theatrical Culture, and the message that it exudes to its readers is not just positive, but it’s also seemingly moving. And one of the reasons why I continuously love and support the book / series is because of my endless love for its characters. Today, I’d love to share with you all how much I adore one of the characters from Waiting in The Wings, Pio Alvez, through my review of his spinoff, Like Nobody’s Watching.

I’ve been anticipating Pio’s story ever since I turned the last page of Waiting in The Wings. I’ve had such high expectations, seeing that I absolutely adored Erin and Ramon’s story, and the author, Tara Frejas, along with Pio, and his cast of new characters, most definitely did not disappoint. Readers were given a fresh, new story that’s perfect, not just for fans of its forerunner, but also for those who’s in the market for light, yet meaningful stories. It’s also extremely fast-paced, and those who are looking for the kind of one-sitter stories will find delight in Like Nobody’s Watching.

Pio and Audrey’s story focused on conservative themes such as close-family ties, and the importance of trust and faith in relationships, and I can’t even express how much I appreciated this because I feel like this is an underrated topic, especially in books. Filipinos are naturally close to their families, and I love seeing this Pinoy trait on print. Both Pio and Audrey came from such sweet families, and to see just how much they value them is a wonderful thing altogether. I can’t help but feel elated to know that readers from all over the world can develop this uniquely Filipino trait just by reading this book. And being true to your partner and being faithful in all forms is always a great trait to have, whether you be Filipino, American, or whatever. I loved this book mainly because of these concepts.

With regards to individual character traits, I think it suffice to say that Pio Alvez and Audrey Alonzo are tremendous people who works great both as individuals and as a pair. Pio’s your not-so-average boy-next-door actor who’s as passionate as he is flirty *winks* and he has found his equal in Audrey, a woman of substance that’s been wronged by a guy she dated for 10 years, and in trying to move on, found herself in the process. Their chemistry is undeniable, and it has been so long since I last encountered characters that seemed so destined for one another, I can’t help but feel honored to have read their story.

“As expected, I was delighted to have read Pio and Audrey’s captivating story. It’s a fast-paced spin-off that is written beautifully with characters that were all charming in their own ways, a trope that’s a well-known favorite for romance lovers, and a twist that will tug on everyone’s heartstrings. It pays great tribute to the undying relevance of close family ties, and the importance of being faithful. I had an amazing journey with Pio and Audrey, and I’m pretty sure other readers will too. Everyone deserves to read a heartfelt story at least once in this lifetime. Let Pio and Audrey’s story be that story for you.”

This was an absolutely delightful story with one of my favorite tropes—fake relationship! I was hooked from the start, when Pio pretends to be Audrey’s date after he sees some drunk men following her. She’s crying because her boyfriend of ten years cheated on her. She’s upset and it doesn’t click who he is—a fairly well-known actor. She just thinks he’s a doppelgänger. A month(?) later, they meet again when Pio is a client for her media firm. She’s embarrassed when she realises it WAS him she was crying to, and he catches her crying yet again over her ex, who it turns out is also her coworker. They start a pretend relationship partly so she can save face when her ex brings the woman he dumped her for to a work party. But Pio is so obviously smitten and they have wonderful chemistry.

I loved that Audrey was a few years older than Pio and despite her relationship woes, that she was confident in her work. He’s attracted to this competence and thinks she’s beautiful. Pio was such a refreshing male protagonist as well—such a softy. So in touch with his feelings. So willing to be vulnerable. I adored him!

Only knocking the rating down juuuust a bit because I wanted the ending to be a bit more... resolved? It’s definitely a happy ending, but it also acknowledges that Audrey was in a long-term relationship and she’s just putting herself out there again and willing to give their fake relationship a real shot. I think that was realistic, but I also felt like Pio’s feelings were a bit stronger. But overall I loved this!

This book holds a special place in my heart. Of all the #romanceclass books I’ve read, this one has got to be my favorite. Tbh, I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. I love the fake relationship trope in fanfiction (STONY FOREVER) but in fiction…?

As it turns out…I loved it. Or maybe it’s just the way Tara Frejas did it? I would have to read more of the trope in fiction to determine the answer to that – which, hey, isn’t exactly a hardship, lol.

"So are you Team Ramon or Team Pio?"
"Do I have to pick? I like them both."

