"Laningham molds a wonderfully complex killer. The author’s concise, lucid writing style makes for a quick read. A keen examination of an intriguing and disturbing murderer." —KIRKUS REVIEW
The urge is rising. The urge to kill.
Meet Vanessa, a serial killer who's gone straight, until something makes her snap. Now the once meticulous killer runs the risk of capture when her homicides become too personal. And while Detective Candice Blake is obsessed with solving the Napa Valley murders, it makes her questions everything she believes.
After a few eye-opening years as a political journalist, followed by an outrageously fun time as a political speech writer, Laningham fell in love with the art of writing fiction. Her debut novel, A Glass of Crazy, placed in the top five percent of the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award.
Vanessa is a reformed serial killer, or at least she's trying to be!! She's married and leading a normal life until her husband has to go and mess it up!! Quite the fun and interesting read, a unique storyline, one I have never read before. I had to read this in one sitting to see what Vanessa would do!!!
This was the perfect dose of everything I love in a book - Intriguing characters, a healthy dose of psycho, unexpected humor, and masterful writing. I want the next one already!
I really loved this book. The play on words with the title alone is what made me choose it. First, Vanessa is just watching a speaker onstage when she starts fighting her urge to kill. It's no secret that she's a serial killer, but the way she goes about it so matter-of-factly you can't help but like her. Yes, I know, she's a serial killer but at least she's honest about what she is.
Her husband Hunter is clueless about his wife and her past extra curricular activities. The fact that she is white-knuckling her urges because of a close call the previous year just adds more to the plot. Hunter needs to walk the straight and narrow though.
Tina Laningham infuses humor, a tight plot, and an interesting sub plot from the husband in neatly written novella. Highly recommend for a short and entertaining read.
‘She’s Kill Crazy: Venus Envy’ is brilliant. Intelligently written, this is a darkly humorous tale. Most of the characters are deeply flawed (in the sense they’re seriously damaged, not poorly written), and the story keeps you gripped right from the first page. I’ll definitely be picking up more of Tina Laningham books!
This is a really fun, fast-paced thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed. The main character, Vanessa, is the perfect housewife and unbeknownst to her husband, she’s also a serial killer gone straight. She is always well coiffed and organized, with an outward demeanor that is calm and cool. But inside she’s battling the urge to kill again and her husband keeps making that urge rise.
Candace is a local crime detective determined to discover who the Napa Valley killer is that’s been eluding law enforcement for years. She had a perfect track record at her last precinct, but just can’t solve this case, and isn’t going to quit until she does.
With short chapters, featuring multiple points of view, I easily devoured this in one sitting. The faster the plot was moving, the more unhinged Vanessa became and I just had to keep reading to see what she would do next.
