Dad Bod

Rate this book
I’m a single mom. He’s a single dad. In theory, we should have something in common, right? Wrong. When I receive a phone call from my daughter’s school, I’m shocked to find my sweet little girl has been in a fight. Hauled to the principal’s office to straighten things out, I find myself sitting next to none other than my first kiss—Tyler Daniels—the man who'd taught me the meaning of trouble. After living the high life in NYC, Tyler’s back in town to ruin me all over again. This time—the joke’s on him. I’m older and (sometimes) wiser, and after my last failed relationship, I’m in no mood to have my pigtails pulled. Not even when Tyler decides to try that kissing thing all over again. However, Tyler’s gotten a lot better at that kissing thing, and when one steamy kiss leads to the next, I suddenly find myself thinking about Tyler Daniels and his smoking hot dad bod at the worst of times. Even if his presence in my home town will run my beautiful little inn right out of business. When push comes to shove, however, Tyler Daniels and I are not cut out to be friends—and I’m not sure we’re ready for more.

DNF at 47%.

I have come to learn that second chance romances are my favourite. And when told in dual POV, it’s a bonus. I love witnessing what is formulating in their heads as things are happening. This one is classified as a rom-com, but personally I feel it is more of a contemporary romance. Might not matter for some, or it could be a deal breaker, so know that it has lots of funny moments.

This book started out really well and flowed brilliantly. The characters were very diverse and complex. This has a storyline that is hugely prevalent and the reactions these two have for different incidents is extremely genuine. The highs and lows, the excitement and entanglements brings about a lot of passion.

I am in two minds on the length of the book. Even though I felt it had a couple of lull moments, I also feel we needed the full background to completely understand the frame of mind and repercussions made by these two. I also enjoyed the secondary characters that came into play. The girls were sweet, the BFF dependably and loyal and the mother, well I sure her heart is in the right place! I admire and respect this author immensely and love reading and watching her work improve and succeed as a outstanding author.

If you have followed along on my reviews for any amount of time you know that I am a sucker for a single parent romance. Dad Bod has a double dose of single parents and I fell in love not only with this couple but with their daughters as well!

Dad Bod is a second chance romance that had me laughing out loud, falling in love. On top of all the warm gooey feelings I also had my heartbroken for their daughters who at such young ages have dealt with difficult parental relations that no little girl should go through.

Tyler and Maggie were once upon a time deep in love with each other and the decisions they made had kept them apart for nearly a decade before their surprise reunion. Their reunion was explosive! Push and pull, attempting to push aside their desire that was still simmering just below the surface.

"Now that I've gotten the full view of Tyler's smoking hot dad bod, I need more."

Dad Bod is my favorite book written by Lily Kate thus far and I can't wait to read what else she will come up with!

Sinopsis:
SOY UNA MAMÁ SOLTERA.
Él es un papá soltero.
En teoría, deberíamos tener algo en común, ¿cierto? Falso.

I HATE stupid heroines. This is the first heroine that I have encountered in a while that seems to lack a brain. She has all of three interactions with her ex and she states she is already falling for him again. All three interactions were lacking in chemistry. After the 4th interraction she tells her best friend that she wants to try the relationship again because "it's different this time"

REALLY???! What gave you that clue? Was it him running off and having a child with someone who was mean to you? Or was it him trying to make a life (asking to marry him) with that person after he told you he didn't want to settle down.

So depressing. Our heroine was ready to settle down after college, the hero didn't want to, so he left for NYC...got a girl pregnant that tried to get in-between the hero and the heroine in college then asked her to marry him. She rejected him, but if she hadn't, he would have married her.

All of this and this brainless heroine is doe-eyed because he fixed a freaking popcorn machine.

Reading books like this make me want to quit reading romance again. Can authors please stop writing books that have heroines with low self-esteem???

This is not a bad book it just wasn’t what I expected. Definitely not a romantic comedy in my eyes. Sure it had some funny parts but not a lot. It also seemed to drag in the middle to the point I started to want to skim.

I really enjoyed Tyler and Maggie's second chance love story. They're both older and single parents. The book was a bit slow but I loved all of the characters. Lily is so great describing this little inn where Maggie and her friend Emily work and live and all of the other fun characters that work there too! Then there is Tyler and his little girl who are staying at the inn which of course isn't a coincidence. And Maggie and Tyler's girls go to school together since Tyler will be in town for business for a while. I think I would have like to see a little more with the kids but I'm a sucker for that, what can I say.
All and all this wasn't my favorite book by Lily Kate but it was a pretty good read. 3.5 stars.

