House of Payne: Max

TRIGGER WARNING: This book contains flashbacks of violence and drug abuse, and the impact of these factors on family members. If you have issues with these elements, this book is not for you.

Chicago’s premiere tattoo studio, House Of Payne, is across the street from the Mad Cow diner, but it might as well be on another planet as far as waitress Paradise Simone is concerned. She’s a good girl from Waukegan with a past she’d rather forget, and a future that goes only as far as the next day. What does she know about superstars and paparazzi?

But Pari does know danger when she sees it, and tattooist Max Kulagin has it written all over him. A proper Waukegan girl should know to steer well clear, but she can’t resist Max when he leaves beautiful, intimate art sketched out on cheap diner napkins.

Beautiful, intimate art…of her.

Max knows ugliness. He was born in it. Raised in it. Had it shoved down his throat every goddamn day. So when he stumbles across true beauty, he worships it. There’s a deep sensuality in the waitress who likes to suck on her pen whenever he’s around, and he’s just the man to bring that beauty out in her. She might be a lady in the street, but one look at Pari tells him she’s going to be a freak in the bed.

And in the shower.

And while he’s driving with her head going to town in his lap.

The life Max leads might be in the spotlight, but it’s Pari who gets caught in the glare. When her past catches up to her, it’s her life that holds all the excitement, and not in a good way. But there’s no force on earth that can take Max’s beautiful Paradise away now that he’s finally found it.

Pari works at the local diner, Mad Cow, as a waitress. This is not her chosen career, she went to college and has a degree but due to circumstances and a bad experience she has decided to just do this for now. She is quite wary of people she doesn’t know or trust and likes to keep to herself.

When Max starts coming into the diner every day for lunch and leaves his amazing drawings on the napkins for her each time she doesn’t know what to make of it, maybe this is why she keeps every one of his momentos.

‘The man messed with her emotional numbness with his hard-staring eyes, maniacal smile and shockingly intimate artwork.’

Max is a tattooist at House of Payne, a very well known and infamous tattoo studio, which happens to be across the road from Mad Cow. Looks wise, Max screams danger for Pari, he is not the sort of person you want to cross paths with in a dark alley. However, when he and Pari begin to talk to each other she realises that his outward appearance is merely masking just how sweet he is.

‘Everything about him was such a surprise; he looked both extreme and dangerous – and parts of him no doubt were. But the humour that threaded through much of what he did was so charming, it was becoming almost impossible to maintain a safe emotional distance from him.’

Max has had a thing for Pari since the first moment he laid eyes on her, he knows she is masking herself with her purple hair and the way she keeps to herself. There is something about her that he just can’t resist and he finds himself wanting to get to know her. He also has a strong desire to protect her.

When Pari lets her guard down and puts her trust in Max she discovers what it is like to be with a man like him and she loves it. He is very alpha, which is something she struggles to deal with at times, she is very independent. However, his alpha tendencies in the bedroom are very much to her liking, in fact he unleashes the sex vixen in her!

‘I knew you would be worth the wait. What I didn’t know was that I wouldn’t be able to wait for the next taste of you. Now that I’ve had a taste of this crumb, I want the whole cake.’

When Pari’s past comes creeping back into her life Max goes into full on protective mode, now that he has her in his life nothing will stop him from keeping her safe, he wants forever with her and anything that gets in the way of that better watch out!

‘If I’m living the dream, I’m going to be doing it with you by my side. Otherwise it’s not a dream worth giving a shit about.’

Max (H) is super hot!! I want my own Max too!! He’s so protective and obsessed with Pari (h). I really loved their relationship progress, even if there’s attraction on both sides, it was not an insta-relationship as heroine was hesitant at first.

Their relationship was just so intense and the dirty talk was soooo hot and sexy.

No cheating, no ow/om drama and I believe in their HEA as they just have eyes only for each other.

This book was out of left field kind of good. The kind of book that was part of a series of standalone books and now after reading this one, I had to immediately go 1-click the previous books in the series. From the beginning I was impressed by the writing style of the author and the characters she had created which I was so engaged by that I had to block out the world as often as possible to read it.

