DI Sally Parker is back with her team, only she is called by the Chief and asked to head a Cold Case Team! With the great results her team obtained in the last case, finding a person innocent due to one officers lack of investigation, she believes this will work well. Will her team want to be involved in this new division, she hopes all will but it is up to each member. New case is 15 years after the death of a wife, her husband found guilty of her murder and in jail. Her skeleton has just shown up in the last week, now friends and family know she is not alive. When investigating the husband,Sally finds herself sure of his innocence. DI Falkirk, found so wrong on Sally's last case, also brought this one forward. From visiting the husband in jail, where her past threatens to destroy her, to searching for the missing brother of the husband,Sally works to find the truth in all situations. Wonderful characters with memorable scenes and belief that good can win in the end, the Sally Parker series keeps you turning pages until the very end! Wonderful fourth book in the series with each one better than the last!!
Anne Gillan disappeared 15 years ago. Her remain have just been found. Her husband had been charged and imprisoned all these years.
DI Sally Parker is losing her job.. sort of. She has just been chosen to lead a cold-case squad and she's taking her entire team with her. The first case they choose is that of Anne Gillan's. Her husband has always expressed his innocence and the investigating officer back then was later found corrupt. All of his cases must be reviewed.
Is her husband actually innocent of his wife's murder? Or is he the actual murderer? Parker and her team will do whatever it takes to unearth the truth... and that means starting at the very beginning.
While visiting the husband in prison, who does Sally see? Her ex-husband, the one that Sally turned in and testified against. Isn't it strange that shortly after that encounter, anonymous notes are left, roses are found on her doorstep?
Between trying to solve a cold case and possibly righting a wrong and trying to keep her ex at bay, Sally will have to muster up all her fearlessness and hope she doesn't have a deadly encounter of her own.
Many thanks to the author for the advance digital copy of this crime thriller. Opinions expressed here are unsolicited, unbiased, and entirely my own.
Back with an old friend? This maybe my favourite detective from the many series written by Mel Comley. They are all brilliant, but this one has something extra. Great characters and a very speedy pace. In this case she and her team are put on cold cases, I think that there is something different about the feel of cold cases. Seems like its even more of victory if they find the real killer, or in some cases that the conviction was good! On to book 5.
When I saw that this book was being released I jumped at the chance to get a copy and I am so pleased that I did, it really is a brilliant story and I loved every page!!
I flew through the book and started reading it as soon as it arrived on my Kindle and I barely came up from breath and stopped until it was finished. It really did grip me right to the end and there were plenty of twists and turns to keep me guessing - just what I love in this kind of book!
The characters were great and the plot was absolutely spot on as was the writing style which was excellent as normal. This is most definitely a book that I would recommend and not hesitation in giving it a 5 star rating from me - absolutely loved it!!
Deadly Encounter is the fourth book in the DI Sally Parker series. I do think it would be beneficial for readers to have at least read the first book in the series just to give you a bit of knowledge of Sally’s personal life.
I have to say I love a good cold case. It always fascinates me how a case left unsolved years before can hope to be solved years later. The work for the police must be even more painstakingly harder. Witnesses could be dead or their memory not as good as it was. I felt quite sorry for Sally and her team as they are really working against the odds.
What I love about Sally is her compassion. A lot of detectives in crime series’ are so hardened but Sally truly cares about the people she works with as well as the victim and the people involved. It makes the hunt for the murderer even more personal and I was backing them all the way.
Deadly Encounter is yet another gripping read that I read in one sitting. The author has a way of hooking you from the very first page right up until the very last. I really hope there is more to do with cold cases in future books in the series as I loved seeing how Sally and her team work in trying to solve it. A highly recommended series.
My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
I recently named the Justice series by Mel Comley one of my favourite series but I do have to say that I also really love her Sally Parker series! I think due to the fact it’s set in Norfolk (and being a Norfolk girl myself I love to visit my home county in books) I have a soft spot for both the setting and for all the characters who live there as well. And in this, DI Sally Parkers fourth outing, I have found my favourite of the series so far.
Sally has been asked to head up a team investigating cold cases and coincidentally, a recent discovery of a body leads to their first investigation. Craig Gillan has spent the last 15 years in prison for his wife’s murder although he swears his innocence. His family has been torn apart with his children going to live with their grandparents, and he has missed them growing up, eventually becoming estranged from one of them. Upon meeting him, Sally is convinced there has been a miscarriage of justice and sets out to find the real murderer.
