My first Robyn Carr romance as a 10 hrs audiobook narrated by Thérèse Plummer. I jumped right in to the seventh book-part about love, life and people in Thunder Point, Oregon.
Book #7 - One Wish is Grace Dillon, a former figure skater now a smalltown flower shop owner, and the high-school teacher Troy Headly’s love story.
I liked, enjoyed and I'm glad about my gamble to choose and download this "unknown" audiobook just because I liked this narrator from another audiobook just a week ago. One again big applauses to a very well accomplished narration by Thérèse Plummer. She and her perfect voice, if anything, did this to a even more enjoyable audio listening.
Jeez, this was genuine super nice contemporary m/f romance in a homey All American small-town environment.
A like romances like this one with adult heroes and heroines to genuinely like, friendly neighbors, great true buddy-friends and maybe some difficult stuff to solve with family like here. Books where the focus isn't just on romantic moments (or sweet bedroom steam) but also on ordinary life, the characters own issues, the overall plot (here: leaving the hard ice skating tour, a bad relationship with a mother, the want to just be ordinary), and books where you get a interesting (touching) secondary plot (here: a visiting grieving young mother). Add a few fun short scenes with main characters from other book-parts (I guess they are anyway) and some light suspense and you get a good classic CR.
(One Wish feels like a part of a good and steady CR series concept all in all. I guess all books in this authors series are more or less alike with new amusing romantic stories and characters. Absolutely perfect to enjoy at times when you want it to be just entertaining.)
Quite honestly, One Wish was just a tiny bit from to be too nice & sweet at times, but I was nevertheless hooked. I sincerely felt for all these characters. I shed tears, giggled and felt the pain when so were intended. It was after all a quite realistic story about ordinary (authentic) people without too much added drama or over the top sugary scenes. A bit lengthy maybe but it will surely be more visits to this pleasant Thunder Point world made by Ms Carr. Positive surprised how much I liked.
Another good (not great) one. I think I'm spoiled from the Virgin River series and expect these to be just as awesome. I actually got excited when I saw Denny from VR was coming to town to meet up with the hero! But I think I'll cut the author some slack now because seriously, this lady can write.:)
This one is about 27 year-old Grace Dillon, the local flower shop owner. She's a former Olympic figure skater (aka Isabella "Izzy" Grace Dillon Banks), and has managed to keep her fame under wraps in Thunder Point (because apparently no one watches the Olympics on TV or reads the newspaper in TP). Grace has had it with the spotlight and how cutthroat the world of figure skating is, not to mention how domineering her wealthy mom has become, so she chucks it all for the peace and quiet of Thunder Point. She's made a few friends-- high school guidance counselor Iris, and the rejected suiter of Iris, high school teacher and avid outdoorsman/ thrill seeker Troy Headly. She thinks Troy's cute but still hung up on Iris, but Iris is married now (to town deputy Seth) and Troy's starting to realize that so he's now looking at Grace in a new light. And he likes what he sees. But he knows Grace is hiding something about herself, but what is it? And when he finds out, will he be able to deal with it? And get past it?
Grace thinks Troy resembles Jude Law...
I liked these two together, they had a sweet/hot little romance going. Grace and Troy were a couple of lonely singles looking for love, and not realizing it. Nothing earth shattering in this book, just some every day type of Thunder Point, the series family-type problems--nothing that can't be overcome with some talking. Troy did have a sort of ass**** moment, where I was slightly disappointed in him, but it didn't last long, and he and Grace were able to work through it.
So yes, reading this series is like wearing a pair of comfortable old slippers. You enjoy the feeling, you're warm and cozy, and you're quite content while wearing/reading in them. I'm not going to compare this to Virgin River again, because apparently, that ship has sailed. So I'll be content with the second best town Robyn Carr writes about, and that is Thunder Point, Oregon. Nice story, nice development, nice supporting characters, nice subplots--it kept me turning the pages---I'm ready for the next one! A solid 4 stars
Quick summary Grace Dillon owns and operates a flower shop in Thunder Point but no one knows she once was a famous champion skater. It consumed her life for many years and she'd like to keep that in the past and secret. Troy Headly is a history teacher sort of nursing his wounds after he wasn't able to win the heart of Grace's best friend Iris. She's privately in serious like with him as they decide to have an airy "friends with benefits" relationship. Yeah, right.