Max was my favorite kind of leading man. Equal parts alpha a-hole and sexy protector. His past, his present, his personality, everything about him tied in to make a guy I loved, and rooted for, and got a kick out of watching him fall in love and win over his girl.

And Pari was one heck of a girl. What she had to deal with in her past was the kind of stuff nightmares are made of and trust issues are built on. But all the while I admired her strength and loved her funny language choices.

Overall I thought this was a cute story even with its darker elements. It's definitely one that can hold a person's attention. I look forward to the future books in the series and can't wait to catch up on the old ones. I also wouldn't hesitate to check out other books outside this series and would recommend this one to contemporary romance fans who don't mind a slightly glimpse of darkness in their books.

This is book 6 in the House of Payne series , MAX. Paradise Simone (Pari) came to Chicago to escape her painful and tragic past but never thinking her painful loss would lead her to find love. Max Kulagin is a sexy and highly temperamental Russian tattoo artist who works for House of Payne tattoo shop. He has been fascinated with the waitress at the Mad Cow, the diner across the street, since he first saw her. When Max saw Pari for the first time, he knew he found his forever mate but knew he would have to take his time because of the pain in her eyes. Max himself didn’t have an easy childhood in Russia, but he made his way to the states and made his mark with his tattoos. He feels at home at Payne. Max takes his time wooing his soulmate because he sees the damage of the past left in her and he wants her to trust him. When Pari’s past comes back to haunt her, Max steps in to make sure she knows he will always be there for her, no matter what. Is she willing to let him in, to take that chance?
I love how easy these two are together, like they come together like breathing but being honest, it wasn't. Max had to prove himself, he did more for Pari than any other woman and I liked that he had to work for his woman while Pari spent that month secretly falling for him too and secretly keeping the tokens he left for her. The passion and angst in this story was great. I loved how the author built up the backstory on Pari as to show why there was the struggle and the reward that came. It really made this so much more special for Max and Pari.. Max and Pari are total opposites which make them so very workable. Max is a dirty mouthed artist who says anything- like no filter and it makes him so sexy . I can image him saying it with a twinkle in his eyes while Pari is his total opposite. She doesn’t curse, is proper and is a sassy woman. She is locked up tight due to her past but opposites make the best relationships. I found this to be another fantastic installment in the House of Payne series and a must read!!!

Paradise Simone (Pari) came to Chicago to escape a personal tragedy, never imagining her loss would open the door to love. Max Kulagin is a temperamental Russian tattoo artist who takes one look at Pari and sees his soulmate. Max sees the damage in Pari, having suffered himself as a child, and takes his time wooing her into trusting him. When Pari’s past rears its ugly head, Max steps in to make sure she knows she will never be alone again.

Max is a sweet, humorous and very sexy romance between two damaged people who have triumphed over evil and find solace in one another. A fast racy read with cameos by almost all our favorite past characters. Hot and edgy chemistry is highlighted with humor, engaging dialogue, lots of sex. :P A mild suspenseful subplot adds a little darkness to the storyline.

New author to me but when I read the blurb I was like 'I have to read that book'. I certainly wasn't disappointed, this story was highly entertaining... it had fiery chemistry between the two lead characters! Max the hot tattoo artist who is totally swoon-worthy in his relentless pursuit of Pari the feisty, warm-hearted waitress who is running from a tragic past. Fast paced and action packed this book had it all... I need to now go back and read the rest of the House of Payne series.

Max House of Payne 6

Holy smokes this is my first book in this standalone series and it was magnificent. If you have triggers of drug abuse and violence please consider this warning. But onward .. first of all the cover... yes. I love a cove that has just the neck to waist. Its intriguing and eye catching .. beautiful job.

This is Max and Pari's book. I cannot comment on the other books I have not read them but the characters leave me wanting to back track and get to know them. I feel like I was missing out. Not in a bad way just missing out on previous history and stories that would have connected me more to the characters. HOWEVER don't take that is bad .. its not .. it makes me want to go click them up which I fully intend to do.

I loved Max -- if the other characters are anything like him then Stacy has outdone herself in the writing of strong and exceptional leading men.

