Trilogy One of the Fate – Fire – Shifter – Dragon series pits Rysa, Ladon, and Dragon against the worst Burners, Fates, and Shifters on Earth—and their own demons. Will their love be enough to keep them alive?
The Fate Fire Shifter Dragon series begins with the Activation Trilogy:
Games of Fate: Rysa Torres stumbles through life as she fights against her ADHD. But when monsters activate a hidden power, Rysa becomes the Fate at the center of an epic battle against a terrifying future—and a world consumed by fire.
When Ladon and Dragon find Rysa, they see the hell a young Fate might unleash. But Ladon quickly realizes Rysa is much more than the daughter of an old enemy—she is his key to forgiveness.
Will they accept the future, or will they break the bonds of fate?
Conpulsio: 79 AD: Rome presses outward. Vesuvius smokes. Ladon exacts a terrible vengeance for an unthinkable act—and sets in motion the unavoidable collision of four people:
Two Fates bound by the rigidity of the past and the arrogance of the future. One Shifter with a gift too vile to use. And a man and a dragon who must save them from the mountain’s smoldering anger—and the weight of their souls’ ashes.
Flux of Skin: Century after century, the need to do battle with with malicious Fates, Shifters, and Burners always won. The world needed Ladon. So he fought. But now he’s left his past, and his violence, behind. He found a new way: A quiet, modern life with his beloved Rysa.
When a vicious group of Shifters rains death down onto everyone he loves, Rysa’s developing abilities turn into a raging cyclone. Her body—and his mind—rip apart. Violence edges back in. But Ladon needs to find the strength to save his family before his rupturing soul destroys everything….
Pop Rocks, a Texas tale of horror: Billy Bare attempts his rock star comeback. Fire, though, has other ideas.
Fifth of Blood: An insane Shifter stole Rysa’s talisman, jacked her body, and caused her abilities to nova. Now, she wastes away in front of Ladon’s eyes and he can’t stop the power that’s eating her alive.
Watching her anguish triggers flashbacks. When Ladon’s soul ruptures, only Rysa holds the cure he needs. But she’s too far away to stop what’s eating him alive.
With the help of the newly-healed, newly-invincible Derek, Rysa runs from the worst Fates and Burners on the planet as she desperately tries to heal Ladon—and herself. Can she solve their problems—and recover her talisman—before the long immortal find their prey?
I previously read these books as individual releases and was addicted from page one. The series is classified as New Adult Science Fiction Romance, but I will tell you... if you enjoy good Paranormal Romance, you will enjoy this trilogy and the whole Fate - Fire - Shifter - Dragon universe.
I absolutely love the uniqueness of this universe and the characters. I simply want more of them and I'm waiting impatiently for the next releases.
This collection of books started off very well, with the first book being excellent but the second and third weren't as good as the first and I also thought the mini books in between were a bit silly. I'm going to write this review as one book because to be honest I got a bit lost off where the individual books started and ended.
The main characters are Rysa and Ladon; Rysa is shocked when her world changes, she is a fate and her activation begins. Luckily Ladon rescues her from the bad guys 'The Burners' and helps her come to terms with her new and troublesome power. Rysa struggles to control her power and the other fates don't help her causing her even more stress.
There are a few secondary characters but I can't say I thought any were particularly noteworthy.
The storyline is fairly original but I lost interest somewhere in the middle. The pacing was OK but with the layout of this book with the three main stories and the little ones in the middle made it difficult to tell where one book ended and the next began.
3 stars I would like to continue with the rest of the series after a break
An urban fantasy in the spirit of The Dragonriders of Pern that will keep you at the edge of your seat the entire series!
Games of Fate
I just finished reading this book and I can tell you that it will be highly recommended from me. This is an author to keep your eye on. The power of her words will take you on an amazing adventure of fates, shifters, and burners with some tasteful romance to keep you glued to the pages. I could not put this book down for the life of me and through it all I was cheering encouragement to Rysa and Ladon to defeat the evil and allow their emotions to fully develop. I was not disappointed in the least which is why I chose to rate this as a five star read.