What works about this story I love it when the characters enter into a relationship with eyes wide open. Grace and Troy promised each other nothing but to enjoy their time together. No denials about getting serious, nor any discussion of commitments. They just got to know and respect each other. I liked both of them, a lot. And, I really liked their relationship. When things got rough for Grace, Troy stepped up as a friend first and then a lover.
The bottom line I loved everything about the story, especially the romance. As with all the books in this series, other residents of Thunder Point have their moments and Rawley's was priceless. It's what makes the stories special...like comfort food for the soul. I never want this series to end.
(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)
I have a dear friend for the past 40 years who was days from the Olympics in figure skating when she took a fall in training. Her entire life, as she knew it up to that point, ended that day. I knew her a good ten years before she shared it with me. I had no idea. She kept it a secret. How did she tell me? She had tickets for a skating all-star show and she took my mom and I, telling us in the car on the way. I had barely even grasped the idea before we were hustled backstage and began hobnobbing with prominent skating figures who my mom and I had followed closely for years and years on t.v. They were all rushing over to my friend, jumping up and down screaming and hugging her. You could have knocked us over with a feather. So, this story was even more enjoyable for me because I learned, up front and personal, the cost these special athletes face and deal with and why my dear friend kept it to herself all those years. ;)
Guilty pleasure books like this get pulled out when life gets busy or stressful and my brain needs a break from being serious. This absolute stinker was my companion during game 3 of the World Series when the blood pressure needed to calm down between innings. I regret every damned page of this.
Crimes against exclamation points were committed. Grief following a miscarriage can apparently be cured in an instant with a haircut, MAC makeup, and new clothes, which is infuriating. That kind of grief is heavy and doesn't just go away with a makeover. It takes time to process and leaves a hole in your heart that never goes away. There is a stereotypical Russian figure skating coach and a Toddlers and Tiaras level crazy stage mom. The plot is asinine and time would have been better spent reading the National Enquirer.
One Wish was another OK story in the somewhat disappointing Thunder Point series. Nothing wrong with it, it was a typical and average contemporary romance. The main characters were also adequate: Grace Dillon, a retired professional figure skater that owns a flower shop, and Troy Headly, a teacher and coach at the local high school. The plot was fair, with some dramas on Grace’s part. Their chemistry seemed fair.
Robyn Carr seems to have a good formula for writing small town romances. However, in my opinion, seems to have lost her impetus and flair after the great Virgin River series. I don’t think it’s worth comparing both series, that seems to be old news. Just read both, besides that what more can I say?
One Wish by Robyn Carr is a 2014 Harlequin Mira publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
We visit Thunder Point once again as we meet Grace, a woman sort of hiding out from her past. Grace lived life as an only child of a wealthy parent, thrust into the spotlight as an Olympic ice skater. But, she walked away from all that and is now running a floral shop in Thunder Point. When her friend Iris marries after a whirlwind courtship, she breaks Troy Headly's heart in the process. On the rebound, Troy begins to hang out with Grace more and eventually the two begin dating. Troy soon discovers Grace has a past she would rather keep hidden. So, why did Grace walk away from fame and glory? Will Troy be able to deal with her past?
There is also a secondary story as a companion to Troy and Grace's relationship which of course blends together in it's own way. However, I have to say that while I did like the characters in this part of the novel, I didn't like the depressing storyline.
This not the very best effort by this author, but it's still a very good read for the most part. I thought some parts were rushed through and some parts dragged on far too long. I saw real character development and growth, especially for Grace who has been so sheltered. She blossoms with Troy and begins to make peace with herself and her past. She will also face adversity when a family crisis develops and although she could have passed off the obligations to others, she handles things very well, stepping up to the plate and taking the high road, letting go of a lifetime of resentment in the process. I wouldn't say she was totally forgiving, but as much as one could be in her situation.
