So while being a fan of anime, this is actually the first light novel i've ever read, and i have to say, i really enjoyed it. It reads like an anime so you can kind of imagine how the characters would act and move as if it were playing out before you.

I really enjoyed the anime "Monster Musume" so i wanted to give it a try. And actually, i was not disappointed. So short version, it's about a doctor for monster people. i know, shocking right? Basically it's a world where humans and creatures like naga, centaurs, harpies, etc, exist and the main character is a human doctor who treats them.

It gets a little fanservicery sometimes, but it doesn't go TOO far most of the time which is nice. The book is broken into several stories, each involving a different type of monster, with the final story culminating with all of them teaming up.

Each of the characters' personalities were endearing in some way, and i enjoyed all of them in their own ways. (the naga girl's a LITTLE annoying, but not nearly as bad as the naga from monster musume)

I also really enjoyed the fact that there's no death in this. Basically everything is solved through doctoring and while there is some action, there's also a lot of talking and understanding the bad people's point of view which is nice. They don't just murder everyone. which i appreciate.

Pretty much the ONLY real gripe I have with the book is the doctor's age. They made him 17 years old which is kind of ridiculous. He's supposed to be a doctor. like a full fledged doctor. A doctorate takes 8 years normally. so maybe making the doc fresh out of med school would be fine, but at least make him like 26. Even if you're trying to say "well it's olde timey" and you want to stretch the age, then at LEAST make him like 21. 17 is WAY too young to be a doctor.

That's really the only problem i have with the book. I had a LOT of fun with this book and i'm definitely going to buy the sequel.

4.5/5 rounded up to a 5.

This is basically as close to Monster Musume fanfiction one can come without running in to any copyright issues.

I actually really liked the first half of the book. It was super light hearted and perfect for the mood I was in. Then it gets a bit more serious and action filled and I kinda lost interest in it.

This is a weird one for me, kind of a mix between 3 and 4 stars.

On one hand, it is more like an anthology of short stories where the protagonist goes through a small adventure and there is an over-arching storyline that combines all of them. This works well for this type of story, each story being one patient. But on the other hand, it chops it all up and in many ways breaks up what could have been a continuous story quite easily.

I read a couple of other reviews that had issues with the age of the protagonist, which surprised me. It is a light novel, so thus aimed at a younger audience, and there is a certain amount of suspension of disbelief to the story. (monster girls people, monster girls...) It actually didn't bother me at all, though the weird relationship between him and the lamina nurse felt... odd. There was supposed to be a kind of chemistry between them, but it just never felt that way when reading their interactions. I was disappointed by this, as it felt forced, and you never want a relationship to feel that way.

There were some other moments that were a bit too awkward, like the feeling up of the mermaid's gills. Having fished, I know the texture of gills, and I can't imagine just how awkward it would be to have someone stick their fingers in what equates to your breathing method. The fact that there was artwork included of this act... yeah, super awkward. More so by the young representation of the mermaid in said art.

But, despite all that, the overall story was a nice one. I enjoyed it and the way the author brought all these monsters together into a city. His inspiration was much the same as my own when it comes to monster-people, and that was inspiring. The writing was also fairly strong, and the editing was handled well, which made this easier to read than some other light novels.

All in all, if you like monster-people, this is a book for you!

What started off has a silly book turned into something more serious and wonderful. Though was may seem a little lewd at time the Doctor in this books is simply devoted to being the best doctor for monsters that he can be.

An enjoyable read, I would recommend this book to any anime/manga fans.

I was stopped in my tracks recently while searching for an image to share in my 2024 annual roundup on Goodreads. I found not one, but an entire series of mangas that combine three of my most profound obsessions: Monsters. Girls. Doctors. The closest I’ve come to experiencing this sort of nirvana in real life was being straddled by my statuesque Korean ophthalmologist, looming over me while twiddling the little lens machine and affording me an alluring, if blurry, peek into her cleavage. Sight unseen, I immediately ordered the first three volumes. I was surprised when the package arrived and contained three actual novels. While the visual appeal of mangas was missing, these longer books, at over 200 pages each, offered actual sustained entertainment, along with a few manga-like illustrations scattered throughout. Joy, joy.

