Hijinks Harem #1

Elements of Mischief

Rate this book
WARNING: This is a sexy, steamy reverse harem paranormal romance (one girl, four guys) with loads of humor, plumber puns, and group sex. Read with a glass of wine and a smile!

Four hunky, supernatural plumbers.
One reluctant, slightly drunk human.
A match made in heaven … or in the bathroom, rather.

My name is Arizona Smoke, and I'm the proud owner of a house haunted by my dead Gram, best friend to a cocktail dress loving werewolf, and apparent soul mate to four plumbers who also happen to be elemental dragons. Besides rippling pectorals, tattoos, and … uh, nice, long pipes, the guys also have control of the elements.

Supernatural law (whoever heard of such a thing anyway?) dictates that since I stumbled upon the guys in their alternate forms, I have to marry them. All four of them. Oh, and apparently one lousy (okay, awesome) night of sex means that I'm an elemental, too—and no amount of magical penicillin can cure this disease.

All I wanted was hot running water and toilets that flushed, but now I'm dealing with monsters lurking in the sewers, supernatural politics, and four penniless (but totally hot) plumbers living in my crumbling old Victorian.

I'm Ari Smoke, wine aficionado, ex-barista, and a girl who is completely out of her element.
Having four hot husbands is nice … but the death threats, not so much.

<Seriously ?!?! Seriously ?!? How are we supposed to like this ?!?!

Seriously ?!?! Seriously ?!? How are we supposed to like this ?!?!
Hey, I LOVE,Love,Love , a good Menage or Reverse Harem,( only ones where ALL the romantic and sexual attention is focused in the woman) and all the better w/a good story attached, but this ,this soo NOT good!!!
Ok,we have Ari a heroine of unspecific age and description, who doesn't seem all that bright and if she isn't an alcoholic already she's on her way to being there because she thinks everything is better w/alcohol, and that it is the answer and solution to everything...
And sadly I do mean everything , frightened, confused, overwhelmed, scared, don't know how your gonna pay your bills, seeing something crazy in your bathroom, whatever the problem alcohol is the answer.... Or sadly that's what our very much TSTL h thinks ,she's broke so she gladly excepts a referral of some new plumbers just starting out to fix the plumbing in her house, they are elementals and sadly like her like they aren't the brightest or sharpest tools in the shed, they use their elemental forms not really taking care to not be seen by her knowing they could be big and rather bad consequences for this and yet not seeming to care..
She sees them freaks out and now she has to mate w/them supposedly in order to be safe....
gods, I soo wanted to like this but Ari is very much a scream, yell, drink and freak out kinda girl ( while freaking out makes sense) ( her total lack of common sense doesn't )
The guys try to tell her how unsafe she will be w/out them ,but honestly as stupid as she is ,they aren't much better, while she's making another very stupid plumber joke in her head and dear lord are they almost painfully lame, the guys seem more concerned w/getting in her panties (she's rarely ever completely dressed) than making sure she understands everything that's going on and how completely her life has now changed thanks to their stupidly ...
Seriously Ari is the react 1st, question later type, very TSTL,and these stupid guys just let her, even after being told her life is in danger she decides why no go out clubbing ? Seriously ?!?
She almost gets killed for her childish too stupid to live behavior but the guys lusty leering behavior makes them hard to take seriously and they seem to be willing to just let her butt with her own head,if she's dumb enough to run off into danger they seem to be ok to let her... I mean seriously 4 strong muscled elementals and one usually 1/2 drunk human ? They could stop her is they wanted to... this was just a huge mess,Ari was too stupid and foolish and just plain dumb to like ,the men seemed to be more sex than sense just like the h and then to add to it a very slutty bestie w/no filter and little to no sense as herself and it was just a huge train wreck I had to get off when she reacted w/no common sense YET again and ran off (again!) only to get almost killed and kidnapped while her best friend was left for dead or badly injured...
I loved reading Tate James but this was just s mess, I can't believe this is the same person that wrote the incredible "The Vixen's Lead" ,that was an amazing book, but this ...
This is an h is a TSTL Alcoholic who just seems to act, never really thinks and a bunch men who are just as dumb her in their own way...
No thank you

Alright, DNF it is.

I couldn’t take it any fucking longer. I got to page 294, so I’m actually pretty proud of myself for lasting that long.
And I mean.. it was long.

