His cousin, Gustav Hasford, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, on which the feature film Full Metal Jacket was based, was a large influence on Aaron. Aaron decided he wanted to write comics as a child, and though his father was skeptical when Aaron informed him of this aspiration, his mother took Aaron to drug stores, where he would purchase books from spinner racks, some of which he still owns today.
Aaron's career in comics began in 2001 when he won a Marvel Comics talent search contest with an eight-page Wolverine back-up story script. The story, which was published in Wolverine #175 (June 2002), gave him the opportunity to pitch subsequent ideas to editors.
In 2006, Aaron made a blind submission to DC/Vertigo, who published his first major work, the Vietnam War story The Other Side which was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Miniseries, and which Aaron regards as the "second time" he broke into the industry.
Following this, Vertigo asked him to pitch other ideas, which led to the series Scalped, a creator-owned series set on the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation and published by DC/Vertigo.
In 2007, Aaron wrote Ripclaw: Pilot Season for Top Cow Productions. Later that year, Marvel editor Axel Alonso, who was impressed by The Other Side and Scalped, hired Aaron to write issues of Wolverine, Black Panther and eventually, an extended run on Ghost Rider that began in April 2008. His continued work on Black Panther also included a tie-in to the company-wide crossover storyline along with a "Secret Invasion" with David Lapham in 2009.
In January 2008, he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, though it would not affect his work on Scalped. Later that July, he wrote the Penguin issue of The Joker's Asylum.
After a 4-issue stint on Wolverine in 2007, Aaron returned to the character with the ongoing series Wolverine: Weapon X, launched to coincide with the feature film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Aaron commented, "With Wolverine: Weapon X we'll be trying to mix things up like that from arc to arc, so the first arc is a typical sort of black ops story but the second arc will jump right into the middle of a completely different genre," In 2010, the series was relaunched once again as simply Wolverine. He followed this with his current run on Thor: God of Thunder.

Really cool issue but I thought this would’ve been more than a one-off. Liked the Journal of Obi-Wan short at the end a lot too. Can’t wait to get the second Star Wars omnibus so I can see the first appearance of SCAR squadron.

I thought that the SCAR Squadron story was great except for the dialogue at the end, where Leia says "We should bury them!" and then seconds later says "We should leave!" And there's Luke saying the cliche "The war has just begun" when really this war has been going on for a while. I really liked the Tusken story "The Sand Will Provide" that was included at the end. Seems like this might be the final entry in Ben Kenobi's journal, which might make sense given that this is the end of Jason Aaron's run on this Star Wars series. I feel like the series got progressively worse starting with Vader Down and hit its lowest point with The Screaming Citadel. The one-shots that followed were a bit better despite not reaching the heights of the first two arcs. But this was a mostly good issue to end Aaron's run on.

SGT Kreel and SCAR is back!
This really goes deep inside the mind of Kreel, and I absolutely love it. By far one of my favorite comic book characters across this 37 issue Star Wars comic book read marathon I am currently pursuing. I would absolutely love to see this guy come to life in a TV show, movie, or videogame.
Lord Vader gets some show time in this one as well, and the dark lord delivers as expected.
I kinda doubt SCAR would get their own TV show/game, with Bad Batch and The Clone Wars and such already having such a good run. Might just be one too many Storm Troopers on the big screen to try to push one more... but damn... it sure would be cool if they would....

The first half of this continues the ongoing story and the writing seems to have picked up, this was much more enjoyable than the last few comics! ... The art is still absolutely horrible though!
The second half 'The Sand Will Provide' is a short story about the Tuskens and it was surprisingly poignant and beautifully illustrated - it was a welcome surprise after being continuously disappointed in this series, I'd like to see more stuff like this in the future.

A strong "background" story, continuing the current streak of single issues. There is a hint of something massive coming, which I hope they can keep up. And I liked the shorter story from the journals of Ben Kenobi in the last section.

Getting frustrated with this series. It’s literally gone nowhere in the last four issues. Need a story arc.

Star Wars #37 is a thrilling comic book that continues the adventures of the iconic characters from the Star Wars universe. The story follows the Rebel Alliance as they attempt to secure a new base on the planet of Arrochar, while facing off against the evil forces of the Empire. The writing by Jason Aaron is top-notch, with a gripping storyline that captures the excitement and drama of the Star Wars universe. The artwork by Salvador Larroca is also excellent, with beautifully detailed illustrations that perfectly capture the look and feel of the franchise. However, some readers may find the plot to be too familiar or the characters to be lacking in depth. Overall, I would give Star Wars #37 a rating of 4 out of 5 stars, and recommend it for fans of the franchise or anyone looking for an exciting and action-packed read.

Una historia con el Escuadrón Cicatriz siempre es una buena historia, pero en este tomo en dos partes el juego de luces y sombras de Larroca al final de la primera no está muy bien logrado, algunos rostros parecen demasiado fotográficos.
El segundo tomo baja mucho en cuanto a ilustración, y no porque Sorrentino sea un mal dibujante, si no porque no casa con el guión que Aaron le ha proporcionado y parece que no se entiendan mucho. Ni Aaron es Miller ni Sorrentino es Sienkiewicz, y claro, un interesante relato sobre los tusken fracasa estrepitosamente.

- Whoever designed the Overlord, did an awesome job!
- The artwork is awesome! I love all the action scenes, especially with Sergeant Kreel.
- Sergeant Kreel's monologue got a bit over dramatic.
- This issue had a very somber ending. I like that the series shows the war against the empire in a more daunting way.
- I was confused by the short story at the end, but then Obi-Wan showed up.
