On My Knees was a heavier, slower-paced read. It was very well-written. I just got a bit frustrated throughout the book.
The story begins with Maya and Cameron in college. Cameron is home on leave from the military and is spending the Spring Break week with Maya. It's evident that they are very much in love with each other. But when Cameron "proposes" to Maya, Maya says
In all fairness, it wasn't exactly a hearts and flowers proposal. Regardless, Cameron ends up walking out of Maya's life and they don't speak for the next five years.
Maya spends that time
And drowning her sorrows. She's really a rather miserable person. She hates her job, hates life, hates love.
After college Maya ends up in New York and coincidentally so does Cameron. They end up re-connecting. The old feelings are there for both Maya and Cameron. But while Cameron is more receptive to moving on from their past and starting over, Maya is NOT.
It's like for every one step forward Cameron and Maya took, they took two more steps backwards. Maya was SO hot and cold. She'd start to let Cameron in and then she'd push him away.
Maya was so damaged from their last break-up she just couldn't trust that Cameron wouldn't walk out on her again and leave her broken-hearted, despite how strong her feelings for Cameron were.
Just when I thought FINALLY. Finally we are getting some where. Cameron and Maya are going to be in a good place, she seems happy.
Bam, the rug was pulled. And we're back to square one.
Poor Cameron, I'm not sure Maya was worth all of the trouble. She was a hot mess. But Cameron loved her and he was willing to endure whatever he had to if it meant Maya was his in the end.
I was literally on my knees begging Maya to get her shit together for the majority of the book. I NEEDED Cameron and Maya to get their shit together.
So while yes, the majority of the book I was frustrated as hell the book and the story did make me feel. Not all feels are good feels.
Stand-alone book 1. FREE: https://www.amazon.com/My-Knees-Bridg... BLURB: Haunted by the responsibility of caring for her troubled family, Maya Jacobs gave the only answer she could when Cameron asked her to marry him. Cameron Bridge has spent the past five years married to the military, trying to escape the painful memory of losing Maya. After fighting his own war in the desert, he starts a new life in New York City, with his siblings, Olivia and Darren, by his side.
When fate brings Maya back to him in the heart of a city filled with its own hopes and shadows, can Cameron find the girl he once loved in the woman she’s become?>

This is my third Meredith Wild read and my first bump up to 5 stars for her. I absolutely love Meredith's writing style and how she draws you in and really makes you feel for the characters. Even when they are doing things, or making choices that make you want to shake the crap out of them, you get it!!!
This was no different. I absolutely loved watching Maya grow and learn who she was and what she wanted out of life. Cam was delicious, and strong, and delightful.
The story is about a second chance at love and leaving the scars of the past behind for the promise of the future. There will be plenty of bumps and twists, vices, and people who want to use you or bring you down. If this story teaches you anything it is that you can dare to hope and dream. Things may not turn out the way you planned but that's part of the lesson in the journey!
And if the heartfelt approach doesn't make you want to read it... well then may I add that it has some scorching, smoking hot sex!!!!
What a bad book. It was geniuely bad. Not joking. Yes the first 130 pages were nice because you just get into the story and are still getting to know the characters but my god the further I read the worse it got.
Our female protagonist Maya is talking about how much she needs a drink all the time. In the same sentence it's always how much her life sucks just as her job and everything else. She hates literally everything and ShE CaNt LeT AnYoNe LoVe HeR. Yeah well I guess nobody even wants to love you since you are always bitching about everything and lord behold when someone says anything against her or gives her a advice. She will literally break out like a fucking vulcano.
Then we have Cameron who proposed to Maya because he loves her so god damn much. Even after 5 years of which he was 3-4 years in a war ( or something else nobody really talks about his problems or takes it seriously) he still can only think about Maya and how much he loves her. He's now running a fitness center and is all muscles and tall and sexy and so on and so on.