Pari is a sweet and almost innocent character in the grand scheme of things. Strong yet gentle. Her past though leaves her not trusting and being solid in what she wants for her life. Her sister is something else .. lets just leave it at that.

Max is going to pull out all the stops to show Pari her worth and how she is the one for him. I loved his little swoonish ways and the road to breaking down Pari's walls. The banter between the two characters was comical to say the least and the pages just kept on turning well in to the night.

What a tremendous read --- Love these and can't wait to back track along with move forward with this series. Thank you for the read. Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.

Max and Pari, what can I say? This is an old-fashioned, take the time to get to know you, love story. Max is a large Russian tattoo artist at House of Payne. He didn't have an easy childhood in Russia, but he made his way to the states and found his niche with Payne. He has been fascinated with the waitress at the Mad Cow, the diner across the street, since he first saw her. There is something there, underneath the surface, but Max is a patient man. Once he makes up his mind, he is pure, dominant, alpha, and when Pari starts to agree with him, even he is shocked

Pari lost everything, and is hiding in Chicago. The large Max keeps leaving her napkin art, wonderful pictures he draws and leaves her at the diner. She isn't sure about herself, but Max makes her want to be again, not just exist. It isn't an easy path, and even when she lets him in, she stops short of everything, until it all comes up again. He isn't leaving her though, and she can't bear to be without him. It takes some time, but they know they need each other

I really, really, liked these two. They both fit together so well, and while similar, they are different from each. They compliment each other so nicely, and they are super-hot together, completely scorching, and so freeing for them both, they lose themselves in each other - perfect!

This is a contemporary romance with a touch of violence. This also contains some strong sexual content, not for the weak hearted! You have been warned, fanning myself now. I recommend this for 18 and over, due to the adult language and sexual content. This is book six in the House of Payne series. It is also the first book I have read in this series, but, I was not confused at all. The author did a great job explaining everyone so that I understood how the characters related to each other. I really enjoyed this book, a roller coaster of emotions with this story. Betrayal at its finest, wow, Pari is such a strong person. I could never forgive, or walk away without making sure the job was finished. She honestly put herself first and cut off everything. And Max well, what can I say other than he seems to be a man any woman would be proud to call their own... strong, caring and a mouth like a sailor, with a attitude to back it up... yum. Opposites attract and they complement each other so well.

Pari has started over, literally, she threw away her phone, her previous life and walked away without turning back. She is determined never to revisit her past, only her nightmares still haunt her. She lost everything she worked hard for and strives to never to put herself into any situation that may cause any friction in her new life. She has taken all precautions. Until Max walks into her diner, can someone say be still my beating heart. Max is determined to break through all the walls Pari as built around herself. But will he be the one to protect her if her past catches up to her? Is she willing to take that chance?

favorite passages:
"But boy howdy, had he ever stared at her, as if he was trying to hypnotize her with the weight of his gaze alone."
"This man messed with her emotional numbness with his hard-staring eyes, maniacal smile and shockingly intimate artwork."
"Generally speaking, she preferred books to people."
"She had more important things to think about, like paying bills, and not spilling anything all over him so that she might have the chance to lick it off, and then she would finally know what he tasted like."
"My favorite color used to be blue, but now I think it might be the color of your eyes, which reminds me of the color of rainclouds."
"But the truth was, she'd accidently breathed in his leather and soap scent when she'd gotten close to him, and she didn't trust herself to not stand there sniffing and licking him like a creeper."
"I'm not dead. Neither are you. Whatever fires burned through our lives didn't destroy us. Marked us, maybe. But they didn't kill us."
"She wanted to imprint the feel of him in every nerve, even when the kiss was nothing more than a memory."
"His face was like a stone mask, and his eyes burned with a light that seemed almost violent."
"Invisible fire raced through her so fiercely it was a miracle she didn't set off the sprinklers. "
"Any second now her panties were going to drop to her ankles in spontaneous surrender."
"The black hair, killer cheekbones and pale blue eyes were more than enough, but then he smiled, and it was a smile that could slay dragons at ten paces."
"I'll give it a shot, Trouble, but I think I'd have a better chance at shaving a colony of feral cats with a Daisy razor."
"There is something in me that needs your kindness like my body needs water, and I'll do everything I can to make sure that kindness never fades."
"She has no f**** to give when it comes to being a good girl. Breaking rules is so much more fun than naps."