What I love most about Sally is that she’s like a dog with a bone when she’s presented with a case to solve. Which is remarkable considering she has her own problems to deal with as well! I do think you need to read the first three books in the series before tackling this one just so you know exactly what she’s up against!! And it’s lovely to see that her relationship seems to be going well…..so why am I getting a very weird feeling that something wicked this way comes?! I just hope her parents (love that couple!!) keep an eye out for her!!
As usual, you can trust Mel Comley to deliver a well written, perfectly plotted suspense. It’s like cuddling up with a hot chocolate, warming and comforting in its familiarity. I absolutely loved Deadly Encounter and read it cuddled up on the sofa on a stormy afternoon where it added a ray of sunshine in the cold darkness of the day. And I do hope Sally Parker is back to solve another cold case very soon!
In Deadly Encounter, Sally Parker is now head of a cold case unit and thankfully, her team has chosen to follow her. Their first case is a fifteen year old one, Anne Gillan, disappeared and her remains have only just been found. Her husband has been in jailed for the murder, but is he guilty? While investigating a previous case, Sally found DI Falkirk’s investigating skills shockingly shoddy, and is this murder going to be the same and will she find another innocent man incarcerated and his family ripped apart for no reason.
Once again, I loved Sally and her team, her parents, the wonderful Simon and of course Dex. I just adore the relationship between Sally and her parents and the personal side to all of this wonderful authors books, which make them so realistic.
Deadly Encounter is fast paced and full of surprises, a real page turner that kept me up all night reading.
In my opinion this is the best to date and I am really looking forward to more in this Sally Parker series. Highly recommended.
DI Sally Parker and her team are back in the latest instalment in this series, I really enjoyed all the other books in the series and when I started this one it was like finding your favourite blanket in the back of the wardrobe and wrapping it round you.
Sally has been asked to head up a new Cold Case department and decides to take her team along with her to assist. The first case they are given is a murder which happened 15 years previously and the husband was found guilty even though there was no body, he has protested his innocence ever since. When Sally visits him she is also convinced he's innocent and decides to move heaven and earth to prove it and to right the wrong that the investigating officer at the time made.
This is another great book in the Sally Parker series and I have to admit it made me cry at the end, I look forward to the next one. I will post my review on Goodreads and Amazon.
I truly loved reading this book, great to have Sally and her team back investigating a 15 year old cold case. Craig Gillan was found guilty of the murder of his wife and has been in prison for the last 15 years. Did he commit the crime or not? Sally and her team investigate and we get to know him and his family and the effects his imprisonment has had on them all. Great characters and interaction between the team members, these feel like people you have known for years. Fabulous story which takes the reader through a range of emotions. Yes I did cry! Another brilliant book from one of my favourite authors, cannot wait for more cold cases for Sally and her team to get stuck into.
MEL COMLEY Deadly Encounter Book four in the Sally Parker series. It’s been fifteen years since the disappearance of Ann Gillan now her body is found and the case gets opened her husband Colin was sentenced to prison despite his cries of innocence. Sally has been tasked to cold cases and looking at the cases of DI Falkirk in particular. This in my opinion is the best book in this series. 5* 4 October 2017.
I always get excited when this author has a new book published and this one did not disappoint. I'm a huge fan of Sally, her team and her personal life. Its great to catch up with them.
Craig Gillan has already served 15 years in prison for the murder of his wife. He has tried to prove his innocence over the years ....... Is he innocent or very clever?
Another great book in the Sally Parker series. A new team is set up to reinvestigate crimes where the previous investigations could have been carried out incorrectly and evidence not handled in the way it should have, leading to false imprisonment. I love the banter and loyalty within the team and their doggered determination to get to the truth.
Fierce, fiery and family-orientated describes DI Sally Parker ideally, and this book highlights her character more than ever.
I do like the cold-case turn this series has taken and it’s so interesting to read about old investigations, how they were handled and the possibility that innocent people may have been arrested.
But, is Craig truly innocent? That’s the burning question for Sally and her team in Deadly Encounter!
Oh dear, I'm the lone voice of dissent again, everyone else seems to have loved this book. I must have missed something. DI Sally Parker is a nice enough character but that's about the nicest thing I can say about it. It was obvious where the story was going, no surprises therefore no suspense. There was no drama or tension, I found it quite dull and plodding. At this point in the proceedings I am done with M.A. Comley.