They meet after 5 fucking years, a very long time it you ask me and are still like acting like children. What makes me furious is that Maya is acting like Cameron broke her heart and not the other way around and it just leaves me dumbfounded because she literally turned him down so it was his right to walk out of this relationship. Who wouldn't have done that? At first Cameron didn't thought this way but as I read further it became clear HE BLAMES HIMSELF BECAUSE HE PROPSED AND THEN LEFT HER WHEN SHE SAID NO. Boy it's your right to go after something like that.
He is so obsessed with the Maya from 5 years ago its scary. There's a scene, don't worry no spoilers in my reviews, where Maya pulls out a cigarette to smoke and he freaks out and screams at her for how bad it is and how she could even think about doing it. She is not allowed to do it when she wants to be around him. (That's fucking crazy) And Maya. My god Mayas reaction made me even more mad. She just thought "Oh he shouldn't tell me what to do with my body" Girl that's a nice thought. Say it to him! "But it's also great he even cares" Whaaaaaaaaaaat. She then basically agrees to his conditions and everything is fine?? I don't say cigarettes are good ffs you know what I mean.
To come back to Cameron's obsession: Whenever it turns out that Maya changed over the five years they didn't see each other he freaks out and tries to change her back to fit an ideal he has made up. Maya always says "Ehwwww you can't change me" but in the end she acts exactly like Cameron wants.
They are also always fighting?? Maya is always pushing him away and is being hot and cold and basically just a bitch. And that doesn't change through the book. But the author tries to give her some kind of personality with saying she writes poems. That's all. Mayas character is basically just being a bitch, having some seriously anger and drinking issues and mentioning 5 times she writes. But how to they cope with their fighting? Yeah they just fuck and afterwards everything is fine.
Cameron is running after Maya like my dog runs after me when I have treats. But he is also as I said controlling. Things saying like "You're mine and none elses and you belong to me" kinda makes me want to throw up. She's her own self and can make her own decisions just as everyone else but whenever she has doubt he just says: "I don't allow a no as answer" and basically pushes her until she gives in.
He also treats his siblings like shit whenever they mentione something against Maya. Simple things likes "Hey she really hurt you. Please be careful" make Cameron go all nuts and this happens through the whole book and I can't deal with that. You don't put your family behind a girl which left you and now still treats you like shit.
I also wouldn't call the thing they had love. They were obsessed with each other and Maya just needs help and Cameron needs a pretty woman he can protect and love.
I really need to end that rant before I run in circles. I have to admit that the writing was fine and it was easy to read. The sex scenes were okay but sometimes really unrealistic. That's all. There are so many more things to say and more scenes to talk about but in the end I just have to say I didn't like this book, I won't continue the series and I can't recommend it to anybody.
I am also sorry for my English. You know it's not my native language so I just tried to avoid complex words.
Second chance romance with a determined H and a hesitant h
6 stars for the H, 4 for the h: This… THIS is the kind of second chance romance I like to read, the kind where the h isn’t celibate or pining away for the H while he’s a hoar. In this case, both have been with other people, and BOTH find out no one else will do.
The prologue starts five years before- Cameron and Maya are together; he’s enlisted in the army and asks her to marry him, but she doesn’t say yes, so he tells her they’re over and leaves her. He never asks her why or questions her indecision…
5 years pass and Maya’s (25) a Wall Street analyst while Cameron’s a gym owner. He continued serving in the military for a few years, opting to be in the middle of war because he felt he had nothing to go home to, which is why Cameron‘s family dislike Maya. When Cameron’s sister, Olivia, sees her in the middle of the street and tells Cameron about it, he uses it to his advantage and “bumps” into her. She was completely BROKEN when he left her all those years before, so she doesn’t wanna have any kind of relationship with Cameron, but Cameron’s not about to back down or stay away this time. THIS time, he’s gonna be there for her like he wasn’t before.