Ahhhh, but the joy was tempered somewhat when I realized the main character was not a doctor who happened to be female and monstrous, but rather a male human doctor who treated girl monsters. Dr. Glenn looks like a typical Japanese manga character, with big blue eyes (?), a pointy chin and mop of tousled black hair. But some joy returned when I realized there is a monster girl pharmacist working alongside him. She’s a lamia, which I learned is a human-snake hybrid. Being an albino, she’s covered with dazzling white scales, viewing the world through albino-pink eyes and a shock of platinum hair.

description

The anterior segment of her ten-meter body terminates in a distaff figure with attractively striated rectus abdominus muscles and massive breasts. (For the remainder of this review, I’m not going to type “massive” every time breasts are mentioned; it should just be assumed. In fact, “massive breasts,” in this review, should be considered a single two-word concept, like Rogers & Hammerstein or Veuve Cliquot or Fabry-Perot.) A question arose in my mind. Not the question of why a snake would need breasts in the first place -- the idea of little baby snakelets clamped onto her nipples and swinging around like an exotic dancer’s pasty tassles is nearly as disquieting as the piglet-suckling cover photo of Tori Amos’s 1996 album Boys for Pele.

No. My question is, what would a breast covered in scales actually feel like?

In retrospect, I should probably have talked things over with the missus before trotting down to Michael’s Craft Shop and procuring a hot glue gun and cellophane packet of sequins. And accosting her as she stepped out of the shower, waving a smoking glue gun around and flinging fistfuls of sequins at her wet skin was admittedly a tactical error. So, for now, this is a mystery that remains unsolved. The burns in my crotch area are healing nicely; thanks for asking.

This snake-woman-pharmacist, by the way, is named Sapphee. But if you assume this name unsubtly foreshadows some hot girl-on-girl action, you’ll be disappointed. Like all the other girl monsters in this book, she has eyes only for Dr. Glenn. But the good doctor is so absorbed in his work that he fails to acknowledge all the eyelash-batting, chest-thrusting and soft mewling squeals directed his way. Sapphee has a jealous streak; this creates a conflict between her desire to help her patients and to keep their hands, paws, hooves, ovipositors, gills, spirochetes, flukes and whatnot off her man. She is not above wrapping up other monsters boa style and forcing them to fellate the tip of her tail when she feels her place in the monster-babe hierarchy being threatened.

It was two cellophane packets of sequins, if I’m honest. I don’t want to sell Mrs. LCJ’s physical assets short.

This started off promisingly perverted. Already by page two Glenn was reaching into the cowhide bra of a minotaur who felt pain in her breasts. (Given that minotaurs are half-human, half-cattle, the leather undergarments add a distinct element of creepiness to this scene.) Nothing if not efficient, he brought her to orgasm by page five. Surprisingly, he achieved this by fondling her ears. I appreciate the heads-up on minotaur physiology; one never knows when these sorts of facts will come in handy. But after this, the author seems to believe we actually care about the plot, which has something to do with bandits and human trafficking in monster eggs. Which I suppose means it isn’t human trafficking at all. I’m so confused!

Of course, there’s a lot of medically-necessary palpating and digital (by which I mean “fingers”) temperature-probing along the way, but this is a peculiar sort of sex fantasy. This fuels the dreams of men who enjoy the thought of making themselves unattainable to large numbers of adoring lust-crazed females, which I suppose gives them a feeling of power. As for me, I prefer a complete lack of mastery over my own desires.

My review of Vol. 2 can be found here.

While the story clearly has been inspired by Monster Musume (as the author also states in the Afterword), it is very much a story of its own. It is a monster girl story with the harem and ecchi elements that come with it, and for the most part fairly typical monster girls at least in volume 1. There is enough to set it apart to be a very entertaining read for me though.

First of all, it is set in a fantasy world of its own, and the monster girls are part of normal races with monster boys so to speak even though the main characters besides the MC are all monster girls. The doctor approach is also intriguing, having the author at least think a bit about monster biology even though some things still make me wonder if given it a bit too much thought. The ecchi is also not the typical accidentally walking into the girl getting dressed kind of things, but mostly oddly described honest medical investigation/treatments and even then the art is a the truly ecchi part. Volume 1 is mostly about separate medical cases, mostly as a way to introduce the more important characters and world to the characters, including an interesting city where monsters and humans live together.

It is still very much a monster girl harem story. There are certainly cringe moments, and while there characters are a bit more than their traditional tropes, they are not that well developed. Some of the world building is also a bit optimistic. I doubt that in RL wars peter out or that it are just a few mercenaries that carry a grudge of sorts, or that directing a river into part of town leaves the actual buildings standing (water in RL tends not to be that forgiving). Considering it is a light hearted story though, I personally don't mind that much.

All in all, it was a somewhat surprisingly entertaining and fun read.

