Castle of Kings

Rate this book
Jake F*cking Castle
When he walks into a room, he owns it. He consumes my very breath and melts my delicate little panties. From the moment he set eyes on me, he decided I was his. No one – not even my brother, Nix – was going to tell him otherwise. It doesn’t matter that Nix is President of the Kings MC Club. Jake wants what he wants, and he’ll set out to get it, whatever the cost.
Jake may be an arrogant asshole, but there’s no denying the hold he has over me. His fierce, carnal need to make me his, and his alone, is a snare I can’t escape. And truth be told, I don’t want to.
But when my life becomes threatened, Jake Castle is the only man my brother trusts to protect me. He knows Jake will do anything to keep me safe.
Anything.

I HATED the hero (using the term loosely here) in this one.

I could have gotten past the fact he was the clubs resident whore. I could have gotten past that everytime the heroine didn't do what he wanted he retaliated by using an OW. But I just could not get past that he screwed the Prez's girlfriend! You DO NOT screw a brother over like that EVER. And he didn't even take responsibility for it. He didn't apologize until the heroine made him and then he blamed the OW because "she came on to him and he was drunk" WTF loser. The club members should have beaten his ass down and buried the body. *lol*

I loved this MC book! Liz and Jake have smokin HOT chemistry. I loved Jake's super alpha bad boy persona and Liz is a no nonsense kind of woman, who can smell bullsh*t a mile away. He's very protective of her. I loved how hard Jake has to work to get Liz. This book has raw passion, some sadness and an amazing storyline. If you love MC, hot as Hades alphas and strong opinionated heroines, then this is the book for you.

This was a book that I could NOT put down!! I haven't read many MC Books, but this one makes me want to read them endlessly! Everything I've read from Betty has been fantastic, and this one didn't disappoint.

Liz (Peach) is such a great character! She's a girl who grew up in and around the MC, and she isn't afraid to give people a piece of her mind. She is such a refreshing character! I love that she went and did her own thing, but still came back. And her brother, Nix, he is so special! I always love the men that run MC's, but Nix seems like so much more than that. He is such a great brother and a really great leader. The best thing about this MC is how everyone is family, they all step up to help each other. Then we had Jake come in the picture, Nix being protective of Liz over this was so amazing! Now Jake, he's the bad boy that every girl wants, and all Jake wants is his Peach. I mean the nickname alone, that makes your panties damn right?

There's the perfect amount of drama, action and romance in this book. It's everything I would want in an MC Book. Between the rivalries, the relationships and all of the characters I couldn't have asked for more! I can't wait to see where she takes this series!!

This is a wild, gritty, sexy and incredible ride with a hard man, a feisty woman and a MC family. This story will grab you and drag you along for the the ride! You feel the heat of the sexual tension but you find yourself immersed in the deep well of love between this man and woman and the ties that bind them not just to each other but to their MC family. So climb on and hold on tight because you are riding with the Kings!

Yep, I'm a Betty Shreffler addict. While I don't normally read MC genre books, this one was freakin awesome!!!! Jake freaking Castle is the man of my dreams. He commands the room and Liz knows to stay away from him.

Too bad her body doesn't get the hint!!!

I could not put this book down!!! I seriously read it in one day (very odd for an MC book), I basically stopped adulting to finish this book (good thing my husband fed the kids...oops). Liz and Jake were made for each other and the chemistry that they had was sizzling hot.

The story was phenomenal, the characters were well written, and the plot was explosive. I truly hope that this author keeps writing MC books as I can guarantee that I will be one-clicking these bad boys the day they release. Oh and I really, I mean really, want Nix's story...Just sayin.

R A T I N G: 2 stars to Castle of Kings ★ ★

Castle of Kings by Betty Shreffler brings you a bad boy MC romance that keeps you on your toes but not on your best side.

Nix inherited the legacy of the Kings MC club and has since been president. When his sister Liz (the female lead) ventures back home, Nix spends his time keeping her away from the roguish, cocky, philandering bad boy of the group, Jake Castle. So it becomes a game of chasing, lustful courtship, tension, drama, bad decisions and danger.

I really was traversing back and forth with this one, wondering whether to jump on this train or jump right off, while also contemplating where I stood with both of the starring characters and whether I was engaged enough to appreciate their choices. I soon understood that it wasn’t a matter of my being engaged or even taking a route of understanding because the characters were the source of the problem for me.

