I was hugely lucky and honored to receive and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. When the Henchmen found Edison imprisoned when they raided the Abruzzo compound, they weren't entirely sure what to think of the taciturn, tough Romanian. Since then, he has more than proven his worth to the MC, but particularly with his fighting skills and burning drive to right wrongs to abused women. In the Henchmen world, we are not surprised by tough women. Seriously badass women. Like Lo. Like Maze. Like JStorm. And like Lenny, who lives in the worst neighborhood in town amongst the hookers, addicts, drug dealers and all-around scumbags like the Third Street gang who own her building. Lenny works in a nasty old bar where she spends her nights working the late shift selling cigarettes and booze to sleazy guys who only occasionally try to hit on/molest her due to her reputation as a ballbuster. Literally. Ok, so it was only one hand and one nose that were busted, but still. Lenny spends all of her free time and money training hard, learning every single martial art at the gym run by Lo and Maze, and when she hears about Systema, which uses momentum and pressure points, she can't wait to get trained. Edison is the master of Systema, and while their chemistry is off the charts, Lenny's [justified] walls are huge obstacles to Edison getting to know her better, as more than just a booty call. Heart-breaking back histories of both Lenny and Edison make this one of Jessica Gadziala's most poignant stories. This book has it all: beauty, ugliness, violence, loyalty, justice and above all, love. Utterly brilliant!