This is book six in the House of Payne series. I loved this book. In the series, I have to say this one is the standout and my favorite. The pace and writing are good. It is thought out and a bit glamorous but not at the same time if that makes sense. I have to say though this tattoo shop is not at all like any of the ones I have been in. With that being said there are some trigger warning in this book so please take heed before reading.

I totally and utterly fell in love with Max. The broody big and beautiful Russian tattoo artist that sits in the corner of the diner across the street watching his Paradise. He loves with his whole heart and he just makes you melt. Max made my heart flutter. He leaves these little doodles on napkins under his dirty plate. Ok, maybe they aren't quite doodles but never the less he leaves them there for Pari. Max has the dirtiest of mouths and I quite loved that. He has no filter, does what he wants without a care and speaks his mind.

Pari fled her town after being betrayed by someone close to her that she loves and puts first. So she finds herself in Chicago and now she works at the diner and she likes it, though it isn't what she is used too. She is strong and beautiful and doesn't even realize it. She has great friends but has some deep demons.

Max and Pari have a lot in common and are so different personality wise. They both have a past, but Max knew what to do and move on. The chemistry is intense and the lust and tension is so thick. They are compatible together. Max is never wavering in anything when it comes to Pari. Now some may think he is too possessive. I liked it. You knew where you stand with him. Now as to Max with the dirtiest of mouths Pari is the opposite. She doesn't curse and she is actually the good girl. Never wanting to give her parents a problem. He also has demons but as I said he dealt with them. He is just everything she needs. Even when she is strong and proud. He has to prove himself. It wasn’t instant. Now with that, there is a connection it’s just different.I liked how she could put him in his place and let him walk on her. Simply put she is a strong heroine and that is a great change from some of the books I have been reading lately.

I really quite enjoyed this book. I read it one go and did not see myself putting it down. I was disappointed when it was over. I have also come to the conclusion that I want a Max.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book

Sooo, Max is probably some I’ve been waiting forever to read it seems, ever since he started talking to Essie in Steele’s book!!! I knew what I thought he was going liked from his first words and I’m glad to say he was so much MORE!!!! I also had pictured who he was going to look like, hello Josh Mario John!!!
Pari, she is someone who has been through some deep s**t, but she didn’t let that break her. She is someone that has become stronger than even she knew.
Pari works as a waitress at The Mad Cow, love the name, a diner across the street from the House of Payne shop. Max has been coming to the diner for a month and during that month he has left her little drawings on napkins. Sometimes funny drawings, sometimes drawings of her, and sometimes very naughty drawings of her.
As you can tell from the drawings that he leaves her, Max is a artist. He is one of the premier artist at the House of Payne, the top tattoo shop in Chicago if not the world.
I love how easy these two seem to come together it seems almost effortless, but let’s face it, it wasn't. Max has spent that month falling more for the girl with the purple hair and killer butt than he has for anyone else and Pari has spent that month secretly keeping his drawings and falling for him too.
When her past comes back to haunt her Pari thinks about leaving the city to be safe, but after hearing about her past Max vows to do everything in his power to make sure she is happy, safe, and staying by his side where she belongs.
I don’t think I’ve ever smiled so much while reading a book, not laughed just smiled because these are two characters that I can plainly see in my head and having a picture of Max in you head is a good thing!!
Gail did a wonderful job with Pari’s backstory, showed how you can overcome anything, if you have people that love you and you can trust at your side. She also wrote about the family that they have in the epilogue and it seems that Max and Pari get everything that could possibly want to make them happy.
I can’t wait to meet Tag in the next House of Payne story, I just know it’s gonna be a good one.

Good graaaaavy, I love diving back into the House of Payne world. The individuals who Payne has surrounded himself with are bold, a little wild, and 100% fascinating. (And I'm WICKED excited to hear we're getting more books set in this world. WICKED EXCITED!)

