I only read Queen of Gods by Scarlett Dawn & Katherine Rhodes in this anthology.

I'm highly conflicted by this novel. I am a huge fan of Dawn and the Forever Evermore series is one of my all-time favorite series. If you see my reading history, you'll know that is saying something.

That being said, I was not a fan of any character in this book. Bloodthirsty, evil and vile the lot of them.

Gwynnore's only redeeming quality was her friendship with Adelie and I'm sad to say that I can not go into what happens because it's a huge spoiler. What does happen, that was the final nail in a glimmer of hope I had to connect.

I'm also a fan of the erotic romance, in this, the sex overtook the substance. If you are looking for a straight out erotic paranormal read, this would be the book for you.

Magic and Alphas

Queen of Gods was my favorite of course since Scarlett Dawn is my all time favorite author, and I have to say I loved the collaboration between her and Katherine Rhodes! I couldn't even tell which parts were written by which except I would think the snarky comebacks and badass attitude have to be Scarlett lol. I really loved this story and I am already chomping the bit ready to go and see what is next!

Wow I just loved Grave Stones by Calinda B! It was unique and interesting. I was left guessing until the end about where the story was going. I loved the characters and the story line. I can't wait for the next in the series!

Captivity by Brenda Trim & Tami Julka
I have read all of their books except for the Kindle worlds one. These two authors are amazing. Even though I the Dark Warrior series best, this is a close second.
In this book shifters are being captured and used for their blood. Liv works in a lab and stumbles onto a man chained to a wall being beaten by a guard and a scientist. When she interferes, the guard tries to lurch for her but the beaten man grabs him and kills him along with the scientist. Liv runs away. The next day her boss questions her and then gives her access to the man.
Lawson has been imprisoned for more than two years. They want him to shift into his wolf but he refuses. He believes once he shifts and gives them access to his blood he will be killed.
This story is about Liv's bravery in trying to rescue the shifters. It is also about family and friends being loyal to each other no matter what. This is a good introduction to a new series.

Michael’s Honor Devin Fontain
I tried to read this story but only finished the prologue and up to chapter 4. It appears to be the start of the Apocalypse with the breaking of seals and death. There was just too much for one book. The author started out with a scene of Death, that expands to the four horsemen. Then introduced us to archangel Michael and seven other angels and saints. Next was archangel Gabriel and the hearafter with watcher Honor and another group. After that the kings of the seven deadly sins and their prince sons who are half daemon half human. All kinds of deaths and tortures.
The speech involved is hard to follow at times such as "prithee" or "what must needs be". I had to reread the sentence every time because it felt like I was misreading it. This last phrase was at least six times in what I read. I gave up.
There were too many characters and too much different dramas to follow well. It feels like 2 or maybe 3 books are combined together. Maybe it would come together at the end, but I couldn't force myself to read more. This is just my opinion, you may enjoy it.

Queen of Gods:
Amazingly action packed, this tale kept me happily engrossed in its storyline. A candidate for Queen, the trials set before Gywn are beyond reasonable and downright tragic. I was transported from excited, to intrigued, to being pissed off, and realized yet again this brilliant writer succeeded at her goals! Truly a must read, be prepared to have all your emotions challenged!

Hot, Hot, Hot...

Trim and Julka hit it out of the ballpark with Captivity. The storyline is fantastic with shifter that are being rescheduled on and Liv who is working in the lab but doesn't know. Liv found the captive shifters by existent. She meets Lawson and helps him escape. But his family is still there. Liv and Lawson fall for each other. The story is a fast moving page turner. Read about what happens to Liv and Lawson. Will Lawson save his family? Will Liv manage to save all the other shifters?

This review is for Queen of Gods by Scarlett Dawn & Katherine Rhodes.

I did enjoy this story about the trials that the new candidate has to go thru this in order to be queen but that last test will gut you. Gwynorre has always wanted to be queen and now gets her chance. Gwynorre & Nial have history and now are thrown together to be candidates for Queen & King their hate/lust relationship has me wondering if they both really like each other and are hiding it. I can’t wait until King of Gods is released.