I concluded that parts were discouraging and the second half loosened the ties of interest because the plot was pulled down by countless unnecessary sex scenes without the much-needed character depth. Overall this story is a bit too short to fully enjoy, not developed enough to completely find value and the characters lacked some depth. Not a great read, but a decent MC romance.

Trigger Warning: Multiple sex scenes, mentions of drugs, alcohol and alcoholism. Violence, sexual assault and attempted rape.

--------------------------------------
W H A T - I - D I D - L I K E...

1) Although I questioned some the way the MC was run at times, I really liked the benevolent twist with the Kings - we have a brotherhood dedicated to good and aiding local law enforcement.

2) Really like Nix’s character - he’s very different to most MC Presidents and he very obviously has a strong moral compass and cares for Liz a lot.

3) The plot was interesting and kept me on my toes what with constant drama and tension.

--------------------------------------

W H A T - I - D I D N' T - L I K E/ - W A S - C O N F U S E D - A B O U T...

1) I was promised a strong-willed, take-no-poop, no nonsense heroine who wouldn’t take any nonsense lying down, but my she did spend a lot of time lying down…for an arrogant male lead she let seduce her at every turn. Although Liz ‘appears’ to comes across as somebody who won’t be disrespected, especially by a man, the reality is that she does let herself, pines more often than not and doesn’t have her wishes set in stone. Sex or seduction seemed to make an accepting apology for most anything. And only after, she remembered her mind enough to realign her priorities, but she’d be damned if she didn’t’ let it happen again.

2) Jake says - in regard to his ex , Angela - that what he felt for her was more than he usually would for a woman. Later, when the whole scandal with Jake, Nix and Angela comes to light, Jake mentions that he’d only slept with her once. Correct me if I’m wrong but if she was supposedly a one-night encounter then I really fail to see how developed affection for her or whether they really did have an actual relationship? This wasn’t the only instance where I was left muddled with events of the unfolding story.

3) Jake is the epitome of the chasee becomes the chaser…but only if he gets what he wants and everyone adheres to his needs.

4) I spent most of my time with this one wondering whether I actually liked the story and whether I actually liked the male lead. Overall this was an engaging plot, albeit overshadowed by too many sex scenes that flattened the story’s dynamism because every scene either seems to drown in sex and wanting sex, touching until sex is a must, or showcasing how arrogant Jake is. Oh, he surely has his softer moments, but they were few and far in between because we get it Jake, you’re not a nice guy. Another thing that was a little perplexing - Jake appears more affectionate from Liz’s POV, but more conceited from his own, which led me to question his character a lot.

5) Details about the story are not always given where details are necessary. It felt as if scenes were half-described and all in all the complete story felt unfinished and wrapped up too quickly to appreciate as a standalone.

6) I was taken aback at the lack of rule and discipline with the Kings Brotherhood. If you’re privy to MC romances, you’ll know that every MC is bound by a code, laws within laws, and any kind of wrongdoing is most likely rewarded with punishment… but the Kings just seemed to do and act of their own volition, irrespective of duty and loyalty - with two traitors and of course, Jake’s betrayal and rebellion.

7) Jake is too self-serving and disobedient as a character. He’s a mistake machine - really, he makes so many and he’s unapologetic about them. A character being comfortable and sure in themselves is one thing, but he borders past this into ‘I don’t care about anything’ territory. In any normal MC he would have been thrown out for his past mistake (the betrayal on Nix). Although I like Nix as a character he didn’t run the Kings like a tightly bound MC, with law and punishment, which I suppose is an admirable thing, but a Brotherhood like an MC does need in-placed boundaries because in this case they may just get away with killing each other. Maybe?

I'm trying to think about the best way to say this and not sound all crass but gonna just go for it!
Jake Castle makes me want to let the bad girl side out and pounce on him! He's the kind of bad boy every woman wants to have but none seem lucky enough to get! Liz meets him on her first day back home and sparks fly from the beginning!
Is there anything to this possible relationship? Is he the big skanky playboy her brother warned her about? ( Nix, sigh, just the thought of him distracts me!)
But back to Jake and Liz......is there more to this sexy, cocky total player than he shows the world? Is Liz brave enough to find out or does she have her eye on another?
This one had me from the very first page and it's a panty melting, total thrill from beginning to end!
My advice is don't read it at work, on the train or anywhere you can't fully enjoy it!

