The Callaghans & McFaddens #4

Believing in Tomorrow

Rate this book

Featuring characters facing a crisis of faith, this Christian romance novel of 100,000 words is the fourth book in The Callaghans & McFaddens series from USA Today bestselling author Kimberly Rae Jordan. A HANDFUL OF FLOWERS (ASIN: B01APAIXM6) is the prequel to this series.

In the blink of an eye, her forever turned to never.

Jayden Murray had promised he loved her and saw forever with her, so Sammi McFadden allowed things to go further than she’d known was right. But instead of proposing, Jayden tells her he’s fallen in love with someone else. Heartbroken at not just the loss of her dreams, but the loss of her innocence, Sammi heads down a path that is riddled with decisions contrary to what she'd been raised to believe were right.

He’d always taken on responsibility when necessary, so he could do no less for her.

Levi Weston isn’t sure what to make of things when his one-night-stand shows up on his doorstep three months after the fact…pregnant. As with every other issue that’s arisen in his life, he is willing to take responsibility and do what’s right. However, as he gets to know the mother of his child, Levi is confused by the guilt and shame that seem to weigh so heavily on Sammi.

Sammi’s faith is as foreign to Levi as the idea of becoming a father, and though he wants to learn about both, he hates the idea of his child being raised in an environment of shame. As he and Sammi grow closer, Levi realizes that things are more complex than he’d realized.

Sammi struggles to accept the consequences for her actions and to live with her new reality—unwed mother instead of wife and then mother. Though it eats at her soul, she feels that the judgment she faces because of the choices she made is her lot to bear.

Can Levi get Sammi to see that their child deserves better? Or will she lose everything she’s dreamed of for her tomorrow because she can’t accept that forgiveness is hers for the taking?

As with the other books I have reviewed in The Callaghans & McFaddens series I take issue with the notion that these are stand-alone offerings. Each book advances the narrative of this blended family through the eyes of different family members. At times the story of one book is concurrent with that of another book with the events viewed through the eyes of different characters. For the most meaningful and enjoyable reading experience, I recommend reading the prequel and the other books of the series in sequence.

Unfortunately, this offering contains far too many editing errors to be worthy of a five-star award. I was a bit disappointed that the author elected to abandon her previous approach to writing clean Christian oriented literature without being preachy. Instead, she has extended passages where she preaches theological doctrines taught by her faith based on the interpretation of specific scriptures, but which are not consistent with principles taught in other Christian churches. The areas where Christians agree with each other is significant. When it comes to theological doctrine, however, it might be prudent to leave that to theologians to debate.

The overriding theme of this book from a Christian standpoint was about dealing with pregnancy out of wedlock. The author masterfully explores this subject. We all make mistakes, some more egregious than others. I recommend this book for those who would like insight into how significant errors affect all who are involved, whether it be as the one making a mistake, an innocent bystander, or those who love them. Most importantly, it demonstrates that there is a path to a happily ever after, even after egregious mistakes.

Believing in Tomorrow

This was a touching story. Realizing how Sammi let shame cripple her by feeling that her mistakes robbed her of Gods love. Levi on the other hand was very interested in finding out about God. It was good to see characters from Home to Collingsworth. A wonderful love story.

Believing in Tomorrow tells the tale of sin and grace in such a clear and beautiful way.  As with other books by Kimberly Rae Jordan, the overall tone of the book is serious, and the subject matter deep.

As Sammi experienced Jordan's betrayal and experienced the numbing grief as she realized that she had given him something she could never get back, I could feel her pain.  And as her choices that night went from bad to worse, I got it.  It totally made sense why she did what she did, and despite the fact her choices were stupid, the author did such a great job in showing her thoughts and motivations, it made sense.

Levi also experienced the pain of betrayal, in his case, by his brother and fiancee.  As a man who had no Christian upbringing or understanding of sin, his choices made sense as well.  I love that despite the fact that Levi's brother stole his fiancee AND tons of money from his business, Levi still struggled with whether he should report this to the police.  He also showed such kindness to his mother despite the terrible way she treated him.

Sammi's parents were introduced in the prequel to this series as loving, Christian people.  So when Sammi finally got up the courage to break the news to them about her pregnancy, I was surprised at their responses.  True, I understood how they would have been shocked, but I expected them to be a little more obvious in showing grace to Sammi.  Yet again, I could see the author's purpose in this, and as the story was being told from Sammi's perspective, that her view of their reaction was clouded by overwhelming guilt.

