Operation: Girl Next Door

Rate this book
Trevor Myers knows how to make it big in the business world: a charming smile, connections, and balls-to-the-wall fearlessness. The master of all three, a partnership with his firm is all but in the bag. That is, until his boss dangles it over him and his coworker like a prize on a game show. Trevor will do whatever it takes to lock in what is rightfully his, even if that means calling in a doozy of a favor from his best friend that crosses bro code lines.

Piper Bradley is on the precipice of making a career-altering decision. Agonizing over impending change and letting go, Piper decides a weekend trip to clear her head is just what she needs to be sure of her decision. Before she can so much as dig out sandals and sunscreen for some much-needed fun in the sun, her brother calls in a favor from his best friend…Trevor Myers.

Assumptions. Surprises. A battle of wills.

…and so begins the battle between Trevor’s playboy ways and the elemental pull of the girl next door.

Mini Review at Of Pens and Pages.

Operation: Girl Next Door was my favorite novella in this batch! A fake relationship story between Piper Bradley and her childhood crush and her brother’s best friend, Trevor Myers, this story was sweet, steamy, and had a little angst on the side.

Trevor Myers knows he’s going to become the next partner in their ad agency, but for some reason, his boss thinks it’s better to invite the other potential candidates on an out-of-town trip with their significant others. Unfortunately for Trevor, only candidates who actually have a significant other can go. He’ll do anything to get the job, and if it means pretending to be in a committed relationship, then so be it. He’ll just call in the favor from his best friend Ryden when he brought his little sister Piper to the prom back in high school. She’s the perfect partner to bring on the outing—the ideal girl next door.

Piper Bradley needs a little break from making the new design for her dancewear line and when Ryden calls her to tell her about Trevor’s situation, she decides to go along with it, against her better judgment. Now she has to pretend to be a different person just so Trevor could get his partnership.

Trevor was a bit of a d*ck at the start of the novella, but Piper was quick to call him out on it. She doesn’t let him treat her the way he treats other women, and because she tells him all the time, Trevor feels ashamed of his previous actions. Because of their history, it was easy to see the affection between them. I loved watching them pine over each other.

If you loved The Contract by Melanie Moreland, you’ll enjoy Operation: Girl Next Door.

Tropes: Fake Relationship, Brother’s Best Friend
POV: Third Person, Dual POV

Operation: The Girl Next Door , is Hagen’s addition to the Imperfect Love Kindle World. It’s hard to describe this fun novella, but it is a barrel of laughs and drama. See both the heroine and the hero have known each other for years and known each other is the perfect person for them. However they haven’t seen each other in number of years because Trevor the hero didn’t know how to deal with the intense feelings he had for Piper. His best friend’s little sister who he took to prom as a favour and instead found himself wanting the girl next door. Think She’s All That scenario, Piper the shy artistic teen girl and Trevor a big college player. An odd match but opposites attract and you could say this is a second chance as neither knew what to do then .
Fast forward to the present and Trevor is now a blunt advertising executive who is one step away from making partner. The only thing is he needs a girl fast. As his boss expects his new partner to be happily committed not just to his work. Fact is Trevor is a bit of player so he makes a fast move to protect his chances and throws Piper in the lion’s den without her knowledge.
It doesn’t matter to him what he has done. Even thought there are people’s chances at play and the fact that he is using Piper. Piper isn’t the same girl he took to Prom. Fact is she isn’t shy girl he took to prom. She is all grown up and isn’t what he is expecting to be . She is the girl next door but she is career minded and knows her boundaries when it comes to work. She about to hit the big time with her business, but she is scared of failure.
So a weekend away seems a good idea even if wasn’t what she planed. Still though she gets to clear mind and take a break. Though I don’t know if she ready for what Trevor has thrown into .
Throwing two people at pinnacle points of their respective careers together is genius and I love the blunt Trevor and the sassy Piper. I loved they had a second chance in this fast past moving novella. Time may of past but feelings never die even though they may of caused a problem or too. Hagen knows how to get straight to the point and I love when the characters know what they want and go for it.
The only thing is I wished we got that prom scene as it left an impression on both of them it seems. It defined the novella as otherwise they wouldn’t have these feeling simmering and Trevor wouldn’t have pulled her name out of thin air.

