“Brilliant! Full of unforgettable characters, creepy thrills, and dangerous twists you won't see coming.” —Jonathan Maberry
John Wayne Cleaver is dangerous, and he knows it.
Having grown up helping his mom at the family mortuary, dead bodies are no big deal to John. He likes them. They don’t ask for the empathy he’s unable to offer. Perhaps that’s what gives him the clarity to recognize that something is frighteningly different about the freshest body on the slab.
For the first time, John must confront a danger outside his own mind, a threat he cannot control, a menace to everything and everyone he would love, if only he could.

Leí toda la saga(en español) y me encantó, son libros cortos, atrapantes, son super recomendables para aquellos lectores que les gusta el terror onda Sthephen King
The John Cleaver series is by far one of the best book series I've ever read and stands apart from the rest for many reasons. Dan Wells's ability to write a deeply twisted and misguided character while also being highly relatable and compelling is second to none. John Cleaver is one of the best-written protagonists I've ever encountered. His personality, mannerisms, emotions, and psyche are so clearly written that he seems more than real. His struggles and personal growth are deeply compelling, and his relationship with Marci/Brooke/Nobody is one of the greatest romantic tragedies I've ever read. The scene of them dancing together for the first time in "I Don't Want to Kill You" is a tender, beautifully written moment. And Marci's death was so sudden and unexpected that I had to re-read that page five or six times before I could willingly move on. His conversation in "Over Your Dead Body," where he talks about how much he loved Marci, had me fully enraptured and trapped within the story's pages. The same goes for the conversation between John and Gidri/Elijah in the "Devil's Only Friend," where they discuss why Gidri chooses to continue to live. He says, "The world is more than sadness, I have a hundred thousand memories in my head--I can't remember all of them, or maybe not even most of them, but they are so much happier than sad. For every dead mother or brother or child, there are a hundred breezes, a hundred sunsets, a hundred memories of falling in love," is one of the most memorable scenes I've ever read. Dan Wells's ability to write a compelling, unforgettable, beloved character in one book is awe-inspiring. Gidri/Elijah, Marci, and the entire strike team are so memorable and touching that it feels like they were around from the start. I could never find enough words to describe my love for this book series from the moment I read it and ended it. I'd recommend this series before any other to anyone willing to feel, to hate, to laugh, to love, to read, because this series will engage you from start to finish.
I thought the second book was the first by accident so let me tell you how shocked I was that the monsters were actually real. I actually thought that the mc was just crazy but no? Anyway, I've never read the first book to this day, and I'm halfway through the last book. I love the whole series. The mc is so accurately depicted and his thought process gives you this combination of an unreliable narrator that you really empathize with in such a disturbing way. I love how psychologically intense this book is, and I especially loved when John broke his rules and just took a bite of a hamburger. That scene was SO COOL! All the books are just... Great!

Loved the first book. Resonated very well with the narrator hahaha what does that say about me...
Had no idea this was a fantasy series but so! pleasantly! surprised!
Second and third books also very fun. The second trilogy seemed to change tone and I found the characters and setting less my cup of tea, but still good enough to read to the end. Mixed feelings about the ending-- I feel like it implies some ethical values I don't agree with re: the value of women. Overall a satisfying read, maybe should've stopped after book 3.
Not only was this series such a creative and critically thought out stretch of the world that Dan Wells created, but so well done that it has truly been a favorite series of mine in the thriller genre. This series is what truly got me into horror/thriller and, personally, that’s enough to convince for me.
Such an amazing series! The odd twists thrown in, the connection the reader can make with the characters within the story. I can not express enough just how much I enjoyed it. I truly just wish it had ended differently.
Довольно интересная история, иногда раздражали повторения один и тех же вещей из книги в книгу (но видимо этого не избежать), последняя книга как будто была вымучена, история внезапно делает поворот и резко заканчивается.
i only read the 3 firts books and i go to see that the firts one is good the second y excelent and the third yes is good but for my i dont enjoy for my is a bad book
