Rebecca Monroe hasn’t had the best life, but since she escaped and started again with a new identity, she’s been working hard to be a normal college student and make something of herself. Turning her passion for dance into her dream job is nearly a reality, until someone from her past threatens it all and Rebecca finds herself on the run.

Jake Griggs has got it all. A loving family, a college education and more women than he knows what to do with. A bad case of mistaken identity threatens to blow his easy life wide open, until his brother Jonas sends him on a job to observe, report and protect a young woman he’s pledged to keep safe. There’s just one condition – Don’t get too close.

What should be a simple mission, turns into a roller coaster love story as both Jake and Rebecca realize that just because you’re existing, it doesn’t mean you are alive.

Alive is the third instalment of the Soul Mates Series and if you loved the characters of the Soul Sisters Series from Hawkstown then this book will definitely set you on fire.

Alive is the third book The Soul Mate series, and Victoria Johns has delivered another winner. If you’ve enjoyed the prior books in the series, you’re guaranteed to love this one.

I was introduced to Victoria Johns through ‘I Wanna Get Laid by Kade’, which she wrote with Nikki Ashton. From there, I wanted more. Thus, I dived into The Soul Mate series. The first book, Survivor, was a wonderful read that left me wanting more. The second book, Deserved, was a different kind of wonderful and cemented my love for the series. Book three, Alive, has merely confirmed why I find myself excited when I see a Victoria Johns book on my Kindle.

Book three follows the story of one of the characters I came to love in book two, one of the wonderful twin set. As soon as I found out which character we would be following, I was all kinds of excited. I loved Jake so much in the prior book and couldn’t wait to get to know more about him, eager to see Jake in his entirety. He seemed like such a fun character, more complex than people seemed to believe.

At first, I was a little bit worried about his story. It started off with an event that left me questioning whether or not I would be able to fall in love with Jake in the way I had been hoping to. Fortunately, things started moving quickly and before I knew what was happening, I was a goner. I was pulled into Jake’s story, and I could not put the book down.

What really won me over, though, was the links in with book one. Our female lead takes us back to a character briefly introduced to us in book one, a character I was not expecting to see again. Through this, so many elements from the first book were brought back to our attention, taking us back to characters I had been missing. Whilst this book works perfectly fine as a standalone novel, you’ll have a much better appreciation for events if you’ve read the rest of the series. It’s not a necessity, but it does allow you to see the way things link together.

With a character I loved from book two and a surprise reappearance from book one, I quickly found myself lost in this story. The chemistry between the two characters was wonderful, and I found myself lost in their story. I felt as though things played out between them a bit quickly, and certain elements of the story were solved a bit too easily, but I was able to overlook these factors as I was so in love with the characters.

Honestly, this was a wonderful addition to the series and I’m so excited for book four. I didn’t realise book four was to be the last, and I’m now heartbroken at the knowledge I only have one more wonderful book left in this series.

I didn't want this story to end.

I loved the characters and I wanted to keep reading about them and stay with them.

I love a story with substance, depth and meaning and Victoria Johns delivers, giving you the skin, meat and bones of the story.

Alive is a story of new beginnings, new direction, making amends, turning over a new leaf and more importantly for Rebecca, to finally have freedom and experience just Living without looking over her shoulder.

Rebecca hadn't had the greatest start in life, a drug addict mother and a Step father who had left leaving her to pay off his gambling debts the only way she could. Rebecca was a dancer and the crime family she had been given over to used her for their own means.

I have read previous books and I couldn't wait to read Jake's story he was a man whore, a Jack the lad the twin half to the sensible brother, he made me laugh in the previous book and I was itching to see what sort of girl would turn his world around.

Rebecca is that girl, they are a perfect fit and the moment Jake saw her he was done for only he had been sent on a mission by his brother Jonas with strict instructions not to touch and to keep it in his pants.

Rebecca who was previously Raven had a new identity and had been helped to start a new life by Jake's brother which was now in danger again. Jake owing his brother a favour after messing up yet again was sent just to keep an eye out for Rebecca and report anything suspicious.

Rebecca was a dancer in a club and had come under threat once again and seeing this Jake intervened taking her to safety.

Jake's one task to just watch Rebecca failed but was also a success, it brought the two of them together.

The connection and sizzling chemistry between them was unstoppable and Jake fell hard and fast.

"Kissing her was like taking in vital oxygen and I was worried I was never going to get enough".

All Rebecca ever wanted was to live a normal life and Jake helped her to finally find it.

A heartwarming story, an interesting and addictive plot with great characters, sizzling sex scenes that were brilliantly written and moments of humour.

Alive is what I call an all round balanced read with everything within it's pages I love.

This book can be read as a standalone but is also interconnected with characters from previous books also present.

Told in first person's dual pov and leads to a hea.

Arc gracefully received by author for review purposes.

