Rate this book
A doomed love affair. An unsolved murder. And a mystery a thousand years in the making.

Sophia knows how to keep secrets, and how dangerous those secrets can be. Her family’s power and position are why people call her the principessa, but that’s also why she’s tasked with investigating a gruesome crime.
Unable to solve the riddles the killer left behind, Sophia reaches out to an expert. Dr. James Rathmann shows up, guarded by modern-day knight Tristan. Both men are devastatingly sexy, wickedly smart, and deliciously protective. Sophia doesn’t need their protection, but the safety she feels when she’s with them is all too alluring.
When clues reveal that this murder may only be the first of many, they find themselves in a game of cat and mouse and passion is put to the test when the killer sets his sights on the three of them.

My Rating:

3.5

Favorite Quotes:

The crowds parted before James like the Red Sea for Moses. Most people didn’t seem to be consciously moving out of the way. They simply saw a large someone coming and moved aside.

But my cousin said they think it’s one man per generation. He passes on the legacy to another… like the Dread Pirate Roberts.

That man was a born politician. He can talk without saying anything.

She stared at the single-serve coffee maker. Why would anyone do that to coffee?

My Review:

Silly me, I was new to these authors and was unaware that I was starting the first book of a spin-off from a long-established series of nine previous books, so it was no wonder I felt at sea and in the need of remedial assistance. This one just wasn’t my cup of tea but I did enjoy the occasional humor and levity as well as the sweetness the characters brought out in each other. The plot was interesting yet complicated and the structure and rules of the featured clandestine organization the characters belonged to were complex and annoyingly tedious. The story was packed with vivid details from their opulent and lush surroundings, to their erotic polyamorous lifestyles, and on through to the gruesome descriptions of dismembered murder victims – yikes. There weren’t a lot of them, but the sensual scenes were salaciously steamy and one character had a fanciful imagination and was prone to naughty daydreams. I most likely would have enjoyed the story more had I been familiar with the previous books, as I frequently felt moronically slow-witted and unable to comprehend the totality of the tale.

Treachery's Devotion is the first book in a spin-off series by Lila Dubois and Mari Carr, which was something I didn't know when I picked the book and made me regret getting my fingers on this release. This duo of authors doesn't make me excited about a book. I couldn't get into the world of Beloved Sacrifice and I still don't understand what is going on after I read the book. It's a mix of medieval and modern times and I got really confused. I know now that this book is a spin-off, but I would have expected some explanation about the way this world works. One second I am reading about Knights and light armor and the other about thermal devices. I know this book is set in an already established world, but as someone who just wanted to begin a new series, I found the book confusing and the thing is that I really wanted to get into this book. I also got the feeling that the authors found two convenient loopholes to make things easier. The guys have barely thought of a menage and suddenly the trio is forced to be together. I didn't like how the whole Tristan thing was handled. I know he is a knight, but he is still human and I would have expected a more human and more dramatical reaction rather than just a couple of lines where he is trying to do the right thing. The only reason I am considering to continue the series is the hint that we might not have learned everything about the Domino killer and I liked Matteo whose story is next. I hope I will be used to the world by the time I finish the second book.

The premise of the Trinity Master’s continues bringing us to the European factor, the original Masters, The Masters’ Admiralty. And, what a beginning it is. Rife with suspense and three unlikely people linked together through marriage.

The story starts with a triple murder and clues that will take three people to figure out. It continues with more murders and concludes with our unlikely ménage practically solving the mystery on their own. I was intrigued and drawn into this story, I was shocked in places and then did nothing but cheer on our three improbable heroes …. Tristian, Sophia and James.

Tristian Knight … a knight for the territory of England. Strong, loyal and demanding. Coming from the streets, he feels that he is unworthy of his title and especially his triad.

