Dr. Laval is the world’s top plastic surgeon. The rich and famous all flock to him. Though the doctor is looking to create his ultimate masterpiece. He takes on women who’ve had terrible accidents that have altered their faces. His newest client is a reporter named Carly Randall who got injured on the job. He’s remade her face into a work of exquisite beauty. The thing is that he’s made this face before on multiple women in different states. When these women don’t live up to his idea of perfection they mysteriously disappear or turn up dead. Now Carly has found herself disappointing the doctor by digging into his past and she finds herself in grave danger.

I would probably go 2 1/2 stars. The books not bad, but it’s kind of just middle of the road. There’s a great suspenseful scene where Carly has to go back under the knife and Dr. Laval sets up an accident to happen while she’s undergoing the surgery. Unfortunately the book never reaches that level of suspense again. I was also kind of hoping the book would take more of a sleazier vibe. Laval cuts off the other women’s heads and keeps their skulls. Given his narcissistic behavior it would have been more appropriate for him to skin off their face and take back the beauty he gave them. It would have made the book stand out a bit more.

Minor gripe is the author’s tendency to have Laval say wann-der-full and it’s spelled this way every time. If you did a drinking game every time this is written you would be plastered before you would reach chapter 10.

Oh and Carly’s love interest nickname for her, Carlykins, is so awfully bad and said so many times you could also play a drinking game with how many times it’s said.
