Corinne Owens had everything going for her - a great job as a vet tech, a best friend who would do anything for her, and the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with. The day she confronted him with the news she had received, her world came crashing down. Now, bearing the scars of that day, along with mourning the loss of her baby, she deals with an aversion to touch, and goes through her days a shadow of her former self. Until Reese comes along. His commanding yet gentle presence gives her the safety net she needs to heal.

Reese Thomas is the President of The Black Tuxedos MC. A former Marine, he came home shell-shocked, dealing with PTSD. He was a hit-it-and-quit-it kind of man, one who has never wanted just one woman until the day he met her, his “Slugger”. He sees the signs with her and encourages her to seek therapy. Together, they navigate the oftentimes tricky issues she deals with and he has vowed to wait as long as it takes.

With an ex serving the rest of his life behind bars, will Corrie be able to heal enough to allow Reese into her life? Meet The Black Tuxedos MC and the ladies they love.

What an amazing story. I loved the H so much. He's one of my favorites. Safety: the h was beaten pretty badly by her ex and miscarried. That's the only om drama. Perfect read.

Corrine Owens was betrayed by the man she thought she would spend her life with. Now she has restarted her life but she continues to have aversions to being touched. When Reese Thomas enters her life he becomes her closest supporter. Reese wants to build something with Corrine and plans to be as patient as need be. As they begin to get closer the threat from her past resurfaces and Reese is determined to keep Corrine protected but will she be able to push past the pain of her past to have a future?

I really enjoyed the pacing of this story. Reese is terrific when it comes to Corinne, she is a woman struggling to find a new normal and wants Reese in her life but she fears she is asking too much by having him wait. Reese wouldn't trade his time with Corrine for the world, she is his everything. A terrific way to start the series.

DNF!!! 37%, 76 “slugger”s and 146 left. I just couldn’t do it. The story isn’t bad, but it’s boring and the characters are meh. And if I had to read “slugger” once more, I’d scream.

I felt for Corrie at the start of this one. Hanging on by the skin of her nails and then out for drinks with her BFF and looses it, for good reason, but still. This actually happened to be a good thing because it brought Reese into her life. He was instantly intrigued by Corrie, learned her past and knew if he wanted anything with her, he needed to play the long game, gave it a seconds thought and was all in. I liked seeing Reese build Corrie back up, being by her side every step as she claimed back what she took for granted before and find her life so much more now. It made the ending all the better!

A great beginning to the series.

This is the 1st book in a new MC series by Darlene Tallman. I enjoy her writing, and have read almost everything she has written. Let's just say Reese did not disappoint. If you are looking for the lighter side of MC than Reese is the man for you. That doesn't mean they do not deal with some rough situations because they do. It just means there isn't any OW drama.
Now on with my review.....
Corrie is a woman who has been through a very dramatic experience. Her ordeal has left her scared in more ways than 1. Reese being a strong alpha man steps up to the plate and helps her in anyway he can. Along the way they find love and Corrie finds just what it is like to have a real mans love and affection.

nice romantic read

Every so ofter you need those reads that are a little slower and just flow nicely. I do prefer my MC books with a bit more grit but after a migraine these books are far easier to read as they take less concentration. The storyline is easy to follow and just works and the characters seem genuinely interesting and people you would love to know. Anyone can read this so don’t let the fact that it is an MC book put you off as it is basically a romance with a little MC. Does have what some would see as a trigger so read the blurb.

Good

This is one of those sweet stories that you want for yourself it was great. I did call it tho when it kept repeating to never forget to wear your cut you knew something was going to happen and she was going to forget it. But it was good and there was a bit where I think I saw where the next book could take off well have to see

Reese

What a great book. I came across this book and downloaded it a great MC read. Touching on some great problems with real life characters. Can't wait to read more in this series.

Corrie is a sweet woman with a traumatic past.  After a horrible relationship ends tragically, she is afraid even to be touched.  Reese is the president of the Black Tuxedos MC, and a former Marine.  He has his own set of problems, that play a part in keeping him from being in a relationship. When they meet on a night out with their best friends, there is an immediate connection.

Reese is such an amazing guy!  He is supportive, and loyal, and right from the beginning, puts Corrie's well being ahead of his own wants.  Corrie is such a strong woman.  What she went through would break the spirit of a lesser woman.  Instead of folding in on herself, she does what she has to do to move forward.

This book has everything that I've come to expect from Darlene Tallman:  a strong heroine, a sweet hero that makes his woman the center of his world, love at first sight, and enough drama to keep it interesting.  This is a great MC book, steamy and action packed, but still a sweet love story!

I wonder if this wasn’t a difficult book to write. It deals with a tough subject, the aftereffects of abuse. Many books use abuse, particularly of women and children, as topics but few deal with what happens to the victims who suffer the aftereffects. This book does, and in a realistic – if tough to read – way. Ms. Tallman does a good job bringing the reader into the world of aftershocks, when the victim (Corrie Owens) must deal with having been horribly beaten and now cannot stand to be touched without going into a catatonic state.