Sophia … the princess of the territory of Rome. She’s a legacy, the daughter of the Admiral of Rome and a member of the Carabinieri. After all the years of everyone calling her Principessa, she sometimes comes off as one. Never the one to back down, she’s a force to be reckoned with.
James … coin expert. He’s also a legacy and works at the British Museum. Former Rugby player sidelined by an injury. He needed to find something to do so fell back on to an old hobby that lead to him finding his life’s passion.

Together, they set out on a mission to uncover the killer or killers and, while doing so, find themselves married, helping the Spartan Guard sort out the players in the game, find Domino and find the bind that will hold the three of them together, forever.

I sincerely loved the Trinity Masters and was hoping for more of the same with the Masters’ Admiralty. Unfortunately, there were so many characters that there were times where I felt lost. I understand we have to get all characters, primary and secondary, introduced, get us ready for their stories but, there are a lot of territories and a lot of Admirals to keep track of. I also felt that there were a few inconsistencies and statements made that weren’t explained or followed-through on. But, all in all, I am definitely waiting on Mateo’s story and looking forward to seeing just where everything is going. Remember, the problem with the Trinity Master’s has not yet been taken care of. It will be interesting to see when and how they handle that little problem.

Filled with twists and turns, surprises and unexplained circumstances, Treachery’s Devotion was a thrilling read that had just the right amount of suspense, love and mystery.

Well, hot damn! I’m so pleased that the Trinity Masters series has spun off to The Masters’ Admiralty and continued the excellence of “sit on the edge of your seat” romantic suspense along with fuck hot ménage!

Many of the elements introduced in Trinity Masters are present in The Masters’ Admiralty including “trinity” of three people brought together through a power match versus a love match. In Treachery’s Devotion we meet Tristan, Sophia and James. A Knight, a princess, and an archaeologist. Three people who have almost nothing in common, but their loyalty to The Masters’ Admiralty and its secrets.

I loved watching the romance blossom between Tristan, Sophia and James. While there was insta-love, it was also a slow burn. Slow because they all had to get to know each other while in the middle of trying to solve a horrific crime. And insta because between the sheets is where they coped with what they were dealing with! *eye brow waggle*

I am a huge fan of the Trinity Masters series and really enjoyed this first book in The Masters’ Admiralty. There were a lot of side stories and a lot of characters introduced, but I was never lost in the story, I never lost focus of what was happening with Tristan, Sophia and James. A terrific star to the series. ~ Missy, 4.5 stars

Treachery's Devotion is the first book in Mari Carr and Lila Dubois' new Trinity Masters spin off series and WOW! Just WOW! It's like Trinity Masters on steroids.

The Masters' Admiralty is the secret society in Europe that birthed the Trinity Masters of America, so the premise of the books are much the same, but this case is breath stealing, heart stopping, murder, intrigue and shocking surprises. And let's not forget another delicious triad.

The long list of new characters introduced, leads me to believe we're in for another fantastic series and if that little tease at the end is any indication, I'm completely convinced.

I highly recommend taking this journey, the authors have done a fantastic job with making this a standalone series, you won't have to (but I'm convinced you'll want to) read Trinity Masters to understand and enjoy The Masters' Admiralty.

This is one of those books where I can’t quite put my finger on what didn’t work. It wasn’t just the pacing, it was that the book felt choppy and parts disconnected from the other. I’ll call it flow.

Anyway, while there are elements I enjoyed, the flow was so choppy i couldn’t relax and enjoy the story.

Treachery's Devotion by Mari Carr and Lila Dubois is the first book in The Masters' Admiralty Series.
The Masters' Admiralty is a very old, very powerful and very secretive organization.
Sophia Starabba is a strong italian woman. She´s career driven and works as carabinieri. Her family is well known and powerful in the organzation.
Tristan Knight is a knight of the Master´s Admiralty, he has devoted his life to them.
And lastly is there James Rathmann, a consultant and historian.
These three very different people are thrown together. Not only have they to solve a mystery and threats to the Admiralty. Oh no, there is more, much, much more.
Let me tell you, I started reading and was addicted to the book after only a few pages.
I connected with the characters and the story.
This story has it all—tension, angst, suspense and heartbreak. I've smiled, laughed, cried and was angry at some point. It is not often I feel so connected to the characters, but Mari Carr and Lila Dubois have accomplished just that. I love the story, the characters and the words.
I give 5 stars, thank you so much Lila Dubois and Mari Carr !