I became a DI Sally Parker fan when Book 1 was published. Book 2 pulled me in even further and Book 3 totally hooked me. It's amazing to watch a character grow and follow them through their trials and errors. Book 4 in my opinion is definitely the best one yet. A real trigger for me is being able to remember every scene and the book stays with me for days after finishing it. Deadly Encounter was one of those books and will top my list for best read of 2017.
Sally and her team are offered a special unit to investigate cases that a former DI may have taken the easy way out on his investigation and convicted the wrong person. Emotions run high as their challenge is to free those wrongly convicted. But what if they're wrong? What if they make a mistake and release a killer back on the streets to kill again? Those thoughts plague them as they go through a mountain of files to choose the right cold case to reopen.
Sally follows her gut instincts and reopens a case involving a missing woman whose husband was convicted of killing fifteen years ago and whose body has just now been recovered from the river. Craig Gillan is a broken man and not just from fifteen years in prison. It only takes one interview for Sally to grasp the deep abiding love this man had for his wife and the fact that he would never have harmed her. The evidence against him was circumstantial and the former DI interviewed only a few people. Sally and her team are faced with the task of finding witnesses and uncovering the true story of what happened to Anne Gillan. Was Anne really the sweet, loving, innocent woman everyone described...or was there something hidden, something that would result in the brutal murder conducted with passion.
The characters in this story feel like real people, and if you love character driven fiction you don't want to miss this one. Highly recommended!
I was given an ARC for an honest review, but this should also say verified purchase as I purchased my own copy to read again. Like a really good movie you can watch over and over, this book is one of those I know I'll enjoy just as much the second time around.
I’ve returned to Wymondham Station and the investigations of DI Sally Parker. But this time it’s slightly different! Following on from her successful investigation in Cold Case, Sally has been invited to head up a new team reviewing the convictions of former DI Falkirk. I say invited, she’s basically told that if she doesn’t take on the role and her team come with, they are looking at being deployed elsewhere….. what a choice! Of course our Sally isn’t one to shy away from a challenge!!
The first case they look at is Craig Gillan, convicted of the murder of his wife Anne. This is a dodgy conviction from the off. Craig is convicted without any witnesses or a body. Sally’s gut instinct tells her he’s innocent but she needs to find the real killer before she can get Craig released! And what an investigation it is!!
This story properly tugs at the heartstrings with emotive storylines of soulmates with a young family ripped at the seams. Not only that, Sally has more personal issues to deal with which rear their ugly heads as she’s trying to prove Craig’s innocence.
Once again, Ms Comley has written a cracker of a story that kept me tapping my kindle and I so didn’t guess who Anne’s murderer was!! I won’t tell you who I thought it was but put it like this, I was way way off the mark this time. I really enjoyed Sally’s first Cold Case and I’m hoping this new team has a way to go reviewing these cases from the past.
What a pleasure to read such a fantastic book. I don't know how this author does it but she mesmerizes this reader from start to finish with her well thought out story line which she weaves around her characters. I was in the depths of despair at the beginning when Jack Blackman decided he couldn't bear to work on cold cases for the foreseeable future & wanted to transfer, because the interaction between himself & DI Parker is one of the best. The 2 compliment each other, both being wind up merchants similar to the author!!!! But eventually after seeing what was left available to him, thankfully for this reader,he decided not to bother. A well written book which I would highly recommend to readers that want to be engrossed from the beginning.
Book four in the DI Sally Parker series and again this is a cracker of a police thriller . In this book DI Parker and her team have been asked to investigate cold cases and the first one they start with is the case of Craig Gillan, who has been in prison for the past 15 years charged with murdering his wife . This is a fantastic police thriller and I didn't want to put the book down . I really love the way DI Parker is developing as a character and I love the way she has such a great relationship with the rest of her team, especially Jack. Another wonderful read by the talented M A Comley.
Once again a fantastic read, the book starts with DI Sally Parker being summoned to see the Chief Constable, her worry turns to delight when she is asked to head up a brand new Cold Case Team. But does her partner want to join her in this?? The first case looks at a man who has been in prison for 15 years for the murder of his wife, is he innocent? DI Parker is right in there trying to solve the case. A page turner that has you questioning yourself, is he guilty or not. Highly recommended.
Deadly deceit by mel comley. Di sally parker and her team are back. She is called in to dcis office to see the cheif Constable. He wants her to look into the cases that Falkirk investigated. Sally and her team look at the murder of anne Gillan. Who was it? Was it someone she knew? Sally will find out? Omg. Another fantastic read from mel. Hooked. Trying to figure out who it was. This is a must read and I would highly recommend this book. Defenetly worth more than 5* .
