A basic, no frills cookbook for your Instant Pot. There are no pictures or glossy pages; it is just black and white text. This cookbook has an unpolished, informal, and somewhat homey feel to it – like mom and some of her friends are giving you recipes to start off your collection. You know the kind I mean -- handwritten and maybe lacking in detail, yet you still manage to prepare the dish.
The recipes are for everyday foods and cover grains, rice, beans, poultry, egg, beef, pork and lamb, seafood, soups, vegetables, stocks and sauces, and desserts. The directions are simple and the ingredients common. (Well, mostly common. I don’t think I can buy octopus within at least 50 miles of here. But I don’t plan to make that dish so no worries about finding it.)
The informal feel of this book comes from its flaws. There are typos and unclear information – for example, one recipe calls for big eggs. Do they mean large, extra large, or jumbo? Additionally, there is no index and ingredients are not listed in order of use. It reminds me of recipes that you’ve collected over the years from friends. When you start to prepare the recipe you find that the ingredient list isn’t specific enough or the directions aren’t quite right.
I’ve perused several Instant Pot cookbooks, and even with its flaws, this book has the most recipes that I would actually make. So take that for what it’s worth and check it out for yourself.