In the end the two story lines mesh together bringing things to a head for Troy and Grace, forcing them to make a decision about their future together. While it is touch and go there for a while, in the end true love will work it's magic. So, even if it looks like Cupid's aim is off, never give up. Love is out there, sometimes right under your nose. You just have to open your mind and heart and let it happen the way it's meant to be. This one gets 4 stars.
First time trying Robyn Carr. It was just okay. I liked the MC & her beau, the end of the story was...kinda boring. Really good narrator. Maybe this just wasn't the story for me?

I received this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
Thunder Point is one of my favorite series right now and with this one, we are back to Thunder Point with Grace, who owns a flower shop and Troy, a teacher at the high school, both of who we met in the last few books. In this one, Grace and Troy turn their friendship into a bit more, but there's a little bit of drama going on in this book both with them, and with the other people in the town. One of my favorite things about the Thunder Point series is that each book isn't just about one couple, but it continues to follow the lives of multiple people in town. It's really enjoyable because you are almost always seeing the people that you read about before, and seeing what is going on with them now.
I had a hard time debating what to rate this, and for me, it was more of a 3.5, BUT it is ONLY because of my own personal views on some of the things that happened. I didn't want to rate down just because I don't like certain situations or things that were written, because that's my own bad hang ups. Overall, the town is still fantastic, the people are great, and it really was another enjoyable story from Thunder Point.
But, I feel I should share the negative parts, for me, because maybe there are others out there like me who don't want to read about some of that stuff.
1st off, there are pregnancies. A lot of them. Sorry if that's considered a "spoiler" since it wasn't on the blurb. But I don't do pregnancy reads. If I had known there were pregnancies in it, I would have thought hard and long about if I wanted to read it but I definitely wouldn't have asked for it from NetGalley because it affects my views of the book. Most people, I'm sure, have no problems with pregnancies in books. I'm not most people, and I do.
2nd, and even worse, there were talks about stillborn babies and infant deaths. Again, spoiler, perhaps, but I'd rather warn against that. I don't skim my books, but I skimmed these parts where they were talking about that. It is NOT something I want to relive, thank you very much. Those parts of the books were NOT enjoyable for me and I'm sure they may not be enjoyable for most people.
3rd and finally, you have a woman who has been estranged from her mother for 5+ years. All of a sudden, she finds out that the mother is dying and all is forgiven and she's going to be caring for her mother. Perhaps that's what happens, if the mother is just a bitch? It rang untrue for me, again because of my own experiences. Perhaps it's because the person who gave birth to me is pure evil, but there would never be any kind of reunion, no matter what. I would have definitely enjoyed it better if there was no further contact there. But, too many authors have to have that happily ever after, on all fronts, so of course it all ends all perfectly.
One Wish is one of my least favorites of the series, but still a great book. I just have my own issues and personal life affecting my view of the book. Overall, it's a wonderful series, and it's good to read this book to be caught up in the lives of Thunder Point. That being said, as one of my favorite series (top 5 easily), I have to think long and hard if I'm going to continue with the series since babies are going to be born soon, and that's not what I want to read. :(
I highly recommend this series, and this book, to romance fans. Robyn Carr is a great storyteller and I've loved almost every book that she has written. I'm not a pure romance fan, I typically like a little suspense with my romance, but Robyn Carr is one of just a few authors who I can read just romance from because her stories are so great.