But I don't want to get ahead of myself. This is Max and Pari's book. Max, the wonderfully foul-mouthed artist with no filter and a propensity for saying shocking things. He's a hoot. A sexy, dirty-mouthed hoot. Pari is pretty much his opposite. She doesn't swear (except under extreme conditions) and she's battened down tight. She might like the look of Max, but she's not ready to trust anyone after what she's been through.

Until she is. Until Max worms his way into her head with his art and his kindness and his delight at how she's willing to call him out on his overbearing ways. Once he's in her head, it's a short hop to her heart. And his bed. *swoon*

Without going into specifics, Pari's sister...*crazy eyes*. I'm totally with Max when he said she didn't deserve any part of Pari after what she'd done to her. While she did try to make up for her extreme lapse in judgement...I don't know. I guess she's lucky she got Pari for a sister because Pari is much more forgiving than I'd be in her shoes. (And that kindness inside her is a big part of what makes Max love her as much as he does, so...FINE. It all worked out. *tones down the crazy eyes*)

I have serious love for this series as a whole and am completely smitten with every minute we get to spend among the outspoken artists and (sometimes) broken characters in this world.

I have to admit I came to the party late when it comes to the House of Payne series, Max was the first book I’ve read in the series. It was such a fantastic read I went back and bought the first five books in the series. Not having to read the other books in the series I felt it was a perfect a standalone, you didn’t have to read any other books to know what was going on.

Pari was trying to put as much distance as she could between her past and the present. She was doing a great job until she met Max and he made her feel again. Max is a tattooist at the House of Payne and he doesn’t abide by social norms. On the surface they are oil and water but deep down they have a lot in common. Pari is a good girl from a small town and Max is a bad boy from Russia. She thinks he lives a glamorous life being a tattooist catering to celebrities and professional athletes. He draws his art on cheap diner napkins and leaves them for her it’s fascinating for her to get a glimpse of what makes him tick. Finally giving in they to the sexual tension they hook up and they both aren’t letting. Pari lets her guard down and lets Max in. Everything is going famously with the couple until Pari’s past creeps back in and puts her and the life she is building in Chicago in jeopardy. Pari is determined to fight what she has and for Max.

Brace yourself for this book. Go ahead, grab a fan, an ice cold drink, and get comfortable because Max is not only burning hot this book is one you won’t be able to put down for a second! Raw, sexy, and just the right amount of suspense, it’s also surprisingly sweet. Shockingly this is the first book I’ve read by Stacy Gail, and I’m thoroughly impressed. This can be (and was for me) easily read as a stand-alone even though it’s well into the House of Payne series.

Max surprised me in many ways. I didn’t expect him to be as deep as he was, and while I fully expected the typical alpha male ways, I wasn’t expecting how truly caring and sweet he was. There was more than one moment when something Max said or did was so beautifully sweet or romantic that it had my eyes tearing up. His love for Pari was deep and true. Don’t let me make you think he’s not still every bit a dirty talking, sexy, bad boy though because he most certainly is that.

Pari was adorable. Kind and at times seeming timid, she actually had a spine of steel. Her past gave her a quiet strength that was always playing in the background. Despite seeming so incredibly different on the outside Pari and Max were a perfect match. They balanced each other beautifully and have a chemistry that was explosive. I loved everything about this book and can’t wait to go back and read the others in the series now!

Paradise Simone works at the Mad Cow diner, with a past that she's trying to forget, to become one of many. She's a good girl from Waukegan who had her whole life ahead of her, but now only lives day to day. Max Kulagin is a tattoo artist from the House of Payne, which is across the street from her job. He comes in every day to sit in Pari's section, but she recognizes a bad boy when she sees one, so she doesn't give him the time of day. Max wants to make the beauty, Pari, his, and he won't give up until he accomplishes his goal. However, his life is in the spotlight, while she doesn't want to get caught up in the glare, so will she give him a chance? Max was a story that I really enjoyed once I got over the hump, as it was a bit slow for me in the beginning. It's not very often that I don't take the heroine's back, but Pari at times, really had wanting to shake her. Granted, I'm not cold to anyone's plight, so I understood more once all was revealed, but Max, oh Max! He was so yummy, that I fell in love with him from the beginning. And there was a colorful cast of secondaries that kept me laughing quite a bit. Plus, the twists that I thought I saw coming, came out of left field, which shocked the f-bombs right out of me. I do love Stacy Gail's talented writing style, so I need to go & read the previous books in this series asap, and HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well and I was able to keep interested in the story. Read it in one sitting. The story has laughs, pain, betrayal, secrets, steam, and deep heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Payne (House Of Payne #1)
Scout (House Of Payne, #2)
Twist (House Of Payne, #3)
Rude (House Of Payne, #4)
Steele (House Of Payne, #5)