If you like monster masume, everyday life with monster girls, you will enjoy this light novel. Even the author states he got his inspiration from the anime and manga to write this light novel. This novel we meet our protagonist Glen and his ever expanding harem of monster girls shall we say more, the story was well written and took place in a monster/human community. Glen was the towns doctor and this basically follows his adventures with various monster girl patients and the overall story of the town and the events that occur within it. Don't want to spoil it but it was a fun and enjoyable read, was the translation from Japanese to English good, yes it was good, this it keep the story flow going yes it did. You will enjoy this story especially if you like monster girls, fair warning if you like monster girls you will see a lot of characteristic plot themes in the cases. Enjoy!

Good book about a human monster doctor and his snake girl assistent. The first 1 to 3 pages depending on which way you are reading the book might be misleading of what the book is about. I suggest starting right after that part as it is not refernced ever in the book. Depsite the title its focus on the scene of a medical place is less so than what the interactions are. The place of the clinic also kinda takes a background to the plot and is rarely used for the plot at all.

Each chapter is like a new story that is leading off of the last one but does not really connect together until the end where all the characters get into one place.

Thanks for a good book

I feel this book is fun and well thought out you may have borrowed some points from a great anime but your detailed writting. Have me excited to read more you are spinning a wonderfully rich campaign. That can keep me wanting new girl monsters and awkward medical situations. So it's harem styled e.r. or dugie housser monster me or mmd😈 keep up the good work.
My thanks

Glen is a human doctor who specializes in treating monster girls. Along with his assistant Saphee the lamia, the book covers 3-4 stories of him seeing various monstergirls, and then ends with them all coming together to deal with a menace to the peace of their town.

It's good, but a little basic, with not much in the way of twists that matter. It doesn't really have the oomph of Monster Musume or 5Beast, and it isn't as slice of life as some other manga. Good for fans of the genre, but not your best introduction to it.

A very big let down. This was very much a reskin of Monster Musume that hardly changed the characters. Not sure what makes it worse, the constant repetition in sentence structure or the blatent mysogyny, specifically with Sapphie, "the assistant". The book made it clear that not only did she learn and surpass the same material Glen did, but they even mention/hint that she did it better than him. She insists though that he be called Doctor and she is never called Doctor, but only the assistant. Needless to say, I won't be continuing the series.

Read this on recommendation, they said it had great worldbuildibg in regards to monsters living with humans and how the both live together. They forgot to meantion that this seems like the start of a harem comedy.

Some of the world building is great. The paragraphs do repeat each other a lot. The ideas are great. It's just not enough to make this book for me.

The main source of humour is that the dr has to touch the women and it could seem inappropriate to bystanders or the women misunderstanding why he wants to touch them. Combine that with the very suggestive pictures.

Thus series is soooo good!! The amount of info and story inside this series is great. 5/5 stars

All I can say is that, this is a great book. I decided to read the since I love the anime adaptation. I do like how somethings are different compared to the book and the anime. Gives it a good refreshing feeling. I'm about to buy the next book right now :). I highly suggest watching the anime first then reading the book. That's just me though. Overall 5/5 for both this book and the anime.

This was a very smooth read, and the characters were pretty fine. I wish that the MC had a bit more of an interesting personality, but what can you do. All of the other characters were pretty established stereotypes and I thought that the medical aspects of the story could have been more in-depth, but I still enjoyed reading. If you like the sound of the story from the summary you'll probably like the story itself. The author is a fan of Monster Musume and wrote the plot while watching the anime, so if you like that than this will be a slam dunk.

I saw the recent anime of this and decided to read the book. It's a fun, fast read. It's in the 'harem' genre of anime with a twist. The harem are monster girls and the guy is a seventeen year old doctor. It's written with a few more cliches than I would like but it's all good fun. I recommend it if you are into anime and manga and want some entertainment. It also follows the anime.

The book is strongest when describing monsters or cutting to POV of featured patients. The good parts got overshadowed by the truly urksome All Female Characters Have the Hots for the 1 Male Protagonist. Blach.

Great for fans of monster girls! I wasn't sure whether to expect a monster girl who's a doctor, or a doctor of monster girls. Turns out it's both! Cute and funny.

Surprisingly serious and dark a times. The author did a good job of making misdirection in what type of monster you perceive someone to be but they are something else entirely. I was surprise they could even get tired but I suspect that was just mental Fatigue and the translation not being clear about it.
Has a Light novel is very fun serious and dark when it need to be. So who best girl you wonder? Dunno there are certain things I like and hate about them. However there is two I really like, Kay and Lorna they are very lovely and willing to do what is necessary. Hope I see more of them.

Now Asterisk. My grammar is not perfect and I do not give a shit about it. However there are slight grammar errors from time to time in the novel. The novel is still readable and make sense but Christ it is noticeable. I bought mine from ebay use and cheap. Not regret.