The chemistry was 🔥. Maya might try to deny it, but damn, Cameron’s right- they’re meant to be together. I felt it all from every touch, every glance, every breath. The primal connection is *chef’s kiss*. Even when he’s “innocently” helping her work out with dumbbells, I was MELTING 🥵. And Dear God, this man’s body is a WORK OF ART💦😅. His muscles have muscles (I mean- he DOES own a gym). I love how he finagles his way back into her life 😈. It starts with the simple challenge of having her work out everyday for a week instead of drinking or smoking (which he gets her to stop doing) to even questioning what she puts in her body to embarking on a “friendship”. Their separation took a toll on BOTH of their mental healths, but her physical health also took a beating- the ANGST was real y’all. But he SEES her, he reads BETWEEN the lines, and he wants her EVEN more than before, but this time, he’s NOT giving up- and damn… he proved all my misconceptions wrong 👏🏻😅.
🔥Besides this being angsty and emotional, it was STEAMY🥵. Thank you Meredith Wild for not doing FTB scenes 👏🏻. Omg when he eats his favorite dessert (😉😈) on his desk, gets IT in, and then picks her up and does what any woman wants her STRONG/FIT man to do… lift her up and down in the air while he continues… um… loving her 🥵💦- I swear, I saw angels myself 👏🏻and then he ends it all on the wall, strong-man style. Cameron does not hold back 👏🏻🥵.
While I love push/pull relationships, I got annoyed with Maya a few times…all the female colleague scenes were annoying. I’m glad both Cameron and eventually Maya put her in her place, but it takes a while (the woman propositioned Maya… yup… and then thinks Cameron would enjoy a threesome with the two of them 🙄🤢. He turns her down- yeet style)
Overall, I loooooved Cameron! He doesn’t give in to any BS from anyone, including his family and any women that try to throw themselves at him 👏🏻, and he rescues Maya many times, including the ugly office scene. Maya had difficult situations she had to face, from her absentee mother to her sick grandmother to workplace inequalities, but I wish she would’ve realized Cam was in it for the long haul sooner. He’s so dreamy 🥰.
⚠️ safety squad ⚠️ spoilers ahead (they’re detailed in review) -no cheating/sharing/omd -5 year separation: both MCs were NOT celibate -work drama -h kisses a girl while drunkenly dancing (before h and H are together); later in the book, that woman ends up propositioning the H for a threesome 😐the H is grossed out by her 👏🏻. After, ow unsuspectedly kisses the h and tells her that their boss could watch them and they’ll get promotions while their boss enters the room, ready to watch and join. The h runs out -OW is interested in H, he’s not- ow makes the h doubt the H but H makes it known he only wants the h
If you read Meredith Wild's Hacker Series, be prepared...this is NOT the Hacker series. Cameron and Maya's story is sad, heartbreaking, frustrating and a reunion that you aren't quite sure is ever going to happen. After turning down Cameron's proposal, Maya lost herself. She drank hard and partied harder. She didn't get attached to anything other than the drink in her hand and that suited her just fine. You get the sense she is operating on auto-pilot and isn't really living. You just want to grab her and shake her out of her funk and make her believe she is worthy of love. Cameron walked away from the love of his life. He wanted to marry Maya, it was that simple. He didn't care that she didn't come from money, he just wanted her. He threw himself in to his military career, then when that was over, started a gym, just blocks away from Maya's apartment. He never forgot her and like Maya, threw himself in to his job to mask the pain. After a chance meting with Cameron's sister, Maya is faced with emotions she fought like hell to avoid. A chance yoga session with her bff/roommate brings her face to face with the one person that could either be her downfall, or save her from herself. This story is just as much Cam's as it is Maya's. Both are trying to live their lives but just can't move on. Meredith addresses the very real subject of alcoholism in a very real way that makes you think it really could happen to anyone. Maya frustrates you to no end. She has every excuse in the book why she needs that drink, and every time she does, it gets her in to nothing but trouble. Cam is the one person that calls her on her problem and doesn't accept excuses. He may mess up and you just want to groan and say, "WHY CAM WHY?!?!" but his heart is in the right place. Through their journey they find that their initial pact of being "just friends" is going to be much harder than they thought. The supporting characters are amazing!! Eli quickly became my favorite. Everyone needs an Eli. Vanessa is the girlfriend you love to hang with. She's your go to girl. These two, along with Cam's brother, Darren help our couple realize what they have is real, they just both have to take a chance. The one thing I love about this story is that it is very....real. It's emotional, it's frustrating, it will have you crying tears of sadness and joy by the end. Meredith Wild proves once again that she is a force to be reckoned with in the literary world. Certainly one of my Top 10 so far this year.
