"What if American vaccines are tainted?" That's the uncomfortable question Dr. Alex Knight, a brilliant young scientist, has to tackle for the President of the United States. Despite what years of evidence would have Knight believe, there IS something wrong with public vaccination programs. What will he uncover that not only risks his career, but his very life in pursuit of the truth? And how does this conspiracy threaten to toss the world into another Cold War?
Breakout is the first book in the Alex Knight series, written and produced by C. G. Cooper, and co-authored by Ronan Powers.
C. G. Cooper is the USA TODAY and AMAZON BESTSELLING author of the CORPS JUSTICE novels, several spinoffs and a growing number of stand-alone novels.
One of his novels, CHAIN OF COMMAND, won the 2020 James Webb Award presented by the Marine Heritage Foundation for its portrayal of the United States Marine Corps in fiction. Cooper doesn't chase awards, but this one was special.
Cooper grew up on a steady diet of Dungeons & Dragons and the travels of a Navy family.
Upon graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Foreign Affairs, Cooper was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps and went on to serve six years as an infantry officer. C. G. Cooper's final Marine duty station was in Nashville, Tennessee, where he fell in love with the laid-back lifestyle of Music City.
His first published novel, BACK TO WAR, came out of a desire to link back to his time in the Marine Corps. That novel, written as a side project, spawned many follow-on novels, several exciting spinoffs, and catapulted Cooper's career.
Cooper lives just south of Nashville with his wife, three children, and their German shorthaired pointer, Liberty, who's become a popular character in the Corps Justice novels.
Childhood vaccines, are they safe? Or purposes of them to create super human race? Operation Wildfire that started in 1968 at Nixon era was abounded, now back with new purpose. Alex Knight trying to find the truth, good entertaining story.
I would have given this five stars, but it was a little short. Corrupt politicians, inane bureaucracy, murder, deceit, and frame-ups populate this fascinating story, as Dr. Alex Knight finds himself trapped in a world of spinning mirrors after being busted for illegal stem cell research. He is slowly but surely parsing through the Internet files on vaccine problems, a make-work project he is blackmailed into performing by the corrupt head of the National Institutes of Health. As he follows Alice down that rabbit hole, he discovers an existential threat to humanity.
I started this book thinking I was going to read a Corps Justice spin off. While I was surprised, I was not disappointed. Alex Knight does not start out a likable person. But over the course of the book he starts to grow on you. Characters are introduced quickly as the plot starts to race, some just as quickly leave. Or do they? Parts of the beginning seemed a little draggy, but next thing I knew I was at 75% through the book. The subject matter is socially reverent at this time. I am looking forward to the next book and finding out where Alex is heading and what he does.
Breakout is the first book in the Alex Knight series. This can be read as a standalone but it does end in a cliffhanger. There is violence.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. This is a well written thriller that could be taken from today's headlines. There are clues in the storyline that keep you guessing what will be revealed next. It definitely kept me reading. Overall it is an interesting storyline and worth taking the time to read. I look forward to reading more of this series.
What a thrill ride of a book! It felt like I was on a rollercoaster the whole time. Dr Knight, doing illegal stem cell research in secret finds its not such a secret after all. He gets the runaround from his employers, harassed by the FBI, and chased by fanatics. He doesn't know who to trust but he is learning. It's burning me up to find out what happens next. If you love a good conspiracy I highly recommend this book. Congratulations to the authors for a great and exciting read.
I really enjoyed this book. Marking the start of a series, this book inevitably spends some time building up the main character. Some felt it was too long but I liked the character building method. I felt compelled to continue turning the pages and I enjoyed the meatier part of the plot taking in the medical side of the story. The amount of detailed information was ideal for me as I like a challenge and to learn new facts whilst I am reading. I would definately recommend reading this and look forward to book number 2 to continue the adventures.
I've read many C.G. Cooper novels, (none by coauthor Powers), and, except for a pernicious right-wing tone, I've enjoyed them all. Being ex- military myself, Cooper's grasp of unit cohesion, brotherhood, determined, mission oriented characters lends reality to his stories, and makes an old Vietnam Vet' like me get totally immersed in the action. That said, this particular tale ends like an old serial comic book story, making one want book Two ASAP ! I'm off to get that book right now.
'Breakout' was a good start to what looks like a great series. The story line pulled me in and kept me glued to the pages. The premise was incredibly creative and has the power to become a reality- and that is super scary to me. The possibilities are endless when you have politics, power, greed, scientific breakthroughs and possible race extinction. The characters are great. I wasn't sure if I was going to like Alex when I first met him, but after a while he grew on me. He's actually a great character. Mina is crafty. I liked her attitude. Over all a great read. A must add to your tbr list.