Five reasons to grab a cup of coffee and snuggle up with One Wish
Small-town romances, with a slow burn and realistic characters are your thing. Carr creates towns and characters where you want to live and make friends. Life is complicated and friendships are dear. While we get a central romance, Carr also shares side character developments and stories totally bringing us into the town. The romance is slow burning, with character growth and development. Grace Dillon has left a glamorous yet challenging life behind to create a quiet, self-sufficient life to be proud of. She has issues concerning her past, and as happy as she is, she has really cut herself off even with new friends. Troy Headly a local schoolteacher and adrenalin junkie befriends Grace and the too develop a friendship that surprises them when it becomes something more. I love the friends to lover’s trope especially when it sneaks up on folks and Carr delivered something special with Grace and Troy. Carr weaves magic into her stories giving you all of the feels without unbearable angst. Sure, the couple has struggles as each character needs to grow but it has a realistic approach. I adored the banter and wit that developed with their friendship and the slow surprising heat. Anytime a couple enters a no strings attached relationship I giggle to myself, we all know these things get complicated and I love watched it unfold. Side stories that grab and hold you are plentiful in One Wish. Rae Anne’s niece of sorts arrives and while the thread was sad, I am anxious to see how it develops. Troy is friends with folks from Virgin River and they visit for a weekend. Carr updates us on previous couples, some vague and some we are feed more. We even attend a wedding, although the focus was on Grace and Troy it was nice to have these threads wrapped into the story. I love that Carr can weave all of these side stories in while keeping me satisfied with the main story. Grace’s backstory and reveal have our confident hero doubting himself and I enjoyed seeing all of these threads, and relationships come together. While aspects of One Wish were, sad Carr manages to shine light on hope and deliver us an HEA. My only complaint was that the ending felt slightly rushed, but overall the story was another worthy addition to the series.
I received an advanced readers copy of this book from the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
One Wish is book seven in the Thunder Point series. Although it is not necessary to read the first six to follow along, there are many secondary characters in the book that you may understand better if you do.
This was a typical and average contemporary romance. Although there wasn't anything that made it stand out as great to me, there was also nothing that made it the opposite. Did I wish for a stronger connection between Troy and Grace? Yes. Did I find Troy's personality lacking slightly? Yes. He came across a little immature for his age. Even with these slight faults it was an entertaining way to lose myself for a few hours.
I think my only complaint is that the author spent too much time setting up and beginning the story that will be found in the next instalment. I was deep in Troy and Grace's story when all of a sudden a new character and story is introduced in the middle of it. I understand the need to introduce characters when you are dealing with a series but I thought way too much time was spent on it and at a point in the story that interrupted the flow of Grace and Troy's. The stories did eventually blend somewhat but not before causing a slight speed bump.
One Wish is your typical story about two people who are attracted to each other in a tight knit community that you will find in these types of series. There are many characters and personalities and I feel it would be beneficial to read from the beginning although not necessary. I'm glad I had the opportunity to read it.
I had a hard time buying into the romance in this book, due mostly to Troy. I think a part of it is the role that he played in the last book, starting out in this one still pining over Iris, Grace seemed an after thought. While I liked that Troy was there for Grace when her past came into play, his reaction to parts of it seemed childish, let alone his reaction to Grace's announcement. At that point I thought Grace could have done better.
A couple of things saved the book for me, one was Grace herself. I liked how Grace put her past in the past and started to live for herself and what made her happy, a simple life with flowers. When Grace's past came roaring back I thought she dealt with things in a good way, a way that she can be ok with things.
The other thing that saved the book for me was Ginger and Ray Anne. When we learned about Ginger's story my heart broke for her and I often found myself reading through Ginger's parts with tears in my eyes. I loved how Ray Anne dealt with Ginger in a tough love sort of way, Ginger needed that, along with Ray Anne's own story. That went a long way to letting Ginger see that what happened sucked, but life does indeed go on and so will she. I see the next book is all about Ginger, something I'm really excited for.
I definitely enjoyed this book. To me, Troy was a typical man, but all of what Grace had to go through and to come out at the other ending trusting someone was wonderful. I found it funny when Troy told Grace the next time he has brain atrophy to hit him with a club.
I have not laughed so hard when reading a book as I did when the taser incident happened, I laughed through the remainder of the chapter and couldn't stop.
Troy sticking with Grace through what she went through endeared me to him. At times I thought he was a bit cocky, but he was still humble (at the end) and did the nicest little things for Grace. It was great that some of the character were part of this story and I'm excited to read the next book because there were things that will be left for the next book. A possible death, 3 babies and I'm sure lots of adventure.