Michael’s Honor by Devin Fontaine

I enjoyed read this story. I love reading about Angels, Watchers and the Underworld. This story held my attention from the beginning and love reading about soulmates Michael & Honor. Can’t wait too read Dante’s Inferno next.

Dark Water by Katherine Rhodes

I absolutely couldn’t stop reading. I was hooked from the start. I love Niko & Betsy. Betsy comes too town with her bf too steal anything they can and then leave but Betsy has a dream that will change her life. Wanting to change her life Betsy meets Niko and knows that they belong together. I can’t wait too read more in this series.

Captivity by Brenda Trim & Tami Julka
I really enjoyed this shifter story. Liv & Lawson I absolutely loved reading about. The chemistry between them were smokin hot. I will definitely check out more of this authors books.

Grave Stones by Calinda B
I really enjoyed this story. I liked that the story left you guessing what was going to happen. Lassi & Cillian, I absolutely loved. This was an interesting story that had me hooked from page one. Can’t wait too read more of Calinda’s books.

The Lunar Effect by C.J Pinard

This was an interesting story of werewolves & Vampires and witches. I liked Ryder & Ayla together but then there is Kellan and I’m torn. With Werewolf & vamps being enemies and now Ayla has a reason to kill the vamp that destroyed her family. This story held my attention and I can’t wait to read more of C.J’s books

A Streak of Shifters by Margo Bond Collins

This was an interesting shifter story that had me reading non stop. Lana, Roman, Drake & Jackson were hot & sexy together and loved reading about them all. Definitely will read more of Margo’s books

Edge of Magic by Catherine Vale
I love reading books about angels and this story was amazing. It’s about angels taking out demons and vampires. Rumor & Jonah had an instant connection that couldn’t be denied. I can’t wait to read more of this series

This is my favorite CJ Pinard Book! I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

I love all the characters in this book! Obviously Ayla is my favorite. But I love Sanja, Beckett, Ryder and Kellan also! I can’t wait to read more about all these amazing characters.

If you’re unsure about paranormal I would definitely say give this book a try. It’s fun and I really think you’ll like it.

If you love paranormal books then this is a must read!! CJ will draw you in from the very first page and you won’t want to put the book down. Then you’ll be bummed you have to wait for the next book. But it’ll be worth it to get more of these yummy characters in your life.

Get start to this series CJ Pinard!!

Sassy and sexy.

I have only read Queen of Gods at the time of writing my review. That said it is worth getting even if it is the only story you read. This sassy sexy story is a great start to the series. Be ready for the cliff hanger ending that will leave you anxious and excited for the next book. Looking forward to reading the rest of the stories in the collection to kick off some new series.

I must say i only read the first three stories.

And not one of them was worth it. Some had unique ideas but all in all it lacked immensely. Either the storyline was ludicrous or the characters were not likeable with their attitude. Or both.

DNF at this point.

Hit and miss.

Let's start with the books that grabbed my attention.

The Lunar Effect: CJ Pinard: such a great story can't wait for the series to start. Maybe work on the fact Ayla needs some type of combat training. Werewolf turned hybrid doesn't make her invincible doesn't make her a badass. Running into danger without thought is just dumb. Please give her a little bit of sense.

Queen of God's: Scarlett Dawn and Katherine Rhodes: I own almost everything Scarlett Dawn I think she is an amazing author so my review may be skewed but not really. This is a series I will continue to read
World building is excellent. Characters are funny and aloof just the way I like them. I hope there is more explanations about the trials and why Gwyn had to do that last one. At least I get why her dad sent her away.

Now for the not fun part

A Streak of Shifter: Margo Collins: This book was good until it got to the end where the heroine had a To Stupid To Live moment and just decided to leave everyone behind to go running in the forest while preggers. No no. I don't like when common sense is forced through written words to go missing from Shifters.