Here are my notes I jotted down while reading this fucking GARBAGE. I hope you weren’t expecting a bad-ass MC. She’s actually pretty fucking stupid and I believe I lost a few brain cells along the way.

The plumber jokes and references were awful. That shit got annoying FAST.

WHY DO AUTHORS THINK WIFEBEATERS ARE SEXY??? I’ve yet to find that article of clothing (let alone its name) sexy. It’s not. Honestly tell me WIFE-BEATER is a good name for a fucking cotton tank top. AND WHY WOULD ANY GIRL BE DROOLING OVER A WIFEBEATER TANK.

I’m really hating all of this inner dialogue between MC and reader. It doesn’t feel authentic. She’s also a fucking moron.

I can’t think of WORSE names to name harem dudes. BILLY???? GEORGE?? REG???!!!!
My skimming eyes would just glaze over Reg and I’d have to go back and reread who the bell was talking.

I’d like my regular River’s and Coen’s to return. Thank you.

Insta love, I can tolerate
Insta sex though....????? Ummm where’s the anticipation?

COCS... I mean... seriously?

This book fucking sucked balls. Everything and I mean everything is a huge fucking deal. I mean let’s be honest.... She needs to take a fucking chill pill and get out. I’m done with this book.

There wasn’t anything of sustenance. Nothing that made me want to keep going. I tried so hard to freakin keep up and I just couldn’t. It was awful. And if I have to see any book with as many plumber references as this one, I am burning everything to the ground.

Excuse me while I go gauge my eyes out.

I went in expecting to love this book, because I know that it was written by two talented authors, but it just did not do it for me.
The plot. We got to the point very early into the story (like, page 30, or something) and mostly, I liked where things were going.
“Complete the ritual by getting laid by four hot but admittedly annoying liars? Or get killed by naked, winged incubi and succubi bitches with guns?
It was kind of an easy choice.”

But, It felt as though the story was all over the place and it was hard to concentrate on one specific plot-line. And it was difficult to take anything seriously, when even the characters did not seem inclined to do so.
Also, and I can't believe I'm saying it, there were just too many sexual scenes. They were, like, everywhere and made it harder to focus. Case in point :
“You still want to screw after seeing your dead grandmother's ghost as she warned you about cuntmuffins?”

I get that it's a RH and there are supposed to be some sexy scenes, but not so many. I genuinely liked the idea for the plot and wanted to explore it, which was kind of hard to do with constant make out sessions and whatnot.
The characters I liked. Everyone had an interesting personality that I wouldn't mind exploring further, plus it seems as though we're gonna have some additions in the next book which I do not mind at all.
I would like to see some connection between the characters in the second book that is not based solely on lust, but other than that, all is good here.

Now, I get that in the great scheme of things it's not really important, but it annoyed me so fucking much that I just had to say it.
Ari would bring the fact that she's a barista every fucking chance she got. For example:
“I was barista, not a goddamn author.”
“I was a barista, damn it, not a mythology professor!”
“I was a barista, not a neurologist.”
“I was a barista, damn it, not a dominatrix”

She said it seventeen fucking times (yes, I counted, that's how fucking annoyed I was). Okey, we got it, you're a barista. Now shut up!

Overall, liked the idea for the plot, did not much like the way it was explored. Will read the next book in hopes that it gets better.

Honestly I tried. I wanted to like this series because it was written by the same author as Spirited (which is an amazing book) so I picked this one since her other series did not appeal as much to me. I finished the first book and half of the second one, not because it was good just because I was hoping it would get better given Spirited was so great. But no, it did not happen so I just gave up.

First: There is no real story in the first half of book one. Just this lady gets forced into a marriage with 4 dudes in the most stupid way ever. Then she is with them but is mostly whining that she doesn’t want to be married but wants to have sex all the time. Doesn’t want a relationship, but wants sex until she can leave. Never does she really protest what’s happening too hard because the sex is too good. Like literally whenever something important or dangerous is happening this idiot is thinking about sex, she can’t focus on saving her life long enough. A bit of a story starts being developed in the second half but it is more of an afterthought.