I remember this discussion with other friends as we talked about Waiting in the Wings, the first book where Pio Alvez first appeared. At this time, we knew that Tara was starting Pio's book, and after I decided that I don't really belong to any team (why choose one when you can have them both, right), I was looking forward to what Pio will do to my feelings.

Pio Alvez is in a rut, sort of. After not getting the girl and his seemingly declining showbiz career, he's not quite sure what to do. Except that he knows he had to help this girl who walks by him in tears on the night of his birthday party. This girl, Audrey, is a no-nonsense woman who knows what she wants in practically every aspect of her life, except in love after her 10-year relationship leaves her heart in pieces. When they meet again after that night, and Pio realizes how much he likes being in Audrey's company, he finds it hard to say no when she asks him to be her pretend boyfriend. He pretends to be someone else all the time for his job, after all - how hard could this be?

I love everything Tara writes so it was very easy for me to dive into this world and get lost in the world. Tara's writing is so accessible that it's almost like her author self disappears and the characters become real people in front of you. Reading Like Nobody's Watching feels like I could actually see and hear the story unfold in front of me (it helps that the guy on the cover is a friend who voiced Pio for a previous #romanceclass live reading!). I liked Pio in Waiting in the Wings, but I LOVED him here. His character had depth and history that was made with care, so much that it's hard not to just love him. Audrey is the kind of woman that you'd aspire to be, but also you'd relate to her because that one great heartbreak is the kind we're all familiar with. Together on page, their story was just a real delight to read that you can't help but root for them all the way.

And yet, the story doesn't dwell so much on just their (fake) relationship, but also on the people that mattered to them. I personally loved the scenes Pio and Audrey had with their own families - they were heartwarming and SO real. Tara also doesn't gloss over how different people heal from their own heartbreak and grounds the conclusion of the story in reality that people who experienced the same thing would definitely appreciate.

I loved this, and it's been so long since I finished a book with a silly smile on my face. But hey, maybe that's the Pio Alvez effect? ;)

P.S. Don't miss the epilogue, okay. :)

She was just supposed to be another woman who passed by him one night while he was nursing a bottle of Stella Artois. But Pio Alvez saw the tears running down from her eyes, and two thugs following her. He had to act fast, he had to intervene…. he just had to.

Audrey Alonzo got her heart broken by her boyfriend of 10 years. Moving on from a heartbreak should have been easy, but working with her ex on a daily basis proved it to be quite difficult. Until she met Pio Alvez, again. Could this gorgeous celebrity help her recover from her heartache?

Love love love this dreamboat named Pio Alvez.. Well, actually, I loved the model on the cover of the book first. (Got a crush on this kiddie show host Fred Lo since I met him 3 years ago, shhh!) So it wasn’t difficult to imagine him as Pio Alvez in this romantic love story by Tara Frejas. I’ve heard good reviews about the first book, Waiting in the Wings, which I would love to read sometime soon.

Pio is a guy worth rooting for. Romantic, attentive, caring, understanding, dependable, and most especially, family oriented. I’m all for a guy who loves, prioritizes and respects family above everything else. Because it means that’s how he values other relationships, too. Audrey is lucky to have found a guy like him, who is even willing to pretend as her new boyfriend. Having a loving family is definitely a big bonus too!

Everything about this book fascinates me. The theater life, production, showbiz relations, meeting the parents on a birthday party, those sweet, sensual, sexy nights… Those easy and quirky banters between the characters. And all the feels and wonderful emotions it gave me. Loved Tara Frejas writing, concise, realistic, affectionate and sure made me feel like a teen again.

After reading Waiting in the Wings, the first novel that I read from Tara Frejas, I couldn't wait for Pio Alvez's happily ever after story. Finally!

There is so much to be cherished with Pio because he is such a sweet and caring guy. Honestly, I'm not a fan of him from Waiting in the Wings but I'm truly grateful that Tara wrote a story about him. He is more than the pretty and popular face on-screen and on-stage. He is one type of guy that you want to be fall in love, over and over again. I have so much respect with Audrey and I must say that I can relate so much on with the pain and disappointment that she has been through. At some point, I can see myself on her. Risking everything from her family to the work she wants for her life to dreams that she set aside, Audrey is such an amazing woman.

I giggled and cried with this romance novel that is more than it's beautiful and fantastic cover. My heart and soul are both touched by Pio and Audrey! Tara, I want to hug you right now because you wrote a very compelling story from a heartbreak to finding a new love that also incorporates the close family tight of Filipinos. Well done! The ARC is not enough, I need to have my own soft copy of Like Nobody's Watching really soon!