Started of very strong, lots of humor and it flowed well. However while I love the relationship between the H&h, what bothered me is the lack of relationship between Tyler and Mila (Maggie’s daughter).
Throughout the whole book Tyler literally converses with Mila once, and even during that brief sentence he was staring at Maggie’s legs. The author allowed for a relationship to build and strengthen throughout the book between Maggie and Jess(Tyler’s daughter) so it really bothered me when the same time wasn’t applied for M&T relationship.
Skimmed the last 20% , because everything was way too predictable and then the last straw came when he proposed right after h announcing she’s pregnant. Then somehow we are suppose to believe that they are one little happy family .... when in reality said ‘family’ would be extremely dysfunctional as the stepfather had never previously spoke to stepdaughter.

This was my first Lily Kate book and i really enjoyed it, the synopsis had me at hot dad but then when another single parent was involved i knew i had to get it.

This story was beyond sweet, second chance love, two daughters and two very confused adults which at times made me laugh. These two battled there way through the past and with thier two daughters who struggled to get along.

We were taken on a journey of business and livelihood and how actions can speak louder than words.

I adored Mila and Jess in the book the two little girls struggled but were such a breath of fresh air in this book. I felt sorry for them, i just wanted them to be both happy and they were so young but had already had such sadness in their life.

Tyler and Maggie were great characters and they just needed a push to work out what they wanted and needed from thier lives.

I loved how this was set in a small town and how it was based around an inn that felt more like a family than a place to live and work at. I loved all the side characters Jax, Emily and Luca they made this book feel like a warm hug.

If your looking for a book that is sweet, sexy and a little sexy time then this is your book the writing was awesome and the story was perfect really enjoyed this.

Ok. I did not like this, but gave it two stars because I generally like the writing style, just not the mistakes or the formula.

What really drives me crazy are stories where the author can't be consistent in her/his own story... from one chapter to the next. In one chapter the mom changes into yoga pants and a t-shirt after being in a dress. The next chapter -- just a few minutes later, he's slipping off the dress. SAY WHAT?? Do a better job please.

This follows the formulaic of
- boy meets (remeets girl)
- boy states all his feelings up front about how much he loves her but then leaves out some important stuff (lies by omission are still lies) like the perception of running her out of business or buying her business or whatever
- 50% in -- I keep track of this crazy stuff -- they're having sex anyway because of feelings
- then - you guessed it -- she feels betrayed -- why are these fools surprised????
- Then they make up and there's only a half hearted HEA for me.

Why is it that livelihoods and self worth, which should be pretty damn important to women, go out the window for love? Why can't they have both? Why does the man have to swoop in or feel like he does? And why can't there be more punishment for the woman who refuses to be a mother? Gah.

This was a cute book with a fun story line. I'm a sucker for single parent books. I gobble them up, and this one was just what I had expected. Cute, sweet fun. But I did have a few problems with this book.

MILD SPOILER ALERTS

1. Maggie was annoying. She was so stubborn and didn't listen at all. I felt like she was never really committed to the idea of a relationship with Tyler. I did like that she was a really good mom and a hard working woman, but that's about it. Everything else about her drove me crazy. I didnt like her poor pitiful me attitude.
2. There was no one on one interaction between Mila and Tyler. That bugged me A LOT! There was a lot of dialogue between Jess and Maggie so they could get to know one another, but when it came to the other two there was none. I didnt see how Tyler could "love" both mother and daughter if he didnt even get to know Mila at all.
3. I didnt like how there was no conclusion with Maggie and her mom. There needed to be some type of closure there for me and there wasnt.

Overall I give it 3 stars, the book wasnt terrible and I did finish it. It had some really cute parts that I enjoyed a lot.

Maggie is a single mom who has a life she loves with her daughter and the family she has created at the inn where she lives and works. She loves her life and is totally fine not dating, but then Tyler comes back into her life.

They had dated and fallen in love, but broke up when he left their small town to go to New York. Now he's a single dad who is back in town and staying at the inn.

Lily Kate's books are always fun and romantic with relatable characters. They are never what they seem at the outset of the story and you really get a look into what makes them tick.

This book is a departure from her hockey series, and I missed those characters and that world, but found myself enjoying this one just as much as her previous books. I like small town stories with quirky characters and you'll find a number of them here. I hope there will be additional books about some of the staff at the inn like Emily, Luca, and Jack!