Second: PLUMBER PUNS. I read the reviews and someone said it wasn’t too much, that it was funny and appropriate. It was not! At no point was it funny, they were mostly cringeworthy. This lady acts like a twelve year old that can not think about sex unless it is in plumber puns or euphemism. I swear there is at least one plumber pun every page and I was reading this in my phone where pages are shortened. It was ridiculous! This writer had to go out of her way and go down the aisle of a repair store and find out all the different tools a plumber uses so that she could do this. Sometimes it didn’t even make sense since as a layman we wouldn’t know the lingo. Just assume she is talking sex. It was just too much, not funny, mostly cringeworthy, so I just started skipping all the parts she was describing a plumber pun when I could.

Third: So many inconsistencies! Keeps saying not to slut shame her very slutty friends but then on the other hand she pretends she is not slutty at first with the guys because she is embarrassed (everyone in this book is very slutty). Blames all her shortcomings on being a barista, can’t quote poetry because I am a barista, don’t understand this because I am a barista, etc. Honestly your profession doesn’t necessarily dictate your intellect, this was just a cop out. She does the same thing with the guys, because they are plumbers. Another big one, her grandmother continuously helps her throughout the books but the lady ignores her EVERY TIME the grandma gives a warning cus she rather have sex/drink/talk to others than to this person who is literally trying to warn her about imminent danger against her life. Also this lady is an alcoholic, in the first book it takes about 3 days before she eats anything all she does is drink and throw up, and you can’t even suspend your disbelief because the characters tell you that she hasn’t eaten and is just drinking. Everyone thinks she has a drinking problem but the lady treats it as a joke and just drinks more as her husbands enable her. It’s pretty sad.

All around stick to Spirited hopefully the second book is as good as the first and just stay away from this one. I honestly feel like I just wasted all this time.

Edit: 6/2020 - the second book of the Spirited series wasn’t great, so disregard above recommendation. Instead pick up one of the better series by either of these two authors. They have a lot of them that are worth reading over this.

What the ACTUAL fuck? This book was absolutely ridiculous. I'm all about the smut for the sake of smut, but this was a wild, rushed ride with lots of forehead-slappingly stupid plumber jokes and plenty of rushed, mediocre sex.

I think the author was aiming for "funny and humorous", but instead ended up with "embarrassingly campy and slapstick". This what would happen if you put the dudes from Three Stooges into erotica.

If you want to write something steamy and erotic with a "real" plot as the secondary goal, you can totally do that, instead of making it seem like a corny super-natural frat party.

I know I keep using the word "corny" and I did search for other adjectives that would fit, but that's REALLY the only word that truly describes this unamusing, wacky train wreck. It was just reminiscent of unpolished teen-aged fan-fiction, at its worst.

In keeping with the whole plumber theme, let's flush this one.

I’m not the biggest fan of reverse harem but every so often a synopsis will have me picking up another reverse harem book. Such is what happened with Elements of Mischief, the first book in the Hijinks Harem series. To me, it sounded like a book filled with things I enjoy – humour, supernatural happenings, and a series worth being addicted to – meaning I was happy to face the reverse harem if the other elements interested me.

Surprisingly, the revere harem was my favourite thing about this book. I did not expect it to be, I never thought I would claim such a thing, yet it is the truth. The reverse harem element was wonderfully steamy, and I didn’t mind it anywhere near as much as I usually do.

My issues were with the rest of the book, and how it let me down.

At first, I thought this would be a humorous read. There was plenty of inappropriate humour to be found, many plumbing jokes, and I was enjoying it. Sadly, it quickly grew old. The jokes were repetitive and desperate. I started by chuckling, then I was rolling my eyes, then I was groaning, before I found I didn’t care for the humour any more. It was too much, ruining the effect. The occasional joke here and there would have been wonderful, but as it was I grew tired of reading the same jokes over and over. I mean, I get it – pipes.

The supernatural element could have been a lot of fun, but it felt a bit all over the place at times. Some elements sucked me in, but I felt as though there was too much and not enough explanation. As our leading lady was new to the world, I would have expected more detail to be fired in her direction – if not, I would have liked for her to ask for it. As it was, she seemed to roll with it far too easily. There were plenty of things I wanted explaining, things I wanted to find out more about, but I was left with quite a few gaps in my knowledge.