Operation: Girl Next Door was a really good friends to lovers, friend’s sister romance that reminds us that sometimes our eyes need to be opened to what always was there in front of you as well as looking at yourself with a new appreciation of who you are deep down inside. Again this is a fairly quick read and it was an enjoyable one, even though there may have been a couple of times where I wanted to bash both Trevor and Piper over their heads for them acting stupid. I would have honestly liked an even longer book; I didn’t want it to end. This is one I plan on reading again!

Favor = Friend + Girl Next Door equates to fireworks. Operation: Girl Next Door is friends to lovers meets girl next door romance. Piper was the girl too shy to find a date for her high school prom. Trevor was the boy that came to her rescue. Years later when he needs a favor will she step up to the plate? Casey Hagen always doles out heartwarming fun with no regrets guaranteed.

rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents. I enjoyed this book...witty, sexy and in your face. we meet Trevor, sexy playboy, who is one of four on line to make partner. he has spent the last 4 yrs schoomzing clients and has brought in alot of dough for the company. the only thing that stands on his way....a woman...or lack thereof. he won't be considered bc of his bachelorhood and at the spur of the moment, he tells his boss he has a gf...Piper. now only to convince her. we meet Piper, dance wear designer and owner, is flabbergasted when her big brother calls in a favour...to aid Trevor...her school crush! reluctantly she agrees. when Trevor goes to pick up Piper he is shocked at where she lives and more shocked to find that the woman he had been oogling is Piper herself...what has he gotten himself into. Piper can't believe Trevor and the made up BS about her he conjured up...not the same Trevor she knew as a kid and took her to prom. at the retreat, all kinds of firsts happen...their first kiss, first fight, first set of lies. all.is going well except Trevors rival Rachel has ir on for him...you know being a past hookup and all. a Newlywed game gone wrong leads to another first...a night of passion. but will it last if and when the truth is revealed? will Trevor reveal his true feelings or will.he crash and burn? will piper be able to get out of a sticky situation?

Operation Girl Next Door is a stand-alone, contemporary romance. Trevor is up for a big promotion at his job and will do anything to get it, including getting his best friend’s little sister to act as his girlfriend. Piper agrees, if anything to get some dream time with her high school crush. Trevor and Piper soon are dancing a fine line between past and present, reality and lie, but when the weekend is up, will anyone win?

This book was really enjoyable and I loved the whole debacle with what’s a lie or what’s real. Trevor and Piper had some true chemistry, created all the way back in high school, but I loved that the lives they were trying to live kept getting in the way of their happiness now. Trevor was bold in that he went after what he wanted with any means necessary, but he held his softer and vulnerable side close. He didn’t let anyone in. Piper had confidence when she had her mask on, but she had her own inner demons she needed to battle. I loved that both characters were constantly faced with reminders of who they were in high school with who they’ve become now and I loved that they couldn’t deny their connection. This was a sweet romance with redemption, passion, forgiveness, and love!

What a fun and delightful romance! Trevor Myers has done whatever it takes to make partner in the advertising firm. His plans for an NFL career were blown when he was injured, but he has all the perks now, woman, cars, an expensive home…anything that money can buy. He has worked his tail off for this promotion only to be told by the boss that he is looking for a partner who is settled, someone who has plans for marriage and a family. That is so not Trevor. When he is invited to a couples’ event at the boss’ home, he borrows his best friend’s younger sister, Piper Bradley. Years ago, he escorted Piper to her prom and based on the Trevor she remembers she agrees to help him with the deception. Piper is no longer the shy girl she was in high school, but owns her own dance costume company and has succeeded beyond her wildest dreams. Things get complicated as they try to keep their stories straight as they deal with couples kayaking and playing the Newlywed Game. Will they be able to keep up the “act” until Trevor wins his promotion? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)

3 1/2 stars!