Rysa begins her journey without any knowledge of who she truly is and the power she can potentially hold. She meets Ladon and his dragon in a time of need and the three of them fight against all odds to beat back the evil that holds Rysa and threatens to destroy them all. The book played easily with my emotions making me angry at any character fighting against them, happy when they finally accepted to fight together as one, and ALMOST...ok, it brought me to tears when Rysa's mother spoke her riddles of forgiveness. It made me laugh when Rysa ponders what she wishes her future could be, her white picket fence and Ladon and Dragon by her side for always. As I turned the last pages I was holding my breath through fear and worry for the characters that I fell in love with throughout the pages. This book held me captive until I flipped the last page.
Amazing work Radcliffe, you have stolen a place among my favourite authors.
Flux of Skin
I have excitedly rated this novel with FIVE STARS! Trust me, it earned every single one of them.
I can't say it enough. Kris Radcliffe has become a new favourite author of mine with this series. Once again she tells an amazing story of fates, shifters, enthrallers, and dragons that you just can not put down. I was sucked right in within the first chapters and sped read until the very last pages.
Rysa, a girl like any of us, gets sucked into an extremely wild world full of the supernaturals we come to love in this series. Just when you think that her and Ladon will have the peace they deserve, the love that is so strong between the two, your thrown into an adventure just as captivating as within book one. Their love story is strong within this book, several steamy moments. And the excitement and action is high as Derek is enthralled and kidnapped and leaves the others with unanswered questions and the goal of finding him.
Rysa is forced to find her own balance as her Fate and Shifter fight for a place within her crowded mind. Leaving her ill and vulnerable. Radcliffe has the amazing ability to suck you into her novel and you just have to flip the pages quickly to find out how it all ends.
Fifth of Blood
“And she’d been right about everyone wanting a piece of her.”
Kris Austen Radcliffe has done it again, another FIVE STAR review for her third novel in a trilogy that I am now such a huge fan of. These books are worth a read. The world she paints is incredibly detailed, easily imagined, and simple to follow. The characters are extremely well built, I swear she must have charts or something because her characters, all of them, grabbed my every attention and I fell in love with them all the moment the series began. Fifth of Blood is no different.
The friction in the beginning of this novel pulls at the reader. Pulls the reader deep into the world that Radcliffe has painted. Rysa and Ladon, the perfect romance between the two begin the novel apart. Your heart aches for them. You keep reading quickly, unable to put the book down, to get to the part where the two lovers get back into each other’s arms again. It captures your attention fully and completely, as you turn through the pages holding on to Radcliffe’s every word in hopes that the next chapter brings the two lovers closer.
Rysa has lost her talisman. Without it, she has lost control of all of her abilities and while apologies for mistakes made in the previous novels are made, Rysa is rightfully angry at the whole situation. She needs her talisman, her man, and her dragon. Just as they start to get close chaos rises and makes everything for them so much more difficult. Truly, nothing is ever that easy, everything has its own problems and the question is, can they rise above? Can they find her talisman before it’s too late? Will Ladon watch another lover perish? “’Rysa!’ Ladon roared Everything remaining, ever single pin and staple of humanity that held together his mind, snapped.” It took me a quick three, okay maybe four, days to read this novel. However, the closer I got to the end, the faster I read and the later I would stay up reading. I mean, I finished this novel last night after drinking TWO coffees just to stay awake long enough to finish the novel. Oh boy, was it worth it.
What happens when mythology becomes reality? What happens when the Roman Legionis make their way into our every day? What happens when your life and your love are on the line? The simple answer is a novel that will quite literally knock your socks off.