I possibly would have considered reading the next book to see how things developed had I cared for the characters. As it was, I didn’t care for them at all. I couldn’t tell you the names of any of the males, I couldn’t tell you how to differentiate them, and due to that I see no reason to continue with the series. It was not the addiction I had been hoping for, even if I was surprised by the reverse harem element.

Overall, I was disappointed by this one – it really could have been so much more.

Meh I don’t know y’all I wasn’t really vibing with this one?? Considered DNF-ing a few times but ultimately I stuck through and I think I’m glad, I mean it was decent fun, but just not one of Tate James’ best in my opinion. Still, entertaining as hell, which was all I really needed!!

DNF. I seriously skimmed through most of this story.

Man, this was just dumb. I feel like I seriously lost a few brain cells after finishing this book, even if I skimmed through it!

IMO, all the MC's were TSTL. Ari, the heroine, frequently mentions that she's dumb because "Oh! I'm no chemist. I'm just a barista." or "I'm no author. I'm just a barista." *insert eye roll* The men, who are lovers-and-brothers, seem to be rudderless, ambitionless, penniless bums that just want to have sex. And somewhere later in the plot, .

The plumbing/plumber jokes were WAY too frequent and too much for me to take. I didn't find the lines funny after the 5th pun. And by the nth mention of someone's steel pipe and her drain needing a plunger, I was SO OVER this book.

I can't believe this book was co-written by the same person who wrote The Vixen's Lead. That book is the reason why I picked up this one (I really liked "The Vixen's Lead") and I have to say that I'm really disappointed by this one. Sorry to the fans.

I heard its a funny book but its not, dnf at 30%. It doesnt even take 3 pages for the hero to reveal their true form to the heroine and tell her that she is going to be their mate...not even 3 fucking pages. The guys wants to have sex with her from the moment they meet and keeps manipulating her to fuck. There was no chemistry or connection..especially cuz the sex seemed so forced and then there are the guys who keeps saying that they have to have sex for the mating thing even tho its not even like 10 pages..yeah... and the heroine is drunk 98% of the time so i dont trust whatever she wants. Really boring plot

This was quite a disappointment. After binge reading all of the Kit Davenport series last June, I immediately fell in love with Tate James as an author. I just finished Groupie by CM Stunich today and like damn that also blew me away. But Elements of Mischief?? It sadly dropped the ball.

There wasn't enough of a plotline to save this one. I was constantly confused by the random supernatural elements of the world and the weird attachment the guys had with Ari as soon as the met her. They basically saw her, decided to claim her as theirs and then moved in. Bada bing bada boom. There was no tension and it didn't even seem like Ari liked the guys all that much.

The whole book was a sex party. Which is fine, but there was no overarching conflict that caught my interest. Or at least not one I could follow well enough. This book also had way too many plumbing jokes. Some were funny, but after about 100 pipe jokes, I was over it. The series has potential, but I don't think I want to invest my time in it.

2.5 Stars.
I didn’t like the main character she was annoying and an alcoholic. The boys were extremely manipulative while trying to be charming. I felt confused for most of the book because nobody could give anyone real information and the plumbing jokes were just too over the top. I enjoyed the storyline but I don’t think the story was executed very well.

I enjoyed this one! Not as much as the Kit Davenport books but it was really good! It was sexy as hell but I think the humor and all the plumber jokes were a little much after a while. I look forward to the next book though.

Frustrating

I love Tate James and C.M S., but this book is a disappointment. I’m sorry, but its true.
RH. 4 guys. Elements. Supernatural. Mystery.

Okay, first off, the main character is weak and clueless. I DNF at 33%, I couldn’t take it anymore.

The guys framed her, forcing her to become supernatural and if she didn’t mate with them, she would be executed but other supernaturals. She is rightfully pissed off, but her hyper-sexualized self fantasies about sex whenever she sees them to the point where it is ridiculous and therefore, her sex drive is more important than logic.

The guys keep lying to her, making her believe wrong stuff and coerced her into sex, which had lasting effects and turned her into a supernatural, against her will and logic (turn the main character on and suddenly she will do ANYTHING they ask).

So then, she finally agrees to mate with them, and whoop-te-do, they are still keeping things from her. Oh! and before they mated she said she was going to leave them (which she should have, as they practically forced her into everything against her will!!) but afterwards she stays with them because they give her orgasms.

Then grammy comes and hints that things are not what they seem.