Castle of Kings by Betty Shreffler is a standalone, romance MC read.
Meet Jake F. Castle.
He´s a arrogant womanizer who exactly knows what he wants and how to get it. He uses women like paperplates. Use and trash.
Until Liz shows up. She´s Nix´ the Clubs Presidents sister and fresh from nursing school. She meets Jake at Nix´s bar and both have these crazy magnetic pull, but Liz doesn´t want to be a notch at his belt. Yes, bravo sister !!
Jake doesn´t understand what happens here, never ever did a woman say no to him.
I started reading Castle of Kings and was greatly entertained. I love Liz´s character so much. She´s a strong woman who knows exactly what she wants and what not. And that I loved very much.
The writing is great and I love the story and the words.
I give 5 stars. Thank you, Betty Shreffler !

This was an okay read. I wasn’t overly impressed by either Liz or Jake. Especially early on. Which didn’t help.

I was surprised they didn’t have a secure compound. Anyone could drive right up to the door. No security or prospect on watch. And the room where they conduct private conversations is a joke. I don’t know why they even bother to close the door.

Castle Of Kings is the first book in the Kings MC series and it was a good start to the series, I think if done well that this series will be one that I will really enjoy. Was it perfect? Not even close but it was a good base and start for this series.

I can’t even lie, Liz drove me insane I did not like her at all. She just rubbed me wrong from the start. For one you do not ever ease drop on a conversation about club business if you are not a member of that club, your brother being the President of the MC does not give you a free pass. That right there was one of the issues I had with her. Now was Jake a saint, not even close, did I want to punch him more than once, yes I did but he was very transparent on who he was, he didn’t play games like Liz did. Did he mess up more than once yep, but he owned up to his mistakes where Liz was always pointing the finger at Jake when she really never owned up to what she did herself.

Overall Castle Of Kings was a good start to the series and I would like to see how the series will progress in the future.

Great jealous/possessive Hero and liked the heroine as well. No cheating HEA. Except for one scene, would have loved this book. Maybe a re-read. ******spoiler****** Hero didn’t cheat technically as they weren’t together and hadn’t been together intimately. But he did have a nameless 0W at his home at one point when he didn’t think he was making any headway with the heroine. Hero thought she had date with OM, which she did but forgot to cancel. Heroine came over to his place and she interrupted before anything could happen. She saw this so he had to work for it some. OW wasn’t mentioned again or seen and nor did he attempt this again even when they weren’t together yet. Some good jealous scenes. There was also some ex OW drama, but Hero never acted in to her. Heroine handled that better than I would have. LOL! She was a pretty confident young lady for the most part.

The MC rules don’t seem to apply here. Deals behind the brothers backs, members sleeping with other members girls (not club whores but actual girlfriends) with essentially no repercussions. I don’t buy it. And also the H was a royal douchebag. They both used others to provoke reactions out of each other (I have no respect for people who do this) but Jake’s bullshit was waaaaaaay worse. There were so many sex scenes that after a while there was little room left for the story that was taking place around them. I was gonna give up around 70% but skimmed to the end. More sex scenes and a predictable ending.

I loved it! I don't know how Betty Shreffler does it, but her characters feel so real and dynamic that you can't help but fall in love with them. Every time I read one of her books I find it difficult to put it down, so as usual, I read this one in one sitting too. It's a great story which resonates with so many different meanings. It is sweet and romantic, intriguing and thrilling, and quite a read. I'd definitely recommend this book to all book lovers. I'm sure you'd love it.
After completing her studies, Liz is back. Her brother runs a bar and a MC club. His brothers are like family to her too. She sees that there are some new members as well. It appears that her brother wants her to settle down with one of them, anyone but Jake. Unfortunately, Jake hold all her attention. He is arrogant and cocky, clearly a bad boy, exactly what she wants. So when he shows interest in her it becomes very, very difficult for her to resist his charm.
I think Jake and Liz are perfect for each other as they compliment one another. Their personalities fit together perfectly. And that has made this story all the more fun to read. I enjoyed it a lot and hope that others do too.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

I really enjoyed Castle of kings I'm such a huge fan of Betty Shreffler I've read a few of her books that I absolutely loved this one was equally lovable the only thing I thought was need would addition to the ending but overall great story . When the couple first meet sparks fly but the heroine is warned that the hero is a bit of a player plus he has a quarrel with her brother from something Jake did in the past . Liked Liz she's tough , sweet , sassy , and can hold her own though she did frustrate me to the point were I rolled my eyes a couple of times but over all really liked her and the relationship she has with her brother . It took me some time to fall for Jake I really didn't understand some of his actions and there were times were I didn't like him at all but after the drama after drama he treated the heroine right after realizing his mistakes . The end did seem a bit abrupt I was hoping for more on the heroines brother and her best friend I'm hoping to see more from these characters .

