"When a former fling pops up among the matches for one of her favorite clients, Blanche gamely messages him on her behalf."

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. When I read the premise for Switch and Bait I was immediately hooked, it's about a woman who runs other women's online dating profiles to help them find dates. While helping a client, she finds out that the woman matches with a guy she used to have a thing with, and is conflicted about what to do.
What I enjoyed about this novel was the writing style and the setting. Shultz has a writing style that is super easy and quick to read, but there was something about it that also kept the characters distant. I also enjoyed the setting of the novel. It takes place in D.C. and talks a bit about dating people with different political views than our own.
Henry and Blanche have an interesting relationship. There's def some chemistry there, but their political views and timing are keeping them apart. Overall I didn't feel the romance very much. Even though I enjoyed the writing style, there was something about the story that distanced me from the characters, so I didn't care about them as much as I wanted to and I wasn't super invested in their relationship.
My biggest pet peeve in the story is that Blanche smokes cigarettes. It's only a small part of the story, but it's continuously mentioned throughout. Smoking is one thing I can't get over, and I felt like the book made it add to her "cool" personality.
Before diving into this novel, I knew I was going to enjoy it because of the fake dating trope. April is going home for a family reunion, but doesn't want to deal with her family trying to set her up with anyone, so she hires Theo to be her fake boyfriend for the weekend.
Overall this was a funny, light hearted book. I enjoyed the characters, their chemistry seemed believable, and the speed of their relationship also seemed believable. I loved the setting of the book, at April's family reunion, where there's plenty of family stuff going on.
I definitely think the first half of the book was way better than the second half. There were some things that happened that felt really unbelievable, and would not have occurred with two people that only knew each other for two or three days. Because of the events that did not fit in with the rest of the story, I had to lower my rating.