This is Paradise and Max’s story. Paradise works across the street from the famous House Of Payne. She has a past that she wishes everyday she could forget. Now she lives one day at a time. She can spot danger and knows she should stay away from it but Max has a pull on her like no other. But when he leaves she such beautiful gifts on napkins she has to wonder is he has not only a dangerous side but a soft and sweet side. The more these two are drawn to each other the more she is shoved into the limelight. But for her that is a dangerous thing. When her past comes for her will she be ready? Will she lose Max and everything she worked so hard to get? Or will Max make sure no one takes her away from him now that he has had a taste of real beauty?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book and this author.

OMG I've been waiting for this book forever and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I want my own MAX! Ok so know that's out the way lets review. Pari (or Paradise) comes to Chicago to escape some demons from her past. Max knows all about demons and wants to know all about Pari's. Max sees the damage in her and takes his time wooing her over several months (don't worry the books starts after several months of Max drawing on napkins for Pari... so sweet right? (swoon)). Max wins Pari's trust over time and its so great to see her come of out her shell. Max is sweet, and kind (at least to Pari) and OMG he's so freaking naughty! This book has so much chemistry I'm surprised my ereader didn't burn up. The sex is explosive and the love story is just so well written. You also get little insights to all the couples that have come before, which was awesome. Pari's demons decide not to live in the past and Max has to step in and let her know she's not alone. This book has it all. Hot and edgy with a bit of a suspense and an alpha male thrown in. If you haven't read the other books in the series you don't necessary have to but I would recommend you do cause they are awesome as well! Reviewed for HeadTripping Books by Amy

Max is book 6 of the House of Payne series and is a stand-alone. I have not read the other books as yet. You do not have to read the others to enjoy this, House of Payne provides merely a backdrop to Pari and Max’s love story.

Pari is a beautiful character and her relationship with her sister is portrayed in an honest and realistic way. The sister’s complicated history is what has brought Pari’s to her current life in hiding.

Maxi is wonderful, he is protective yet brash in the way he eventually gets Pari to soften her armour. He persists with his desire for her and allows her to find her heart and hope again.

There is actually plenty of humour in this story which is surprising. It is placed at moments that are perfect to the flow of the story.

Max and Pari’s sex scenes are aplenty and they are varied and very enjoyable to read, he is definitely dominant in that respect.

This story is concluded as all readers wish, you get to see them into the future and they are simply a wonderful couple to read about.

He wanted to make sure the world understood that Paradise Simone should never be fucked with, because she was his. She was under his protection, because she was the treasure he’d worked his ass off to earn. Therefore, if someone chose to fuck with her, then God have mercy on their souls. Because he would not.
3.75 stars
Max is fantastic, so let me just say that upfront. That man is hot and sexy and oh so romantic and sweet. I adored that he went in all the time and left her a napkin of his drawings each time. I loved him in prior books and I love his blunt-talking—though honestly, given how blunt and explicit he's supposed to be, I would have thought he would have been more so in this book. There was actually more dirty talk in Book 5 though, Steele, than in this one.

The first half of this book was great, and it was riding a definite 4-4.5-star rating; the second half started going downhill a bit though. All of the problems for me came from the subplot and the heroine. From the beginning, Pari was kind of annoying. For example, it made no sense to me that she started waitressing and didn't go back to what she was doing before ()—because it's OH SO dangerous?? Yeah right. In this one circumstance, what happened to her (which I have separate problems with) made it dangerous, but it is not an inherently dangerous profession in any sense. It is absolutely stupid and could only be because Gail wants her to be waitressing so that she meets Max, which is fine, but she should have come up with a more legit reason.