Radcliffe’s descriptions are intricately crafted and flow seamlessly through the action of the story. She uses words to create a vivid masterpiece that her readers can walk through right alongside her characters. I appreciate how Radcliffe doesn’t ‘dumb down’ her writing in an attempt to reach a larger audience. She isn’t afraid to use large and/or uncommon words. In all honesty, she uses them to great effect, packing a punch. She also uses formatting to her benefit. Shortened paragraphs here, or an italicised word there draws attention to and highlights certain aspects of scenes for the reader, without them consciously noticing.
She has also created an extremely well developed world that is backed by a solid and well formulated mythological basis. I love how personified the Dragons are, unlike so many other stories where dragons are simply beats. It makes them easy to identify with and relate too, while allowing the reader to see things from their POV. It also allows the reader to fully immerse themselves into this phenomenal world.
Character growth in these novels is astounding. Although we’ve met most of the characters in the first novel in the set, many change in leaps and bounds throughout. That said, there is a cause for every change. Nobody ever has an unexplained personality change. Character development, although tied directly to the plot, is phenomenal and you really get to know them throughout this novel. It was really nice to see a cast of characters that didn’t remain stagnant. The new characters introduced are also quite well developed and help to round out the cast as well as further the story.
As a master storyteller Radcliffe merges myth with reality, history with the present, romance with action into a story that one cannot help but love. This series was an emotionally intense and a wild ride. It brought tears to my eyes but also left me laughing. It is definitely a must read series.
We start off by meeting one of the main characters Rysa. She has ADHD. My son has this condition and I have to say that Kris Austen Radcliffe handled the description of how it effects the person with aplomb. It saddens me to see reviews where this character totally annoyed them (although totally understandable). This is the prejudice my son faces on a daily basis, the sad thing is, he knows it too just like Rysa. I'm amazed and humbled that Kris wrote so sensitively about the condition, how it effects its sufferer and I instantly fell in love with Dragon and Dragon-Human (Ladon). Although he comes with his own demons (and they are very in-depth and scary) his way of healing is through Rysa and her love of him and dragon.
I have read this whole series now and I'm not going to comment on the other trilogy just yet as I don't want to spoil it for the reader, however I have to admit that the story is so intricate I'm not quite sure how Kris kept up with the many subplots going on behind the scenes. What I also loved about the series is that the second trilogy interacted with the first, so some of what was in the first book you kind of wonder why it's there, then you read the second series and KNOW why it was mentioned in the first trilogy.
I have to say that this whole series captured me from the start and I loved how Kris Austen Radcliffe filled in the missing pieces by producing novellas of the other characters. I wasn't really interested in Billy at first and when I got to the chapter on how he was turned I almost skipped over it, but I'm so glad I didn't. I realised that he didn't have a choice and he was not really evil just turned by a mad man. That started me on the path of looking deeper into the character, then he met Rysa and everything changed. I began to really like this character and found him amusing in the end.
I have already recommended this series to my friends and will continue to do so. I LOVE it.

Activation Boxset includes the first 3 books of kris Austen radcliffes Fate-Fire-Shifter-Dragon series. These are Games of fate, flux of skin and fifth of blood. Also includes novellas Conpuslio & Pop rocks.
The story revolves around Rysa Torres as she tries to combat her attention deficit disorder and anxiety issues while studying at college when she becomes entangled in a supernatural world that exists side by side with the only world she knows. She is thrown right into the thick of things when she is attempted to be kidnapped by burners only to be rescued by a dragon. We then learn of the Fate-Fire-Shifter-Dragon universe and watch Rysa attempt to fit into this new world and the trials and tribulations of her experiences. Experiences many ups and downs Nd faces imminent danger more then once. Navigate this new world, understand it and her place in it. What I really loved was the originality and depth of Radcliffes created this universe. I love her version of shifters, burners, fates and especially dragons. It's a nice step away from the usual PnR involving vampires, wolves and the like. I also liked the diversity of the characters that Radcliffe provides throughout the series.
I was gifted a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.
