Right witch, wrong sister! Welcome to Wand-Anon, the last ditch clinic for powerless witches and wizards who are determined to find their magic. And in Benedict DeWin's case, desperate. Benedict's impending arranged-since-birth marriage depends on his ability to prove that he, too, possesses the powerful magic his family is known for. Does Ben want to get married? No. But having been a disappointment to his family, he's willing to take one for the team... Until he meets Bryony Flynn, another magical misfit...and his fiance's sister. Double, double, toil and trouble...
I saw this short novella (78 pages) by a NY Times Bestselling Author, so I expected it to be a well-written light rom-com for Halloween. Instead, I found it riddled with minor errors and predictable, which is fine, but the story is never developed. Benedict is sent away to Wand-Anon to gain the powers he should’ve been born with, but the story veers away from the program at Wand-Anon, which could’ve been fun. Instead, it focused on the other “ordinary” who he’s instantly attracted to and vice versa. Things went along way too easily. Where was the conflict? And then all of a sudden, this light story had a sex scene, which seemed totally out of place. Without many problems, everything was resolved and we never get to find out much about this Wand-Anon place other than it has vortexes because it’s in Sedona. This story had potential. It seems like the author dashed it off for Halloween, errors and all. I expected more and I’m disappointed. This was lazy writing.
So, I suppose for a super short book it was good. It was rather predictable and that is why I gave it the 3 stars. I am interested in seeing how the story moves forward and I plan to read the next book. I am usually not much into novellas, but it was a nice, enjoyable short read. (sad that even on a 78 page book I still skimmed through some)
A quick and cute romance with a bit of paranormal tossed in.
His powers never awakened, and his parents finally send him off to a magical school for those who haven't awakened to their powers. He finds a woman there that awakens something quite different, love.
Cute story - just wish the author would have included both family's reaction to the awakenings & the upcoming wedding. Would have been some interesting fall out to read about.