After the heartwarming highs of Virgin River the Thunder Point series has been a little underwhelming. I've been trying to put my finger on what is lacking, I think it is missing the sense of camaraderie between the residents which spills over into making that town feel like a big warm hug.
In One Wish I see glimpses of what made Virgin River so special. There is much more togetherness between the characters and an interweaving of storylines reminiscent of the best parts of Virgin River. And some really funny lines (Grace's love of her book boyfriends which many a romance reader has swooned over and an interesting encounter with a taser) which lighten some of the more "preachy" aspects of these novels.
Definitely one of the more enjoyable instalments of this series.
I don't know, I just didn't feel the connection between Grace and Troy. It seemed a little fake. I still enjoyed it but I didn't enjoy it like the preceding books. Let see what number 8 brings.
I swear this series just keeps getting better and better. One Wish was such a bittersweet love story that reached out and grabbed my heart from the very beginning. The characters in this story, heck in this town are all so well developed that it's like visiting old friends every time I turn the page. Not only do we get to meet new characters, but the previous ones that we've come to love check in and say hi regularly throughout the series.
Grace Dillon was a hard worker that left very little time for anything else. Her life has become so much about staying afloat that even she notices her life is lacking in fun. I really enjoyed Grace and her work ethic, but she made my heart hurt. The life that she left behind obviously left its mark. So much so that it was like she spent her whole present trying to outrun what she needed the most.
Troy cracked me up. He was the perfect guy to help Grace have some fun. He was great at being the fun time guy, but I was honestly surprised about how he was when things got a bit tough. He seemed much too level headed to react the way he did. With this being a romance novel everything works out.
Although, I enjoyed the story between Troy and Grace very much it was the story between Grace and her mom that intrigued me the most. They had such a complicated past to deal with not to mention a very uncertain future. You could feel the loving foundation they had for one another even though it was hidden so well under years of fear, bad habits and protective walls that they both hid behind.
This series is a definite go-to series of mine when I just want to feel good and visit old friends. I highly recommend for you to visit Thunder Point and get to know the gang.
This book was generously provided to me in exchange for my honest review.
I've always loved reading Robyn Carr's novels and ONE WISH is the perfect way to spend the day. Just me, a big cup of coffee, and my couch, visiting my old friends in Thunder Point. It was great catching up with the other residents from previous Thunder Point books.
Robyn Carr is an awesome storyteller and I have loved every one of her books that I have read. Thunder Point always makes me feel like I'm back home and catching up with friends.
Note: I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Another fantastic installment in the Thunder Point series. I loved both Grace and Troy, and it was great to see their relationship develop. I loved having the familiar characters appear, and I really enjoyed the setting. Anything Carr writes seems to be a winner for me!
You want to read a book that makes you feel like coming home, check out Robyn Carr's One Wish .
Grace Dillon was a professional figure skater who intentionally pulled herself out of the spot light and took up ownership of a florist in the secluded town of Thunder Point. Striving for a life outside the public eye, Grace hasn't told anyone of her true identity.
Troy Headly is a teacher and coach at the local high school. When his heart was broken by Grace's best friend. Troy finds solace in spending time with Grace...just as friends. As there friendship grows, so does their appreciation for each other.
When things seem to be going well for Troy and Grace, Grace's past catches up with her. Troy has a difficult time dealing with Grace's financial security and what she walked away from...
Ultimately, Troy helps Grace face her past while Grace helps Troy move on.
I found One Wish to be a sweet homecoming back to Thunder Point. The characters could be your neighbor or the police officer that everyone knows because they monitors the parking lot during the high school football games.
A feel good, easy and highly enjoyable read, I found this endearing, slow building romance the perfect story to warm my heart on a cold winter night.
I received this ARC copy of One Wish from Harlequin MIRA in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication Feb. 24, 2014.