I've read a lot of books by Mel Comley. Every one is a great read. This one being no exception. If you haven't read any of this author's books yet, give one of her books a try. You'll be back for more, I promise.
Fantastic read. I love all the books in the Sally Parker series. Brilliant characters and well thought out storyline. This is one author that never disappoints
Omg omg Deadly Encounter has left me lost for words . It was like meeting an old friend for coffee things just carry on as if there has been no gap . Sally Parker is one tough lady and once again she fights for the truth . In a story that leaves you totally breathless and your head spinning . This is one series everyone should read .
Deadly Encounter is a great story and a book that I could not put down! I love the camaraderie between Sally and Jack. All the team have great characters which makes the books even more enjoyable. The story is fast paced, intense and gritty - I loved it.
If the plot had been supported by a better writing style this could possibly have been a good story. But the mealy mouthed dialog, the goody-two-shoe attitudes and the one dimensional characters do not measure up to what I expect in this genre. I am not a fan of rough and dirty writing either, but the text cannot be as weak as this. It is my personal reaction only. However, I will not try any further titles by this author.
Guilty ....or Not Guilty? The race is on to find a killer
DI Sally Parker is now in charge of the Cold Case Unit..Craig Gillan is in prison for the murder of his wife Anne..Craig who has always protested his innocence has been there for fifteen years...Since he has been in jail his son has disowned him ,his parents have died, he has lost his home fifteen years of his life...and the only people that believe in him are his daughter and Anne's parents who are in no doubt that the wrong man is in prison. After taking the case Sally goes to visit Craig in prison...and there and then thinks they have put the wrong man in jail. The original detective Falkirk a stubborn ignorant man rushed things through and Craig Gillan was jailed and found guilty...Sally and her team move fast ...Sally has more on her mind though when she sees someone from the past who she hoped never to see again...On questioning one suspect tragedy strikes...and this is something that will haunt Sally... Annes remains have been found....yet who could have killed her? The team finally get a breakthrough.... Who is guilty....And will Craig Gillan see freedom ?....A story of a man in torment,a relentless detective ,secrets...obsession and murder...I raced through the pages of this heart wrenching ,brilliant storytelling....
Another on the edge of your seat thriller from M.A. Comley.
Sally Parker is a great strong female lead and in this book she is in charge of a case regarding a murder of a Woman from 15 years previously, where the Husband was imprisoned. He has all along protested his innocence and is lucky enough to now have Sally in charge of the case who believes him and works her magic to try and prove he did not do it. Will she be able to or is it too late?
The characters were yet again great in this book, which we have come to know and love about M. A. Comley’s work. She has the art of making you lose sleep, not eat and devour her books in one sitting because once you start reading one of her books, you just cannot stop. Another brilliant read. Another 5*.
This was a great read, I absolutely loved every minute I spent reading it and can’t wait to see what’s next. I am a massive fan of the DI Sally Parker series it’s just fab!!
Deadly Encounter is a really good read, takes you through a whirlwind of emotions whilst keeping you completely sucked in and wondering just what is next. It has twists and turns, which keeps the feeling of suspense and the unknown right until the last minute!! I really didn’t know what/ who to believe!! I am one of these who always tries to work it out for myself as I go along but this book didn’t give anything away which is fab and must take real talent from the author.
This is the fourth of the DI Sally Parker series, DI Sally Parker was first introduced to fans in the Justice Series. However you can definitely read this series without needing to read the Justice Series to get the jist. Saying that the Justice series is also an amazing series by M.A Comley and I 100% recommend it to crime/ thriller fans like myself.
What I love about this authors books is the fact that it’s never just about a murder mystery, it’s also about the characters personal/ family lives, which enables the reader to get to know and love/ hate the characters.
How does M A Comley do it??? Yet another 5* read which had my attention from page 1. Sally Parker and her team have been tasked to re-investigate a murder from fifteen years ago for which the husband was imprisoned.
The team have a great rapport and I particularly love the banter. Also, having read the three previous books involving Sally Parker, I enjoy the background stories of her partner and family. Whilst it is a thriller, it has the comfort of being familiar.
The case was previously investigated by a detective who had been renowned for poor investigative skills. Ann Gillan's remains have been found and the team re-interview all the original witnesses along with Craig Gillan, the accused husband who is still in jail. The whole family had been torn apart and suffered for all those years.
The investigation held my interest and I wanted to read quickly to see where it would go but also did not want it to finish!
