Audiobook: This was my first experience with Lynda Rees' work, and it was fun and exciting. I enjoyed this book, but I found that although the author portrays the female characters to be strong and independent overcoming great difficulties, the male characters seemed to be more one dimensional. Miranda Cameron's narration was fine, and her voice was pleasant. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

This book started in 1880 going forward.

Jessica's mother sold her to Everett in a MOC. He insisted
she attend boarding school x 1 year to learn to be a lady.
Their's was a loveless marriage. Everett & his California
business associates created an Alaskan Gold Rush (2 miners
"found"gold in Alaska & newspapers covered the discovery)
to rid Calif. of "riff raff." Everett succumbed to a heart attack
and possible cancer on the ship heading to Alaska. Logan,
a blond timber man, originally from Oregon, later became
the hero.

Positive aspects of the story.
^ Interesting characters.
^ Heroine proved she had business acumen.

Not so + aspects.
^ Too much time devoted to Everett, who would have been
better served in flashbacks.
^ Jess complained of dishonest Everett who helped create
this hoax, yet she reaped financial benefits from his actions.
^ Because of her mourning period, she & hero kept each
other at arm's length.
^ The little asides became annoying.

Gold Lust Conspiracy, my first read from author Lynda Rees. Well-written, enjoyable Alaskan Gold Rush Era novel set in Skagway, Alaska. Having taken an Alaskan cruise last summer, one of the stops being Skagway, the blurb caught my attention. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

This is a brilliant read! It pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention. The world building is detailed and imaginative. This novel has strong, well developed characters and an interesting story line that keeps you turning the pages. I recommend this novel and would read more novels by this author.

It's rare one gets to read an epic story like this. It reminds me of Gone With The Wind. It's an amazing story and intrigued me to learn more about Alaska and it's history.