Sorry, but i’m not into simpering females with no strength who will do anything for orgasms. Also not into trickery and forcing main character to submit or they will die. Its like a complex form of rape and slavery to the supernatural world she wants no part of, and rape because she doesn’t want any of this, but magic makes her do it anyways.

0/5 stars. :(

On another note, I do suggest reading their other series. They are talented authors. but this series is a huge disgust.

I had very high expectations for this book, however, mostly I was disappointed. Let me start with the positive. I enjoyed the very idea of elementals (plumbers or not), especially the part where not all of them are during the initial 'bonding'. Unfortunately, while the idea was good, the execution was lacking.

First of all, I was not happy with the story/smut ratio., i.e. there was much more sex than I though the story warranted. Also, I really hated the "I am a barista, not a (insert whatever occupation/profession/trait you want)". I do understand it was supposed to be funny, but after the first three times it not longer was. The main character was an alcoholic, which added nothing to the plot, also she was hysterical, commitment-phobic (with no apparent reason for that) and basically unreasonable human being. Lastly, I feel no attraction to plumbers, so the constant references to pipes, taps, drains and similar things was very annoying and in no way funny.

So, basically good idea, bad execution, too much forced 'humor'.

Lately, I have been on a reverse harem blitz, and I have quite enjoyed CM Stunich as an author, so when I saw a request for Elements of Mischief, it sounded like something that I would enjoy. In Elements of Mischief we have Arizona Smoke who has just inherited her grandmother's old mansion, and yes her grandmother's ghost haunts the place. In the first chapter, we read as Arizona is having trouble with the plumbing and is referred to Shane and his friends. They arrive and are doing their thing when Arizona walks in on them and is in for the fright of her life as they aren't exactly human. Shane and his three friends are Elemental dragons, and now that Arizona has seen them in their dragon form, she will realize that she has now entered herself into a contract for life as she is now referred to as a Shimmer. Now Arizona is a shimmer, to live and not be killed and hunted down she must mate with not one but all four of them. If that wasn't bad enough, Arizona is about to discover that her best friend Britt is a Werewolf. I have to admit I wasn't overly impressed with this book and I wonder if it was the paranormal spin rather than the reverse harem as lately Paranormal books haven't been sticking with me and I struggled through Elements of Mischief. On the other hand, if you do love Paranormal and in the mood for a Reverse Harem, then check out Book #1 of the Hijinks Harem series by Tate James and CM Stunich as you will be in for one heck of a ride as who wouldn't be with four extremely hot yummy Dragon shifting guys.

This book has ruined puns for me, I never want to hear or read another pun for the rest of my life. Plumber puns or otherwise, I hate them all now. And it warns you in the blurb and you think, haha yeah ok I can handle a few puns, it’ll be fun and quirky. Well no, this was not fun, like at least 35% of this book is made up of puns. That percentage is way to high my friends. I eventually had to just start ignoring them while I was reading because the rest of the story was good. There is a lot of potential for the storyline, and I want to see where this all goes. I just first need to find a way for my ereader to block the words pipe, clog, and drain from my sight lol.

I really tried but I just couldn’t get passed the forever plumber puns and her proclamation of being a barista. Plus the story was falling apart slowly, I just wasn’t even getting any warm and fuzzies about the characters. I didn’t like any of them. Plus they had sex in a dirty room. Gag! It might be good for some but for me it just didn’t work out. I wanted to enjoy the MC and the guys but I just didn’t. This is probably just me, since so many seem to really like it. Love the authors just not this book.

17% DNF 💔🔞

Oookay. This book is funny but crazy as effin sh*t it’s confusing it hurts my head. These characters are waaaay too horny for orgies. If you’re into sexy double-penetration scenes, plumbing both bottom holes then you can read this RH book about getting elemental STD and some sh*t. But if you prefer starting a building romance then nope, this ain’t for you just like it isn’t for me. Sure it’s funny, but i don’t know... it’s just not my taste of RH.

True, Elements of Mischief sounds like a joke. Four sexy plumbers who can turn into dragon looking elementals. An out of work barista with a slutty best friend who has a penchant for canines. She's also being haunted by the ghost of her uptight grandmother. Throw them all together, add in hundreds of plumbing jokes and some seriously hot sex scenes and it sounds like a hoax, not the wildly entertaining book by two of the most talented writers in the Reverse Harem genre. But that's exactly what it is. It's funny, punny, sometimes borderline ridiculous. It will make you giggle. It's sexy, titillating, and provocative. And finally, it's a well-written, creative story.