It's been a long, long while since I wrote a book review so please forgive me for any ineloquent or incoherent moments in my review.

I enjoyed Waiting in the Wings, and while I didn't think it was possible given that I am #TeamMonfigs, I might have actually enjoyed Like Nobody's Watching even more.

I am reluctant to mention specific plot points because SPOILERS so I will focus more on the characters and maybe a few vague things about the plot.

PIO
Pio is a sweetheart. He is THE definition of a nice guy. I don't know if it's because I'm several years older than him (I'm older than Audrey, haha) but he's such a sweet little thing that whenever something went wrong, I wanted to hug him.

AUDREY
What can I say? I love take-charge heroines and Audrey is definitely one of them. She has vulnerable moments too, so you don't end up thinking, "Oh, she's too perfect."

PIO'S FAMILY
I loved Pio's mom. She might be one of my most favorite #romanceclass moms ever. I liked Pio's brothers a lot too. There were a few times while reading when I would be reminded of my husband and his brothers. My husband is the eldest and there's a little bit of Kuya Gani in him, and their bunso has a little bit of Pio in him too.

THE ROMANCE
I love fake-dating stories and I enjoyed how Pio and Audrey's story played out. There was a part of the ending that I wasn't expecting but definitely liked.

In conclusion, you should read this book, especially if you enjoy stories about:
1. fake dating
2. younger man - older woman
3. celebrity - non-celebrity couples
4. moving on
5. bacon sandwich ;)

I have to admit that I beta read this book, and reread it again when the book was finally released.

There is a reason why I love Pio Alvez so much. In Tara's first #teatrofic, Waiting In the Wings (another must read!), Pio was the second lead you know you couldn't root for--but I did anyway. In this book he was given the chance to shine as the romantic lead/puppy we all need.

His enthusiastic, flirty and ultimately kind actions toward the main character Audrey make it hard not to fall in love with him. But I loved the contrasts between Pio and Audrey, how was gentle and kind with her and how she was resistant to his kindness at first, but then gave in. The 'switching' of their dynamic later was totally in character, and I love how Tara managed not to go too dramatic into it.

I love both Audrey and Pio's personal journeys to navigate their lives and their own careers--Audrey slowly rediscovering the 'ligaya' back into her life and Pio finally getting that foothold on the industry that he lost.

And can I say how happy I was when she promises that these two amazing characters will come back? Yes please.

A few months ago, I read Waiting in the Wings and got introduced to Pio Alvez's character. Upon finishing the book, I immediately thought: "I hope Pio gets a story and finds a happy ending too."

I was not disappointed at all by Like Nobody's Watching. There were a lot of things I loved about it: Pio and Audrey's banter, the author's take on my favorite trope, how it's not just focused on the romance budding between the MCs but there were also other aspects as well like family, career and making adult decisions, the numerous shoutouts to Baguio (which is one of my favorite places ever)... The list goes on. Now, I can't help but want more of Pio and Audrey. (But mostly Pio loljk. Hehe. He's such a dream/y guy eh!)

Do yourselves a favor and pick up Waiting in the Wings then read Like Nobody's Watching right after. Once you're done, check out the other #romanceclass titles available. You'll be glad you did, I pinkie swear. ;)

This is my first book after a while so that makes it so special for me. Pio is my 3rd favorite #romanceclass LI! He is such a child, I love him so much! Audrey, on the other hand, is my Queen. She is strong and independent and she definitely slays! (also, her nickname and my name sounds similar lol) I am a reader who values characterizations and character development more than anything in a story and I definitely fell in love with how Pio and Audrey’s characters were made, thus, me loving the book so much. This review is going nowhere but yeah, I love this book so so much! Thank you, Tara!

“You’re the heroine of this story, remember that.”

I loved Waiting in the Wings so when I heard that Pio will be getting his own book. I couldn’t be more excited for it!

Like Nobody’s Watching is steamier than Waiting with its mature content. The chemistry between the two characters is undeniably good even though they started with having a fake relationship.

Book is written in alternating point of views. With Pio’s POV, we get to see that not only he is a perfect gentleman but also he has a very dirty and flirty mind. With Aubrey’s POV, she is trying to be strong in midst of having broken up with someone.

What I love about this book other than the romance is that the characters work in the showbiz industry and anything that has do to with that industry I want to read it.

