Alaska State Trooper Dan Patterson fears a serial killer is murdering women on Kodiak Island. A woman was found floating in the boat harbor in May. In October, an off-duty trooper stumbled upon the body of an 18-year-old girl in the woods, and later that month, two young boys discovered the bones of Deanna Kerr entwined in a pile of kelp on the beach. When a park ranger discovers the body of a fourth woman, Patterson calls the FBI for assistance, and FBI Special Agent Nick Morgan flies to Kodiak to aid in the investigation. Morgan quickly realizes they have too many suspects and too little evidence. Could the killer be the crab boat captain who knew two of the victims, or is the murderer one of the coaches at the high school? As the investigation proceeds, Patterson even begins to fear the killer could be someone on his task force. When the murderer strikes again, tensions escalate, and Patterson and Morgan know they must catch this monster before another woman dies.

Pros: - interesting plot, - place: set in Alaska, - quite bloody, but without horrific touch - well written, easy to read, - gripping beginning and ending
Cons: - slow paced (at least for me) - we r following 2 investigators all the time: they kinda inseparable...lol - endless interviews (don’t see any point to ask same people over & over again, if each time all they say “we haven’t seen anything”. What is the goal with all those interviews in the book? I think next time the author should think about: compression & economy. - lack of backstory (id like to see what’s going on in Kerr’s family behind the curtain, for example)...
A serial killer is stalking women on Kodiak Island. FBI agent Nick Morgan is called in to assist the local authorities. There are several viable suspects as the investigation heats up. There are several twists and turns, and a final surprise. The remote setting contributes much to the story and is well portrayed.
I didn't like this one as much as Karluk Bones, but still enjoyed more of the background. I do always love a crime novel and these are like dessert to me. I think I liked these more because I'm Alaskan and could relate to a lot of the things being talked about. Especially the weather!
Kodiak Island, Alaska - a perfect setting for a murder mystery. Robin Barefield has created a riveting story involving a serial killer on the island. Her characters are true to life, and true Alaskans. There is even a bit of romance. Excitement on every page! Loved it.