Okay, this was a sweet, light, romantic read for sure! I was really pleasantly surprised by this story. It's a quick read and sure to give you the smiles :)

I'm not one for 'my bestfriend's sister trope' but something about this story caught my attention and I figured, why not? I'm so glad I did. You could definitely feel the chemistry and attraction between these two and the bit of angst and conflict that was thrown in was just right. There's lots of laughs and drama to keep you quite entertained. This is not an erotica story if that's what you're looking for, there is a steamy scene near the end, written pretty good (could use some improvement) but that's about it. It worked well in this story though.

There are some serious weird typo's in the story that keep occuring, it was a bit annoying and should have been caught especially considering how short the story is. Still, I was able to figure it out and it didn't derail too much from the story.

If you're looking for a story that will get your heart palpitating, wondering if these two are going to work out, dive right on in!

Friends to Lovers

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC. I am new to Casey Hagen and I think I have found another wonderful author to read.

Operation Girl Next Door was a good friend to lovers book. This is a second chance romance. Trevor and Piper have known each other since she was six. He is her brothers best friend. Trevor has always had feelings for Piper just ever acted upon them. Trevor is in his prime and about to make partner when his boss discloses it is a couples gathering and to be partner you had to be coupled up. He blurts out the first name he can think of and it is Piper.

When Trevor sees Piper again she blows him away sparks fly but there is more in store for them then they realize.

With out giving to much away this book makes you see that sometimes you need to take a look at what has always been in front of you. This book is well written and full of chemistry.

What a fun book. Trevor is an ad man. He is up for a promotion but his boss thinks he needs to be in a relationship . Trevor is not a relationship type of guy.
Piper is running her own dance design business. She is struggling to decide how to grow the business.
Trevor calls in a favor from his BF. He wants to use Piper as his pretend fiance. Little did he know that Piper is no longer the kid sister of his friend that he took to the prom. She is all grown up and she makes his heart stop and has him thinking relationship.
Piper can't believe her luck. She is getting another chance at her childhood crush. Though this Trevor is not the man she loves.
As these two try to fool everyone, they are only fooling themselves. Sparks fly and things are said. Can Trevor get Piper back? Does he even care about his promotion if he can't have Piper?
I was given this book for an honest voluntary review.

Second chance romance, Best friends little sister, brothers best friend... I don't know how to categorize this book. But this novella is Phenomenal.

It started with a date to Prom. Trevor did a favor for his best friends sister. Both had feelings for one another but it never went any further. Now years later Trevor is in a pickle. He's up for promotion when his boss makes a couples getaway the last stop for determining who will get the position. In a haste, he blurts out Pipers name as being his girlfriend.

Does Piper still hold feelings for Trevor all these years later? What happens when Trevor sees Piper for the first time in years? She's not that naive, nerdy looking high schooler no more.

Grab your Kindle, some wine, and settle in for a sweet and sexy read from Casey Hagen. a

I love reading anthologys because I always find new authors to adore and I can honestly say that I'm a new Casey Hagen fan.

I love reading this type of book when a man think he's figured it out and here come the heroine to turn his world upside down. I just never seem to get tired of it 😉

This story had me smiling from the beginning to the end. I just loved how Piper "convinced" Trevor that his is more then what he shows to the world. I found her strength to be my favourite part of her character.

And easy 5* read for sure.

So glad I read this book. Casey Hagen is new to me but now I’m hooked. This is a book about a boy who had a secret crush on his best friends little sister and never acted on it and years later he needs her help and all those feelings come crashing down on him. Come to find out little sister has always had a crush on him too. Piper and Trevor have a lot to learn and their adventure will show them what they’ve been missing all these years. This is so well written, it’s funny, interesting, sad at times, and keeps you turning the pages. Loved it. I received an early copy to read and give my honest opinion. I highly recommend this book.

Imperfect Love was a quick read read and a lot of fun. I love that the main characters knew each other and had a history so when Trevor needed a favor to have a fake relationship, I thought it had a great potential to work! I also loved that both characters had issues they needed to work out and how the other person helped them see and overcome their personal hang-ups about themselves. Through it all they were accepting of each other regardless. That’s something you don’t see often in these books. Great chemistry and all around fun book that had me rooting for them!