Rebecca Monroe had been hiding from her harrowing past – a past that had her life in shambles and disgrace. Armed with a new identity, she sought to find peace and quiet in her new life. But with her passion in dancing was detrimental with her past finally catching up on her and soon she realized, her life was in danger. Again. Rebecca had a lot on her shoulders after realizing that she could never escape because the eyes of the one she was hiding from were suddenly looking at her.

Jake Griggs couldn’t keep his pants on, he enjoyed having women to his beck and call. In other words, he’s the ultimate playboy. But a bad case of mistaken identity had him escaping the clutches of a woman and the wrath of his brother. A new job had him flying across the continent and soon he was looking at another woman dancing her blues away and vowed to protect her with everything he had.

ALIVE by Victoria Johns cost me a couple of precious hours of sleep but I don’t regret it. I loved how the action and intensity built up as the story advanced from one page to another. This book literally kept me alive in the wee hours of the morning, as I held my breath for Rebecca Monroe and Jake Griggs.

Getting involved in a Mafia-like family could be horrific, but being involved in hot gorgeous twins unsuccessfully telling them apart was a nightmare. But that’s just me. At first, I really wasn’t into Jake because he was the kind of guy who slept around and didn’t take relationships seriously. But as he learned more about his brother’s secret mission, he became a changed man. He finally got into my good graces and I fell hard for him.

I liked how Victoria Johns continues to make the series more engaging and sizzling. Although I was a little despondent at how the issue with the Mansion turned out. I thought Rebecca’s situation needed more action and conviction. But seeing how she finally was able to breathe again, and after seeing how she dealt with another woman in the past, I knew it was for the best. I can’t wait to read all of Victoria Johns’ other books.

Alive by Victoria Johns stirs a perfect combination of emotions in the reader. I went from anxious, oh, how sweet, to tense believing we have a traitor, then back to tense. Finally, thinking I can’t believe how much I love Jake after he started out as such a hurtful jerk. Alive is the third book in the Soul Mates series. Alive is nicely written with strong, captivating central characters.

Jake Griggs is the member of a family of biological, adoptive and foster siblings. Barbara and Harrison Griggs, Jake’s adoptive parents are people who have that unique type of devotion that allows them to take on children that need love and stability to turn their life around. Jake and his twin brother Jack are two of the recipients of that special love. However, Jake is often a mess in his personal life. When we meet him in Alive, he is waking up from a drunken night that ended with him sleeping with his twin’s girlfriend. What started as a hook-up due to mistaken identity but continued even though he knew what he was doing. Yes—Jake is a jerk and hates that he betrays his brother.

Rebecca Monroe is a young woman who only knows the dark side of life. Her parents are addicts of one kind or another and used her to pay off debt until one day the situation became life-threatening, and a savior came to her rescue with a new identity. She felt hopeful about this turn of events until her past comes back to threaten her. Jonas, Jake’s older brother, sends him to monitor Rebecca’s activities and evaluate if she is in trouble.

The characters in Alive are great. Jake does a lot of questionable things, but it is evident that his heart is truly with his family and close friends. I love the way Jake tries to protect Rebecca without getting physical. He doesn’t want to disappoint another member of his family. However, his attraction to Rebecca is stronger than anything he has experienced with a woman and he doesn’t know how to interpret or deal with the attraction. He’s doomed. He needs to decide if he will push Rebecca away or suffer Jonas’ wrath.

Rebecca is a strong, young woman who still dreams of a “normal” life despite a past that doesn’t give her a reason to hope. I love the feistiness of the character. She is a cautious woman who works to advance while planning for an escape if necessary. Rebecca has a soft, tender side that comes out around Jake and his family.

The support characters are interesting people that add to the story. They show a lot of the characters’ true personalities of loyalty and devotion. I love the way Jake’s family accepts Rebecca into their fold and show her a kindness she hasn’t known in her life before them. These characters make an impression sufficient to build a need for me to read the other books in the series.

Before Alive , I only read one other book by Victoria Johns that she wrote with Nikki Ashton. Ms. Johns is very good at building anticipation for the reader to turn the next page quickly. My only small criticism is that a few times the author slips back to her British roots and pulls the reader out of the American setting. It isn’t a big problem just a little funny at times. The story of Rebecca and Jake wraps up nicely and raises questions about what is next for Jack, Jake's brother. Whetting the appetite for the next book in the series. If you like a good romantic suspense story, I recommend Alive . Trust me it will keep you turning the page.