Edge of Magic: Catherine Vale: Let's hope Rumor finds her parents and I can come to like Jonas if he had more depth. Spent way too much time in her own thoughts. Not thinking of her actions and consequences. Questions everything. Not to gain knowledge but just cause. Hurts the feelings of loved ones so she can "protect" them.

Grave Stones: Calinda B: This book was not for me. I spent 100% of the time frustrated with the heroine. The whining...Tell me, tell me, tell me! I will stand right here and wait to be murdered until you tell me! Oh look a grave! Let's go play with that. Oh god he's hot. I'm going to hell with gasoline draws on. Insta-love. But some of this was funny. Not sure if the book was supposed to be. At the end with the Ta-Da I'm like you now! *Raised eyebrow*

Darkwater: Katherine Rhodes: I liked the plot of this. Dragon meets and needs mate. Prophecy in the background somewhere. I may read other books in this series. What I didn't like was the fact it felt as if the characters tried to pass blame on their own actions. For example she really didn't mean to turn into a thief. It's not her. Not what she wanted. Someone else taught her how to do it and she was oh so great at it she just couldn't stop... It's all Wyatt's fault, he made me do it..No just no. By her own words she was a bored middle child and was following the D. Own it.

Michael's Honor: Devin Fontain: I apologize for not being able to leave a better review for this book. I really couldn't get into this story. I skipped around. When I got to Dante I really had to stop reading. It didn't hold my attention but it may be for other readers. This was a DNF for me. Too many "must needs" and "perchance" and being raped by a parent Demon or not just didn't sit right.

Captivity: Brenda Trim and Tami Julka: There is a scene where Liv didn't get the reaction she was hoping for. Please tell me what you thought you would find when Lawson is locked up and chained and beaten? Deprived of food and basic hygiene? She's smelling good eating good and dressed up nice. Her thoughts? Why don't you like me? I brought you clothes!! I would kill Liv as soon as I had a chance. This was a really sad story.

What a great deal. Unlike many boxed sets, these stories are full length. We get a look at all the PNR creatures, Vampires, shifters, witches, Fae, even angels and more. An example of one of the stories is: EDGE OF MAGIC by CATHRINE VALE
Rumor is a protector angel. She patrols with her friend ridding the world of nasty creatures out to hurt humans. She comes by her skills and prowess naturally from her parents who died in service many years before.
I thoroughly enjoyed the world building in this one. The characters, although magic, live very much like the rest of us--well, that is if we had wings, used holy water, spewed fire, and so much more to send the bad guys back to where they belong. Far away from vulnerable humans. They drink in their own bars, not mixing with humans. Although, they have a few tricks many of us would like the day after the night before. Males and females have all the same desires and needs. It is up to them if they act on those feelings.
Rumor met Jonah at such a place. The banter is fun. The missions are dangerous and the heat isn't all from the fire they shoot at the bad guys.
Jonas has an exalted family as well. One she was surprised to discover. The missions they take on now make the ones on earth she was used to seem like kindergarten. Will they return? I am anxious to read the next story to see how their serious mission turns out.
Secrets, history, family, friendship, and love. So much to enjoy. After this one there are seven more exciting stories by different authors. Enjoy.
I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.

This is a collection of 8 full-length, first in series paranormal romance books published October 2017. Below is a review of one of the books as an example of what you will find in this set.

>>> Reviewing “GRAVESTONES” by Calinda B <<<
This book originally was part of the Magic and Alphas Paranormal Romance Collection, which I had purchased, and is now released on its own as the first book in the Blood Stone Trilogy.

Lassi has to go to the village of Ballynagaul to bury Great Aunt Roberta and get the run-down house prepared to sell. The mourners actually didn’t seem to have a very good opinion of Great Aunt Roberta and she heard the nasty comments they made. Father Ward, the attractive local priest in his 20’s, was standing near the coffin and seemed to have glowing seaweed sticking out of the bottom of his pants leg! Perhaps she shouldn’t have had that glass of whiskey at the wake!