Trevor and Piper's story is about the past colliding with the present and what a trainwreck that can be. As you read, you know that there is big trouble on the horizon and you hold your breath and hope for the best because Trevor and Piper are perfect together. Their time together at a professional retreat hosted by Trevor's boss sets up some fun and excitement with passion and emotional moments with some painful truths between these two. A really good story with great characters that find themselves in an interesting predicament while hoping for the ultimate outcome.

Trevor has one goal in mind: getting a partnership at the ad agency. When his boss throws him for a loop, he quickly has to come up with the perfect woman. Enter Piper. Piper never forgot her brother's best friend, Trevor. After all, he did take her to her prom. So when Trevor needs a favor, Piper agrees to help. Little did they know how things would turn out! This book was full of humor, surprise, and romance. I really enjoyed this story, and I highly recommend it!

Friends to lovers

It all started with a date to her prom. Piper has crushed/loved him all her life. Her brothers best friend. Trevor always had feelings for Piper but he got a little lost along the way. A sweet, sexy, fun story from Ms Hagen. Creative characters and a well woven story. A great read I highly recommend it!

Only my second book from this author and I've thoroughly enjoyed them both. Casey's characters are real with real emotions and insecurities. What looks perfect from the outside is just a facade. What I enjoyed about this novella was that no time was wasted on drawn out backgrounds but jumps straight into the heart of the story and just pulls you all the way along.

I liked Trevor the man liked to tease, “I welcome any opportunity to interact with your *** in any way possible.” Trevor is just a blunt man at times, “the answer is no, I didn’t. Did my hard ***k last night confuse you?” I loved this novella it was a fun read.

A great book by Casey Hagen

Hi my name is Trevor Myers.

Well let me tell you that I know how to make it big in the business world and put a seal on it too: all you need is a charming smile, outstanding connections, and well lets say the balls-to-the-wall fearlessness. I'm the master of all three. You will need a partnership with this firm but now this is almost in the bag. That is, well until his boss decides to dangle it over him, oh and three other coworkers. It's like a prize which you have to go on a stupid and pathetic game show.

Hi everyone my name is Piper Bradley.
I'm on the precipice of making a huge and scary career-altering decision to see if i should expand my dance-wear line. I'm totally agonising over the decision. So then I decide to take a trip to clear and focus on my decisions, maybe a different climate will change that. Suddenly all the plans I've made have only to be disturbed by have my very annoying brother hamper the plans when he suddenly calls me to return a favour for his best friend… the one and only Trevor Myers. After owing Trevor for escorting her to what was her senior prom years earlier. Piper then reluctantly agrees to pretend to be Trevor's girlfriend for the weekend.

Trevor wonders and expects a very grownup version of the one and only shy girl who was always keeping a sketchpad. Trevor never imagined this drop-dead, gorgeous woman. Piper. Piper finally manages to leave Trevor tongue tied. That's a first for him.

Piper decides it’s time to leave her long-simmering feelings behind.

Trevor struggles to fight the battle that are waged between his crazy playboy lifestyle. The option is the battle and the elemental pull of the feelings he holds for girl next door.

4+ Stars!

This was a super cute read with some true laugh-out-loud moments. Not perfect, but definitely entertaining. Trevor and Piper had great chemistry and banter that kept the story moving at a quick pace. Since there was history between the two, the insta-love was acceptable. Maybe not fully believable, but acceptable. This is my first story from Casey Hagen and I have to say that if this novella is any indication of the quality and style of her writing thus far, I will be seeking out more of her work. Overall, a quick, but highly entertaining story. Yep, definitely excited to read more of her work. (This is my voluntary and unbiased review of a complimentary copy of Operation: Girl Next Door via Hidden Gems.)

- Ended abruptly: felt like that the chapter was unfinished
- Should have had an epilogue
- Should have mentioned what happened to H's competition for the promotion (reaction to the news of h + H being together/ H getting the job)
