Now I have become Death, and my shadow shall consume worlds.
Samantha continues her journey with the Shadow Corps, an elite group of the universe's most deadly warriors. They must stop the other two ancient guardians turned evil, the space dragons, in order to find out who is really behind this upsurge in the enemy's power.
Once again she must come out swinging, to bring destruction to evil that lurks in the darkest corners of the universe.
JUSTIN SLOAN wrote video games before becoming a full-time author, with credits on such games as Game of Thrones, Tales from the Borderlands, Walking Dead, and Marvel and mobile games. Now you can find his military science fiction and space superheroes books on Amazon, KU, and Audible.com. He taught Muay Thai kickboxing and Marine Corps Martial Arts, and can play three songs on the bagpipes. Justin holds advanced degrees in international relations/economics and creative writing. Oh, and he acted in movies for a bit - all small roles though.
This latest stellar offering by Justin Sloan is a sure-fire winner for every all-action, apocalyptic sci-fi fantasy thriller fan - it's a must-buy bookshelf treat that engages the reader in a visceral, all-absorbing way, that won't let you put it down until the very last page - I loved it and I'm sure you will too!
There are several feisty female protagonists in this epic story of the Shadow Corps' ex-Marines Team and that is no bad thing; they are balanced perfectly by strong male characters who work, fight and relax so well together they are like members of an extended Galactic family, despite their disparate planetary backgrounds. Once more Earth and its allies, (past, present and prospective) face the evil of the Great Deceivers; they use the Syndicate control of Arzana, to drain power/energy from its captured citizens' crystal implants and control the Elders on Entono Fos, where the story begins. Samantha is leader of the Shadow Corps; an ex-Marine she has been mentored and trained by Hadrian - a powerful Elder of the Entono Fos ruling council. Samantha's Mother was also a Marine, seemingly lost forever after vanishing during a battle to protect Earth from the power of the evil Syndicate. She never knew her Father and dreams Hadrian may secretly be the one because of the special weapons and mental training he gives her alone. Samantha's team consists of Dex - an AI who can read her mind and communicate telepathically (as can Hadrian) - and gave the young warrior a healing cloak like his own, that conceals her from enemies and is a powerful defense system that interacts with her armour. Also Ferder, an Eliolation, Jackal - skilled pilot of the Noraldian spaceship, named after Hadrian's late wife Nora, Napalm [who has issues with his father whom he hates for the abusive upbringing inflicted on him], Agathe and Voira who are Acome, Kwan and Carma, the Arzanite female who [like her fellow Arzanians], can manipulate and intensify the emotions of those she comes close to.
What is Hadrian's secret and how does it help him escape from Enton Fos and later get help from an unexpected quarter? Who or what is the old adversary that the Shadow Corps encounter and who is controlling it and how? Where does Samantha fight the Snake Woman and how does she survive her injuries? Why do Samantha and her crew have to endure suspended animation in the Cryogenic Chamber; which of them is exempted - and why? When the Team need help from the female Arzanites, what does Hadrian do to convince them he's on their side as well as the men's?
Readers will love the answers to these and more questions which they'll enjoy finding among the pages of this gripping apocalyptic, epic adventure that knocks Star Wars into a cocked hat...and will eagerly await their chance to grab this new and exciting episode in the Shadow Corps/Seppukarian Series...more please!
Samantha and her Black Ops Intergalactic Team of Assassins prepare for the final battle to be held on Earth. After the battle with the first Space Dragon; aka Guardian, they find there are others. The next Guardian will take them, and Hadrian to the edge of the universe; Shadow Worlds. Samantha must be at her best for this next fight. The almost non-existent LitRPG element of the science-fiction-fantasy tale allows Samantha to level up her armor, aka cloak to continue becoming more powerful. Hadrian is temporarily distracted, so Samantha must take charge of the team to begin additional training. Once Hadrian returns, a species commanding mind manipulation within the Shadow Worlds is the target. The Shadow Worlds are also the home of the space pirates who they must avoid at all costs. The team continues training as they travel to destroy more of their enemies. Tess Irondale is awesome.
Creepy alien dudes continue to hit on 16 year old. She makes wishy-washy attempts to stop said behavior (not faulting her) in addition to sending mixed signals due to her unknowingly being sexually/emotionally frustrated/repressed due to growing up fighting in wars. This whole aspect of the story is pure cringe, and disgusting for the author to include. Having characters sexually expose themselves, lustfully stare while licking their lips, etc to this young female just makes me feel sick...and for some perspective, I say this as someone that had less issues with harem books involving [nonconsensual] tentacle porn.
Besides all that nonsense, the book is pretty meh overall, but enjoyable enough to finish and start the next one.
This might be one of my favourite series from JS yet as the action, Intrigue and plot development makes this a great read. I am a bit worried as it looks like there is only 3 books of this particular series which im hoping is expanded as i think Sams adventures deserves a lot more books and I'm liking a lot of the other characters where maybe a back story would be helpful. Great 2nd book and has me eagerly off to the 3rd book
The author does a better job of satisfying my inner me than most. Let's get the negative out of the way. His background explanations need a touch more glue for connections but I'm still good with the writing. I like his imagination and plan to read everything he's put out here!
I enjoyed this much more than the first book in the series. It is becoming a fun adventure through space. The Shadow Corps are trying to improve the universe. It is a ritRPG adventure but thankfully there were only a few small times when it became obvious. Although after listening to more books like this I am more used to it and it does not drive me as crazy as it used to.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and I will hopefully enjoy the future of these characters. Everyone has a different story but they were weaved into a good story line with strong and independent characters.
This 2nd book was just as much fun as the first one. Sam and the corps have much to do and of course they do it in their own unique style. Anxiously awaiting book 3.