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Short review. Very good second chance love story, Tyler and Maggie are both likable even when there were times I was frustrated with one or both of them. I felt like Maggie was emotional runner in the relationship whether it was past or present she kept pushing Tyler away, Maggie put the reason for why their relationship ended all those years ago on Tyler. But I don't agree with her she wanted Tyler to give up his dreams to stay there when she wasn't willingly to give her dreams to go with him, I would have liked to have seen Maggie offer up something she would give up for him instead of him willingly to give up everything for her. That part of the story didn't seem fare to me. I liked both their daughters, I would have liked Tyler to have spent some more one on one time with Mila like Maggie did with Jessica.

I totally loved this book! A second chance love story with the perfect mixture of romance, laughs, and tension. When her first love returns to town, Maggie is determined to not fall back under his spell. Tyler is determined to make up for the last ten years. When their daughters fighting, Maggie and Tyler spend some time together to help the girls get along. While spending time together their feelings start to resurface.

Ms. Kate has once again written a book that both captured my attention and left me laughing long after I finished. Mila and Jess (the 2 daughters) managed to warm my heart and make me want to gather them up and just hug them to make their hurt go away. The main characters are realistic in their actions and fears. And the secondary characters were amazingly funny and fit right in to the story.

Maggie and Tyler will melt your hearts, singe your fingertips, and leave you in stitches! Maggie loves her life with her daughter Mila, her friends and running the Lilac Inn. It may not be the picket fence life she dreamed about with Tyler Daniels before he left her and Harp’s Haven behind, but it’s hers and she cherishes it. When Tyler comes back to Harp Haven with his daughter Jess in tow, Maggie is thrown. Tyler regretted his decision to leave Margaret Marshall, while he did end up with his daughter, everything else in his life leaves him restless and hollow. Coming back home to Harp’s Haven for business and seeing Maggie again is like a breath of fresh air and he refuses to let her get away again.

Sexy second chance rom-com mixed with two single parents in a small town with low angst

Dad Bod is a sexy, standalone, second chance romance mixed with two single parents in a small town after differing dreams tore them apart. Told from dual perspective, Dad Bod is filled with heart warming moments, two cute daughters, humour, and a sizzling sexiness between a hot couple, this low angst read is the perfect read for any single parent romance fans or romance fans in general looking for a light hearted fun read.

Definitely would recommend it!

High school sweethearts that are torn apart when Tyler wants to move to New York for college and excitement but Maggie wants to remain in their quiet town. Both have flings that find them raising daughters alone. Tyler’s business has grown over the years and he finds himself back in his old hometown looking to build a luxury hotel that will put The Lilac Inn that Maggie runs out of business. The old feelings spark when they run into one another with insecurities and angst and misunderstandings causing problems. This book doesn’t have the laugh out loud moments of Lily Kate’s other books but it is still a sweet, heartwarming and enjoyable read. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Simply Adorable! This book was just a sweet and cute second chance romance. I am used to Lily Kate's hockey love stories so this one was entirely different. But a very good different and I loved it!!!

If your looking for a sweet story that involves a little wiener ornament, 2 little girls, a collective family and a stubborn woman still in love with an amazing Dad? Then you've got your perfect story here. Crazy ex too and oblivious friends in love with each other too. But hey, The Chef is hot and he makes chocolate chip cookies! Add a popcorn machine and its a match made in heaven!

This started out great. I love a second chance read, especially rom coms. This did start out funny.

Maggie is great. She is an awesome mom and hard worker. She's doing her best being a single mom and she's doing a fantastic job.

I liked Tyler, but he didn't communicate things that well with Maggie, except for how he felt. don't get me wrong, that's a great thing. But he kept other important things from her.

I loved how Maggie was with Jessica, but we didn't see that same interaction between Tyler and Mila. I was hoping for that.

The middle was a little slow for me. Overall, this was an enjoyable read.

I read this because I enjoyed Delivery Girl quite a bit. I thought it was a very cute romantic comedy. Dad Bod is also billed as a romantic comedy but it’s neither as funny nor as cute as Delivery Girl. It’s pretty uneven and cheesy and seems quickly slapped together after the author binged one too many Hallmark Channel movies. (Note: I love Hallmark Channel movies but am fully aware that most of the premises are half-baked at best.) That said, I hope this is just a misstep by the author and I still plan on reading the other two books in her Minnesota Ice series.

Oh Tyler!

Tyler and Maggie. High school sweethearts, first loves, first heart breaks. Years ago Tyler left, breaking both of their hearts, to make it big in New York. Now he is back and seeing Maggie again, wants to pick up where they left off.

I loved Tyler so much. He was all in this time, trying to convince Maggie that he was here to stay. Maggie was understandably leery but at times she was so stubborn I wanted to shake her! Adorable kids, great secondary characters and a sweet small town add to the story. Loved it!!