Arizona "Ari" Morgan Smoke, later known as Sugar tits, Blossom, Honey bun, Sugar plum, Morgs, Smokey, and Duckie has just inherited her Grandmother's house. The house needs work, including major plumbing. The recommended plumbers, Shane, George, Reg, and Billy are every fantasy come to life. Raised together, they are like brothers, and willing to share. Don't let the names or their occupations fool you. They are each cover model hot (with surprises where it counts most) and magical. They are elementals; Shane is air (he's the leader), George is earth (he's a sweetheart), Reg is water (he's an unapologetic pig), and Billy is fire (he's the bad boy and my favorite). They identify Ari as having a tiny bit of elemental in her as well and immediately decide that they want her in their quint, as their spirit. Be careful what you wish for, because you might just get it, and in this case so much more. This 'quint' is in for a heck of a ride; bad guys, mostly long-lost relatives coming out of the woodwork or in this case sewers determined to kill them; succubi and incubi drawn to their sexual energy like moths to a flame, college sweethearts making appearances, and a mystery man we need to locate quickly. In between battling for their lives, the sex in every combination is scorching hot. I was amazed with their stamina. Battle, indulge, battle, indulge. Don't think for a second that this book is just a vehicle for sex. The sex is noteworthy, but it's a well-crafted story with great main characters and a large supporting cast of side characters. It's a well-rounded, completely original paranormal reverse harem.

It's clear that the authors had a blast writing this book. Their enjoyment comes through on every page. I hope that they continue to indulge in these shenanigans for several more books. The corresponding cahoots of this pair is truly something that can't be missed.

What a find! This gem had me laughing at the most unexpected moments, as in accidentally wake the baby from a nap LOL! :) I loved the carefree attitude the lead lady has and of course lets be honest her unbelievable need to guzzle loads of wine "to deal" with the situation is done right hilarious!

I not only fell in love with the men of the story but their individual quirkiness and intriguing personalities! The author does a wonderful job in creating a balance and connection between our wino lead lady and her harem of men. The BFF is an out right crazy werewolf who is the life of party and down for pretty much anything, a must have in a true bff! Lets not forget the Grandma who haunts from the grave and pyscho parents that reappear to steal your life and that of your harem too. The story has a true plethora of crazy, funny and loving characters!

This unique take of a paranormal romance is worth the read and a total recommend! The author brings in fae, elements, witches and so much more. This is truly a laugh out loud story and the metaphors or analogies to plumbing throughout can be a bit unexpected at times ;)

Not my cup of tea
I did not care for Elements of Mischief. It assumed to much too soon. The plumber puns were funny at first but became distracting. There were too many things that left me scratching my head. The last few chapters had some redeeming moments but not enough for me to buy the next one in the series.
**PLEASE NOTE**
I absolutely adore The Vixen’s Lead by Tate James. It is in my top 3 BEST/MUST READ for 2017.

“It’s like a Stephen King novel—rotting undead dragons, a polygamist bad guy who also happens to be my biological father, and the only man I’ve ever loved, a man that I abandoned, reentering my life at the craziest possible moment?

I'm really torn over this book. I loved the concept - a reverse harem will get me every time. I loved the plumbers - well that goes without saying, but I couldn't bring myself to like Arizona (the female protagonist not the place!!).

This story, dragons - or whatever they were - and all, had an exciting plot and suspenseful feel to it. There were twists and turns and revelations to shock but at the same time, it came over a little too immature for my liking. This is probably more to do with my age though and whilst clearly written to entertain, the plumbing gags wore very thin from about 10% into the story. But I read on, and despite being continually reminded that Ari was a barista, not a "..........", the story managed to keep me entertained.

The sexy feel to the story was full of impact, even if Ari kept moaning about having four sexy plumbers, pipes and all, in her bed. Each with their own element to ground them, the plumbers have gifts that help them with their day job and also to keep Ari safe, as well as highly entertained. As mentioned above, there is a further twist in this story surrounding another character which will no doubt be explored further in the next instalment and leaves enough of a question on my lips to make me want to read on, just.

