Rate this book
What's a girl to do when she falls in love with the man whose mission it is to bring her down?

With the murder of her only sister, Sara, just a few months past, Lily Valier—a woman of beauty and substance—tops the sheriff's list of suspects in small town Maine, and for a very good reason. Dear old Dad had willed his fortune to Sara and only Sara, leaving Lily to fend for herself. However, with no murder weapon or witnesses, the evidence against Lily is only circumstantial.

Enter P.I. Aiden O'Rourke, black-haired and blue-eyed, charged with gaining Lily's trust and learning her secrets, all to finally get the goods on her. Things move fast and feelings run deep, yet when Lily discovers the truth about Aiden, everything begins to come apart.

Aiden's torn. Despite his feelings for her, Lily is the most logical suspect, with a great big fat motive. Except something's not quite right. Aiden trusts his instincts and they're screaming at him to have a look at a former suspect with far more to hide than first appeared. With little left to lose, Lily decides to stand her ground, and staying put has its consequences when the murder weapon finally turns up—and it’s Lily's gun.

What happens to love, when trust is betrayed?

I read a review copy of this book before it went to publication, and I truly enjoyed it. The characters are varied and interesting, and the romance quite touching. I confess I'm not a big romance reader, but this one was well put-together. The thriller-mystery aspects were cleverly done, and kept my interest. I had a quibble or two about the denouement, but nothing serious. I recommend this to anyone as a good, light read. I enjoyed the play-by-play between the romantic leads - it's not mushy or overdone. I found Lily, the main character, credible and easy to relate to. I was never bored. The plot is fast-paced, the descriptions are excellent, some turns of phrase really stood out. I think Jeanne Bannon is a talented writer. I also liked her other book, Invisible, very much. She seems able to write in different genres with skill and aplomb.

This book was not what I was expecting, however it was a great read. It was written excellently, the characters were likable and easy to relate to. You get it all love, hate, jealousy, murder, friendship, betrayal and forgiveness. The whole mystery was excellent, reading as it all unfolded before my eyes, as love was blossoming it was awesome. Sometimes, it just seems like all the bad stuff happens to the nice, good people, yet in the end everyone gets what they deserve. Be ready to run the gauntlet of emotions. Really good book, I highly recommend it.

What a piece of crap! One of the worst suspense/romance novel I've come across. I didn't like one damn thing about it. The story was beyond ridiculous. A poorly executed plot that was not only boring, it was obvious who the killer was right from the start. The twists and turns to make this story suspenseful was laughable. For a town where every resident knows everything about everyone, to not even once think this person a suspect is beyond asinine. One sheriff and one deputy are the only two cops in town and they are the stupidest, laziest, fucked up idiots. In a matter of days we have a PI who's been hired by the lazy cops to help them convict Lily who they absolutely believe killed her sister. Just from meeting her he's taken with her. The next day they sleep together. He believes she's innocent. She's betrayed by him in the worst way. She takes him back. They fall in love. There's talk of marriage. All of this in a matter of days. Give me a fucking break! Absolutely no character development whatsoever. And the romance? Pathetic. Absolutely zero, zilch, nada chemistry between the two. I swear Lily reminded me of a teenage girl who would laugh at everything the boy she's interested in would say. It was that corny. Every time I think of this stupid novel that I wasted my time and money on, one word keeps popping up in my head. DUMB! DUMB! DUMB! Yes, juvenile but it's the truth. And don't even get me started on the number of times I rolled my eyes. So why did I continue reading? It's like a car accident. It's so bad you just can't look away. If I could, I'd give this a big, fat ZERO.

I don't normally read this kind of books, but this one I enjoyed very much. Love the unexpected plot twists and the romance. Here and there I was surprisingly surprised of how it turned out. It is really a must to read this book.

Nowhere to Run, Jeanne Bannon

Romance with a twist

Getting to know the person you think you're falling in love with can be a challenge, but finding out the guy you've been swooning over is out to get you arrested for your sister's murder is certainly a catastrophic hurtle to overcome in a budding relationship. And with plot twists and turns in just about every chapter, this reader didn't know whether to root for handsome guy who is a great kisser, or the law enforcement guy who knows how to do his job.

Lily is beautiful, independent, a business owner, a proud woman who loves her sister, but... then, she owns the business because her sister is dead, she's independent because she has to be in a town where whispers follow her everywhere she treads. Yet she's also lonely, and kind, and giving. Still...
...did Lily kill her sister? Does the new guy in town really love her? This reader knows the answer, and for Lily, there's nowhere to run.