Reese is the president of the Black Tuxedos MC and has suffered his own PTSD after serving in the Marine Corps. His empathy and depth of understanding is such that he readily enters treatment with Corrie. He stays near her, a strong protective presence who does not touch her, but waits for her to be able to touch and be touched again. This happens slowly, which is appropriate and unusual in this genre where everything must happen quick-quick-quick.

This is not the usual biker fare. It has a depth that is not present in most biker books. It does not make the book better or worse, just a bit different. At the beginning I was curious how the writer would bring in intimacy with a character who cannot abide touch, but she does and the way it happens makes sense. I think it is the dialog among all the characters that differentiates this book.

The supportive people in Corrie’s life are well depicted from her bestie to her therapists, and of course the love in her life, Reese. The bad guys are definitely that and get their comeuppance as well they should. I like it when the bad guys are made to pay their dues. [don’t we all?]

Touch therapy, and in particular cellular memory, are interesting concepts that have had mixed reviews. I don’t believe any formal studies have been done; most is anecdotal involving transplanted organs. However, if it works for even a small handful of abuse victims, then I – for one – am all for it. Within the framework of this book, it works well.

The plot is straightforward and one we’ve read before but Ms. Tallman does a good job with it. The characters seem real and the dialog feels genuine and authentic. While the topic of the book is sobering, it is well written and definitely a worthwhile read.

Dnf. Too many mistakes and the writing is clunky.

I really wanted to like this book, but I really didn’t. Too many mistakes and if he called her Slugger one more time, I was going to scream. He calls her it repeatedly in a sentence. Slugger, you’re doing really well, don’t give up Slugger.

Corrie has been badly beaten by her boyfriend and lost her baby, when she meets Reese through his best friend. Reese is the president of The Black Tuxedos Mc, and he’s also a retired marine. When he sees Corrie he sees past her ptsd and sees the woman he wants. He encourages her to see a therapist about her trauma and she hates being touched. It’s all really sweet. Too sweet.

I really respect what the author tried to do with the Mc being really different. But it doesn’t feel like an Mc. Then there’s the mistakes.
Porter is seeing Corrie’s best friend and they move in when Corrie is going to trial, for her ex’s attack on her. Along with Reese. A few weeks later Porter says to Reese that he hasn’t seen him. Erm??? Are they not sharing the house still? It is an Mc, what happened to church? How has he not seen him?
Corrie says the therapist is helping her to see that all men aren’t bad. Then the next chapter it’s her first appointment with the therapist. Corrie buys a huge plot of land with a house on it, that’s been completely remodelled, for ten thousand dollars!!! 😂😂😂😂 Yeah of course. Then there’s the fact that they both don’t have their own chapters. So it randomly skips to the other person, and it’s really confusing.

I was really sad to give up on this, as I loved the plot. It’s just really not good.

Darlene Tallman, once again, does a remarkable job with her series, The Black Tuxedos MC. We met them as secondary characters in her Poseidon’s Warriors MC series. In this first book, she focuses on Reese Thomas, the President, and Corinne “Corrie” Owens. As a former marine, Reese suffers from PTSD. Destiny brings into his life, Corrie. She like Reese suffers from PTSD; however, her trauma stems from the abusive relationship with her former boyfriend, Jefferson Maxwell. As Reese and Corrie work at building a relationship they combat their bouts of PTSD. Will they be able to heal? Can they grow stronger in their relationship? Is happiness in their future? Will Maxwell continue to wreak havoc in Corrie’s life? You must read this book to discover what unfolds.

Like the other books in Ms. Tallman’s biker series, her readers continue to witness familial love, team camaraderie, romantic love, betrayal, endurance, the rebuilding of trust, and healing. Once again, she masterfully crafted rich dialog, both conversational and internal monologues. Her descriptive scenes pull her readers’ attention into each scene. In this series the lead characters all suffer from PTSD, and I applaud Ms. Tallman on the way she respectfully illustrates the collateral damage of this illness. I also appreciate the way she offsets the heaviness of the emotional scenes with the banter of her characters as they navigate each day. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

Way too long

This book started out in first person and oddly transitioned in to third person. I knew from reading the blurb that Corrie suffered a trauma so I figured that some time would be dedicated to her healing. However, it took way too long. Corrie and Reese were kind of together from the beginning but not really. The couple didn't become intimate until around the 50% mark which was frustrating. After that, the author started skipping ahead a little bit and I wished that would have happened in the first half of the story as well. The use of the nickname "slugger" was annoying, occasionally he called her sweetheart or babe but it seemed like every other sentence it was "slugger". Another thing that bothered me was we never got any interaction with her parents or his mom. They were talked about briefly but never introduced in the story, and you would think that with everything Corrie went through, her parents would be concerned enough to check in on her regularly.

Reese is a story about a women who goes though an horrific relationship and finds her light in the Pres of The Black Tuxedos MC. Reese is properly the sweetest and most patient Male I have read to date. He stood jy her from the beginning. Darlene writes a story about healing, finding love again and inner strength.
The thing I didn't like was the back and forth between POV's...at times it would jump from female leads POV to male leads POV and then sometimes 3rd person. At times it would change from paragraph to paragraph. I had trouble staying with the story.
Overall I loved the storyline and characters. I will be reading Nick because he is Nicky from Tallman's His Firefly story. Very cool she is giving us the grown up Nicky!! Happy Reading!!!