I encountered Victoria Johns writing when she co-wrote “I Wanna Get Laid by Kade” with the fab Nikki Ashton. I was intrigued to find out what else she had out there, and discovered The Soul Sisters Series (which I devoured over a long weekend) followed by The Soul Mates of which “Alive” is the 3rd book. We have encountered most of the characters in all of the previous books, (definitely recommend them to get to know who’s who!)
Alive centres around one of the twins Jake (foster brother to Dolly and Jonas- Fostering Love). We briefly learn a bit about Jake when he is introduced as Lacey’s best mate in Deserved ( 2nd Soul Mates book). We meet a total player who see’s what he wants and goes for it, without any objections. He is fiercely loyal to those close to him, that is until he wakes up, in a strange bed and is horrified to discover that bed belongs to his twins girl.
Big mistake and he needs to get out quick, and that is when he turns to big brother Jonas who has the perfect job for him to get him out of the way so things will hopefully get better with Jack his twin.
During the excitement that was Survivor (Soul Mates Book 1) Ross Wilkes , Jonas’ Military buddy encounters a young girl in a seedy club, who is being made dance to pay off someone elses debt, and catch wealthy, influential men in a honey trap. That girl was Raven, now Rebecca and her senses tell her she’s in trouble again and contacts Ross. He gets onto Jonas, to send someone in to observe and report, and that someone is Jake. The story proceeds with Jake discovering Rebecca, finding it hard to keep his distance and with lots of danger, suspense and some very steamy scenes. I was actually getting nervous as they got ready to run. They both find themselves in a situation they have never been in, having actual feelings for someone without the physical side coming in to play (well not for a while anyway). Fabulous read and I couldn’t put it down, so it was read in 2 days. Another additive read from Victoria. Can’t wait for the next one.

I loved this book!!! Alive is the first Victoria Johns story I’ve ever picked up but by no more than 25% into this read I knew I’d definitely be going back to read her other books in both the Soul Mates & The Soul Sisters series - as well as stalking, sorry following, her on social media!

The main characters were fab. Their connection flared hot and never wavered. Both had pasts they weren’t proud of and neither had found their sense of truly belonging until they met.

Intrigue, action, betrayal, strong characters & loads of love (as well as some smoking HOT down and dirty moments) along with humour and an entertaining supporting cast (who’s books I’m looking forward to reading, even though I know who ends up with who) all added up to a thoroughly fab read that kept my attention and had me rooting for Jake & Rebecca.

I really enjoyed VJ’s writing style and her ability to make us feel like we’re there with the characters, watching things unfold. I thought Alive had a believable and heart-churning storyline (especially when you consider all the bad stuff we read about in the news in a regular basis that are not dissimilar to the hell Rebecca lived through!)

I especially liked the epilogue and cannot wait to catch up with everyone in the next (and final?!) instalment in the series,

This book gets 5 shining stars from me.

Wow, what a bunch of emotions this book opened up in me. Normally it takes a man to cry to get me going. However, with this book that was not the case.

I wish I had picked up a Victoria Johns book way before now. I love her style of writing and the emotions it can bring. There was a part in the book that I kind of wish went a bit further and darker, but that is just my need to want that bit more and not a reflection on Victoria's writing. It still lead to a great story. I now just need to go and read the first two books in the series.

Rebecca's life didn't start off the way it should for a child. Never knowing what real love was and having to live a lie. A stranger bombards his way into her life and everything she has built for herself has to be left behind.

Jake, OMG. He is all kinds of hotness. A total Jack the lad. Sleeping his way through everyone and everything. All that comes crashing down after a drunken night of sex. The ultimate betrail leads him to having to rethink his life. Sent on a job by his brother to watch over Rebecca, soon makes him see the differences and the sacrifices one must make. Having not only himself to think about anymore soon makes him see things from another angle.

Can the past in both of their lives be healed to enable them to move forward?

Ah, Victoria Johns... how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. There’s something so refreshing about being able to pick up a book and knowing with complete confidence that it’s going to blow your socks off, simply because of the name on the cover. Victoria has become one of those authors for me. I know before I’ve turned a single page that I’m going to become lost in the stories she weaves and the characters we fall in love with over and over again. Each time I pick up a book of hers, I think it can’t possibly be as good as the last, yet each time she proves me wrong. She’s rapidly becoming one of my unicorn authors.

Alive, for me, was her best book yet. The story had everything—romance, ovary exploding sex, danger, just the right amount of suspense and a couple you just can’t help loving. Watching our favourite Jack the lad, Jake slowly falling head over heels for just one woman was so beautiful to watch. I loved every second and didn’t want it to end. Rebecca was a fantastic female lead. Caught up in a seedy world in which she doesn’t belong, all she really wants is the freedom to do her own thing—dance—and not look over her shoulder everywhere she goes. I loved the chemistry between the characters. Every scene with the two of them seemed to sizzle off the page. Another absolute beauty from Victoria Johns. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

Well I literally devoured this book in 3 and a half hours, once I started I really didn't want to stop. Rebecca is in trouble and Jake is sent to help with strict instructions...keep it in your pants. The chemistry between then is too strong to ignore and Jake the man whore is suddenly discovering feelings for the first time in his life. It's not plain sailing for the two of them and with Rebecca still in danger, Jake is determined to save her. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this as much as the rest of the series, looking forward to more.

I absolutely adore how the author can write about real characters that are not far fetched but that are normal and the humour as well .
The last scene will stick with me will not spoil it but involves a uniform a pole and music.. wow
