Fandom: 僕のヒーローアカデミア | Boku no Hero Academia | My Hero Academia -------------------------------------------------- Midoriya Izuku has always been written off as weird. As if it's not bad enough to be the quirkless weakling, he has to be the weird quirkless weakling on top of it.
But truthfully, the "weird" part is the only part that's accurate. He's determined not to be a weakling, and in spite of what it says on paper, he's not actually quirkless. Even before meeting All-Might and taking on the power of One For All, Izuku isn't quirkless.
Just gonna stick this My Hero Academia fanfiction here because I read it twice in the last two weeks. I'm looking to get into more fanfic for reasons outside of even my own understanding, and the website I found this on said "This has to be the greatest version of Deku yet, bar none. Yes, that includes canon as well." And honestly, I'm inclined to agree. It's a retelling of the story in the anime, but the main character Midorya Izuku can see ghosts. The author calls it a "Sixth Sense AU". It's really, really good, does some interesting things with the canon, actually considers the emotional toll of the near-death experiences that the average teenage protagonist has to go through, and is written very well to boot.
Anyway, if you're interested I highly recommend it, it goes past the anime though so beware of spoilers.
5/5, I want to read it for a third time.
Update 3-3-22: I read it a third time. It no longer goes past the anime at this point, still extremely, extremely good at understanding the internal lives of these characters.
The way Pitviper captures mystery, emotion, character relationships and development in Yesterday Upon the Stair... it's all so masterful. If this book was printed, I would buy the hardcover for my shelf. I absolutely adore it. The first chapter brought me to tears, as all of Pitviper's works tend to do, somehow, and the ones following have tugged my heartstrings right and left. There's Sachi, Tensei, Truth or Dare, and Mika growling at Endeavor-- all the bases are covered. Anything you want to see in a quirk au fic is here. Pitviper manages to handle the topic of death with the perfect amount of care and bravery. It... I can't really say much else other than overall, this thing is a solid masterpiece. I know that the chances are you won't be seeing this, but thank you for creating it anyways. PiViperOfDoom, I love all that you make. Plus Ultra writing onwards!
And potential readers, considering reading this jumbo sized smoothie of awesomeness, let me tell you this: you should. You REALLY should. You may be intimidated by the word or chapter count or all that people have said about it, but it's so engaging and well-paced that you'll forget the scroll bar exists well before Midoriya does his math homework.
Honestly not enough people read fanfictions. Ok sure it's not original, it's based on another work but so what? Alternate universe fanfics are amazing! Yesterday Upon The Stair is a prime example of how deep, beautiful and overall amazing a fanfic can be.
Did I just read a 1400 pages fanfiction???? But OMG this is so good !!!!!! “ You make perfect sense to me “ LIKE THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aromantic Soulmates yum yum right in my alley it’s so good. It’s PERFECTION, a better MHA in terms of characters development and plots!!
Love the ending as well , everything cleaned up so nicely , deku went to therapy, like a perfect happy ending!!!!!!
I read a lot of fic, and this is by far one of my favourites. I've re-read it this past month and it still holds up. It's well written, well paced and just hits the spot.
This work of fan fiction is 1) on a completely elevated level than every other fan fiction I've read and 2) one of the prime examples as to why fan fiction should be more revered as an art and be considered "real writing". With my attention span, reading is quite literally an all or nothing activity for me, and when I saw the length of this work (424,070 words) I will admit, I was hesitant. A dear friend recommended it to me with high praises and begged me to read at least the first chapter to get a taste.
That was three days ago.
The writing style was so severely compelling that once I started the only thing that stopped me from continuing was the blurriness of my vision and exhaustion. With the first chapter alone, the story showed so much promise and potential that one simply could not leave it alone. AO3 user PitViperOfDoom has such a perfect understanding of the Boku No Hero Academia characters and managed to flawlessly dictate exactly how things would play out in plot divergency of the original work it was inspired by. Never before have I read a BNHA fan fiction, or any fan fiction for that matter, that captured every characters drive and actions and way of thinking so wondrously. The combination of a perfect understanding of character and opportunity created literal countless quotes that left me breathless, with chills, and the only thought of "raw as hell".
And as someone currently in a queerplatonic relationship, I was over the fucking moon about how you portrayed it not once, not twice, but three times, and the sheer accuracy of how it feels to be in one and have others misunderstand the nature of such an intimate relationship. I had to pause from reading it because it brought me to tears and I was blown away by the portrayals.
If I'm to be honest, I debated not reading the last chapter because I was not sure how it could close before following through with the general plot of the remainder of season four, and because I simply never wanted it to end. The retelling had so quickly and effortlessly become so special to me that I can genuinely say I will forever hold a piece of it in my heart and mind. But if I left it unfinished it would have bothered me to the ends of the earth. So I had pulled myself together and absolutely devoured the final chapter, then sat feeling gobsmacked by the immaculate handling of closing the story to major plot points in the original story and the satisfaction the entire work left me with.
All I have left to say is thank you, endlessly, for understanding characters so deeply and portraying everything perfectly. Thank you for providing this piece of art.

This is the best My Hero Academia Fan fiction AU Canon Rewrite fanfic I've ever read. All the characters feel like the canon characters, the interactions and fears of the characters are so real. If you're into mha fanfic and haven't read this, then what are you doing with yourself?
This is definitely a must-read for anyone who knows even the bare minimum about BNHA. I'm not even a fan of the manga/anime anymore but I still find myself coming back to read years later. It is captivating, mysterious, spooky, and very well written.