Sarah Valier is dead. Her sister Lily is the number one suspect. The police are determined to solve the case, but they don’t have enough proof to arrest Lily. They try to prove their case by using an out-of-town private detective, Aiden. Aiden conveniently moves into the picture as a knight in shining armor. Lily’s diner is broken into, and he comes to the rescue just in time. Lily is immediately attracted to this handsome hero. Aiden’s “job” is to get Lily interested enough in him so she will let down her guard and confess. She doesn’t. Aiden persists, but the more he is around Lily the more he believes her. So, who shot Sarah? Lily’s father currently has a second family: a wife and one grown daughter. The couple fight a lot and Natalie isn’t exactly on stable ground. Her father means everything to her. She has no world without him. When her father also becomes a suspect in the murder, Natalie takes matters into her own hands and attacks Lily. As the family dynamics grow more and more intense and convoluted, Aiden once more comes to the rescue just in the nick of time. Natalie shoots him, knocks out Lily, and sets the cabin on fire. Lily’s instincts are right all along. The police solve the murder as Lily and Aiden find comfort in each other.

Nowhere to Run is an exciting romance, mystery thriller. Sarah Valier, 5 months pregnant, is dead. Her sister Lily is the number one suspect. A witness saw her pull a gun on Sarah. Lily insists upon proving her innocence and solving the murder. When a handsome new guy sweeps into her diner and rescues her from physical attack, Lily falls in love and starts spending a lot of time with Aiden. When she discovers this young, retired stockbroker is really a private detective trying to get her to confess, she feels betrayed and alone. But, Aiden is her knight in shining armor. He falls in love with her and together they explore a dangerous world in their quest to discover who shot Sarah.

Well written. The plot unfolds slowly but picks up to the point where the reader can’t turn the pages fast enough.

A beautiful love story with so much suspense you can’t put it down.

There is nothing like falling in love, getting to know someone, thinking you will have a future with that person only to find out they aren’t as they seem. Oh the heart breaks just when you need someone in your corner you find you are in it alone. This is a very fast moving exciting thriller full of mystery as the author twists an amazing story that keeps you spellbound. The who did it grows as new people come to light but what about the person who said they saw Sarah pull the gun? Just when you think you may have a handle on the killer the author throws another tail spin your way. No one was more surprised than I to find out who the killer is but the author isn’t giving anything away she is holding her cards close just in case anyone decides to look over her shoulder she wants everyone to be surprised as I was.

Aiden is getting in deeper when he starts to have feelings for the would be killer. He is thinking things aren’t adding up but will he find his answers before the women he is falling in love with finds out what he is up to? Lily is a sweet woman who my heart went out to but everyone else thinks she killed her sister. The cops believe it so much they are bring in someone from outside to get close and get her to tell all. He is her knight in shining armor when he saves her from an attack. Slowly he builds her trust sucking her in and letting her lean on him. You can guess how well she took this when she finds out the man she might love is against her and trying to prove she is the killer. I was torn between liking Aiden and wanting to slap him for even thinking Lily could be the killer. He really is a wonderful guy just doing his job but still there were times I didn’t care for him much and other times when he was the man of my dreams.

It is a slow start but it doesn’t take long for the reader to be pulled in to the mystery as the author throws first one twist and then spins it around in a turn you don’t see coming. The plot is wonderful, the suspense even better and the thrills are just chilling. There are some surprises you won’t see coming as well as a delightful romance that really touches you. I was so very hooked that I can’t wait for the next book from this author.

Great read with lots of suspense and romance. Lily is accused of murdering her sister and Aiden is there to find out the truth. At first he gets close to her without telling her his motives and she finds out. So of course, we get the drama from that. Plus, we have get to see who the killer is and if Aiden will choose his job or his heart.

I received a free copy of this book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

I was immediately captivated by this book and finished it in one day. Lily Valier owns and runs the local diner in the small town where she grew up. She is a murder suspect in the death of her own sister. But Lily insists she is innocent and stays right where she is as the investigation into the first murder in 26 years drags on around her. The sheriff and his deputy are convinced she is guilty of the murder, or is that really what’s going on?

Aiden O’Rourke, a private investigator, ex-detective, is hired by the sheriff to help him solve the mystery. In his attempt to do his job, Aiden meets with Lily and helps her thwart an attempted robbery. This sets the stage for Aiden as he pursues his investigation. But all is not as it seems. Is Lily guilty of a heinous crime, is the sheriff an honest man, what about his deputy? What is really going on in Higgstown?

This book reminded me so much of the premise of the TV show Riverdale. Like the town not having much to talk about until a tragedy happened and awaken the whole town.

The whole story is written beautifully and the dialogues are well thought of. I love how every chapter has this cliff hanger that would make you question who killed who and who was responsible for the murder.

It's amazing and totally worth the read. You should read this if you love Riverdale and mystery. You'll definitely enjoy it!