This is the first book in a new series, a spin-off of the Trinity Masters series, by these same authors.  It, too, is about a secret organization, that agrees to arranged menage marriages in exchange for membership.  This book can be read as a stand alone, but there are some references to the books in the Trinity Masters series that would not make sense if you have not read that series.  There is also some things left unresolved, that lead toward an opening for the next book, but it does not end in a cliff hanger (I really hate cliffys!).

Before beginning this book, I wasn't quite sure what to expect.  I wasn't sure if it was going to be similar to the Trinity Masters, or if they were going to take it in a completely new direction.   As always, Mari Carr and Lila Dubois had a few surprises up their sleeves!

What starts out as an investigation, leads to something bigger than Tristan, Sophia, and James could have ever imagined.  They have to figure out how to navigate everything that is thrown their way, as well as do their part to usher in a new era for their organization.

I loved this book so hard!  The non stop action, the relationship between the main characters, as well as the surprises at every turn, kept me guessing from the first page to the last.  There were a few times while reading, that I had to stop, and reread a passage, because I couldn't quite believe what I had just read (in a good way, of course!).  It was an amazing story and I could not put it down.

Mari Carr and Lila Dubois are master's at these stories. Treachery's Devotion is the first in the Masters' Admiralty series (a spin off of the Trinity Masters' series) and thank the heavens above for spin-off series. The intrigue keeps you guessing and wanting so much more of this secret society. Plus you get hot trinities. There is something so enthralling about the bits of secrets and clues you don't realize are clues until they oh so cleverly reveal them - then you want to shout at this writing genius duo for their ability to suck you in and leave you reeling long after the last page.

Although I do read a lot of romance and am willing to try new types of romances, I don't think I've ever read a book/series with menages before and I've only read one romantic suspense, so this was a small step outside my comfort zone. This was a good combination of romance and suspense and it did get pretty sexy *although surprisingly not as steamy (or as often) as I assumed!* and I appreciated that the sex didn't become the plot!

We actually get a lot of perspectives but our mains are: Tristan, Sophia and James. Tristan is a Knight with a shady past growing up in poverty in London; Sophia is the 'principessa' of Rome and her father is the admiral; and James is a former All Blacks rugby player who suffered one of the worst sports injuries of all time turned numismatist. Although they're so different from each other, they're all pretty alpha, with Tristan being the most typically "dominant" in their trinity. I though each of them brought different strengths to their partnership but I liked James the best. I loved his dedication and how he sets everyone at ease with his gentle manners and teasing humour. That said, I didn't really connect with or feel invested in any of them and so I struggled with their romance. It was sudden and forced and it took me until the end of the book to feel their chemistry, so for the most part I thought their polyamorous sex life was just... okay.

Mari Carr and Lila Dubois don't pull punches on the bloodier, grittier and darker side of this book. If you're squeamish, I don't think you'll like this one—especially since the gore of the first crime scene is intense and it's described in detail. As someone who is mildly obsessed with crime shows about serial killers, I actually appreciated that the more "thrilling" aspect of the story wasn't skimped on. Aside from the characters, the high-stakes mystery and murderous plots were probably my favourite aspects of the book! Aside from Dan Brown's books I haven't read a lot of thrillers involving secret societies and conspiracy theories but I was very intrigued by the Masters Admirality and its legacy and operations. I did seem a bit stereotypical (I mean, rich, super powerful people that can get away with a lot) but I did appreciate that not every single person out of the thousands in the society are rich and powerful—a lot are just ordinary people but a lot of them are (supposedly) extremely smart. I did question that part though, as it took our MCs a long ass time to ask a question that I asked at the very beginning of the story. By the time they got around to asking, it felt contrived and it didn't fit with how these characters were supposed to be top of their game?