Three and a half stars.

I enjoyed this, but there was a lot of stuff that seemed rushed, and/or half finished.
Jake is super arrogant! Not just regular arrogant.
Liz was brought up in the biker lifestyle, so she's a no mess lady, but Jake just melts her every time he's within distance of her.

A good, quick read for a rainy day!

Castle of Kings
By: Betty Shreffler
3.5 Stars

Nix has done everything to look after his younger sister Liz. Filling in as the ‘dad’ she never had. Ensuring she left the environment she was used to and get an education. She has now finished her nursing degree and is back looking for a job.

Nix is now the president of the Kings MC Club. There are new brothers in the club since Liz was here the last time. On her first night back at the club, she meets a couple of the new brothers.

Jake Castle is fighting tonight and has his eyes set on his prize. The prize can be anything, but Jake has seen already what he wants.

The thing with Jake and Nix, there is history there. Liz feels like she is missing out on a huge piece of the puzzle when she is warned to stay away from Jake.

I love a good M/C book!!! This one is a good read, just for me missed out on hitting a great M/C book. Without giving away the book, I personally would have loved for it to have gone in more detail about what the club was working on. More of the Club business and less of the guy meets girl, guy falls for girl part.

This was my first Betty Shreffler book and I suddenly see myself doing some binge reading. Jake is a great dominant alpha with some hidden secrets in his past and part of the Kings MC. He happens to fall for Liz, the sister of the President of the Kings, who is a wonderfully strong independent woman. The chemistry between Jake and Liz is off the charts and I would not recommend reading this book alone. The sex scenes are hot!!!! Betty Shreffler did a great job developing each character and the story line with some great twists and turns built in. Maybe because i had not read any of her books prior but I did feel I would have liked to know a bit more about Jake's background and a little more of the dynamic with her brother Nix.

This is a great read and I read it in one sitting at a swim meet (discreetly however) and would recommend for anyone looking for a hot MC romance. I received this book for free and this is an honest review

An intense MC romance, Castle of Kings has a way of pulling you in and refusing to let you go. This book is a standalone.

Liz returns home after being away at college. The night she comes back, she meets a few men, a few she likes, and few she shouldn't. Secretive Jake Castle captures Liz's attention- and the reader's attention- and won't back down. He's hardened, doesn't like to feel, and takes what he wants. He won't play games.

My heart was racing while I was reading Castle of Kings. The characters were hardened, but it just grasped on to me and refused to let go. I would have liked to hear a bit more about Jake's background, and how he came to be who he is today. Liz was a great heroine. She was tough, strong and independent. I hope to read more about this cast of characters.

This was an okay book. I'm a big lover of hot sexy books. I don't read any clean book either so that there shows a lot but I want a real story with my hot sexyness. Not 30% story and 70% sex. If this was a clean book then it would have been just a little novela that could have been read in around 30 minutes and not a few hours. I'm going to try the next one of the series and hopefully we have some story too. If not there is plenty other books out there.

This was meh. I was very tempted to DNF this at the 60% mark after one of the worst cases of insta-love was thrown in my face. Before that point I could tell that they clearly were just in lust with each other having never seen them have a normal conversation, but what did I expect from a guy who claims her as a prize for a fight having never spoken to her before. Anyway, what really made me mad at the insta-love is the author clearly knew because at the 60% mark they have some fun public sex, they confess their love for each other...and then she asks him what he does for a living. She just told this guy she loves him but didn't even know where he worked or what he did? If this doesn't show that the characters have no interest in each other out with what's in each other's pants then I don't know what would. The character doesn't bat an eyelid at the question she asked...like this was normal? UGGHH!!! It infuriated me beyond words.
But I was good. I took a day out from reading it and then I jumped back in after my rage had dissipated to read the last 40% - which was actually decent. Nothing to brag about but nowhere as egregious as the first half of the book, because their "romance" isn't the focus but rather the club.
Overall the book was bland, nothing to shout about. The writing wasn't bad and the characters didn't annoy me. But there was nothing brilliant about it. It just sat in mediocre land where I didn't love it or hate it which is never fun to read because at least if you hate something you can rant about it but this just left me feeling cold.