Overall, this was a moderately funny, if slightly irritating, story but unusual enough to entertain me.

Erm, honestly this book felt like it tried to hard and fell short because of it. Far too many plumbing jokes that made the sex scenes unsexy, and the book unfunny. One or two fine, but repeatedly is like someone telling you the same joke over and over and expecting a laugh every time.

I love C M Stunich and I love Para so I felt sure this would be a winner for me. And in the dramatic moments it almost redeemed itself. I honestly don't think this book knew what it was and where it fit, so it became a jumble that didn't. The latter part was vastly improved to the beginning making me consider reading part 2, but please for our sanity, tone down the number of pipe jokes.

2 Uggghhh stars. First off I love Tate James and C. M. Stunich.. I have read multiple series of theirs that I have thoroughly enjoyed from cover to cover. That being said this was not one of them. I don’t even know what went wrong here, it’s really a mess. I thought I was doing a reread of this but it turns out I’ve never read this I must have downloaded it at one time and then never got to it or something...

There were so many things that just really threw me right out the gate. There is almost no world building we, the reader and the FMC, are just thrown in, in what seems to be a sink or swim fashion. In all honesty we spent the whole book basically sinking.. it was terrible. All of the characters were extremely flat especially the guys. None of the characters were remotely like able. All the guys were cocky and up to all kinds of Douchery. The FMC was drunken, whiny, hostile (kind of understandable given the sitch), and honestly really just not entertaining to read about in the least.

We start off all these guys come over to fix the plumbing... yes there are tons of plumbing jokes har har... and force the FMC to mate with them by showing her the supernatural world. Now she must mate with them or die because normal people aren’t allowed to know the truth.. only she isn’t normal, she only thinks she is so why this rule even applies to her no one knows. So while she’s ranting and raving about not wanting to mate with these dudes she just met who seem to have no real good selling points other than their looks she is being hunted for being a norm who isn’t marked. Let me go ahead and reiterate that in fact she isn’t a norm so why this is happening doesn’t make a lick of damn sense. This girl... is a hot mess.. like if she were a real life person I’d be worried for her..

It just boils down to I just can’t get behind any of these characters I think. The small amount of plot we got through the first book, you know the short parts between the smut, cursing, and drinking, cursing, and hostile attitudes and drinking. Yea some of those we had to mention 2x.. it didn’t make much sense. It’s almost like the girl they cast for the FMC just failed it for me...

3.5 CHEESY stars

Ok, so this book was ridiculous, OTT, and Cheesy with a capital C. It is definitely not going to be everyone's cup of tea to be honest, but for some reason, I really enjoyed it

When a book contains a borderline alcoholic heroine, a dead grandma, 4 sexy supernatural plumbers, a villain that the characters call "cuntmuffin" because they can't pronounce or remember his actual name, and a supernatural organisation whose acronym makes for some ridiculously dirty lines throughout the story, you know its going to pretty outrageous and maybe even a bit immature and I think you need to enjoy a certain type of humor to really appreciate it. And yes, I definitely rolled my eyes and groaned at how bad some of the jokes were.

The plumber puns were out of control, the sex was OTT and prolific, and the characters were all not too bright, but the story never takes itself seriously and I think that is definitely some of the charm. Plus, there is a definite plot line mixed in with all the absurdness.

There are few times that the repetition and rehashing of the same joke becomes a bit annoying, i.e. the barista line got a bit old after awhile, but for the most part I just thoroughly amused with the silly puns, witty banter, and OTT sexual inuendos.

This is definitely a book that some will find funny while others will think it is just plain stupid, and that's perfectly fine with me (different strokes and all), but for me, it was a fun, light read that kept me thoroughly entertained throughout most of the story.

Oh my gosh the puns… they were minutely humorous the first time, but it was annoying when the same pun was used the 100th time. Also if I hear/see the phrase “I’m a barista” one more time…

Finally, i was annoyed by the relationship dynamic. I know a lot of people say that the female main character is kind of stupid, but let’s talk a little bit about the fact that this character was introduced in a whole brand new world asks questions, and literally gets no answers. This, none of us get any answers either. Plus, I don’t appreciate the fact that the four love interests appeared, at least in the first 55% of the book, to just be using the female main character.