Still, I'm intrigued by this Domino killer and how they keep outwitting the Masters Admirality, and I'm curious about Matteo's and Cecilia's characters, so I'm looking forward to seeing how their menage plays out.

**Received ARC for a fair and honest review**
Treachery's Devotion is the first book in the Masters' Admiralty series. The book ties into Beloved Sacrifice, book 9 in the Trinity Masters series-- where you meet Tristan Knight. This book can be read as a standalone.
Tristan Knight/Arthur Billings is a knight in the British Territory, when he finds out he has to escort a coin expert to Rome he thinks he is being punished for his hand in helping Wes (Beloved Sacrifice) and he's not too happy. James Rathmann is excited he was get to use his expertise to help with some case in Rome. James is an Ex Pro Rugby player that was severely injured while playing for the All Blacks Rugby team, since he could no longer play, he found an interest in archeology and specifically Numismatics. When they get to Rome they are picked up by Sofia Sarabba/Principessa who is the Carabinieri they will be working with. Sofia is essentially a police officer that specializes in art and artifacts. When Tristan and James get to Rome and are escorted to the crime scene they realize this is a lot bigger than they were led to believe. And from there things will get really crazy... gotta save the good stuff for you to read!!
Wow, this book was chock full of craziness... it was a veritable rollercoaster ride that when it finishes you exit and feel like what the heck just happened. This book not only sets up the series well but also gives you romance, drama, suspense, and a HEA. I had a hard time putting this book down, there was so much going on I just couldn't find a place where I could leave off. I really enjoyed the characters, the sub-characters, the story line. If I had to come up with a complaint, it was I really wished we got a little bit more of this trinity's story.

The ending also doesn't give you closure which is hard to accept. You go through all the angst and craziness but it's not over. At least it doesn't feel like it to me. I'm sure it will probably carry over into the next book but that doesn't help now. That's just a me thing, I like to feel some sort of closure. The book was very well written. And I can't wait for the next book in the series!!! Hope this helps!! Happy Reading!!!

Loved it

Love this spin off series of the Trinity Masters. While Tristan was introduced in Trinity Masters Beloved Sacrifices, the Trinity Masters are mentioned, you don't have to have read that series to read this book, but it does enhance the story of you have.
Tristan feels he is being punished for his failure on his last mission. Sent to escort and protect a specialist on ancient coins to the Rome Territory. When they meet their contract and learn the details of the horrific events, he know he has been sent as a trusted Knight and protector of the Admiralty.

James is a legacy of mixed race. A former pro Rugby player for the All Blacks. (If you don't know Rugby, Google the All Blacks, if nothing else you have to see them perform the Haka) He was forced into retirement due to a devastating injury. He turned to his childhood hobby of coin collecting, which has lead him to his present career as curator of coins at the British Museum.

Sophia is a legacy, and daughter of the Admiral of the Rome Territory.
She is an expert in art and a member of the Carabinieri. When she is brought in on an investigation, she reaches out to James to identify the meaning behind coins let at the scene.

Tristan, James and Sophia fall into an easy comradery, with a big dose of attraction. When they uncover a plot to assassinate the Fleet Admiral, they ban together to present the evidence. When their worst fears are realized, their newly formed trinity, is tested to the near breaking point.

Great story, fast paced and steamy. Loved Tristan, James and Sophia. Can't wait to meet the new Fleet Admiral. Wondering how things will play out with the Trinity Masters, will Tristan be their friend? Can't wait for Metao 's story.

This series is as good as Trinity Masters!

