THREE MILITARY SCIENCE FICTION BOOKS IN ONE MASSIVE OMNIBUS!
"This is one of those stories that you just can't put down once you start." - NJacqueson June 9, 2014 "Highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy a gritty story, well-crafted characters and fantastic battle sequences." - Catherin Mackay, March 21, 2015 "...if you are looking for a fun space novel try one of these. I bet you can't put them down until you've gone through them all." Kooch, April 18, 2015 "...a story of heroism, honor and valor with a bit of mysticism thrown in for fun, but in proportions to rival Homer's epic tales." Arthur Dent, June 8, 2015
When the Empire of Man withdrew from the Spineward Sectors, they set the stage for new heroes to emerge--and nowhere did more heroes emerge than on the deck of the MSP Pride of Prometheus, commanded by Lieutenant Commander Tyrone 'Tim' Middleton.
When the Pride of Prometheus was sent out on what was supposed to be a routine patrol of the local Sector's border, no one expected its crew to uncover a conspiracy so vast that it might swallow the Spineward Sectors whole. An early run-in with Imperial-backed pirates kicks off a series of events which requires creative thinking by Captain Middleton, and every step his crew takes only seems to take them deeper into the shadows at the edge of known space.
Book One: No Middle Ground
No Middle Ground is Book One of Eight in the ongoing Middleton's Pride military space opera series, set in the 22-books-and-counting Spineward Sectors universe written by the Wachter brothers, Luke Sky and Caleb.
When the Empire abandoned the Spineward Sectors to their own devices, it was left to an underappreciated few like lifelong military man Tyrone 'Tim' Middleton and his crew of misfits aboard the aged Pride of Prometheus to keep their corner of the galaxy safe from forces which would tear it apart.
This action-packed, character-driven space opera series is full of ship battles, space marine slugfests, interstellar politics, and at twenty two total books already written in the universe--including eight in this particular sub-series--this team of author brothers is just getting started on this epic saga.
Book Two: Up The Middle
After returning from an unexpectedly lengthy tour in Sectors 23 & 24, Captain Middleton and his crew discovered just how much had happened in their absence. Admiral Montagne, having dealt with the greatest pirate threat known to the Spineward Sectors in recent history, was less than enthusiastic about the circumstances surrounding the Pride of Prometheus’ return to headquarters.
It will take creative thinking to restock the ship with crew, deal with the battle damage she previously suffered, and get the crew back into fighting shape. But creative thinking is something which Middleton and his crew have become exceedingly good at, and before long the aged cruiser finds her bow pointed at the far side of Sector 24.
With their backs to the wall, the Pride's crew discovers that the simplest course is often best...which is why Middleton and his people hit their enemies hard, fast, and straight up the middle.
Book Three: Against The Middle
After emerging victorious against the Rim Fleet detachment sent to destroy them, Captain Middleton and the Pride of Prometheus’ crew point the bow at the heart of the enemy stronghold with a unified purpose: to destroy these Imperial interlopers and erase their subversive plans to conquer the Spineward Sectors before the first of the Raubach Clan’s dominos can fall.
Ever since I was young, I've enjoyed reading stories which spurred my imagination into overdrive. After helping my brother edit his own books, I decided it was time to give something back to the community which has inspired me.
Until recently I spent far too many nights rolling dice with friends and creating what I hope were myriad memorable campaigns. Now a father of four I have less time for such engagements, but that doesn't mean I can't share the fruits of my imagination with an eager crowd.
Here's hoping I can find a crowd of people who enjoy my stories as much as I do!
To be fair to the reader, i received this omnibus as an arc, but had already read the books before as individual books. That said, the books are strong on the character- and story side, with strong diverse characters, engaging storylines and an everevolving universe with a fascinating array of enemies, but suffers from grammatical errors from time to time which is a shame as it is otherwise one of the top series in adventure sci-fi. One thing to be aware of before starting this series is that it is tied in with the Spineward Sectors series (starting with Admiral who, which cronologically lies before this book, so i'd advise starting there :) ) which focuses on a demonized (by the elected leaders of his homeworld) prince and his attempts to keep his home-sector from falling apart as the entire region rapidly falls apart in the wake of the confederated empire abandoning the entire region, using his honorary title as a confederated admiral of the Multi Sector Patrol to fight back, but lacking any civilian backing for his attempts to create stability and safety.
The first trio of books is based upon a washed up captain, Middleton, being sent out on his own to patrol the border of Known Space, to do no more than wave the flag and show the defenceless rimworlds that there is still a confederated fleet guarding against the pirates and droids (basically sentient robots) beyond the Rim, but things rapidly spin out of control upon them capturing that they thought was a minor pirate base, when in truth it was a bio-weapon production facility. After that follows a series of adventures, as Middleton decides to use his "executive authority" to turn a one-month tour of the border into a year-long hunt for the people behind the factory, a hunt that quickly uncovers more than anyone had expected. Lets just say, it isn't a decision his superiors agree with :)
HOLY CRAP!!! If you're looking for a fast paced, action packed, heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, rollercoaster ride full of emotions that will rock you to your core read. Congratulations my friends you've found it. The characters were intriguing and complex with twists, turns and unexpected surprises that kept me captivated from the start. Following the characters along mesmerized as their personalities transformed and blended. The scenes so vividly detailed and descriptive that it felt like I was part of the tale instead of reading it from the sidelines. Wachter did an incredible job as he pulled me into his imagination where everything else ceases to exist except for the world he created for our enjoyment. Remarkable job Wachter, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
Unsure how I feel about the trilogy. The first book was fairly good but the second was frequently uneven in quality. I will say the fights were as realistic as I have ever read, which is to say you had no assurance the characters you were pulling for would survive. The last book stopped in a terrible spot, so I have no idea how the author is going to manage the transition to the next book.
Great reading with plenty of action and interpersonal action. Commandor Middleton is set out on an old space destroyer to go into an area that was devided after a long war and see what has happened and wave the flag. He has a new crew and a series of space battles he must again reenlist personal for his ship and try and intregate them into the crew. Will worth reading.
Be prepared for the ride of your life as you are taken on a journey of a lifetime. You will be unable to put it down as you will want to know where it will go I received an advanced copy and I enjoyed it so much that I want to review