In the second half of the book, she really started getting on my nerves, and frankly, Max did a bit too. Pari became kind of a drama queen and Max became over-the-top with how aggressive he was towards Pari's sister and how over-protective he became about her—given the threat, a certain amount was well-deserved, but he took it to another level and it seemed like it was going to be a constant thing well after the current threat was over. When Pari is telling Max what happened and she keeps on talking about how she was worried about her sister and Max responds it's because she's such an angel and good person—blah blah blah, couldn't stop rolling my eyes; I don't know, seems like a normal reaction when you think your sibling is in danger, it's not like she's not a saint on earth. Also, how she was all chained up and repressed her entire life because she was trying to be the good older sister? Get over yourself, seriously.

Oh and the entire subplot with what happened to her back in her hometown—I wish it hadn't been slowly revealed to us as time went on, and that we'd gotten more information upfront. A HUGE problem with the subplot/what happened: . Also, I think both Max and Pari held way too long a grudge (through the epilogue, which occurs several years later) against her sister; she was addicted to drugs at the time, she was crazy out of her mind—once she got out of recovery and spent several years proving herself, they definitely should heave healed the breach.

Regarding the sexy times, I was surprised that it actually kind of seemed a bit tame. Maybe this is because I read it after Steele, which is very high on the sexy-times/chemistry-meter, but especially given how Max is supposed to be all dirty, explicit, and a hound-dog, I thought there would be more. I was especially surprised when it was cut-off sometimes—we were told how they were about to get all down and dirty ... and then the chapter ended.

His fingers tightened on her hair and he brought her mouth to his even as he spoke against her mouth. “Say you love me. I want to know what those words taste like on your lips.”

This book in the House of Payne series is about Max and Pari (Paradise). First off, I honestly feel bad for Pari and her sister because those are awful names. No really really bad. The story is part of a series that is centered around the tattoo shop, House of Payne, and the people who work there. Some of the aspects of tattooing are hit upon, but some I kind of was like really?? They mentioned this shop was a real artists studio, but then some of the conversations between the characters made it sound like the tattoo artists didn’t always know what they were doing on their next appointment. An expensive tattoo studio that prides themselves on their art are not going to be doing cover-ups on someones bum. They just aren’t.
All that said I still enjoyed this story. The leading characters, Max and Pari, kind of fell for each other instantly. The book was long, but even so it felt like these too got together quickly. If you like bad boy insta love books this is the read for you. The sex was hot,and while they frequently had sex those scenes were kind of brief. The author didn’t drag them out. Just kind of intense, and in the words of Pari, Bang-Zoom to the Moon. Their issues were these long drawn out problems with miscommunication, and while they had bumps in the road it was usually resolved followed by a round or two of make-up sex. Overall I really enjoyed this book. I have not read any others in this series, but I will be picking them up and adding them to my must read list.

Another fantastic installment in the House of Payne series! This can be read as a standalone.

Max and Pari were so perfect for each other. I loved that Max was patient and persistent, without being pushy. He just showed up each day and left napkin art for Pari. Pari has had a really, really rough year and isn't ready to trust anyone or let anyone close to her.

When she finally opens up just a little bit, she finds a kindred soul. Something Max had recognized right away. Their differences made them so complimentary to each other.

These two had great chemistry and I loved their witty banter! There was more than once I might have laughed out loud. Once they get to the sexy times, watch out! White hot scenes! I loved that Pari wasn't shy at all about her oral fixation or anything else she wanted.

Max and Pari were solid from nearly the beginning, with just a small hiccup early on which was quickly resolved. Once again, Stacy Gail weaves a solid story reminding us that you can walk through fire and come out the other side stronger.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I'm quite impressed!

I loved this protective, domineering, sexy, artistic Russian badass, Max. You just can't help yourself. When he sets his sights on the waitress, Pari, who works at the diner across the street from the upscale tattoo studio he works at, there's no stopping him. Pari, however, does everything she can to keep him at arms length while also trying to protect herself from her past and all the danger that comes with it. This book was sexy good with 5 stars following it ~ and I recommend it strongly for your reading pleasure!

