This book is somewhere between a 2 and 3 star rating, but I went with two for a couple reasons.

This book takes place predominantly in the Dusk Realm, which we saw a lot of in the previous novel. Though it was interesting to see the realm turn around on the adventurers and to see them strive to fight back against it. It was good to see how the parties cooperated with each other and just how varied they can be.

There were a couple surprises with the other parties. It was nice to that there are older groups out there, though some of the more 'unique' groups were a tad bit unrealistic. I mean, there's one group that seemed far more at home in a BDSM novel, which is just weird and though distinctly anime, took me far out of novel. The added picture didn't help matters either, and seemed a bit at conflict with how the characters were described.

However, because the Dusk Realm doesn't contain much in the form of antagonists, the combat was a bit lacking and repetitive. Even with the added parties and the high tension situations, it couldn't detract that the monsters were the same over and over again. And because the protagonists were aware of how to beat them, it didn't have a lot of danger to it. At least until later, but I won't spoil that.

In the end, this book was just okay. There were some good moments in it, but there are definitely some themes that are starting to become more annoying than anything else. For example, Haruhiro continues to have self doubts and constantly over thinks everything. His party members and their interactions, what path they should take and the risks involved, and his self doubts during fight scenes. So many self doubts during the fight scenes. It feels like Haruhiro isn't growing at all, and that's disappointing this far into the series.

If you have made it this far, you're already invested in the series and you want to see where it is going. Personally I hope to finally see some development in Haruhiro and the rest of the party. I am also hoping to see more of the world and the other creatures in it. It also looks like they are getting closer to finding out what happened to the party to bring them into this world. So I will continue to read this series and see where it goes.

I enjoyed it as there was more world building. At times I wish the author was more descriptive but it was great to read about Team Akira.

I really love this volume of Grimgar Fantasy Ash. I love Haruhiro’s squad dynamic with the Tokkis. We get to see more into how their team acts with each other. Lol, the Tokkis are so unhinged in this volume and I love it.

I also love the character growth for Haruhiro. He’s becoming better as a leader even though he still has low self-esteem. Through the battle scenes you can tell Haruhiro is becoming more better directing people and coming up with decisions quickly. Even Tokimune the Tokki’s leader commends Haruhiro.

”Mimorin’s feelings belonged to Mimorin.”

I also love how Haruhiro deals with Mimorin. His rejection, I think is one of my faves that I’ve ever read. You can really tell how much he thought things over to not hurt her too much.

I also love all the new characters that are introduced. I never knew how much I liked the idea of mentorship. It was a nice read of Akira’s group with Haruhiro’s. Haruhiro’s group doesn’t have that many long interactions with older groups, which was nice to see. It showed that they still have more to learn and they have potential.

”We’re searching for a way back to our original world.”

I also like the author’s foreshadowing with Haruhiro’s group several times questioning about things that are familiar to them but they can’t remember. It really brought back the mystery of what Grimgar fantasy is. This book also delves more into the world building with the introduction of Lala and Nono. With more possibilities of the unknown, the book leaves of at such a good cliffhanger that I couldn’t help myself but to buy the next volume 😂

The books is written in an interesting way. Haruiro has always been super focused in trying to understand his team. However, he's getting tired of it... and then gets his heart broken. From that point onwards, all we see is Haru actively not engaging his team and focusing all his attention on the other teams and how to handle them.
We get a lot more information on Soma's Daybreakers and the other top tier teams in Grimgar. And just how much stronger they are than Haru's "Goblin Slayers". And there is a bit of analysis on how to get strong in Grimgar.
The subtitle of the volume "Towards a glory not worth taking" kind of sums it up. Haru and his team get dragged by the stronger teams into a pointless quest.
The only reason why it lost a star was that it introduces a couple of weird over the top characters once again, upping the craziness in Grimgar :( Really hope the author stops doing that...

Good book.

The story develops as previous chapters. The main character, despite being the leader has the lowest self-esteem I've ever seen. Half of the book is spent in non sense dialogues, the other half get more interesting. In this book the rest of characters are cast aside, not developing in any of them, hopefully we'll see more of them in the next book.

Following the discovery of the Dusk Realm, we have a war there, including some of the most famous teams. We finally see some of the super moves we kinda expect from a fantasy adventure, and it doesn't fail to make our protagonist feel like anything but a hero. Not the best book of the series, but still interesting!

3.9, best book in a long time.

The world building and stakes in this one, even getting back on topic for the main plot of the series ? This volume is one you have to take your time with. I enjoyed that aspect.

It made me see my problems with the last two novels in a different light and I hope harohuro develops from this point.

Following the beats of a standard MMO progression, our heroes find themselves part of a massive raid on the Dusk Realm.

Haruhiro as character just reached a breaking point for me. I cannot fathom the decisions he makes regarding Mimorin at this point.

I loved it. This story and world never stops surprising me. There’s a level of consistency and unpredictability. The characters earn money, acquire new skills, meet new people and can still die at any time. Love it.

Great story

Great story. This book got a much better translation than the last few books. Much easier to read. The story is good and well paced.

The dusk realm is seriously disturbing but really enjoyed the final fifth of the book and the new characters.