Audible Review I loved the duel narration. Both narrators did a good job. Im pretty picky about audible vs reading a book for the first time and I would recommend the audible version.
Story Review I liked everything about this book except the heroine. This is a case of too much pushing away. I think Cam proved himself enough. Instead of talking out her fears, she kept him at arms length and yet kept him reeled in enough to keep trying. It just gets to a point of frustration for a reader to not see much progress.
This is my first book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised by how invested in This story !
This was a beautiful book on second chances which I am a sucker for. I loved the chemistry and it was a perfect bled of sexy and sweet to satisfy any romance reader. There were plenty of obstacles and wrenches thrown into their path but I really enjoyed Cameron and Maya's journey back to each other. Where they belong. ❤️I'm openly sighing now. I love sexy sweet ❤️
Fazit "All for You - Sehnsucht" hat mir leider kaum gefallen.
I had the great pleasure to preview a copy of On My Knees. It will be released in two weeks time, at which point I will buy the official copy. My review is based on the beta.
The prologue in its entirety is available online at www.meredithwild.com. Please read it to get a taste of what is to come.
I don't want to give any spoilers or ruin the experience for anyone. I really enjoyed how Meredith formatted this book. We get both Maya's and Cameron's point of view.
There have been a number of books released since 50 Shades that rely on the young innocent girl/hardened Mr. Universe model. On My Knees breaks that model wide open. There are twists and turns that had my stomach in knots.
What I adore about a Meredith Wild book is that she is so descriptive, I feel like I am in the same room as these characters. I can cry with them, I can be outraged and disgusted with them. It is an adult erotic book, and there is plenty of erotica! As good as The Hacker Series has been, she has upped the ante with On My Knees. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone with a free afternoon :)
I plan to update my review once the book has been officially released.
I am going to say two things right now about this review: it will be long in its praises, and will not do this phenomenal book as much justice as it deserves. (I am being honest. My words just aren't as good.)
Are you ready to hit the ground running? Lace up your shoes and be prepared to run, because once you start this book, you won't be able to put it down until the very last page. It's going to suck you in, but you will be oh so glad it did. I had the incredible opportunity to read On My Knees before it was released. Having read Meredith Wild's other books, I figured I would pretty much love this one too. Not so shocking: my prediction was spot on. (If you haven't read her other books, go one-click those bad boys as soon as you finish reading this book and review! Do it, because it's so worth your while.)
I won't reveal anything major plot wise, but I will give you a little something to entice you about On My Knees, Maya and Cameron, and their story. It's hard to put everything I felt while reading this story into this review (especially without revealing everything....)but this is just a taste of the things I felt while reading this phenomenal book. It was visceral, it was extremely vulnerable and raw at many times, it had moments that will break your heart and put you back together all in the same breath, and it was magnificently sweet in the way all us lovers of love stories will just simply love. (Can you tell I like the word love?)
On My Knees is told in dual perspectives of the main characters Maya and Cameron, which sets this story up beautifully. (I am totally team dual perspective!) It also opens with a prologue that will have you engaged and ready to devour the book from the first page. It doesn't take long to get right to the good stuff, too. You will feel Maya and Cameron right from the very beginning, and you won't stop feeling until your done.