Once again, Betty Shreffler, does not let me down!!! Ms Shreffler is not a new author to me. She has written PNR, contemporary romance and now MC Romance and she ROCKS!!
I was able to connect with her character and story line from beginning to the end. Her lead characters are take charge characters that bump heads.
I was not able to put my book down!! You go girl!!
Jake is the VP of Castle Kings MC Club. He is an undercover cop working with the MC.
He is also an arrogant, panty melting womanizer that gets what her wants when he wants, take charge alpha male. and he wants Liz!!
Liz is the sister of the VP Nix. Nix has issues with Jake and does not trust him. She is sassy and speaks her mind! and does she ever!
Liz and Jake has a very strong chemistry from the first time they meet. But their past is in the way and their relationship can bring mayhem and danger to the club. Will Liz give in to Jake's dominate side? Will Nix accept Jake? Is Jake willing to risk his MC brothers and career?
All I can say is Wow!!!
This book has hot steamy, sexy MC romance with passion, drama, suspense and excitement. Come and experience their journey. Castle Kings is like dreaming with your eyes open. You just ant to crawl in and stay there!!!
Great Job, Ms Shreffler, I am looking forward to your next book.
I would recommend this book to all my fellow readers!!

Betty Shreffler has got me so hooked on her books. Every new book I read feeds my addiction and has me needing more. Castle of Kings was a shining example of what I love about her books. The writing is so entertaining and at such a good pace that I don't have time to get bored or lose interest.

Jake, the leading man, definitely had his full on jerk moments. For fans of books where your main guy starts off as an Alpha-hole then look no further. But his possessive, protective, dedication to his leading lady makes it all worth it. Liz was one of those leading ladies who can stand on her own two feet and doesn't rely on anyone to just take care of her, which helps with the respect and likability factor. I love MC books and this is one that is going to be easy to recommend to other MC fans. I hope there will be more books in this series and just more amazing stories from this author.

Castle of Kings is my first Betty Shreffler book. Her writing has an easy flow and her characters are likeable. This is bad boy and womanizer Jake Castle and good girl Liz's story. A story about how to put a bad ass in his place! Liz put her hormones aside and did just that. This girl is no push over!

Liz is the sister of the Kings MC Club's president Nix. She returns home after being away at nursing school. Of course, she gets invovlved with the baddest boy in the MC Club.... Jake is the guy your mother warned you about. He doesn't love, he just fucks, but you know the saying, the bigger they are the harder they fall.... and Jake was about to fall very far! Him & Liz were frustratingly fun. Omg I just needed them to get their shit together. Say what they felt and give in. I did enjoy the push pull
and their sexual chemistry. I just need to feel more towards them. I did love how the bad boy chased the good girl. Eventually wearing his heart on his sleeve.... Who doesnt love a reformed asshole??!

As they did their courting dance, the MC club had their own issues. Behind the scenes, stuff was going down. This isn't your typical bad ass biker club... These guys were out to do good! They were still tough but not corrupt. This was a nice spin on an MC book. I enjoyed all the characters and the plot.

I also enjoyed Nix and the King's crew. They were a good cast of characters. I'm interested to see where they go....
This is a good start to a new series.
Betty is now on my radar!

Betty has always written good books but to be honest, I was worried about her writing an MC book. I shouldn't have been. She knocked it out of the park!! Jake is an a$$ at times, well a lot of the time, but there are also times when he is just a man in love. Liz grew up around the MC life and she's no scared little girl. The attraction they feel for each other is real and you can feel that as you read the book. Drama, intensity, mystery, this book has it all. When Liz's life is threatened, Jake is going to do his best to protect her. Can he do it? Oh this book just drew me in. Wonderfully written and the characters are all top notch!! Only one question, when is the next book? LOL

Wow! I was totally submerged in this book. The steamy story had me hooked from the beginning, and I was riveted until the end.
Jake was the dominant, tough, “I own you now” type of alpha male, and he comes across as a total pig. But Jake will do anything to protect what’s his. His tough side was HOT and steamy, but time with Liz showed a side that surprised even himself and ultimately brought them both immense happiness.

I’m looking forward to more stories with characters from this story.
This book is a definite must read and I highly recommend it!

Great, loved it, Castle of kings was exactly what I'de hoped for after reading the blurb.

Jake is the hot alpha bossy type of MC character who sets his sights on the presidents sister Liz who has just returned home after a few years away finishing nursing school.
Liz has grown up in the MC, she's the type of woman who can hold her own, stand on her own two feet and she knows Jake's type, arrogant, flirtasious and a man whore.

Thing is, with Jake it's insta lust, he loves Liz's sass, he doesn't give up and he's determined to make her his.

A good mixture of club drama, angst, danger and hotness. Loved the characters. Castle of kings was everything I expect to find in an MC romance.

Told in first person dual pov.