All Lassi wants to do is finish up with everything and return to Dublin. But bodies start to turn up and the town has secrets that could be a big problem for her. Strange things start happening. What is going on here? Can she discover who the murderer is? And will Lassi survive long enough to get out of the deadly town alive?

This is a well written murder mystery with lots of magic and other things thrown in to keep the reader on edge and eagerly following the story line. Even the priest has an odd air of mystery about him! Lassi is very likable, especially if you enjoy snarky characters who speak their mind. You’ll be guessing about what’s going on to the very end! The other books are good as well, so grab your copy and enjoy!

This review is for CAPTIVITY by Brenda Trim & Tami Julka only - 2.5 stars.*

I really wanted to like CAPTIVITY - it has an intriguing premise, a proactive heroine, and some interesting twists on the werewolf trope (such as werewolves literally being unable to live without their mates). Trim and Julka also tackle the issue of workplace sexual harassment and assault which is a very timely one given that the #metoo campaign and the Weinstein Effect is still ongoing as I write this.

However, it currently remains just this: promising.

There is no doubt that the main couple Liv and Lawson have chemistry. However, the story feels like it could've been more tightly-paced so that we feel - and not just know - how high the stakes are for Lawson and his kind. As it is, the ending felt a little too pat.

Nevertheless - and I circle back to this word again - it has promise and if it's the start of a brand new series, there will be time and space for Trim and Julka to make it an outstanding series.

* Note: I will be reviewing some of the other 7 books in the collection as I finish reading them, so my overall score for MAGIC AND ALPHAS may change.

I love these sets with all kinds of paranormal romances. This one has some great stories that are not your usual reads. They have complex storylines that are not so predictable.

Michael’s Honor by Devin Fontaine is a great opening story. Michael and Honor undergo so much pain in their pursuit of love. Honor had her life cut short and a new path and Michael has dedicated his long life to protecting humans as an angel. There is a lot of action and some great supporting characters as well. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Dark Water by Katherine Rhodes is another interesting romance. Betsy meets Niko and has a chance at another life if she can save herself from her ex. The story keeps you guessing all the way to the end.

Edge of Magic by Catherine Vale is another great read featuring angels. I have read many books by this author and highly recommend her other books as well.

Grave Stones by Calinda B is a spooky romance that also keeps you guessing. There is a murderer in town and a priest with a lot of secrets.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

Review is only for Queen of Gods

5 stars for this one!

I'm always a sceptic even for my favourite authors so going into this one I was nervous about if I'd even like it.

Weeeeeelll....this book was surprisingly good.. I'm so shocked that I liked it as much as I did!

The story started of a little confusing especially the prologue but don't let it alarm you... even though most things are very vague in the novel and rightfully so because it's so short by chapter 3 you'll get what's happening

Honestly the chapters flew by and by the time you're introduced to the Lords as well as Niallan ... well things get really interesting ... I still have so many questions ! I want answers ! Lol hopefully more quick than March 2018

Any who ...

Read it! Loved it!

Can't wait for King of Gods

Lately there have been a number of slam-dunk can’t-miss anthologies published. Magic and Alphas fits right in with that group. It has several contributions from authors I’ve really enjoyed in the past, so I knew going in that it was a safe bet. Having now read Grave Stones, by Calinda B, and Edge of Magic, by Catherine Vale, all I can say is that the price of this anthology is a steal. Either one of those stories has a value far exceeding the anthology’s price. If the remaining stories hold up in quality this will be a spectacular collection. Even without it’s five stars based solely on those first two tales.

Highly recommended.

This set of paranormal romances is great so far! Some good stories including magic, shifters, vampires, alphas and more. I read Calinda B's Grave Stones, and it was entertaining and a fun read. Lassi is a feisty nurse who has a knack for drawing people to her like moths to a flame. Likewise, she has a way of drawing trouble too. The hot and hunky Father Ward was also a great character, full of mystery and insightfulness, but what is his story? He sure has a lot of secrets. Great read with plenty of wild turns to keep you guessing. I've also started the Captivity, and it's also fantastic so far!