On My Knees follows Maya and Cameron as they are thrust back together because of a chance encounter on a busy New York City street. You see, these two have a past, and neither of these deliciously dynamic characters have dealt with that past. Like at all. In the beginning of the book a choice is made, and both Cameron and Maya are still presently reeling from the repercussions of that choice. Those repercussions effect each of them differently, but effect them they do. The reasons for that choice are thoughtfully explained and presented over the course of the story, as Maya and Cameron are presented with another chance. When these two characters find themselves face to face for the first time, they can't help but be drawn to one other again. There are so many desires/thoughts/questions/answers/profanities left unsaid between them, and despite all of the hurt and pain these two share and feel whole heartedly throughout the book, they just can't stay away from one another.
This book is full of gut wrenching ups and downs that will leave you breathless, laughing, smiling like a fool, melting into puddles of emotion, fanning yourself repeatedly, and its just remarkable. It also has some pretty interesting twists and turns that keep the story moving at a pace you will just adore.
I do not have the right words to properly describe Maya and Cameron to you, but I am going to try my darn best to attempt this with these magnificently dynamic and wholly authentic characters. Both of these characters have their "flaws" that makes them them. These "flaws" just work, and make these characters relatable and easy to read, and you will whole heartedly feel for them when you step into their minds. They also have a spark that flies off the page in spades. It's almost tangible at times, and you will feel their connection to one another as if it were you yourself feeling those things. How that connection changes/evolves/grows over the story also makes for something pretty darn lovely.
Maya has chutzpah. That's my favorite way to describe her, because she just is who she is and rocks it. She is unapologetic in a lot of ways, completely owns that, and even though sometimes I wanted to shake her because she was being difficult, I simply adored her character. I also felt for her character from beginning to end, and I thought her development over the course of the book was SPECTACULAR. It also felt extremely well-paced, never too fast or too slow. Just right. Maya’s vulnerability and how she feels comes across beautifully, and it’s easy to understand why she feels, thinks, and acts the way she does. Maya also has a past that gets revealed over the course of the story, and I felt that these revelations came across wonderfully, and helped really explaine why the chips fell the way they did.
Cameron was just a good fucking guy. He is honest from the get go, and he is not afraid to put it all out there. He also puts his vulnerability on display, and I liked that he was just willing to go there. He recognized his mistakes and he owned them, which took a lot in my opinion. He knew when he fucked up, and boy did he try to make up for the choices and actions he made. (Basically he's a good character inside and out!) Cameron is also possessive of Maya in a way that is endearing, yet doesn’t make you want to call the cops. It was balanced well, and it fit his character exponentially. He was determined, he never gave up, and his feelings are his. He's also really good looking, so there's that too.
Not to be outdone, this book has some "supporting" characters that will blow you out of the water. At times they add the humor that you didn't even know you needed, the drama you love, and the clarity our two main love birds kind of lack when they're busy with their heads up their butts. (In Maya and Cameron's defense, they have a lot of baggage within their past and present, so its easy to see how they could get caught up in it.)Each of these additional characters add their own flavor to the story that fits seamlessly in with what is happening with Maya and Cameron. I definitely have my favorites within this cast of characters (cough cough Eli), and I am hoping more is to come with them. Fingers crossed.
On My Knees follows Maya and Cameron and their scorching off the page chemistry, as they try to figure out what is what between them. They are drawn to one another for a lot of reasons. This story follows them as they try to find, build, and cross the bridge from where they were to where they actually want to be. Their journey is wholly theirs, and makes for an extremely engaging story that will have you in tears one moment, breathless from the visceral moments so eloquently written in the next, smiling like a fool in others, fanning yourself from the connection you feel between them, and in the end you will just feel balanced. Maybe that's not the most interesting word to choose, but that's what I thought at the end of reading On My Knees. It's just balanced, and it works. It's got it all! Every aspect of this book comes together to make a fantastically developed story that you're just going to love.
Suffice to say: You. Are. Going. To. Love. This. Book.