Loved this author's Virgin River series and many of her non-series books are wonderful, too, but something about the Thunder Point series does not work for me. I don't care to read about teenage angst and young love. This book is young love. I tried to continue reading it hoping it would get better and hook me, but it didn't and I began to put off reading more and more. Finally, time to move on to something more enjoyable.
I did not care for the friends with benefits and I work all the time, but let's do things together. Troy held down 3 jobs and I found it to be unrealistic for him to do all the "adventure/thrill seeking" things he did. He bought a jeep he could not afford, too. Grace is living in a tiny apartment with a tiny fridge and she's 27? She's never had a boyfriend and suddenly Troy who has been hung up on Iris who got married focuses his attention on her because he's bored. Bored with 3 jobs? How is that possible? One of his jobs is teaching high school and he should be pretty damn busy with that alone.
He takes himself to Grace's apartment and all of a sudden he is kissing her? What?
I love my visits to Thunder Point and this book was another satisfying entry. While not as compelling as some of the earlier books, it manages to endear the members of the community while highlighting the two individual, Grace and Troy.
There were some really funny moments in this book while Troy was trying to show Grace how to live a little and have fun. The story highlights one of the things people don't think about when they see young celebrity sports stars....they sacrifice everything to get to the top. Carr manages to show how brutal it is without lecturing but, as a parent, I see mostly the perspective that young children should never be asked to give up so much. Grace turned out to be an amazingly balanced and rounded person despite it all. Her developing relationship with Troy was really well done.
I was glad to see Ray Anne and her young relative, Ginger, am looking forward to more of Ginger in the next book.
After the last installment of this series, I told myself I wouldn't get anymore. I forgot since I automatically buy anything from Robyn Carr. One Wish was better than the last one...but not great. I can't get over how alive, warm and memorable the Virgin River characters are, and how flat, boring, and forgettable these characters are. All of the dialogue, the "voices" are the same. Each character sounds like each other, so it's hard to separate them. And they all seem to drone on and on... I am very sad to say that I'm done with this series. I'll go reread Virgin River for the 3rd or 4th time when I need a Carr fix.
I loved this romantic story of high school teacher, Troy, and of his lady love, Grace, owner of a small but successful flower shop in Thunder Point. Secrets from Grace's past threaten to wreak havoc on her and Troy's new relationship. How will Troy handle his insecurities when he is faced with all that Grace has left behind? So far, this has been my favorite book of the Thunder Point series. I loved it!
We first meet Grace and Troy in The Homecoming.... Troy thinks he's in like with Iris, Grace's friend, but she was in love with Seth. Grace is a former Figure Skater who was Gold medal Champion, and Troy is a History teacher at the local High School. There path crossed on many occasion and in a town were the pickens were slim for single folks, well let say that these two single people gravitate to one another. They are not looking for romance, but it finds them just the same. The figure they will have a "friends with benefits" relationship. Grace has been busy building her Flower shop and she has little excitement in her life, so Troy announces that he is going to be her 'Fun' coach.. So they start out on this so strings relationship, but like all relationship things become complicated, especially when Grace's past come in to play.
I love this books from the first page and as we learned more and more about Grace and her relationship with her mother, we find out just what Grace is really made of and can Troy be the man she really needs him to be. Robyn Carr once again takes us on a journey of love, laughter, and emotions that will touch our hearts. She never fails to bring out such intensity in her characters and makes us want to keep reading her wonderful Thunder Point series books. For me this was 5*****++ book.
One Wish is the latest in the Thunder Point series. Like the previous books it features the romance between two main characters, visits from characters in previous books and the introduction of new character that will probably be featured in future books in the series.
One Wish is a great set up for Troy and Grace’s story. It does not take them long to see that they belong together. If that was all the book was about it would be a novella not a novel. Instead it quickly becomes about Grace’s past and how Troy reacts to it. Throw in a new female character, the wedding of one of the featured couples from a previous books, and visits with some old favorites and you have another great story in the Thunder Point saga.
Harlequin will publish One Wish by Robyn Carr in 2015.
I received an ARC of One Wish from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
