A Soldier’s Farewell…
Septimus is sent to Canada in response to murderous raids across the border by uncontrolled American irregulars who are using the War of 1812 as an excuse for banditry. With the prospect of Bonaparte returning to France, he is called back and sent to the Low Countries to command Dutch-Belgic forces whose mission is to secure the coastal routes should the French seek to reconquer their lost territories. Books best read in series order.

About the ‘Man of Conflict Series'
Youngest son of a wealthy merchant, Septimus Pearce is a spoiled brat, wild and heedless. His recklessness promises to cost the family firm money and harm his father's hopes of social advancement. His father forces him to join the army in an attempt straighten him out. However, even the disciplines of army life fail to completely exorcise his nastier character traits. But his callousness and indifference to suffering sometimes proves to be advantageous in the heat of battle, and he slowly gains the respect of his men. Books best read in series order.

None Better

Andrew Wareham writes the best historical British military fiction that I've found on Kindle. This series has been particularly entertaining, providing interesting detail about many of the battles of the era with humor and historical accuracy.

Cracking series of wars during late 1700s and early 1800s

An outstanding collection of fast paced military exploits leading up to and including the Napoleonic wars. Andrew is a brilliant storyteller.

Andrew Wareham writes one of the best war stories around. Particularly like the series working around the Napoleonic/Industrial Age eras.

A Fitting End To The Series (thus far)

The series has had plenty of action, and I like that. However, what I like most is the anachronistic introduction of modern leadership by the hero. Well ahead of his time, but I liked it. Like the old ‘Duffer’s Drift’ tutorial pamphlet that has taught tactical lessons to uncounted young Army cadets, this book teaches about identifying missions, prioritizing efforts, mission-type orders, and how to appropriately supervise without taking execution away from subordinates. And all of this within a good storyline that provides some tension and excitement. Also, provides political context for the action. The hero isn’t perfect, but you understand why. Worth the time.