So just do yourself a god damned favor, and buy it now.

☆ ☆ ☆☆ 4 CAMERON Stars ☆ ☆ ☆☆
On My Knees by Meredith Wild is a slow paced emotional journey of second chances and love. This book focuses on Cameron and Maya reconnecting after five years of separation. During the past five years, Maya was left broken and an empty shell of her former self. Her spirit and heart was broken when she turned down Cameron’s proposal. Now, five years later, Maya and Cameron are reunited in New York. After so many years, the strong feelings they had for each other are still there and stronger than ever. Cameron willing to put the past between them and move forward wants to make Maya his. The love they had for each other is still there but the only thing that is stopping them from really moving forward is Maya’s fears and doubts. How long will Cameron be on his knees begging for Maya to take a chance on their love?
What made On My Knees worthwhile was Cameron Bridge. There was no doubt in his love and devotion to Maya. The man deserves a medal for putting up with Maya’s back and forth indecisiveness. Majority of the time, I found myself frustrated with Maya. I wanted to shake her so she could see what is standing in front of her.. I wanted to scream at Maya to come clean and admit her love for Cameron and take that chance. The slow emotional journey of Maya and Cameron will have you on your knees begging for these two to finally get it right the second time around. Overall, I enjoyed this sweet sexy emotional second chance romance and I look forward to reading Darren and Vanessa’s story in Into the Fire.
This is not your normal rich billionaire mogul love story. This is the story of possibility and how powerful undying love can really be; this is about Maya and Cam, their love, their love lost and the possibility of their love rekindling.
5 years after saying 'no', several deployments later, the stresses of working on wall street and the alcohol abuse the heartbreak was still present for both Cam and Maya.
When Maya Jacobs isn't working her daily 9-5 job on Wall Street she is suppressing her demons and regrets with alcohol. Not wanting to let her heart be broken again, she stays guarded and in a sense untouchable.
Cam Bridges(swoon) has immersed himself into his gym after completing several deployments. Still reeling from the heartbreak and not wanting to par take in the family business he with his sister Olivia and brother have become their own family.
A chance run in on a busy New York City street was the last thing Maya expected to happen.
How could Maya and Cam be living in the same city, blocks apart and not know? Could this chance encounter be what they both need? Can Cam with his big heart and persistence see past all of Maya's demons and knock down the walls that she has built around her?!
Can their love story end in a 'yes' or is Maya always going to be haunted by her demons?
Dnf 60% I never thought I'd moan about this, but this one was just tedious sex scenes strung together with a half hearted second chance style plot. He was devoted to her in spite of the fact she'd experienced something of a total personality lobotomy since they last met.
It's a shame really as I've read her hacker series books and thought they were gripping but this really missed the mark I'm afraid. Ah well.
OMG....you will need a box of tissues with this book....I felt like i was having every emotion that the characters were having... This is a must read book..if i could give it more than 5 stars i would....
Maya dopo aver terminato brillantemente l’università, trova lavoro a Wall Street in ambito finanziario.
For this book I’m liking… Waiting Game by Banks Why this song, you ask. Well let me tell you… because this entire damn book is a waiting game!
Is happiness going to ensue? No… fine then.
Okay, how about now? No? …Seriously?
Now? Still Nada.
Now?!! WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO! GOD DAMNIT! My life is black abyss.
(<—- I mean this in the best way possible.)
Anyways, other than that I love the vibe. Love the sexy, almost suspenseful bass that leaves you on the edge of your seat. Like your waiting for something (*snorts* I see what I did there..) to happen and you have no idea if it will.
Overall Rating: 4.25 Stars ****1/4
I had the wonderful wonderful opportunity to beta this book, and let me tell you it did not disappoint. I haven’t read the Hacker Series – *GASP* I know how offensive – so this was my first introduction to Ms. Wild and what an introduction it was.
This book is…. angst. No, not ‘angsty’, it is angst. Pure, unadulterated, emotion stringing, frustration inducing, tear activating, hair pulling, book throwing angst.