As Sammi allowed her remorse over her poor choices and imagined judgement and condemnation from everyone around her.  I could feel her pain and her struggles.  Hopeless, and lonely.  Scared.

The theme of this story was clearly that God's grace is greater than all our sins.  The message of forgiveness was taught loud and clear.

I thought that Sammi's father's perspective that just because Levi and Sammi conceived a child together didn't automatically mean that they should marry was very interesting.  I have never even considered that marriage under those circumstances could be a bad thing.

Another important point that the author brought up was the fact that pregnancy outside of marriage is a very visible sin - it is very hard to hide.  I have often thought that it is a shame that so many Christians treat this as an unforgivable sin, and yet indulge in other sins that don't have such visual evidence which are in so many ways worse.  Sins such as hatred, envy, gossip.  Sin is sin and grieves the heart of God.  And our sin, no matter how great or small, is why the Son of God offered himself as a sacrifice on the cross.  So we should be slow to judge others and should with gentleness and kindness and love "restore such a one".

This book is part of a series, but it can stand alone.  The author has several series she has written, and many of the characters from one series appear in the others, so it would be good to read them all so you can see more of the beautiful tapestry of lives that she is weaving.

I was genuinely surprised by how well this book was written. I was expecting a love-at-first-sight storyline that moved too quickly. What I got instead was a story where I saw two people go from strangers to friends and then to husband and wife. I think this is key; many Christain authors fast forward the getting-to-know-each-other phase, and the story no longer rings true. Levi was also very well written; from the beginning, he was a true gentleman. Who wouldn't love a man who diligently takes care of his mother? It was really lovely to see how Levi took care of Sammi and their baby.
I gave the book 3 stars, however, because of two major factors that detracted from my enjoyment:
1) The storyline was too slow-paced. I am not suggesting Jordan should have rushed the story, but the plot only consisted of two people working through a trying time. Eventually, the two characters' working together to bring their daughter into the world became monotonous. Every time I stopped reading, I was not compelled to carry on. By 3/4 of the book, I was forcing myself to continue.
2) Sammi was too lackluster. By the end of the book, I couldn't even describe Sammi's personality; nothing stood out about her. She had no quirks, no sense of humor; she didn't have likes or dislikes. I have finished the book, and I still don't know what to say about her.

All in all, it was a fun and clean read. I loved the theme of forgiveness and redemption; we all need to be reminded that God will forgive us when we come to him in humility.

Fantastic new book in the Callaghan and McFadden’s series! This book is the fourth book to be released in this series. The main character is Sammi who is introduced and mentioned in the other books, but this book focuses on her and the choices she has made at the current time. This book is a wonderful story of how easy it is to make one mistake that can lead to making other mistakes. Ms. Jordan provides the reader with an excellent story of forgiveness, but not necessarily providing forgiveness to others but to ourselves. Throughout the book, the reader sees how God extends grace to us all. The story was very touching. I enjoyed reading this story and cannot wait for the next one in the series! I highly recommend reading this book! I have read Ms. Jordan’s previous books. This book is in a series, but could be read as a stand-alone book. However, I think you would appreciate the book more by reading the entire series.
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the author for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.

A Story of God's Powerful Love and Grace

Sometimes, when we least expect it, God's love and redemption are the things that give us the greatest joy. There is nothing God cannot forgive if we humble ourselves before him! We all stumble in some way... Here, when Levi and Sammi met, it was at the very time they'd just learned others had betrayed them, turning their lives upside down. Both thinking their world was destroyed, they made a critical error. One that could have ruined their lives. They were from different backgrounds, one from a strong Christian family, one who knew nothing of that world. But together they found what a loving God could do with two broken hearts. Through nine months of struggle, He used the circumstances to restore the one, and bring the other to Him. In this story of love and redemption, God's grace shines through a family who struggles with a mother's sudden debilitating illness, an error in judgement made beautiful through a blessed baby, and love and forgiveness replacing guilt and shame, with His great promise of tomorrow!

Things in this book got me stirred up at the beginning (a man behaving badly, adult Christians making the kinds of bad decisions usually only made by immature teenagers, the unfairness of men being able to hide sexual sins seemingly very easily but women often not being able to). And then some better stuff got written into the story... and then, some even better than that stuff got written into the story. I found this book to be confronting, challenging, stimulating and heartwarming pulling a wide range of emotional responses from me including jerking a few tears out. Over this whole series there are a couple of, as yet, unresolved storylines but this book ends on a generally satisfactory note.