An epic upbeat love story

Resse, what can I say about him besides he has the patience of a saint when it comes to his "Slugger". Corrie hasn't had the best luck when it comes to men. She has been left with scars both inside and out. She manages but just barely and how is that living? When she is forced to go out one night by her best friend her life changes. Can she learn to trust another with her heart? How can she have a relationship when she can't be touched? This story is cleverly written with sass and plenty of emotion. The characters have an interesting list of mock nicknames that are sure to cause a laugh or two. I cannot wait for the next in this series!

Nice story

First of all, the plot was nicely thought up. It's not a writing style I'm used to reading but that's not to say it was not good. I chose 3 * because there seemed to be more of a love story then an actual MC storyline. Not that it wasn't a great story about an alpha male working to get his "ol" lady. But there was hardly any real "biker" plot like most mc reads have.
The healing process also seemed to be missing grit, anguish, reality like emotion- to me at least.
But I am still waiting in line to read the second book because this author does seem to have a nice writing idea and storyline.

An engaging MC romance read

Corrie, a vet tech, meets Reese, a tattoo artist and MC prez, at a bar when she is out with her best friend and best friend’s man. As the story progresses baby steps are taken, support is freely given, and the rug gets pulled out from under them just when things start looking up. Darlene Tallman’s Reese is an engaging MC romance read featuring honorable military members that formed a MC when they were discharged. Each of these characters brings the own baggage along for their trip, some heavier than others, but makes a conscious effort to work on lightening the load.

Enjoyable MC Read

I had a little trouble getting into the story bc it switched from first to third person before settling on third. Reese & Corrie are great characters & I really enjoyed the story overall!

Corrie has some traumatizing history to work through, & Reese is there every step of the way. I loved the progression & pacing of their relationship! The sense of family within the club is also fantastic. There's also quite a bit of steam once our love birds reach that stage.

Over use....

The term “slugger” has never annoyed me more than In this book, if that term could have ever been overused, it was in this book! Truthfully, because it was used so much, it honestly took some of enjoyment outta the book. I would have honestly enjoyed this book if it weren’t for the word “slugger” every other flipping sentence!
I’m fixated on it!
Reece is an amazing man, patient, caring, and apparently loves the word slugger. I love the level of patience and love he showed Corrie during her healing. Corrie was strong and resilient.

Reese and Corrie

Wow I really enjoyed this story and the way it was written to show how alpha motorcycle men can have unbelievable soft and gentle loving hearts to their one and only loves. Corrie has a great career as a vet tech and a beautiful heart and spirit and I was really happy to see her heal from her abusive relationship before she met Reese. And her love for animals was a great idea with her building a sanctuary for them until they are adopted into loving homes. I adore the tattoo that she got on her shoulder for Reese's peace. Happy reading.

Great!

I chose this rating because this was actually a pretty good book. I really enjoy most of the characters. This was a book of betrayal, abuse, compassion, and revenge. I really enjoy this book I think Reese was a very patient man with Corrie. She had gone through such an awful experience with her last boyfriend. I think Reese and Corrie made a excellent couple. I believe they both needed each other at that time in their lives. Great read! I recommend this book to all romance readers and MC lovers.

Good book

But.... The wording was a bit too stiff. Too formal. For an MC book, I'd have used more contractions, less 'proper English' and been more relaxed and real with how characters talked.

I'm all for a complete sentence and good grammar but.... I use y'all and howdy and contractions. I would more likely say 'she'll be home soon' than 'she will be home soon.'

But overall, a good book with a good plot.

Loved, Loved, Loved this book

Wow..........what can I say.
I was pulled into the book from the beginning, found myself trying to work out in my head what was gonna happen next, I have to say I was wrong every time.
This book has me laughing, crying, frustrated with a couple of characters but I forgave them lol.
This is absolutely a must read for MC.
Darlene Tallman has penned on heck of a book, I personally want to thank her for sharing it with us.

Good story line

This book was I'm going to say good, not great just good. I had a problem with the text going from first person to second to narration. Sometimes I had to re-read to understand because it kept changing. Other then that the story line was good , I would have liked for Reese to call her something other then Slugger through EVERY chapter. I get that was his nickname for her but it was a little over done.

Dnf corny syrupy mills boon yuckness!

Had to stop reading at 24%. For a biker mc book this is nothing but mushy hallmark romance.

Yes there was the initial incident with her ex but other than that its just beyond smaltzy.

Insta love, incredibly bad corny dialogue and boring already. I mean come on she just happens to buy the grounds n 4/5 bed house for 10k n its a perfect inside?

Nope not for me, if I wanted this kind of romance I'd watch a hallmark movie.

Beautiful story

Corrie and Reese are amazing. Reese is extremely patient, loving and dedicated. He's dedicated to his club and to helping the woman who captured his attention get over her fears. I

Corrie sees herself as weak, not good enough and a failure...nothing could be further from the truth, she's a fighter and with Reese by her side she's unstoppable. Watch Corrie find herself again and follow Reese in finding peace.