And I loved every page of it.
I ate that sh*t up like my chubby dog would gobble up a plate of bacon.
This is a story of heartbreak and of a woman who’s issues are so deeply embedded in her consciousness, you have no idea whether she’s going to allow herself to find happiness or be constantly pushing it away with a vengeance. As a reader, sure I got frustrated. I wanted to strangle Maya, bitch slap her, hug her, comfort her, talk encouragement to her – but it’s always easy as a reader to say, “Just be happy”, especially when we were in Cameron’s head and saw how he loved her unconditionally. Like truly unconditionally. I’m not sure I’d be as understanding as him, considering how many secrets she was keeping. Good on’ im. Good on’ im.
Anyways, these two had chemistry that was THROUGH THE ROOF!
Like Holy Crapola. *Fans self* I was invested in them from literally page 1. PAGE 1! Cam was AMAZING. Incredibly sexy, confident, strong – he was this rock in a wild ocean that was always consistent.
I would strongly recommend this book (PS. I want to clearly state I did enjoy Maya as a character. I know it probably seems a bit ambiguous, but she is actually a fun character).
What a fantastic read!

PS. Who else's head went to the gutter when they read the title....
DNF 60% The first 100 pages were intriguing. Loved that the h had moved on like the H during their 5 yr separation. They both had lovers.
Then it just went downhill. Sheer boredom from the sameness. Nothing happens but her repeating the same dialog internally. Couldn’t connect with the h, because author didn’t bother with character development.
Also hated how the h had turned into a smoking alcoholic, and an attention whore who kisses and makes out with a female on the dance floor, because men were cheering her on.🙄 Who doesn’t love girls who dresses slutty and makes out with girls for attention? 🙄🙄🙄
The original breakup reason: S broke his heart by refusing to marry him. He leaves her after she refuses, and then she spends the whole book blaming him for breaking her heart.😑
This review may contain SPOILERS! I was honestly hoping for a little more action from this book! The beginning was fine, and the story did sound promising, therefore I'd hoped that the unraveling mystery and reason why the whole split at the beginning happened, would end in a reasonable and emotional conclusion. Which was not the case, I felt like the main character, Maya, just pushed the love interest, Cameron, around and that kind of made me view her in an unpleasant way. At the end of the novel I just thought, "Thank god it's over now". It wasn't per se a bad book, it just didn't capture my attention enough to make me want to read it desperately, like some of the other romance novels I've read. I liked some of the side characters like Darren, Vanessa and Eli, which is good since I do have plans of reading all three books in this series. Although, I'm currently not a big fan of Olivia so I hope that will change in the next book or so, so that I can look forward to reading her story in the last one. 3/5 stars
OMG!!!!!! Once again Meredith Wild has knocked it out of the park with this new book series :)
From the first chapter you get sucked into Cameron and Maya's story.
I love the way Meredith developed each character and their back story, it kept me wanting to read more and not put the book down. The interaction between Cameron and Maya was so well written, I loved how we read Cameron's take on things as well, it gave more depth and understanding to the story. Especially since men are way more complicated than women (my husband hates when I state that little factoid...lol) and Meredith got inside Cameron's head so well. The side characters are all interesting as well and I look forward to their stories as the series progresses.
Their dialogue was very real in the misunderstandings and emotions that all of us go through with our significant other...lol.
If you love Meredith's Hacker Series then you will love The Bridge Series!!!!
I'm sorry. I just can't put myself through this anymore. It sucks too, because I LOVED Meredith Wild's Hacker Series. I thought the Bridge Series was a sure thing. And, I will preface this review by saying that I still love Meredith Wild's writing. I may even try the second book in this series someday. Because, my problem wasn't with the author or the words on the page.
I have nothing against the three Bridge siblings. Truly. Cameron was amazing. Sure, he might have royally screwed up with Maya when they were younger, but he goes to great lengths to prove to her that he's not the same person and that he won't leave her ever again.