From guilt to grace received

Samantha welcomes her youth minister boyfriend home from a mission trip expecting the proposal he had promised her. Only to have him tell her he had fallen in love with someone else and break up with her. In her hurt and anger she rushes into the arms oF Levi, a complete stranger who is also reeling from betrayal and broken promises of his own. Finding herself pregnant Samantha lives with guilt and regret unsure of what will become of her life. In a very moving moment hearing a similar story of a woman who found forgiveness in God's grace, Samantha's burden is lifted, her sin forgiven and she receives God's peace and joy. A story of love and grace and redemption.

A beautiful story of God's grace and love. Sammi and Levi made decisions that had life changing consequences but through it all God never gives up. Get comfortable and join Sammi and Levi on their spiritual journey to God and a forever love.
Also as an extra bonus you can catch up with the Callaghan & McFaddens. This has been an amazing series. This book can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone book but reading as a series means you get to revisit friends.
I received a free copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Heart Warming

I was touched by this story especially so more than the others more so because of the burden one feels when it relates to sin and forgiveness. Not feeling like you are worthy of forgiveness from God. Cami's story and words touched my heart. I stopped reading to listen to song on YouTube and found my self in tears, feeling my own release of burden. This story encouraged me and I'm sure it will do the same for others. Thank you for this beautiful story as well as others. I thank God for this. God bless you!

Learning to Forgive Yourself

This was such a touching of about God's grace and forgiveness and how He brings beauty from our mistakes.
The author did a great job of making me feel the shame Sammi carried with her and completely understanding how one error in judgement per to another. One thing I struggled with was disappointment in her family's reaction to the situation in regards to her, Levi and Jayden. As close as they all seemed to be, I expected more of a reaction on the part of her brothers, particularly.
A solid story by Kimberly Rae Jordan as usual.

Good book

Good Book but the heroine of the book didn't read her Bible!!! First Jesus died on the cross, that forgiving there. The woman who was caught in adultery, the woman at the well, the thief next to Jesus.l could go on and on,but that shame of her got so sicking!!!!!! It seem she was making excuses to look bad. But the author must be a devout Christian in real life for that the part l love. I am giving this book 3 stars for the heroine shame made me almost stop reading.

So much emotion!

I love that KRJ writes deep, serious emotions as well as she writes suspenseful action. Her characters are all so realistic and experience things you can relate to as you’re reading. Even if you’ve never been in the situation or one like it, you flan easily identify because of the way she writes. I always look forward to her books, and this latest was worth the wait! I can’t wait for Kenton’s story next.

Another excellent story

While the subject matter was not quite what I would have expected, this was still an exceptional story. Sammie and Levi could easily be one of many couples facing this issue in today’s times. I felt myself on an emotional roller coaster ride that I never wanted to end. Can’t wait for the next one!

Amazing!

There was not one part about Sammie and Levi's story that I didn't like. Angst, yes. Faith, yes. Sweet, yes. Well written, just right pace, well developed characters. Check, check, and check. Entertaining, heart warming and just a little bit of a tear jerker. Worth the read.

Samantha and Levi’s story is truly amazing. Watching these two become friends then more is amazing. The way the men in this book help Levi is beyond wonderful. The characters in this book are all very special people. You will feel God working throughout this whole book. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.

Believing in Tomorrow

This was a really great story. Sammi had waited for Jayden to return from the mission trip to China. Once he did, and they met for a meal afterwards, she was heart broken. Jayden had found someone else. But all was not lost. Great story. Must read to find out what happens next.

God’s amazing grace

Oh wow!!!! I highly recommend this book! It is so sad when people think God is waiting to judge them for things they’ve done, when in reality, Jesus is waiting to love, forgive, and help them to do right things instead. Praise God! This is my favorite in this series so far.

Though this is #4 in a series, I read it first because the premise intrigued me.....Christian girl from a Christian family having a one night stand with a stranger resulting in a pregnancy, then ending up marrying the father of her baby. It was an excellent book, and I loved it enough to go back and start at book #1 and read the whole series.

Truly Beauty For Ashes

Without giving away the story line, this has been a prime example of how God can and will give us beauty for ashes. I loved that the characters were not perfect by no means, but in the end- they had become perfected by God. One of Kimberly Rae Jordan’s best in my opinion. A must read!

Fantastic story

I think I enjoyed this story more than books 0-3. This is an awesome description or essay on forgiveness. After the mess-ups, 2 people learn what forgiveness means & then experience it.
This is an awesome, clean story & so worth reading.