This book could have easily been a 4 or 5 star. Very good story line and good action pace. At the 90% point the book tanked. All proofreading and corrections stopped. The remaining pages are full of incoherent sentences and mistakes (for example Knight went to his office and left his apartment). Was this a book completion to meet a deadline rather than complete a story? Cooper writes well, but this hurried phase shows in almost all of his books. A shame that a compelling writer does not take the time for adequate reviews and proofs prior to publishing.

Great new character... cannot wait to read the second installment
This is one of those thrillers that you don't want to put down once you start it. Alex Knight is one of those heroes you would never expect to be a hero. This is a cliff hanger waiting for the next book. So Mr Cooper, I hope you are typing away because I am waiting for Alex Knight to save the world. I won't give the plot away, just read for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
Alex Knight a gifted researcher, scientist. His recent research involves cloning. Not sanctioned, theoretically illegal. His lab is raided by the FBI. In lieu of incarceration, a deal is made. A deal with the devil. They government wants him to give his stamp of approval on a vaccine. Problem is the vaccine is just a ruse. Anyone that stands in their way dies. Extremely fast paced action thriller!! Enjoyed immensely!!
Book started out good got a little slow third to middle of the way in and then picked up pace gangbusters and typical Cooper Style. As usual cliffhanger letting you beg for more. And twists and turns from The Twist Master. Had I been into the genre more might have given 5 stars but it just didn't have the chilling precision of the Jefferson group books.
This is an intriguing start to what I hope will be a very long and successful series. Dr Alex Knight is an extremely likeable character who captures your interest from start to finish. I look forward to more of his adventures as he seeks to "save the world"
This is an extremely well written story with lots of drama and action which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend this to you.
Loved this book and I want to know how long I have to wait for the next one. Carlos Cooper you're killing me with these endings. You will never go wrong with reading this author. I've read most of his books and will continue to read his books until he quits writing them or i can no longer read!
Another excellent novel by C. G. Cooper that keeps the reader in heightened suspense as each page is turned. The story had a number of surprising twists and turns, a few of which caught me totally by surprise. I am now waiting for Alex Knight, Book 2...the sooner the better.
This new book opens up a very interesting story of conspiracy and intrigue based in academia and medicine. At first I didn't think I could get into it. The writing style and plot line drug me in and I am happy that it did. An excellent read. I'm reading for book number 2!
The book did nothing but prepare you for a cliffhanger, I have read every other book this author wrote. I am really disappointed in this book. He looks like he's just writing now to make money. I loved all your other books. However now I will never read another one.
Great start to another C G Cooper series! Dr Knight, a scientist working on stem cell science is thrown into a dubious situation that gives him the opportunity to save the world, beginning with one little girl. Lots of twists and turns! Once you start this read plan on cancelling plans until you can finish it.
I loved this book so many things to read a d so many twist and turns that you are not sure who is going to die or live. The Author is a favorite of mine but he has put some himself with all the research that must have went in this book. Thank you C J. Cooper. I highland completely recommend this book
This story is a compelling read during this pandemic. Is the government causing illness and handicaps through vaccinations? That is what Dr Knight is charged with after he was discovered doing illegal stem cell research. The trail is long and tortuous but is very good thought provoking reading
Good Start on New Series. Slow at First, But Leaves You Wanting More air Comes To A Strong End.
This has a complex plot/story line that draws you in the more you read. Lots of twist & turns. Good vs. EVIL but not always sure who is which. Some strong characters on both sides. Love blooms but heartbreaks come also. Need the next book to get satisfaction...
This story was way to slow to begin with, but did pickup toward the end and had a cliffhanger ending. I will read book 2 when it comes out, but I hope it's a little better then this one.
I read this book with an open mind really wanting to like it. I can't say that I do. Not too sure about the lead character. The development of story and plot were hit and miss. The conclusions left a lot unsaid and undone. Too much.
Times happen fast and at first without reason, then you will catch on. A great look at tomorrow and the opportunity for much to go so wrong. I just hope Alex figures it out.
I will read the other books coming in this series but I don't think I can give five stars. It feels not completed and a mishmash is the only way I can think to describe. Not even close too the other series. Thanks, Amarillo Turtle
Good read, plot is intriguing but work on your editing. CG you need the beta readers to go all the way through your book, the last few chapters have some sentence flaws. Overall, good first in the hoped for series.
Wow what a cluster of lies spun in name of science and technology and government officials who wants their own agenda and let the rest of world rot. Read on for more details.
I enjoyed the book very much. It was slow getting into it (I'm used to the fast moving action of the Daniel Briggs and Corps Justice series) but I sure hope book 2 comes out soon. Please keep writing, Mr. Cooper, you're a treasure!
