Therapeutic parenting is a deeply nurturing parenting style, and is especially effective for children with attachment difficulties, or who experienced childhood trauma. This book provides everything you need to know in order to be able to effectively therapeutically parent. Providing a model of intervention, The A-Z of Therapeutic Parenting gives parents or caregivers an easy to follow process to use when responding to issues with their children. The following A-Z covers 60 common problems parents face, from acting aggressively to difficulties with sleep, with advice on what might trigger these issues, and how to respond. Easy to navigate and written in a straightforward style, this book is a 'must have' for all therapeutic parents.
This book is fast becoming my 'go to' text when I get asked for parenting advice. It's set out in a really practical way that is easily accessible as a quick reference book. It's helpful to have things in A-Z format so that you can look up the bits you need in the moment, rather than having to wade through lots of text knowing that what you're looking for 'in there somewhere.' The style of writing is friendly and allows the reader to feel that their hand is being held and supported rather than preached at from on high. I will be recommedning this book to parents and teachers alike and probably end up purchasing more copies because I've given mine away. Received from Netgalley in return for honest review.
If you have children or work with them, I would consider having this somewhere close to you. It's a great complement to other books you may have read on the general subject of therapeutic parenting or on a more precise situation
Of course you need to adapt the advices to your own children, and situation. But it's easy to read, give examples with strategies, plus it's in alphabetical order which makes it easier to look things up to find an issue you may have.
Because it's a massive topic, the author does mention that drugs/alcohol/addictions issues are not developped in it but they give a list of books on the subject
The social media part is a bit too old for nowadays. I would recommand looking up elsewhere if your issue is linked to the internet usage
This is it. As a professional, I had a list of books I'd recommend to other parents of kids with childhood trauma. But this is the ONE. It's what I wish I had a decade ago. It's set up in a way you can easily access topics as they arise. Not only do you get the 'why,' but you get some great strategies and tangible ways to support your kids. I already have a list of friends I'll be gifting this book to. Thank you, Sarah, for writing this book.
Honestly this is not a book format that lends itself to audio and if I had realised that I might not have consumed it this way and would likely have valued it more. Also I think on this occasion the author may not have been the best person to do the reading but some useful insight nonetheless.
This is one I’ll come back to over and over. It is one you don’t have to read all the way through, but more like a dictionary or encyclopedia for when you need some ideas or support on this journey of parenthood!
Good book for looking up quick context and strategies around common challenges in raising foster and adoptive children. Not a read for learning as much as one for referencing/reminders.
This is THE book for practical therapeutic parenting. The introductory section was helpful but I've gained the most use from the actual A to Z, which is full of tips, tricks and guidance.
An excellent guide for new parents and current parents. The book approach a therapeutic way to deal or prevent with children difficult behavior. The subject are classed by alphabetical order and contains reference to additional material as books and websites.