The Masters' Admiralty is the non-American version of Trinity Masters. It's been around since the Black Plague. The head is called the fleet admiral, there are 9 districts loosely conforming to areas. The admiralty of Rome is bigger than Italy and more closely resembles the Roman Empire. The British admirably is bigger than Great Britain, etc. There are vice admirals, Knights, security agents, etc corresponding to positions you may have read about in the Trinity Masters. The triad marriages exist here also, hunting men and women of power, intelligence, arts, etc, that complement each other. In this story a bizarre and ghastly murder has been committed on the property of th Admiral of Rome, his daughter, Sophia, a part of the police of culture and arts, calls upon James Rathmann, a coin expert from the British museum to help decipher the coins clue left behind by the murderer. Since the victims were a triad, and James is a member, the Admiralty sends Tristan Knight, a knight, to guard him, although Tristan sees it as punishment or a nanny job. But it soon takes on a much more sinister cast as the clues point toward an old, old, enemy of the Admiralty, Domino, and the possibility that he might be after the upper levels of the Admiralty! Our trip of investigations runs into several non-believers as they try to convince their bosses of the threat. Tristan runs the risk of being thrown out of the Knights! And then the fleet admiral decides to make this trio something permanent? Can he? Lots of things happening in just a few days! This book keeps you hopping!! Love it!

I wanted to like this book. I love complicated worldstates and secret societies and investigating the idea of people operating on different level to the society around them. Personally, I can honestly enjoy even the more elaborate types of these books where the interior logical conclusions are pretty bizarre when set against the rest of the world. It's fun, and it's usually no worse than a popcorn movie on a saturday afternoon.

But I couldn't do it with this book. The murders sounded interesting! I was intrigued by the idea that arranged threesomes were the norm for secretive elite families (although I really have to wonder about lines of succession or birth rates) but there were so many actively silly bits that were not merely unnecessary, but destroyed my suspension of disbelief. One of the main characters walks around modern London, UK visibly armed with a sword and the authors try to excuse it by saying "Londoners just don't want to get involved." Authors. Authors, please. Not only is it illegal to carry a sword on the streets, but he is walking into a public building full of tourists with their children in tow. In the most CCTV-ed city in Europe. Not only has he been spotted, recorded, and probably uploaded to the internet by at least twelve streamers, but the armed police unit is screaming towards his position.

After a few more moments like these, I had to stop reading fairly early on in the story. Possibly I will return to it at a later date, but right now my bemusement outweighs my interest in the murder mystery. And frankly, I don't care about the characters enough to stay.

Strong start to the new The Masters' Admiralty series (for those who read The Trinity Masters series, this is Europe's hierarchy). Think National Treasure suspense and mystery, with Triad Sexy Romance (M/F/M in this book) and some history mixed in.

We met Tristan Knight, Knight - literally the sword arm - of England's Admiral in the last of The Trinity Masters series as he helped his friend, Wes and his trinity. In this book we meet James, an ex-professional rugby player, who is now an expert on coins with an English museum. Also Sophia, Rome's Admiral's daughter, is introduced here. They meet because of a trinity murdered in Italy. Sophia is an art expert with the local police. Both art and coin clues were left at the murder location. James is brought in as a consultant for the coins. Tristan is there to protect James, but takes Sophia into his care also.

The clues point to an ancient enemy, who has a Zorro-like master, apprentice relationship to abide through the generations. The Domino left clues with the bodies leading Sophia, James and Tristan to believe the Fleet Admiral's (head of all the European territories) life is in danger. No one believes them, so they go to the Isle of Man to tell him themselves.

I can't say more without huge spoilers, but the majority of the story happens at this point. There is more to solve and tons of plot twists.

A new series fashioned after the Trinity Masters series but better because it is actually where they are based on.... The Masters' Admiralty. If you have read the other series you will know what I am talking about. If you have not, no worries. This series is separate unto itself and yes the Trinity Masters are mentioned but our authors of course explain...no worries. Authors did you get that yes there is a S on the end there 2 authors write this as one and you will have no idea that this is not one person writing this book.