You know that scene in the movie Clue where Mrs. White is talking about how she hates her husband so much that she has flames on the side of her face? Yeah. That's me and how I feel about Maya.
She spends the entire book (or, at least, the 60% of it that I read) all judgy and and butt-hurt over Cameron's mistakes. And yet, never once did she ever think that perhaps she could've prevented all of their heartache by telling him the entire truth from the very beginning. Although I don't know what that secret is, and was curious for a while, I just don't care anymore. All I know is that Maya thinks it's okay to lord Cameron's mistakes over his head as a way to continually make him suffer, and yet by keeping something obviously so big from him, one could argue that what she has done is much worse.
Maya is a miserable human being. She hates her job. She spends every weekend getting plastered so that she can try and forget how unhappy she is. She allows herself to be manipulated and led by others. She gets herself into completely inappropriate and horrific situations which puts other people's hands all over her, and then she has the NERVE to get pissed at Cameron when he is upset about it. Seriously, this chick is never ever happy, and therefore, no one around her is either.
I have such a hard time getting into a story when I can't stand one of the characters. And I really loathed Maya. I wasn't enjoying the book at all, so I had to stop.
I NEVER start a book and DNF it. I always push through but this year I told myself that if it is that bad to just stop it. This is one of those books.
Maya is an unlikeable character who is self-absorbed and self-pitying. Looking at the synopsis it says she is in a "soulless job" but what it should have said is that she is soulless and a shell of a person. No personality and no energy for life. She doesn't have a "work hard, play hard" lifestyle. She doesn't 'play hard' she gets drunk and proves yet again to be a self-absorbed woman. Cameron also shows no signs of having gone through a painful experience of a bad breakup. Apart from a comment about re-upping in the military because of her there is no evidence of him being saddened by her refusal of his proposal. Their reunion is not convincing at all. There were so many spelling and grammar errors "I road it out until I was wet with need". Really? Really? Another thing that annoyed me about this book is that it is the typical writing style where the author tells the reader everything rather than showing us. I feel like as far back as high school we are always being told "show, don't tell". Due to this, there is no real sense of chemistry, yearning, or romance here. We are told they like each other but we don't actually see it.
I can't even express how much I loved this story! That being said, this was definitely not a beach read. This was a turn off the phone, lock the doors, climb inside and don't come out until you've finished the journey kind of story. It could be heavy at times, and heartbreaking, but was so real and so honest I couldn't put it down! I love that we finally have a sexy hero who is an everyman...while the billionaire playboys are fun to read, I really believed that I could go out and walk down the street and meet Cam! He was a man, not a mogul.
Throughout most of the book, I wanted to slap some sense into Maya, but even at her worst she was plucky and funny and sweet. Their chemistry leaped off the page, and while it was not an over the top romance, it was something that was sensual and beautiful and so real sometimes I couldn't help but cry. Anyone who has struggled with demons like Maya will feel her pain, and her battle with alcohol rang true on so many levels.
I love Cam and Maya, and can't wait to revisit them in later installments of The Bridge series!
I fell in love with Meredith Wild's writing through her Hacker Series, and she hooked me again with On My Knees!
I was completely captivated by their story before the prologue was even over. I just knew I would need plenty of tissues handy and I was right. The way Meredith sucks you in immediately is amazing. My heart was broken before the book even began and very, very slowly, she put it back together through a beautiful second chance love story.
Cameron might possibly be the most patient and understanding man ever! Maya put him through so much, but she herself was going through so much too, that I felt for her even when I was utterly frustrated by her. I kept cheering for Cameron to stay strong, and he did! My heart broke for both of them. Their struggles, their triumphs, their heartaches, their love, and all the highs and lows were so real that you can't help but become a part of them and feel everything they go through.
The characters are so well developed, the writing phenomenal, and the story itself is A+. -Tynna, Kiss And Tell Reviews
