Not entirely sure what happened in this volume. The narrative was all over the place with little explanation and a lot of dialogue and scenes were repeated.

The art is LOVELY. The story is a bit hard to follow though. Hoping volume 2 is a bit easier to understand where and what is going on.

Ultimately I didn't really like this first volume. The story seems to be about Kokone, a girl whose father seems wrapped up in some unsavory/illegal/unfortunate business involving a tablet, which also seems wrapped up in her mom's death several years ago. Kokone herself lives an alternate life in a dreamworld, Heartland, which seems to mirror the events of the real world, but with a fantasy, steampunk-y twist. Magic in Heartland seems banned, but the princess of the realm, Ancien, can use it. Magic seems to consist of...computer programming? It's done on a tablet-like device, and makes robots move on their own, rather than requiring a small army of people to manually move. Ancien seems to come with baggage, a curse that disaster will befall Heartland because Ancien uses magic.

That's as far as I can grasp. The story itself seems confusing, but I do see the obvious parallels between the real world events and the dreamworld events. I also can't figure out if Kokone is actually physically a part of Heartland, or if it's all just an elaborate daydream construct. Things happen, but there's several places where no dialogue is given and you're instead meant to infer what's happening from the images on the panels. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I'm not sure I'll continue with this series. It's an interesting idea (and I do love naps), but ultimately it wasn't compelling enough (or coherent enough) for me to really devote more time to it.

This whole first volume just felt really awkward, like it was just setting things up. The way it flips back and forth is a little confusing, and the way that part of the story is just...word-for-word (and almost image-for-image) repeated is a baffling storytelling choice. I can't say I hate it yet, because I don't *really* feel like I've seen enough of the story to decide or not, but as my two stars show, I'm not loving the way this story is being told.

Curious enough to read more, but probably only one more volume, unless the story straightens itself up at least a bit--it would be nice to learn what the connection between the two worlds actually is, at least.

I would give this a four star as i love the story as a whole, but if I had not seen the movie before reading this manga I wouldn't really understand what was going on. So i would reccomend if you were intriguied by this title watch the movie first! Then maybe read the manga if you want to enjoy the world again. For once it seems like the movie is actually better then the book buuut that won't stop me from trying to have this manga in my collection :>

Good premise but the story moved so fast with no dialogue - it felt like whole scenes just flew by with no emotional pull and sometimes no relevance. This is an manga adaptation of an anime by the same name and it feels like they just copied scenes without actually adapting it to a graphic novel.

3.5 stars. It was a little bit confusing. There were also parts that repeated, and I wasn’t sure if they were supposed to or if my copy is just messed up. I’m gonna try and check into it the next time I’m at the bookstore.

Overall, I like the idea of Napping Princess and the characters were enjoyable, but I found myself a bit confused while reading volume 1. I’m interested to see how Kenji Kamiyama concludes the story in volume 2!

Volume 1 has really beautiful artwork and storyline about a girl living in two different worlds that almost relate to each other. Although it has the first three chapters, it does give out solid information about what goes on in both worlds.

This first volume is a bit confusing as it repeats scenes and doesn't really give much background or explanations but its interesting enough to make me want to keep reading so I am giving it 4 stars. Hopefully after the next volume I have a bit more to say!

This is a two-volume set. The story is a 2 at best -- it is simultaneously incomprehensible and trite. I upped the score to 3 because I really liked some of the art.

I am not sure how I feel about this at all. It feels like there is a lot more to the story but it is also a lot of content in this volume. It feels almost confusing. I am finding it hard to connect to the characters. It seemed very fast paced, but also very slow. The artwork isnt bad but I am not sure about the story. Normally in this case I would give the second volume a chance, however we do not have volume 2 in my library system so I will be giving up on it.