This is book 6 in the House of Payne series, however, it can be read as a stand alone. You can bet I have also went out and purchased the first five books in this series after reading this one

This book was given as an ARC for an honest review.

From the first pages of this book I was hooked. When you’re in work and you tingle when you think of picking the book up later.....it’s been a long time since I’ve had that. But this book brought it.

This is the story of Max and Pari.
Talk about the feels and alpha males. I think Max takes Top Alpha title. For a bulk of a man he is so tender, so in touch with feelings (especially Pari’s), so protective and just too damn hot.

Both characters have had trouble in their pasts but whereas Max used his past to make himself stronger, Pari’s troubles are all still too fresh and they make her vulnerable and standoffish, with walls up.

Their story is amazing. I’m super in love with Max. My mind is totally blown.

The other characters in this book add to the story of Max and Pari in a great way. I can’t wait to go back and read all their stories.

Unusual, unique, definite page turner, addictive and Max boy oh boy. Stacy just can’t seem to go wrong when it comes to her House of Payne series and Max is an awesome addition to it. Life is never easy and our past very rarely stays in the past. Max has always been a favourite of mine from the glimpses we have seen in earlier books and when Stacy released his story I was over the moon. I opened the book and immediately got lost in the story that was Max and Pari, to the point I almost balled like a baby when I hit that final page. Each book in the series can be read as a stand-alone but personally I suggest start at the very beginning because you then have the background that surrounds the characters. You’ll be hooked just like me.

This is the first time I have read any of this authors’ work, but goodness; it will not be the last, as I cannot wait to get 1-clicking the others! Paradise has been broken mentally and physically, and she just wants to move on the best way she can, and now works in the Mad Cow diner as a waitress. She is fascinated and intrigued by the sexy bad boy Max, who works in the tattoo studio across the road, and keeps leaving her beautiful drawings on napkins. This is a steamy storyline, which is beautifully written and had me hooked and captivated from the very beginning. I will certainly be adding this author to my favourites and 1-click list for the future. Amazing work Stacy!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book!

Mad Max

I was wondering how you would portray Max as a main character. It's interesting to see how Max the king of dirty jokes and cussing found a match in Pari a woman who can't even get herself to cuss unless she blows her top which is very rare. I loved the confrontation between sisters and the hospital scene I think Pari needed that to heal. The epilogue was surprising especially Bosko and Edie haha. The wedding my lord I wish I could have read about that! It sounded so unconventional and crazy! I'm very curious about Tag because he's only mentioned in passing there's been not a single scene with him in person in the entire series which is surprisingly since you normally introduce the next character in the book before it.

This is the first time in reading this author with the story drawing me to this one. Danger is in this one of a different form with it being also one that could take your breath away. He was different also in the way he caught her attention at her work. Max and Pari (Paradise) are centered in this one with the way they grow will capture you bit by bit. They could also cause a warning to go out with the heat they generate. You learn about trust in this one from these two too. Drama does not skip this one either it will grab you by the throat. You will find it hard to put down from beginning to end.

House of Payne , a five star series.

Oh, how I enjoy the HoP books. Everyone as great as the last. Max is a hoot, a sexy Russian with artistic talent to burn. He sees a pretty new waitress at the local diner and is taken by her immediately. Pari, has landed in Chicago from Wisconsin. She is running, but something about the inked hotty who leaves beautiful art on napkins for her has her reeling. Park has a story, Max does too, they are wonderful characters who are great together. Love this.

Received an ARC at no cost to author on behalf of Enticement Journey Book Promotions

Can I get my very own Max? We have two damaged souls who found each other and it was time that they had someone in their corner just for them. Max is hot and sweet and funny, but when push comes to shove it is good to have him in your corner..We have a some suspense and sometimes the story could be dark, but since we get a little of everything it is not overwhelming.. I think what I liked the most, was how protective he was and no cheating...

I was excited to see Max get to tell his story.

Not your typical bad boy good girl but a beautiful love story. Max in all his Alpha glory heals Pari in a way that allows her to be who she really is. A scorching page turning read that will have you rooting for this couple over and over. A threat from Pari’s past adds just enough tension and the secondary characters that enhance the storyline make this a must read.