This review probably doesn’t justify how good the book is so just read it.

Special shout out to Viv! Best sister ever!

Thank you Tara for the ARC!

Five amazing, smoldering and kilig stars! Tara is one of the few authors who can make me feel kilig (giddy) even when my reality feels like shit. Thank you for gifting us Pio and Audrey. And I will hold on to your word that there will be more 💜

I’ll be back with a much better and coherent review. I promise ☺️

After reading Waiting in the Wings, nobody would’ve known much about Pio Alvez and this book helped us know him more and what his story is about. I did not expect Pio’s story to be that deep. Once you get to finish each chapter you get to know more about Audrey and Pio more and more and you just wish it will never end.

One thing I did not expect from this book is the heat because I had this image of Pio as a goody two shoes boy but was I proven wrong.

Thank you Tara for writing this!

P.S. I read this while confined in the hospital. And made this review after getting discharged. I’m still a bit woozy.

Pio is a real boy. That much was apparent from the first page. Frejas knows this boy body, heart and soul, making it impossible for me to not love him. Audrey was after my heart too, and I appreciated her journey to her HEA, both on her own and with Pio, that I finished the book knowing I will be rooting for this adorable couple long beyond the last page.

You'll fall in love with Pio Alvez. And I fell in love with him, his face (YES VERY TRUE haha), his personality, his love for his mother and family, and his love for Audrey. I admire Audrey for being brave and for being herself. I love them and I want more Aji and Pyo.

Pio's book definitely made me like him more than in Waiting in the Wings lol. Him and Audrey had a fun relationship, yes it was fake dating but the chemistry was certainly not fake. Lots of fun banter and i think by now everyone should know how much i adore banter so A+

Also Audrey's ex Luigi got told off by both Audrey and Pio and yesss he so had that coming!

Also also hello heat level steamy in this lol.

Now i had a little moment of going hmmm not sure about this gesture Pio did here with her walls because i sort of felt that on the one hand nice gesture for Audrey but on the otherrr hand a little intrusive maybe? I mean idk how i'd feel about someone i was fake dating , even if i liked them, even iiif i trusted enough to leave them in my apartment, decorating my wall while i was away? Even as it was a sweet gesture and surprise gift. idk maybe i'm just weird that way.

even so i don't think that detracted from me liking Pio, it just gave me a bit of pause, i'll admit. I will say that i really liked the epilogue because to me not every time a romance *has* to have everyone in the relationship end with say the i love yous. because i've been in that situation, literally. Where my then bf said it after some months and i was like uhhh im not sure im ready to say it back? so i completelyyy relate to Audrey there. That felt really authentic to me.

If I tell you I was just smiling so hard while reading this book, will you believe me? This book is so perfect and honestly everything I need right now.

Originally got interested in this because the author posted a social media AU on twitter and I thought huh it’s from a book and got it on Kindle almost immediately. I’m glad I did.

Audrey was trying to move on from a sudden breakup after her boyfriend cheated on her. Yet it was hard, as he was also her boss and the owner of the company she works for. Feeling devastated, she went out one night, only to be followed by suspicious men. She was lucky to be rescued by a handsome stranger. She poured her emotions out by telling him her miserable story, thinking their meeting was a one-time thing, but she was wrong. A few days later, she found out she would be working with him, and he was no other than the famous actor, Pio.

If you have read Waiting in the Wings, this is the next book after that. In that book, Pio is portrayed as a hopeless romantic who gets dumped. Readers who finished it wanted to dive deeper into Pio’s story, and Like Nobody’s Watching is the perfect redemption arc for his love life.

This story shows Pio experiencing insta-love and unrequited love, yet it provides depth to his character as Tara writes a moving backstory for him, and the same goes for Audrey. It allows readers to understand what shaped them in terms of affection and relationships, giving a glimpse into why they respond to love the way they do.

Their journey does not merely focus on romance. It also gives us scenarios like limited job opportunities, pressure from management, and conflicts that arise from an office romance, which I believe highlight the importance of dealing with career choices that many readers can relate to.

I was not supposed to read romance this month, but I randomly picked up Tara’s book. This novel is a relatively quick read with less complicated situations, and it feels like watching a heartfelt love story from GMA Films or Star Cinema. Did I mention it has spice? Yes, it does—but written in a very intimate and tasteful way. It’s worth reading if you want a palate cleanser after a heavy romance novel.
