Lured by the imposing castle on a cliff, the first mistress of Thornehaven's untimely death marked the beginning of many tragedies that would befall its future inhabitants. Delilah, the second wife of handsome, brooding Jonathan Thorne, watches helplessly as unimaginable twists of fate strike those closest to them. When her husband turns his back on her, not even the fact that she's carrying his child is enough to break through the barriers of misunderstanding and smoldering resentment that divide them. As the birth of the long-awaited heir approaches, the wheels of cursed fate are set in motion, and the events that follow are so horrific that no one would blame the young bride if she lost her mind.

This was a very good book. It reminded me of the old gothic books written in the 60's and 70's. The story kept my interest and it had a surprising ending. This book is one of those that you would read again.
In this second book of the Thornehaven series the author succeeds in her brilliant storytelling and captivates you from the start. With her life-like characters and vivid writing style it's easy to settle-in and enjoy the story. But make no mistake. She mystifies and keeps you guessing. Ms. Ross manages to take your feelings on a roller coaster ride of ups and downs and just when you think you've reached the high point in the story more twists are revealed. She then rewards the reader with a memorable and lingering ending. Although you don't have to read Thornehaven book one in this series to understand and enjoy it, I highly recommend that you do. I can't wait for book three of this gothic family saga!
A copy of this book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.
This book had lots of potential. It had an intriguing premise and some interesting twists, but it largely fell short on the execution. I hate the cliched "Show, don't tell" writing advice, but in this case I think the author really needed it. The writing style gets very explain-y and events often felt awkward and forced. The pacing was off, and aspects of character development were glossed over. Ultimately, this book felt like a draft that needs some pretty thorough reworking.
I did really love the way that Part One leads you into certain assumptions in Part Two that you slowly begin to realize are horribly wrong. Part Three didn't really do it for me at all. There were also a lot of weird and problematic elements to the story near the end that I won't get into.
I was almost tempted to give this book 3 stars, since it was compelling enough to get me to keep reading to end, but I can't say I really enjoyed the process. I would consider returning to this author in the future, once she has developed her writing.
The is a entertaining, intriguing, and interesting story. It started mysterious. The characters is fantastic. It a excellent to see what happens. This book definitely trap you to the ending. I enjoyed every page.
The first in the series, I guessed the mystery. Not in this one though. It was brilliant. I loved it from beginning to end. Can’t wait to read book three.