This was a great book that grabbed my attention from the first chapter. Lily is struggling with being the only one in her family left after her sister was murdered. To make matters worse, the local cops suspect her of the murder but can't prove it and call in a PI to help. Enter Aiden. The ex-cop sent to find proof of her guilt. But the more he gets to know her, the less he suspects her. Despite not trusting each other, together they solve the mystery. This is a was a great romantic suspense with twists and turns, lots of emotion, and a great ending!

Sorry, didn't really like it.

Thanks by the way... for the subtle fat-shaming. Lost connection when the main character seemed to think someone was the fattest deputy in the east. I guess she must have checked every police station to get those facts... if that is the way the author wants to describe a larger person then I don't really feel like my fat ass should bother finishing this story...

Never thought I would ask, but can I give this giveaway back?

Had me hooked right at the beginning!!!

This was my first book by this author and I loved it!!! The main characters in this story were vary well written. While the male lead character is a bit of an alpha male he doesn't over shadow the female. The conviction of the faith that there is an after life was so nice to see. The bit of mystery in this story was just enough to keep you guessing how it would end. This was an overall great book that I think everyone would love!!!

This was first published on my blog "Lecture toute une Aventure"

Easily read, this book was quite pleasing... i loved the idea of the plot ( sister suspected of a murder) and the investigation is quite well written....in fact the only thing that bothered me was how fast the heroine falls for the hero Aiden. Lily is courageous, she is loyal and stronger than she looks both mentally and physically more importantly she has a big heart as we can see in how she care for older peoples....however she is also a bit secret after have been hurt she is reserved even more after the sheriff investigation....so i can understand how she would fall for Aiden ( especially after the heroic rescue) BUT... in my opinion she goes to his bed too fast ..she doesn't fully trust him and yet she sleeps with him...somehow that fell too wrong

However, when you go past that point the author does use some elements to make the characters speak to each others and in the process learning to really discover the other one and build trust...

What really moved me was the ending... really this couldn't have been a more perfect one for this story and i couldn't resist shedding tears as it was quite moving really so i would be very happy to read more story from this author if only for that part .

If you want a good romance suspense with some mystical element and moving ending.. this is a book not to miss.

What would you do if you were accused of killing your sister?

Living in a small town, it's hard to escape the rumors and looks people give Lily. Everyone has a theory on why they believe she did it, but nobody wants to hear Lily's side to the story. So Lily does what she can, she builds her walls up and continues on with life. With only circumstantial evidence nobody can prove she did anything.

Aiden O'Rourke has made a living catching the bad guys that the police can seem to find. His life is all about finding the truth when nobody else can see it. When he's hired to get Lily to confess to murdering her sister lines start to get crossed and feelings start to enter the picture.

When Lily discovers Aiden's true reasons for trying to get close to her, will she find it in her heart to give him a second chance and help find her sister's real murderer?

If you need a book about romance (no sex except behind doors), a little mystery, and...a ghost??
This is the book for you!

Nowhere to Run is a suspenseful romantic thriller. It was well written and kept the reader turn g page after page to finish the book. Character development and storyline were intertwined to give you a great story. Lilly and Aiden start their relationship on a lie and it gets much worse before it gets better. Aiden is a private investigator hired to prove Lilly killed her sister for the inheritance. As Lilly falls deeper into this relationship she is devastated when she learns of Aiden's duplicity. It breaks her heart and makes her feel more alone than ever. This part of the story is so intense you feel her emotions as if you were there. There were some parts that dragged a little and the only part that was a let down for me was that you knew who the killer was from the very beginning. There was no mystery or build up to surprise the reader. Over all I feel that the author did a really good job on this one.

This is a book that will snag your interest from page one and won't give you up until you finish the last page!

This was a book that felt realistic to be from the beginning and my opinion of that didn't change as I kept reading.

Lily stood out to me as a very strong character and I loved it. It was a breath of fresh air to see a woman keep her head up high no matter what was thrown at her.

The author manages to put so much personality into her characters, it makes you want to go visit them in the diner, too!

This novel is full of a swoon worthy romance as well as a suspense that will keep you biting your nails until the very end!

I liked this book. I didn't love it. What I liked was the character development, the relationships Lily had with various characters in the book, and the semi-believable love story. What I didn't like was that I knew who the killer was, without a doubt, within the first few chapters. I realise this isn't a hard-hitting mystery (it's somewhere between cosy and not), but I did feel a little disappointed that the reveal, for me, happened so soon. Nevertheless, there were some lovely touches throughout and I was still keen to pick up my Kindle and glad I'd read it by the end!

No spoilers
Passionate characters both the main and supporting
A powerful storyline that flowed smoothly and kept me engaged from the beginning to the end - You never really knew what might happen with the turn of a page
I really liked that Lily had no intentions of rolling over and crying poor me - she met each new hurdle with confidence
Aiden .. I honestly can say I am not sure I would have been as forgiving as Lily
A sweet romantic suspense with a small town twist