This read checked all the boxes for me. It has mystery, intense suspense, romance and oh my can I say sexy read! I pretty much know that I will get a really good reading experience when I read one of the menage books by this duo but this book, set in today's time is even more moving than any of their previous books have been. It had me in tears in places and it also had me swooning other times.
Well, written and hot as the oven set on broiler. I can not wait until we get book 2 in this series. This will definitely be a re-read for me.... There was so many tiny, wonderful details in this book I am sure I missed some that I will need in upcoming books. Best store them in my memory now, for later.

Treachery's Devotion is a spectacular contemporary romance by Mari Carr and Lila Dubois. This is a M/F/M menage so it may not be for everyone. Team Carr/Dubois have delivered a book that is well-written and furnished it with a cast of characters that is, in a word, spectacular. Tristan isn't a legacy in the Masters' Admiralty, but he's proud to be a Knight. Sophia is a legacy and is known as the Princess of Rome, but she's also a cop for the Admiralty. James is an expert on coins and legacy Admiralty. When 3 members of the Admiralty are murdered, Sophia has Tristan guard James when they travel to the Rome territory. Sophia, James and Tristan's story is cover to cover drama, humor, action, suspense and smokin' hot sexy bits. I enjoyed reading Treachery's Devotion and look forward to my next Mari Carr/Lila Dubois book. This is book 1 of the Masters' Admiralty Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.

Treachery's Devotion introduces readers to the world of the Masters' Admiralty which is an old world secret society which unites triads to bring stability and balance to the world. Treachery's Devotion unites the triad of Sophia, Tristan, and James in order to decipher clues and navigate destructive and devastating events that threaten to destroy the Masters' Admiralty. Mari Carr and Lila Dubois brilliantly brings together mystery, suspense, angst, and sexy scenes in Treachery's Devotion. The heartache and self-doubt of the characters are overcome by the unconditional support, caring, and love Sophia, Tristan, and James provide each other throughout their journey in Treachery's Devotion.

Although the Masters' Admiralty is a spin-off from Trinity Masters series, it is not necessary to read the Trinity Masters series to understand the Masters' Admiralty world.

This is the first book in the Masters’ Admiralty series. To be honest, the first 4 chapters were slow to me and I had a hard time paying attention. Each chapter introduces the 3 main characters and in the 4th chapter is when they finally come together and the story finally starts to take off.

Because of the complexity of the story line and the relationships amongst all the different characters, I was a little lost sometimes on who was supposed to do what. Once Tristan, Sophia, and James finally leave for the island, that’s when the book really takes off.

I wasn’t interested in the triad as it was out of nowhere and the chemistry seemed a bit forced. What was interesting however, was trying to find out who the traitor/assassin was and how that would affect this society.

At some point I will probably read book 2, but not in a rush to do so.

This series offshoot of Trinity Masters has a darker more sinister feel to it. There are murders, mysteries, intrigue and betrayals. This Trinity has an Admiralty Knight, an Italian Princess and a former rugby star turned rare coin expert. Brought together to solve a murder mystery thing get complicated when they are suddenly thrust into a triad they weren't expecting. Their bonding period is delayed by a grizzly series of events. Yet they quickly acknowledge their feeling for one another and together they grow stronger.

I thoroughly enjoyed this romance. I was on the edge of my seat several times as events quickly unfolded. The writing duo of Lila Dubois and Mari Carr is quite extraordinary. They provide an excellent reading experience.

These two authors make an amazing romantic suspense writing team. I am completely addicted to the series already! This is book one in the Masters Admiralty series and it features British knight Tristan Knight, scholar and law-enforcement officer Sophia Starabba and museum coin expert and ex-All Black rugby player James Rathmann. There is a slight attraction between these three. With everything going on in the story there’s barely time to see it grow. Fighting an old enemy known only by name has EVERYONE on edge and constantly trying to stay one step ahead, which proves difficult most of the time.

The suspense is OFF-THE-CHARTS AMAZING! The romance is barely there but still fantastic in the grand scheme of things. I’m definitely looking forward to book two!

