Up-and-Coming Leader Reveals the Key to a Life of Supernatural Possibility
Peter never set out to walk on water; he didn't attend a special seminar or school. He just wanted to be closer to Jesus. No matter the storm, no matter the danger, he saw only Jesus--and that's what got him out of the boat and into the impossible.
We all have storms and barriers in life. And, like Peter, we have a choice: stay in the safe, small places or pursue with reckless abandon the limitless heart of Jesus.
With fresh biblical insight and immediately practical application, author and teacher Jennifer Miskov paints a bigger and entirely more compelling vision of a life lived on the water. You'll discover the source of courageous faith and how to let go and take those first steps. The wind and the waves will come. But the One you're walking toward has calmed the storm, and he's waiting to do the impossible on your behalf. He's waiting for you to take a risk, to follow your heart--and to step out of the boat.
This book will change your life, if you let it. Miskov uses Peter's experience of walking on the water to encourage us to keep our eyes on Jesus, to grow closer to Him, yield our hearts, and take the risk of stepping out of the boat.
I don't think I have ever read a book where the author is so passionate to see us focused on Jesus. Miskov puts legs to her passion. She has included “activations,” suggestions at the end of each chapter, practical ideas to implement her teaching.
Some of her insightful teaching includes developing a secret place to spend time with Jesus. She writes about storms and how they give us the opportunity to know Jesus better. She shares how perseverance is required to get to what is greater on the other side. She shares many of her own experiences with honesty, revealing lessons learned. I really liked her comments about social media. She discovered that “life is too short to waste it looking down all the time.” (Loc. 991/2395)
Miskov reminds us that Jesus gave Peter the opportunity to change the world, as He does to us. As long as Peter remained focused on Jesus, he could do the impossible, as can we.
I highly recommend this book. Miskov's passion is contagious. This book will change your life, if you let it.
Food for thought: “All God wants from us is passion.” (Loc 2050/2395)
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Why I Choose This Book: I want my life to be one that is lived out of the bounds of normalcy because I serve an amazing and awe-inspiring God. It's so easy to get bogged down with every day, but I want to always remember that God can use me during my everyday moments when I am surrendered to Him. This book seemed like a good one to read as I work at following Him more and being more open to what He has in store for me.
What I Thought About This Book: This book was supposed to be read over a period of time, so even though I generally read through a book quickly, I made myself read it slowly and implement some of the suggestions the author made. I'm glad I did that and recommend that other readers take this approach, as well.
The author shares a lot of examples from her own life - both the good and the bad - and that helps the book come alive and easier to relate to. The book has a lot of good information and provides a lot of thoughts to mull over and ponder. It reminded me (once again) how important it is to sit back and spend focus time with God instead of always being distracted by life and especially technology. This is a lesson I've been working on learning for a while, and I've been making changes in my life, so reading this was quite timely.
Living a life totally dedicated to God isn't always easy, but it's worth it. I want to make sure my life reflects His will, and that I don't just do what I want. This book was about taking the next steps - stepping outside of the norm and being open to, actually seeking out, God working in our lives.
Conclusion: There were a few things in the book, or at least wordings, that I wasn't totally comfortable with. There was also one chapter about "following your heart" that I think could be misinterpreted very easily. Because of these things I hesitate to fully recommend it, although overall I greatly appreciated the message and agree with most of what she wrote.
Rating: I’m giving Walking On Water 4 out of 5 stars, and 8 out of 10

I am reviewing a copy of Walking On Water through Chosen Books and Netgalley:
In this book Jeninifer A Miskov talks about miracles, we are reminded that Peter never set out to walk on water, what he did do was set out to be closer to Jesus, despite the storm.
The author talks about moving to Redding California after getting her PH.D with the help of her mentor Heidi Baker but when she came she had no money. She talks about making it through that hard time.
In order for Peter to walk on water, and come to Jesus, the author reminds us that Peter had to completely surrender himself to God.
What about Jesus compelled Peter out of that boat, made him step out on that water, knowing he would be safe?
We are encouraged to regain focus through silence, to listen to what the Lord is telling us.
We are reminded too that it was not Jesus’es idea for Peter to step out on that water and walk to him, but it was Peter’s idea.
Walking on Water: Experiencing a Life of Miracles, Courageous Faith & Union with God by Jennifer A. Miskov is a combination of her own personal testimonies, Biblical stories, and activation steps focused on making you more aware of God's everyday miracles and helping you to step out in faith so He can present His miracles to you.
Using the story of Peter walking on water to go toward Jesus as the foundation of this book, Jennifer establishes that in order to move closer to God and have a closer union with Him, we have to step out in faith. We have to be willing to not only listen for God's calling in our life, but also pursue what we feel He has promised us, in order for Him to give us those gifts and everyday miracles that we desire.
Sharing testimonies from her own past, such as going to the airport without a ticket beforehand, Jennifer presents us with a multitude of examples as to how she personally has stepped out in faith time and time again, so we may get a better feel for how this might look in our own lives. She also give activation steps at the end of each chapter with questions, suggestions, and prayers centered upon letting go, focusing on Jesus, moving toward God, and several other practical steps to help us step into our place as His children.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I feel that overall, Jennifer has laid out an inspirational story and a wonderful foundation for anyone seeking to feel closer to God and increase their faith in His role in their everyday lives. However, parts of the book have a very repetitive nature and duplicate things already discussed in previous chapters. Reading through this book in a short time frame and trying to soak it all up, this could be bothersome and tiring. But, if you read it slowly (as intended) and break it up to, say, one chapter a week for 17 weeks, then the slight repetition could serve more as a review and reminder of what has already been covered and what progress has already been made. In this case, that could be a major asset - particularly for those of us that need a hint of familiarity to refresh our memory after dealing with the daily grind in the interim. Overall, 4/5 stars.