A magical collection!

A collection of new stories that will sweep you up and take you to visit incredible new imaginary worlds. Every story in this book brings a new look at the supernatural. From angels to vampires, shifters to demons, witches to humans. Tales from debut authors and new worlds by authors we already know and love are included. You won't be disappointed when you choose this collection to read. Looking forward to reading the next books in quite a few of these new series!

skimmed a few of the other stories but didn't read enough to keep me interested. I read Queen of Gods and going into it I expected something else I think. I never really liked any of the characters or the whole hierarchy of their world. I only really liked Gwyn and Adelie's friendship but wasn't a fan of how that story line went, can't say more because of spoilers. Not sure if I would check out a second book or not maybe depending on my tbr at the time with hopes that this series gets better but as of now I wouldn't

Of the series and due to time constrains I was only able to read The Lunar Effect, but will read all books in the bundle soon. I have never read any of CJ's paranormal books and this is the first one.
I liked it! The Lunar Effect was is a fast and smooth read. I loved the character Ayla and can be considered a bada** vampire hunter as well as a fast running werewolf. The dual role is enjoyable and I began day dreaming on what it would be like to be a vampire or werewolf. Looking forward to additional stories w/Ayla or tribe members. Tks C.J. for the great read

This combo was one that I was excited to get into with also fabulous authors having written them. Some are new to me too so that was a plus. Each one filled with heat and drama to captivate any paranormal reader. Some though have alot of heat and a bit of story. Science and shifters always sits my blood on edge rooting for the shifters. Werewolf/Vamp Hunter alpha girl now that is one to bite into. Not everyday you have that combo. Can not forget the magic either that will run in some in fact the magic of the writing will takes us away for awhile.

Gravestones by Calinda B

Lassi goes to Ballynagaul to bury her great aunt Roberta and get her house ready to sell. She meets Father Cillian Ward the local priest. All she wants to do I'd get everything settled and leave this godforsaken village as soon as she can. She never expects to get involved in the secrets of this town. She never expects strange things to start happening to her. She really never expects to have feelings for a priest. Is he really a priest or is there something bigger going on here? I voluntarily received an advanced copy of this book for a honest review

I really enjoyed reading these stories. Most authors were new to me with the exception of Ms. Pinard and Ms. Vale. All of the stories were good but lunar effect captivated me from the beginning and I couldn’t put the book down. Just as the title states this book is filled with hot ,male alphas and beautiful, brave heroines. There’s literally action and suspense in every story and some scorching, hot scenes. You might need a cold shower afterwards. You can’t go wrong if you’re a paranormal fan.

I only read Grave Stones by Calinda B and it is a page turner. which will keep you guessing until the very end. Lassie has to take care of her aunt's estate after she dies. Her aunt lived in this quaint mysterious village Ballynagal in Ireland. The town itself which it's secrets is very much a part of the story. Lassie and Father Ward have an explosive connection. Be ready to be surprised nothing is as it seems lol

Queen of Gods Scarlett Dawn Katherine Rhodes

That was a very painful read, I love all books Scarlett Dawn I re read them all the time. I've never read anything by Katherine Rhodes, so it's possible that her added input made me dislike this novella so much. I had to force myself to finish because I thought maybe it'll get better. It didn't and I for sure won't be reading the next installment.

"Darkwater" (The Elemental Dragons Book 1) by Katherine Rhodes is a fantastic read. This is the first time I've read a dragon shifter story and I loved it. I enjoyed Niko and Betsy's story. This is a wonderful start to this series, packed with romance, passion, paranormal, shifters, fantasy, twists and turns, entertaining characters, and more. I can't wait to see what happens next in Pine Valley! Highly recommend to all fans of paranormal romance, shifters, fantasy, and series.