I cried, I laughed, I ohhed, I aaahhed, I jumped, and I rode every twist and turn.

This book is a spin off of the beloved Trinity Masters series, and while I totally suggest reading them (coz they are amazing and it helps to create the already established world) you do not need to read the stories to understand it.

The back story is going to be complicated and while I got lost a few times on who is who, I think of it like I do the European royalty (if you understand how all of that fits together without getting lost or bow down to you) and story will thrill you and hold your attention for the entire thing that you will forgive them completely. Just like I have.

Now if only I could convince them to give me book 2 now.

This new series by Mari Carr and Lila Dubois is awesome. This first book, Treachery's Devotion, gives the background on the Masters' Admiralty, a secret organization that has existed for centuries. A gruesome murder in Italy brings together the three principal characters of this book, Tristan Knight, Sophia Starabba, and James Rathmann. A bond is quickly formed between the three as they investigate the murders of three members of the the Masters' Admiralty. All signs point to the return of the Domino, a killer and anarchist who plagued the Masters’ Admiralty in the past. This is just the beginning of the shocking events to come in this riveting story. The passion, the intrigue, the incredible writing make this stunning mystery romance impossible to put down. I loved it.

I was hooked on this story from the opening scene with it's three dead bodies, some paintings, and coins all in a cave. Who was responsible for the killings and what was the motive? Sophia feels that the placement of the coins may have a deeper meaning and that they need an expert in coins to examine them.

Thus we have James Rathmann, an archeologist and coin expert, and Tristan, a knight, sent to help solve the mystery. This takes the three of them to the Isle of Man and an audience with the Fleet Admiral who they feel is in danger, even though their admirals don't share their belief.

Loved the action, suspense, romance, mystery, and steamy sex in this book. This is a great start to the series and I look forward to reading the other books.

Lots of mystery and murder. This is the first book I’ve read in the master’s admiralty series. Similar to the trinity masters, but in Europe.
Sophia is the daughter of the admiral of Rome. She’s also an art cop. They find 3 dead bodies in her father’s property and she calls in James an ex-rugby player and coin expert who’s guarded by Tristan, a knight of England.
They’re trying to unravel the murders and clues to who may be next.
There’s sexual tension between them and they wind up getting married. More action and suspense and not as much sex as I’d like with a ménage story, but still kept me interested. We don’t get all the answers, so I’ll have to keep with more books to find out the real culprits.

Treachery’s Devotion is the launch of the new Masters Admiralty series by Mari Carr and Lila Dubois. And what a launch it is!!

If you have read the Trinity Masters series by these authors, the Masters Admiralty is not new to you. Tristan Knight, a knight of England, played a pivotal role in the last Trinity book and now it’s his turn to shine. From England to Italy to the Isle of Man, Tristan, Sophia and James try to unravel a series of clues to a vicious and brutal homicide. As this new trinity comes together, the world that they’re use to is ripped apart.

This is a wonderful first book in the new series. It has the sexiness and intrigue that we have come to expect from the Trinity Masters series, yet it introduces a whole new cast of players and secrets.

This book is just cram packed with information and action. These three characters play so well off of each other. James the facts and history man, who is also an ex All Black (squee!). Tristan goes with his gut a lot like Gibbs on NCIS, and wields a mighty sword. Beautiful Sophia who may be an Art Cop, but is a smart Military Cop. We learn a lot about how the Admiralty works and their different territories. The overarching mystery is a tricky one. The beginning of a trinity is touch and go even for our intrepid trio. Hang onto you hats this story sucks you in and takes you for a wild ride.

Reading the entire Trinity Masters series before starting the Masters' Admiralty books again really gave me an advantage, as far as understanding what's going on here. Both the individual characters and, especially, the concept of trinity marriages; what they mean to these two societies and how they function, stand much more clearly in my mind. In fact, I'm a little envious of the trinities, although I know very well that my own partner and I are too well-established to make a third in our marriage work for us or the third parner. Sigh.
