Mai tais and stunning beaches and hide a evil as FBI Agent Lei Texeira works closely with MMA-fighting tech agent Sophie Ang to uncover the hidden face behind an online suicide group. Maui’s pristine rainforest is the setting for a bizarre murder involving the poaching of rare native Hawaiian birds. Lei is so caught up in catching a killer that she may not make it to her own wedding. The searing heat of the deepest passions are let loose when the grisly murder of someone close to newlyweds Lei and Stevens triggers an investigation way too close to home. The steamy jungles of the Big Island are the backdrop for revenge as Lei hunts down a killer who has been plaguing her family and leaving muslin shrouds as a calling card. “Neal’s writing is persistently riveting...Masterly.” Kirkus Reviews

Toby Neal was raised on Kauai in Hawaii. She wrote and illustrated her first story at age 5. After initially majoring in journalism, she eventually settled on mental health as a career and loves her work, saying, “I’m endlessly fascinated with people’s stories.”

Toby credits her counseling background in adding depth to her characters–from the villains to Lei Texeira, the courageous and vulnerable heroine in the Lei Crime Series, to the wounds and psychological implications of the heroes of the Scorch Series.

**Twisted Vine - Suicide or Murder? This was a great book. It's an interesting study of the topic - the right for someone who is dying to die nicely instead of waiting for the inevitable to happen. While Lei is busy investigating to find out whether or not the deaths are suicides and what connects the deaths, Sophie (the IT guru) constructs a false identity so that she can delve into the online community of people wanting the right to die. Toby Neal’s books always captivate me and I love the word pictures of Hawaii [Reviewed on Kobo on 19Apr18; Goodreads on 18Apr20]
**Shattered Palms - It's a while since I read a 'Lei Texeira' murder mystery and so I enjoyed the book. Toby Neal writes good books [Reviewed on Kobo on 25May23; Goodreads on 11Nov24]
**Dark Lava - Good book. Nicely written. Characters are well-developed and the story flows well [Reviewed on Kobo on February 8, 2018; Goodreads 19Apr20]
**Fire Beach - Lei is still chasing the "shroud killer" even though the FBI has warned her to stay away. Michael is busy investigating a series of arson events culminating with a body in a canefield. The cases move between the islands tracking the suspects. Strong story [Reviewed on Kobo 19Apr20; Goodreads on 19Apr20]

I love Toby Neal and every book I’ve read of hers has left me with some degree of a book hangover. Even though she can rip my heart to shreds, she always has a way of putting it all back together again. Toby’s female leads are strong, fierce, independent, fabulous although rough around the edges. Toby writes with such exquisite detail. The way she’s able to immerse you into the island surroundings makes one feel as though they are there. Exhilarating is one word to describe Toby’s writing. Suspenseful is another that comes to mind. Thrilling, fast paced, action packed, easy flow, engaging, immersive, vulnerable, and scintillating to say the least.

You must read Toby Neal's "Lei Crime Series"!

I loved this series. Toby really brings it all to life. Michael, Pono, the police procedure. Then there is Lei and her internal struggles. I have always wanted to see Hawii, and now I want it more. I think after reading these books I am ready. And I think I have my pidgin down pretty good. If can can, if no can no can. I've red the first 8 books 3 times each. Might read them a couple more times. Thank you Toby Neal.

Four more good to great books.

One has to wonder how these two people can get in and out of trouble, mentally and physically, but they have done it again.
Lei, stop being so impulsive and think before you leap into more perilous situations. Please!!!!
